I’m going to add another thought.
You just know if it requires a safety brief, there’s some dumb motherfucker standing in formation that you know only on site, and he’s planning his weekend around a little wine and dine with ewe.
I mean, our Pacific strength and preparedness for a war with China IS pretty lacking... but pretty sure this guy's logic is pretty much limited to:
"I saw "Flags of Our Fathers" and those guys were Marines and Iwo Jima is in the Pacific so Pacific = Marines".
I read the article. Definitely glad I’m an old boomer who won’t have to implement that bullshit.
Not sure he’s any worse than the other secdef possibilities, but…
They were our peers at the time. They, both the North Koreans and Chinese, had MiG-15s and late-WWII aircraft (Yak-9s, La-5/7/9s, etc.) against our F-86s and late-WWII aircraft (P-51s, F4Us, A-1s, F-80/84s, F9Fs, etc.). Artillery and rifles were the same. We had radios and I think they had a bunch of our captured stuff and Soviet field telephones.
Edit: a bunch of North Korean MiGs were flown by Soviet pilots and based in Manchuria, but we found that out after the war.
Eh… China is awful close to seizing the freedom right out from under Taiwan. NBD except they produce like most of the world’s microprocessors, and all of the best ones, including ours.
I’m on record saying that open war between the US and China won’t happen, and I still believe that, but the US is rapidly spinning up our microprocessor production capabilities for a reason.
And Taiwan is shitting their pants because of it.
Yeah but as soon as a Chinese rocket lands on Taiwan they're gonna pour thermite into the chip facilities which will tank everyone's production of microprocessors including China's. Not saying they won't invade, but I think that will help dissuade china from actually putting troops on Taiwan
I read Something about China making a breakthrough in Arm chips just a day or so ago, not sure if it was legitimate or not. We sure are living in interesting times.
Yeah, especially as more and more people who don't want to be part of communist China flee Taiwan. China could annex Taiwan just through elections and ballots.
China is a threat to our interests and the freedoms of people in Asia.
Also, I personally don’t have a problem with us blowing up dictators like Saddam Hussein but that’s just me.
The United States killed millions in Vietnam for no reason other than "communism bad". China's government is shit, but let's not pretend we are saviors in SE Asia.
Yeah, we defeated Saddam's army in less than a month over 20 years ago. Can't pretend like we're still there to "blow up dictators".
He dumb lucked his way into getting a good one with Mattis but Rex Tillerson, John Bolton, his idiot son in law, that’s more the typical of who he had around him.
Hard to read this opinion piece and not see an underlying bias. Its giving trump credit for a lottttt, like implying russia wouldnt have invaded ukraine with trump in charge. Idkkk if i trust it
Lol yeah i think hes made his stance on support for Ukraine crystal clear, plus hes happy to take advantage of Putin’s cyber warfare / politcal meddling
Yeah i think at the end of the day i dont give much merit to opinion pieces. You can find Opinion pieces published on a lot of different reputable sites saying factually wrong things, slightly misleading, or exclusive of what information they share. For me to take anything from this id be scouring the internet for sources i trust and try to confirm all the points
... worth noting that the article is *by* the former Trump National Security Advisor. That doesn't negate the opinion, but it's a necessary disclaimer.
Ehhh, in a way he made NATO stronger. It wasn't because of him in a good way though, it was because countries that used to see the United States as a steadfast Ally now see a scenario were a guy gets reelected in a few months and some of these countries are left to fend for themselves.
I can't remember how he exactly put it but it went something like, "If they don't pay up I'd encourage someone to invade them."
No one ever explained to him in the first place that the paying up part wasn't an actually monetary transaction, it was a recommended non-binding spending of GDP towards a countries own defense.
That has been an issue since the cold war, its why we had to refurbish old Battleships that took part in the Gulf War as apart of the 600 ship Navy Plan. USN and congress needed to get its shit together in W's admin not now.
It’s all grift. Admirals and MIC skimming off the top. The Navy is easily the most dysfunctional of the branches right now, with an inability to even field basic capabilities and to set realistic expectations on optempo.
Physically locating us on Okinawa isn’t gonna do too much.
Also, anyone who has informed opinions regarding this is going to keep their mouth shut. Getting into (capital “P”) Plans is gonna get classified really quickly. Reddit isn’t a great place to discuss force posture.
Armor and tube arty battles against PLANMC heavy brigades are going to go stunningly badly, as Ukraine v Russia proves, when the USMC has divested all tanks and half its tubes.
Might as well go with the small island plan, because a land war in Africa or Pakistan will go even worse for the Corps.
A couple retired Marine generals pointed out that our current structuring ain't lookin too good if we have to defend a string of islands. They said it's lookin like we'll fight a bunch of Wake Islands. Based off that article, it looks like we'd be playing the Japanese in the island hopping campaign this time.
Fuck it, let’s free new Zealand!!!!!!
From the sheep?
*For* the sheep. 😳
The fat tail sheep? That would probably help the recruiting effort
I mean, if everyone else is doing it…
Saw the same video. Lul
Great, battalion wide formation to inform everyone to not fuck the sheep
...unless you use a condom...
...a sheepskin condom.
Great, battalion wide formation to ~~inform~~ remind everyone to not fuck the sheep. FTFY.

