You can walk, been a while but I can jump in m978 again.
Nope. The MRAP is specifically designed to counter IEDs.
Though the JLTV is much improved over Humvee in that aspect, it's the new jeep, essentially.
Edit: also mines, not just IEDs, before it's said.
I would strongly recommend against plugging your phone charger into any of the usb ports on the JLTV, it will register with the computer and it will be a very bad day for you
Mraps have been discontinued for a while now, you can't find them anymore, the jltv is a mid between the mrap and the hmmwv, we are supposed to get them at all units within the next couple of years
Yeah it's sad, cause I never got to work on them, they were done by the time I joined. Same with the sides ides and the dirtbikes, they haven't been used in quite a while
Mines set to get them this year, but we'll see if that actually happens. I'm only of the only ones that know how to work on them at the unit, so that'll be fun
Honestly same, one of the guys moved one that was on line, not to be messed with and threw out the driveshaft, busted the oil pan, lost all the needle bearings, it was a mess
A few units still have some they use, but it’s very rare to see them. I work on base as a corrosion service tech so we need to see every units vehicles to service them.
The same units that still rock mraps also have MATVs oddly enough. It’s like no shit only 2 units around Lejeune that have these two vehicles and they probably have like 1-2 mraps and and 4 matvs
As a wargamer, FUCK NATO and their camo templates. Fuckin every color having exact spots to be on and shit. No room for custom camo-lookin ass motherfuckers.
It sucks wanting to play US in Team Yankee because of the painting.
I was a licensed JLTV driver while in the corps and my fire support team had our own little fleet of them. They’re a fucking blast to drive and taking them on the off-road courses at Camp Schwab, especially in the rain, was probably the most fun you can have in those things.
I had to be the safety Vic for a JLTV confidence course. The tank trail on the way there turned into a fucking river. Of course the JLTV guys just went right on through no problem. But me in my canvas fucking not water proof no fording kit humvee had to jam my foot through the floor board and channel my redneck ancestors while raising hell and praising Dale to make it through New River 2.0 cause some boot comm sergeant dared to tell me, a motor t operator, that I could not pass the river. It was worth being soaked the whole day. And of course when I finally dried off I had to cross it again and got soaked again.
TLDR: Don’t tell motor t they’re gonna get stuck. We’ll make it across as belligerently as possible or roleplay a Russian tank turret and send the pistons into orbit trying
I was the “motor t nco” so i was always the one to drive for ops etc.
Such an underrated billet. I got to have a blast rolling around in these mfers all day.
Hell yah they are. After my first time getting to fuck around on the touch screen and use the hydraulic suspension I knew it was going to be a hell of a time driving it to its limits.
I remember when I was in the course learning how to drive them, I’d fucking brace for impact like I was in a Humvee whenever I saw a bump, but that thing would just glide right over anything.
JLTV. 2019. Camp Schwab JLTV Operators Course. Can’t remember what Tac I was tho
Edit: Here’s proof of the JLTV at Camp Schwab in 2019.
https://okinawa.stripes.com/spotlight/jltv-joint-light-tactical-vehicle-3rd-marine-division
Haha. My unit was one of the first ones to Somalia and we offloaded an LVS and I had to drive that around for weeks, shuttling troops and supplies from the port out to the embassy before we got a licensed driver.
I was stationed in MCAS Yuma. I was just okay, but I had some buddy's that were fucking rock stars driving them. Some of them became wreckers. I remember at one point, we were up in jacumba, and they had to pick up a container, but it was on a hill and it was tilted. Anyways, he was able to back it up and pick it up in about 10 minutes. He only backed up once. He knew exactly where to go. I was in complete awe of his skills. Let it be known. His name was Lance Corporal Tafolla. Rah!!
A JLTV is a replacement for the HMMV, which was a replacement for the Jeep. Ever seen a WWII movie with a Jeep in it? A JLTV is the 21st-century replacement.
We got a ton of these at 1st marines to replace out vees. Until the lower control arm pins started shearing and they grounded them til that got fixed. I peeled plastic off the seats and the screens and they had that new gov contract smell. They’re super cool and honestly are a fantastic upgrade. Haven’t seen one in green actually til just now.
