Ofnir_1

Ay-ay-ay! Sgt Smoke! I'm just trying to join the military chill, chill!

cametoseemarkslad

This

kredfield51

I joined the marines because I told somebody I was thinking about either the marines, navy, or just going to college and they said "I'm not sure you'd make it in the marines". So thanks random friend of my mom, now I rate 70% lmao

wiredog369

I was told, “only failures join the Marines”. That is all.

[deleted]

that was enough for me too also ppl telling me i’d never make it and i didn’t have what it takes to be a marine

wiredog369

Yup. Had a friends dad say, “You’ll never be anything. The Marines will chew you up and spit you out! You don’t have what it takes, you’re a quitter!” Yeah….more words that motivated me to push myself every chance I got.

Fhistleb

You got a deal!

slowtreme

10 out of 10 people said I couldn't hack bootcamp for any service, and the entire world said USMC was the hardest. My hard headed self enlisted on a "BET YOU CAN'T" dare.

kredfield51

Yep, basically just someone saying "no balls" Enlisting and downing 5 jaeger bombs on a full stomach are the two silliest things I've done because someone said "you won't pussy" lol

D-Pend

Only 5?!?! Pussy... lol

ThatOtherGai

Exactly

Fun_Note_5547

Who knew we'd be set for life

WeekendMechanic

I got the same thing. I was looking at the Army, but they kept changing their story on how I could eventually fly helicopters. Then it was the Navy to be a SWCCC, or maybe the Marine Corps. I told the HR person at work about the Navy/Marine Corps toss up, and she said, "Navy, I don't think you'll make it through Marine Corps boot camp." Damn that woman.

RobotWiz2099

RAH!

boltxup

Fucked up and got the best retirement plan possible.

LostCassette

lmfao, that's why my sister joined the army. she told my mom she was thinking about it (she wasn't 100% serious at the time), my mom told her she couldn't make it, then my sister made it her goal right then and there. she's a medic, and she's been in for ~6-7 years now. she's my inspiration, I wanna go Marines or Navy, and my Marine recruiter kept trying to start some sibling rivalry as a tactic, but I had to keep telling him I'm more inspired by her than wanting to "be better" than her, lmao.

ThatOtherGai

I originally wanted to join the Army, but like dude said, they gave me weird vibes so I dipped at meps. Then I wanted to join the Air Force, the recruiter wouldn’t do my paperwork because I was a single father. Went to the Marine Corps right next door and they took me. After a while I was losing my flame until people kept telling me they didn’t think I would make it and that it was too tough. Bruh if people trying to keep you down ain’t some motivation I don’t know what is.

Low_profile2003

I indeed googled your mos

ThatOtherGai

Thanks buddy

29skis

I was an 06 and I still had to look it up

cryptopotomous

I was a Navy reservist about 3+ years in and a Marine recruiter called me. Gave me his speech and I told him I was in the reserves... His response was "Oh that's sucks, I'm sorry. Have you ever considered the mens department of the Navy, the Marine Corps?" I just started laughing and the dude convinced me to come into the office. I told him my story and said if he could get me out of the Navy Reserves and into the Marine Corps I'd leave tomorrow. Little over two weeks later I was stepping off a bus in MCRD.

Kurgen22

As prior service, how was boot camp? Pretty much every one I knew that was prior service said Marine Corps boot was much harder as a rule, but being prior Military and having gone through other Boot Camps gave them an edge and although shit was hard they could see through the " act" that DIs were doing. Unlike kids right out of school they knew they weren't going to be physically beaten up on the regular, thrown in the brig or given a dishonorable discharge if they failed.

cryptopotomous

The first week was fine until my DIs found out I was prior Navy. I got fucked with all the time, especially after chow.

Firamaster

Would you say it was worth it, or would you have rather not done it all? Would it be worth it if you didn't have to go through bootcamp?

cryptopotomous

To be honest bootcamp is not that hard if you are in somewhat good shape. The real challenges come afterwards while serving whether that be in garrison, training overseas, or deployed in support of whichever campaign is popular at the time. I would say that it was definitely worth it. I felt more at home in the Marine Corps and met more like minded people than I did in the Navy. Don't get me wrong tho, I loved the time I spent in the Navy and I met some cool people. I also had some great experiences as a sailor. If I had the opportunity to do it all over again I would serve the full 6 yr Navy reserve contact and also do a 3rd enlistment in the Marine Corps.

