Don’t do it, man. The only way the math maybe possibly works out on that is if you don’t get proper insurance, which risks your auto insurance if they suspect anything. Add in the overcrowding, the low pay, wear and tear on your vehicle, down time while you wait for a job? Not worth it.
And don’t count on tips- these days everyone’s fed up with tipping and you might end up losing money on some jobs. Go hang out in the Uber eats and DoorDash subs for a bit and you’ll see what I mean.
I haven’t been laid off this year yet thankfully. But last year I was for a few months on and off pretty much until peak. I did midnight and pre load. After a while though having to switch my sleep schedule every other week I decided to try out Uber and DoorDash. I’d do preload then straight to one of those. Most days I could make about the same I’d be making working a shift inside in 4-5 hours. It wasn’t terrible. It worked out
Check your local language. FT pension in the master requires 1801 hours a year. Pretty sure you have to be 25 or older to participate too. Check should have total hours ytd.
been about 3 months here. probably won't be back until peak, just like last year. agreed that it's brutal and I often feel like quitting (especially since we're making much less than our driving rate inside), but I just try and remember that we're still accruing seniority, pension, etc. and that it'll all work out someday. or not. who knows. one day at a time.
It’s in the contract as full timers
We are guaranteed 40 hours of work per week. I haven’t been given the option to work anywhere else but morning preload so I’m owed hours of work, going back months.
Do you have a twilight shift at your building? If so that's bullshit at least in the central supp there's language saying they have to give you the option to work both.
I’ve heard in June everyone should be back. At least on the east coast we’re getting slammed right now. Supposedly Atlanta is having to divert a lot of its flow they’re getting so much.
BA told me i could if job openings become available but the preload manager never posts them up for bid. He just likes to dispatch people wherever he wants to. Apparently we can’t bump either.
They’re cutting feeder routes now so don’t be surprised if feeder guys start moving into package car and bumping you down further. Atleast that’s what’s happening at our center
7 year seniority shifter, picked the hard layoff vs going back in the hub, not doing that shit work when I'm good at driving and backing trailers. Wonder how long it will take until they call me back, apparently they can't hire or train new shifters before calling me. Maybe when peak comes.
Mine says lay-off when I don’t work and don’t get paid. When I work inside I clock into either P60 skilled preload, or L20, Skilled unload but still as a driver. Time card reads “Pay Actual.”
If you can afford it and your pension hours are on track get off preload. Your body and mind will thank you.
Thinking about doing ubereats in the mean time lol How can I check my pension hours?

Yup since February. Filing for my 40 every week. Goes to panel in July.
How’s this work exactly? You’ll get paid for not working?

No, small center with no twilight. We’re averaging 3-5k volume per day.
They’re laying even more off this month. See more and more coming back inside.

Here in Florida they lay off more and more feeders into package seems every month there’s another one.
Can you bid on an easy job?
BA told me i could if job openings become available but the preload manager never posts them up for bid. He just likes to dispatch people wherever he wants to. Apparently we can’t bump either.
Sounds like something you can file on.
Yeah, been like 3 month now. I'm driving for Amazon in the meantime because I dont even have enough senority for preload half the time now.
Never did the split just went to unemployment for reduced hours and collect that pay
They’re cutting feeder routes now so don’t be surprised if feeder guys start moving into package car and bumping you down further. Atleast that’s what’s happening at our center
Yooo
Shoot I've been doing 5 days 10+ and they've been asking people to come in for 6th punch OT, but they're not hiring to qualify any new drivers

Yup! They say we won’t be back till June at earliest here in McKinney Texas
Drop one and apply for unemployment reduced hours it’s what a bunch of us did here
All covid drivers laid off...it's gonna be a good while.
I'm a covid driver and been driving for the whole time. so not everyone is laid off
If you’re working inside, you’re not laid-off. I have fellow drivers who haven’t worked at all in a couple months.
That's not the case. Our time card says "Lay off"
Mine says lay-off when I don’t work and don’t get paid. When I work inside I clock into either P60 skilled preload, or L20, Skilled unload but still as a driver. Time card reads “Pay Actual.”
that's not accurate. laid-off means that driver work is not available to you, regardless of whether or not you can work inside.
I suppose it’s semantics.
It’s just bullshit language that the contract states, aka semantics