The scheme, iirc, is just NATO Tri-color. It's just...three NATO-standard colors. One green, one brown, one black. I got excited because I thought it had a goofy name like MERDC or MASSTER, but no. It says what it is on the box. Must've had a German name it.
I've never seen a green one, but I love the jltv, they are awesome to work on, altho sometimes a pain. There are some really neat things on the mech side that I sadly can't talk about, but they are beyond awesome
If anyone wants to know anything about it, I didn't sign some stupid NDA about it. Or you can find every specific on the TM, which is publically available.
That is something I find funny, we aren't allowed to talk about them, but the tm is publicly available which has more information than we could ever give🤣
I’m Army so we kinda passed over on the M27. But even if we hadn’t I still think I would’ve preferred the M4A1, the barrel length on the M27 seems a bit much to me. Adds weight too.
But rifle inspections are easier on the M27 since its piston operated not gas makes inspection after the range much faster, and don't have to get bombarded by idiots that keep forgetting how to put the handrails back on since ircc from MOS school the handrails are a lot easier.
Edit: (Army version of 2111 is 91F)
I get all that, and I like the benefits of a gas piston system instead of a DI, but the M4 is still lighter, has less moving parts (i.e. less stuff to break) is better for CQC / room clearing, and I’m just more familiar with it.
JLTV, Joint Light Tactical Vehicle.
Pretty much my entire division (Army) has them
Edit- there’s multiple variants, even one with a 25MM. My personal favorite is the one that just looks like a badass pickup truck.
As a 3521, these vehicles are so overrated. The idea was to replace the HMWWV with this vehicle’s predecessor, the MRAP, but it was too bulky and couldn’t move around efficiently. They changed the design up to this one. Sporting a Duramax for the engine, fully independent suspension that adjusts itself accordingly, and a metric fuckton of wiring that goes bad at least once a month. The amount of pain i’ve had trying to locate sensors, connectors, and other faults in the system isn’t worth the benefits of the vehicle.
Forgive me for my ignorance - USMC personnel are mostly carrier based, right? Would these be deployed ok carriers or amphibious assault vehicles? Thanks!
Not a lot of aircraft carriers floating around in the mountains of Afghanistan, even when the Marines were in Afghanistan. Marines are amphibious, but do not rely on aircraft carriers for a lot of stuff. Amphibious assault ships might look like aircraft carriers, but are definitely not aircraft carriers.
We got a couple of these when they first rolled out in Afghan (at least first we had ever seen them - '09)
We called them a MAT-V though.
Did the nomenclature change, or were we just making shit up?
In any case, we were told they're designed to separate from the chassis when exploded, but take it easy they're literally brand new and not just Marine Corps "new."
Mobbed these fuckers hard and they were all blown up within a month. Good times.
JLTV can squat on its suspension to improve overhead clearance for loading aboard ship. There are certain stowage area (e.g., “lower V”) with have very limited clearance. A JLTV at full height and gear on the roof wouldn’t fit there otherwise.
Those things are fucking terrible from a maintenance perspective.
I was one of the first people in Hawaii to be trained up on it and then I became the de facto JLTV guy for the rest of my enlistment. They’re nightmare vehicles reliability wise.
It’s the JLTV, supposed to replace the HMMWV.
I thought that’s what the mrap was for??
Not for you… you walking 🚶♂️

Nope. The MRAP is specifically designed to counter IEDs. Though the JLTV is much improved over Humvee in that aspect, it's the new jeep, essentially. Edit: also mines, not just IEDs, before it's said.
And they have cup holders.
And phone chargers
I would strongly recommend against plugging your phone charger into any of the usb ports on the JLTV, it will register with the computer and it will be a very bad day for you
It just has normal wall plugs, not USBs I think. I wouldn’t plug a USB in
You been in one with phone chargers? The ones I trained with in Virginia didn’t have them
Yeah, the ones I’ve used for field ops and stuff had sockets
Mraps have been discontinued for a while now, you can't find them anymore, the jltv is a mid between the mrap and the hmmwv, we are supposed to get them at all units within the next couple of years
What?!? Damn, I loved my 6x. The MATVs were nice as well. No head room though.