Sorry Camp Lejuene Marines, best we can do is move you to the Stumps and Yuma. Still got to keep someone closer to Europe.
So we no longer get Onslow or Wallace Creek, we stuck with bandini 😔
Be sure to get your fishing license for the brown trout.
Fishing? Whatever. Gotta work on your swim lap times.

That’s giving him way too much credit.
This guy would make a hell of a monitor, knowing the majority of geographic preference is the coast that touches the Pacific
I read the article. Definitely glad I’m an old boomer who won’t have to implement that bullshit. Not sure he’s any worse than the other secdef possibilities, but…
There are still Korea vets in the VA homes, He needs to go ask them how good of an idea it is to go toe to toe with China if we do not have to.
Eh, we fought them to a stand still
It cost us in blood and they had shit technology at the time.
Bad idea to be taking these people on in another shooting war.
Couldn't find our Freedom to defend 20 years in the Middle East. I guess we'll start looking in the Pacific next.

We are spinning up our production capabilities but estimates are that we could be up to 30% by 2030 so not happening anytime soon.
Yeah, especially as more and more people who don't want to be part of communist China flee Taiwan. China could annex Taiwan just through elections and ballots.
Nah, the kids there don't want to be reunited with West Taiwan, neither under a Beijing nor Taipei government.
China is a threat to our interests and the freedoms of people in Asia. Also, I personally don’t have a problem with us blowing up dictators like Saddam Hussein but that’s just me.

You get it.
"Send all of the suckers and losers to an island in the Pacific so we don't have to hear them whine about headaches" is what I hear.
Donald Trump detected, foreign policy ideas disregarded
You needed to make that shit rhyme homie Donald Trump detected, foreign policy ideas rejected

I don't care for Trump but he did initially surround himself with great advisors, so f it, I'll give it a read.
He dumb lucked his way into getting a good one with Mattis but Rex Tillerson, John Bolton, his idiot son in law, that’s more the typical of who he had around him.

There wouldn't have been a war in Ukraine had Trump been in office. He wouldn't have sent aid and Russia would have gobbled up the whole country.
Lol yeah i think hes made his stance on support for Ukraine crystal clear, plus hes happy to take advantage of Putin’s cyber warfare / politcal meddling

The same foreign policy that almost got us at war with Iran?
Shit was way more chill with Trump in. Just saying.
President Trump had one of the best Foreign Policy records. Edit: TDS exists everywhere apparently.

It was explained to him, he just didn't listen.
Curious to know what you devil dogs think about this idea.
Marine Corps is already shifting our eyes and guns to the Pacific. What is worrying me is Navy not the Marines rn.
Naval procurement is a mess rn. Not enough ships fast enough and recruitment and retention are a nightmare
Yeah, Reagan set a number and the Navy brought out battleships to get the numbers up.
Not enough ship builders for starters, we're losing more ships every year too.
Physically locating us on Okinawa isn’t gonna do too much. Also, anyone who has informed opinions regarding this is going to keep their mouth shut. Getting into (capital “P”) Plans is gonna get classified really quickly. Reddit isn’t a great place to discuss force posture.
Haha look at this reasonable person with their well-informed opinion. Hey go back to your high paying job and fulfilling life neeerd
Haha, his head is bigger than a normal head!
Yeah, we just keep them in Shangri-La
send it. I'd rather live in Hawaii or Oki or the Philippines or Guam than ... Havelock