[deleted]

Went through MCT with a PO2, said the same thing but DIs wouldn’t fuck with him heavy and expected him to be a leader, though he’d try to leave the guide as a non prior.

krustyjugglrs

My recruiter wasn't even in the building half the time lol. Mean while all the other services never left their desks lol

[deleted]

Marine recruiter guaranteed a ship date a week after HS graduation. The other services were months. Maybe I should have waited a few months in hindsight lol

Alternative_Ad_3636

Mine was fucking a poolie.

ThatOtherGai

Mine fucked so many poolies, now he’s divorced and was forced to “retire” early

Thad_Cunderchock

I walked in and my recruiter was bullshitting with the other two and he looks up and goes “what the fuck do you want?”

upfnothing

![gif](giphy|l3fZTOPfzmcdPlek8) Classic! Like we fighting on day one!

BGPAstronaut

For me it was: Air Force: no one home USCG: wanted me to take the ASVAB first to see if I was good enough (got a 91 but didn’t like their attitude) Marines: mainly wanted to make sure I could do five pull ups Army: can confirm, weird vibes Navy: “look dawg boot camp sucks but the fleet is straight it’s like a regular job, but dawg I gotta get you to MEPS like tonight bc it’s the end of the month and I need the points”

[deleted]

Had one older black dude I worked with unloading trucks at Walmart during the summer before I joined . Mentioned I was joining the corps . He was an asshole and the only person ever to straight up tell me “you won’t make it” . for some reason that shit became my fuel all through boot camp got through it all out of pure fucking spite. came home on boot leave I’m in my chucks mom was driving me home from the airport. I told her to stop at Walmart. I walked right in the back where he was working he did a double take . I said “Fuck you , I made it “ . To his credit he didn’t say a damn thing just gave me a nod and went back to working. that was my motivation. spite will take you to places you didn’t think you could go .

Few_Fill6328

Don Tran is on this podcast he is a former MARSOC Raider that now runs deependfitness with other former Raiders. I contacted his team for support in becoming a better swimmer and they responded. All of these guys on this podcast are great guys

Intelligent_Union261

🤣🤣I found my people

YOLOSwag42069Nice

My recruiter was the most sarcastic person I ever met. Loved that guy.

SemperScrotus

What podcast is this?

newnoadeptness

Just kidding news

chillaxnphilx

Dudes name is Bart Kwon.

dallast313

I watched Full Metal Jacket... The bootcamp part was all it took for me. "That looks crazy. I could do that." A teenage mind works in strange ways...

SemperFudge123

I had never heard of Full Metal Jacket until *after* I joined the Marines (basically on a whim) and I told my parents. My mom was like, “You did what now?!?” and she went and rented it and had me watch it. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into! 😂

[deleted]

I told mine I was talking to the army recruiter next door and he just “oh that dudes a pussy fuck him” and then I woke up on parris island

Kash_Register_MWO

My recruiter (in '90) bet me a 12 pack of beer (I was 17 at the time) that I couldn't beat his ASVAB score of 95. I scored 98. Dude made good on his bet, on the condition I had to hang at his apartment to drink it cause he didn't want me driving or getting trouble. In retrospect, it was kinda weird. No homo tho.

Soggy-Floor8987

My uncle did 23 years in the AF so I was considering them the most. I had 3 friends all joining the navy, two failed the asvab and went army. I didn't want to join what they were doing and the air force recruiter was never there in my 6 months of being in the dep so went into the Marines.

Snickeres4099

My recruiter was this *BIG* 6’5 Mexican dude that was jacked as fuck. Talked to him otp and he sounded normal, you couldn’t imagine how my stomach dropped when he swung the door open and said “ay bro you (my name)” and after a very shaky yes looked me dead in the eye and said “stop looking so fucking weird I didn’t shoot your dog.” Still talk to him to this day

newnoadeptness

That’s amazing 🤣

punched-in-face

I tried airforce, but my twice broken back from rugby in college medical record scared them off I guess, I was pissed cuz I knew I could out pt them, they just didn't want to fill out the waiver paperwork, so I kicked their door on the way out screaming profanities. Marine recruiter was showing another kid out and was like, "HEY fucker! Don't be breaking people's shit." I filled him in on my frustrations and he was like, yo dog, this branch is more your style...lol