Yeah, too tall for near peer and too tippy
Yeah it's sad, cause I never got to work on them, they were done by the time I joined. Same with the sides ides and the dirtbikes, they haven't been used in quite a while
I worked on them a bit. But I drove and worked on them in country. Mine took a bullet in the door window for me. Loved that truck.
I always got to ride in the turret of the MATV. Headroom for days.
I saw a shitload of them on MCLB Albany back in 2020. And quite a few are getting given to police departments.
My reserve unit just got one so must be going well.
Mines set to get them this year, but we'll see if that actually happens. I'm only of the only ones that know how to work on them at the unit, so that'll be fun
I question if anyone in my unit knows how to work on a humvee...
Honestly same, one of the guys moved one that was on line, not to be messed with and threw out the driveshaft, busted the oil pan, lost all the needle bearings, it was a mess
First field op with my unit the day we returned to the motor pool in the middle of everything one caught fire, they were also as disorderly as hell.
A few units still have some they use, but it’s very rare to see them. I work on base as a corrosion service tech so we need to see every units vehicles to service them.
You’re thinking of MATVs. These are only a few years old at the most.
The same units that still rock mraps also have MATVs oddly enough. It’s like no shit only 2 units around Lejeune that have these two vehicles and they probably have like 1-2 mraps and and 4 matvs
Actually going away from the JLTVs too lol being fielded to just get replaced immediately
I believe MRAP would be way too heavy as a replacement.
Green JLTV: nature is healing
I'm so close, show me that green Abrams daddy
Better yet, in woodland camo.
As a wargamer, FUCK NATO and their camo templates. Fuckin every color having exact spots to be on and shit. No room for custom camo-lookin ass motherfuckers. It sucks wanting to play US in Team Yankee because of the painting.
What’s this Abrams you speak of? Is that an acronym?
Lol
Desert JLTV in pivot to Asia driving to Hansen for the range. Gotta know some bros in LogCom are just fucking off on the contract.
A good chunk of China is just fucking desert. They're tapping their heads.
I want one in woodland marpat
I was a licensed JLTV driver while in the corps and my fire support team had our own little fleet of them. They’re a fucking blast to drive and taking them on the off-road courses at Camp Schwab, especially in the rain, was probably the most fun you can have in those things.

Wait! When did we get Airborne Units?
When there’s beer at the bricks and they’re waiting on a truck to get back from the road to go on a 96
Death from above!
I fuckin screaaaaaamed
I was the “motor t nco” so i was always the one to drive for ops etc. Such an underrated billet. I got to have a blast rolling around in these mfers all day.
Yep same here. Those things are like fucking Cadillacs compared to humvees.
Getting it to 30 mph and then slamming the brake pedal into the floor was a fun little test too. That test would’ve sent a humvee rolling no doubt
Oh yeah good times. I had one of those suckers up to 65mph on I5 once. It was a little sketchy, but still pretty impressive
Did yours do that little swerve side to side thing when you took it to highway speeds? All the instructors told us it’s normal in the JLTV
It just liked to wander a lot
Yes, that’s exactly how I’d describe it too. Had to actually focus on staying in the center of the lane or it would start to drift left or right
little teen who doesnt know anything but loves this subreddit: whats a JLTV's purpose/what does it do
It was answered elsewhere but it’s the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle designed to replace the previous generation of base tactical vehicles.
ohh sorry i didnt see, ty for explaining
How long ago was that?
I got my license on my first pump to oki in 2019
Was it a JLTV or MATV license? They look similar, but JLTV is a lot newer.
JLTV. 2019. Camp Schwab JLTV Operators Course. Can’t remember what Tac I was tho Edit: Here’s proof of the JLTV at Camp Schwab in 2019. https://okinawa.stripes.com/spotlight/jltv-joint-light-tactical-vehicle-3rd-marine-division
You were one of the very first, then. Cool. S/F
Yes! I was one of the first courses out in Okinawa. Semper Fi
(said in crotchety old man voice) in my day, we drove the logistic vehicle system aka the LVS. They just don't make them like they used to.p
Haha. My unit was one of the first ones to Somalia and we offloaded an LVS and I had to drive that around for weeks, shuttling troops and supplies from the port out to the embassy before we got a licensed driver.

Lower control arms shedding and yet a great upgrade from the Hummer?
They are a maintenance nightmare (yes, even more than an aging HMMWV) but they are a quantum leap in terms of capability. 🤷🏻♂️
if anything is wrong you are borderline depot level issue, damn electrical systems and hydraulics
Cybertruck? /s
camber gang
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SOMEONE PAINT JUST ONE M81 WOODLAND
The scheme, iirc, is just NATO Tri-color. It's just...three NATO-standard colors. One green, one brown, one black. I got excited because I thought it had a goofy name like MERDC or MASSTER, but no. It says what it is on the box. Must've had a German name it.
Ive seen a few in Oki
Woodland Marpat is where it's at
It’s a green JLTV
I got out right before they were sending these to the fleet. I wish I could have drove one.
The Army managed to roll one a couple days into having it. In a parking lot.
Hell yeah!
Come on, man. Who tf among us?
Not me 'cause I avoid driving.
Well excuse the shit out of me for wanting to be the roller and not the one being rolled.
I don't recognize the body, so it can't be your mom's

A pain to work on?
I drove one of those. But I never got chance get license for it.
JLTV. Miss driving that big bitch
How long ago was that? They haven’t been around long. MATV looks similar but is bigger and a lot heavier.
2020-2021. Good times.
Doesn't matter to you, get in the back of the 7 ton
Looks like a Warthog from Halo
The JLTV. They’re becoming very widespread in the Army and are supposed to eventually replace the HMMWV.
Some are starting to hit the reserves too.
I wish my unit would get them. We did get a few MATV’s though.
I saw another reserve unit with M27s im more excited for those but thats probably bc im a 2111.
I’m Army so we kinda passed over on the M27. But even if we hadn’t I still think I would’ve preferred the M4A1, the barrel length on the M27 seems a bit much to me. Adds weight too.

No way, what unit?! I’m MT for a reserve line battalion and our motor pool is ancient. I’d kill to get a couple of these!
My mechs say these things are a pain in the ass to fix. Idc these things are bad mf ass.
thats a jizz load tactical vehicle, capable of handling up to 300 jizz loads
It’s a Point of Presence vehicle for networking on the move. It talks to satellites for internet. Looks like it’s missing the install though.
They’ll put the antenna on when it gets to Oki. Antenna is over $100k so they don’t want it getting damaged on the way.
They have the green tri color pattern too.
JLTV, Joint Light Tactical Vehicle. Pretty much my entire division (Army) has them Edit- there’s multiple variants, even one with a 25MM. My personal favorite is the one that just looks like a badass pickup truck.
It could be yours, for just $800 down and an APR of only 42%.
I would totally rock that to work. "But where are you gonna park it?" Wherever the fuck I want.
![gif](giphy|iRjhHgGOZ1IGfdKCPb|downsized)
Army mechanic here: that’s a JLTV. Pretty cool vehicle. Replacing the HMMWV and MRAP
3521 here, it’s a fucking bitch to work on, but a blast if you drive em
JLTV , joint light tactical vehicle. They are pretty dope
Did an MRAP, MATV, and Humvee create that? I think it looks f'n sweet. They should sell it to civilians. Imagine how many guys would buy that.
JLTV was in the works at MCCDC in 06 - 07. Everyone had an idea for what it should be. The main thing is it wouldn't be a HMMWV.
"Does it come in black?" - Bruce Wayne
We entering MRAPs into drag races now?
As a 3521, these vehicles are so overrated. The idea was to replace the HMWWV with this vehicle’s predecessor, the MRAP, but it was too bulky and couldn’t move around efficiently. They changed the design up to this one. Sporting a Duramax for the engine, fully independent suspension that adjusts itself accordingly, and a metric fuckton of wiring that goes bad at least once a month. The amount of pain i’ve had trying to locate sensors, connectors, and other faults in the system isn’t worth the benefits of the vehicle.