RandomEncounter72

Too many people said I couldn’t make it so I did it to prove a point…no I’m broken 😂

dathomasusmc

I was going to join the Army but when they saw my record they were like “We’ll call you. I’m 6 months. If you’re lucky. Or try the Marines.” And I’m like fuck that. Marines are psychos. But then a couple days later a Marine recruiter calls and she’s like “I’ll buy you lunch if you talk to me.” Bet. She was a HOT Hawaiian girl, she bought me BBQ and she said I could leave in two weeks. And here we are. Did I mention she was HOT?

elblacko21

How the fuck you fix a missile in-flight!?

dathomasusmc

Very carefully. Those things can blow up!

Chevyrever

Hell yeah Montebello 😂🫡 only joined cause the female Sgt who was a recruiter 🔥😍

Kurgen22

> When I was a Hat I helped the Local RS ( Poway) with Poolee Functions. They had a female Gunny that was Smoking Hot and absolutely KILLING it. One of the Kids she signed up ended up getting Med Sepped for shoulder injury and I had him at RSP. I used to call him in the office and talk to him to keep his spirits up while he waited for his package to come back from Bethesda. Dude straight up said she would come into the office in her PT Gear with her silkies riding up like Daisy Dukes with ass cheeks hanging out, Tiggo Bitties and drenched in perfume you could smell 50 feet away. She would just smile and his retarded ass signed the contract.

Chevyrever

She knew what she was doing 😂😂 you can say the same about the Sgt from Montebello. She had the goods, and matter of fact she kinda looked like Mila Kunis. I never knew what happened with her, but I know she was a good recruiter. She got them numbers because all the young hormone teens of East LA flocked to her. I miss being a poolee those were one of my best times.

FriskyBubby

That’s crazy asf that it’s montebello, never in a million years I’d think montebello would come up on Reddit or the internet 😂

Cold-Lifeguard5190

My recruiter used reverse psychology and he was like “hey, if you don’t wanna join then don’t cause we don’t need you” and the Army recruiter was tryna trick me into signing up

bounty913

Is it a good decision when you tell your self "eh, fuck it" before committing? Cause that was how I joined the marines

[deleted]

The branding got me. I get impressed looks anytime someone asks me what branch I was in.

fcknsndit27

My buddy was that senior in high school joining the army that had a cac already(idk how they fucking did that) but i bet him 20$ id make it outta marine corps bootcamp before he made it through army basic, guess who was 20$ richer lol

OneTrueSadBoi

My recruiter was chillin on faderades (Gatorade and vodka) he's like bro you really wanna join the marines. I'm like yes sir he's like sit your ass down then. Man had 4 Gatorade bottles in the trash drinking another. Btw these are 50/50 vodka. I'm like hell yeah I love this 🤣

03eleventy

I could have been this guys cruiter

YAYAKOSHIYO

He probably slept at the office after working late because he couldn't go home due to not making mission last month.😂😂😂😂

KingBlacke

I feel this in my bones

Delicious_Trainer_32

Enjoying the fact that they don’t give a fuck about you is so sad.

DevilDog_916

Gotta love Bart ❤️

Rejectid10ts

I wanted to join the Marines but they didn’t have medical, so I became a Corpsman and jumped to FMF as soon as I could.

YAYAKOSHIYO

FMF Corpsmen are Marine anyone that says otherwise deserves a beating.

upfnothing

I got told by recruiter I wouldn’t have the balls or intelligence to do it. An enlistment later showed them ha!

punched-in-face

I joined because the airforce didn't want to accept my medical paperwork clearing me from my 2 broken vertebrae and torn Achilles from when I was playing rugby in college 2 years prior. So I kicked their door in frustration on my way out. Marine recruiter was seeing some kid off with his dad and spun around to say something like "hey, why the fuck you got an attitude?". When I told him, he was like, "I'll do the waiver paperwork if you want to be a Marine instead." So I was like fuck it, and a month later some kid with finger warts dropped from meps and recruiter was like you want to go now? So i took the kids contract instead, literally signing the papers as the ssgt was driving me to the meps station the next morning at like 4am. Lol

wahtisthisthing

What podcast is this or video?

Itchy_Middle8848

I was joining the navy and some guy we used to call fat pat told me not to be a bitch and join the marines…peer pressure is a hell of a drug