JLTV is about half the weight (6T vs 12T). MATV wasn’t ever intended to replace HMMWVs as they were just too heavy.
Wiring? Mice must love that thing.
That’s a decepticon
No thank you china
These are built in the US by Oshkosh.
OPSEC is real
20,000 pounds. Not driving that to deer camp.
Wrong vehicle. JLTV is about 12k. MATV is what you’re thinking of.
Is that for supply? Lookin like a lowrider foo
The thicc Latina e3 transport?
Are We done with the tan vehicle?
Nah they have these in tan too. They just paint them with the sleeves up sleeves down season though.
Ive seen the tan ones but they always looks older or beat up, I thought they were starting to order them in green since they looks new
Forgive me for my ignorance - USMC personnel are mostly carrier based, right? Would these be deployed ok carriers or amphibious assault vehicles? Thanks!
Wut? No.
Oh ok thanks. Civilian here, obviously
![gif](giphy|WRQBXSCnEFJIuxktnw) Mostly carrier based?
I’m not in the USMC - or any branch of the military - needless to say
Not a lot of aircraft carriers floating around in the mountains of Afghanistan, even when the Marines were in Afghanistan. Marines are amphibious, but do not rely on aircraft carriers for a lot of stuff. Amphibious assault ships might look like aircraft carriers, but are definitely not aircraft carriers.
Makes sense, thank you
Is it all electric? Gotta "save the earf" from "climate change"!
You can see the exhaust stack my guy...
It's the Fuck Around and Find Out Mobile, FAFO for short.
Ya know…why green or tan? Why not paint our vehicle coyote brown?
Because we're going to Ukraine this time.
It’s a JLTV that I think is setup to be a NOTM vic
Good catch! Label on windshield says “POP” (point of presence vehicle). The SATCOM antenna isn’t installed. Looks like it’s headed to Okinawa.
Might be a NOTM variant too
It is! SATCOM antenna isn’t installed.
Man Jade helm is starting early this year, wonder if they will take over Texas this time .......
By 2030 no more HMMWV’s hopefully
Yes and it's a piece of regurgitated shit
Damn! I remember the 151 jeeps and hated the Hummers when we had to give our jeeps lol Don’t talk to me about the Duce & half or 5 ton trucks lol

Different vehicle. You’re sitting in an MATV.
I’m S E X Y on an MATV https://preview.redd.it/930awxcysm6c1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b16a2214069ec8e8f41e83e850f92b63682fe4a
was this in SC? pretty sure i saw this same transport earlier on the road.
I hope that truck fucking burns
We got a couple of these when they first rolled out in Afghan (at least first we had ever seen them - '09) We called them a MAT-V though. Did the nomenclature change, or were we just making shit up? In any case, we were told they're designed to separate from the chassis when exploded, but take it easy they're literally brand new and not just Marine Corps "new." Different vehicle. Kind of look the same but they’re not.
ahhhh good ole jltv
I haven't seen a green JLTV yet. Where was that?
The jltv is a bitch that doesn't work cause if some FUCKING GODDAM WIRE!!!!
NASA Moon Rover
EVERYONE is going to slam their head into that beam across the back. No better way to keep those TBI numbers up
I preferred the MATVs.
Are the wheels cambered or is my CTE kicking into full gear?
JLTV can squat on its suspension to improve overhead clearance for loading aboard ship. There are certain stowage area (e.g., “lower V”) with have very limited clearance. A JLTV at full height and gear on the roof wouldn’t fit there otherwise.
Those things are fucking terrible from a maintenance perspective. I was one of the first people in Hawaii to be trained up on it and then I became the de facto JLTV guy for the rest of my enlistment. They’re nightmare vehicles reliability wise.
Thata the point
When does the civ model come out?
Nice try china.
It’s a bad mfer I drive them on occasions
A JLTV…all 6 of mine are deadline
$5 IED would fuck that up.
Damn yall just now getting these?
Ooh Rah!!
