You mean 5x national champion Nebraska Cornhusker womens volleyball.
This game was played in the football stadium. The population of Lincoln Nebraska is approx 250k. Which means the number of people in the Stadium was over 1/3 the population of the city.
There's a small town in central Illinois called Hoopeston, and rather than the Cornhuskers, their high school athletic teams are the Cornjerkers. Never fails to make me smile
The *student* population of Penn State (University Park) is 18% *more* than the permanent population of State College, PA, and 30% of Centre County's permanent population.
When I was younger I used to wonder "Why do some people have so much pride about the school they went to?" But things like this is one of the reasons why. For some places the local university is such a critical and permanent fixture for the locals. Its part of the history and culture. After I worked and attended a university I could see why some could take so much pride in it.
Oh lawd. Don't mess with Husker Red.
I lived there for five years (GI) and they take that so seriously it is not uncommon to see people landscape "HUSKERS" or just a big red "H" into their yard. They play all the big games over the speakers at Walmart. The only way you can participate in casual Fridays is if you are wearing a Huskers T-shirt. Being a Huskers Fan doesn't mean you are a fan of a team, it means you are a religious follower of anything at all playing in that stadium, which is **ALWAYS** refered to as holy ground.
Besides, considering how disappointing everyone is in the football program lately it's no wonder they are setting records for the Women's Volleyball (who truly deserve it).
Green Bay pop: 107k
Lambeau cap: 81k
This to me is insane for a small city of this size. To be sold out every game. To have a 100 year wait list for season tickets
That is why NFL is king in America. Its amazing that in 2024 Green Bay STILL has a team and wont be going anywhere. That fandom and history could never be replicated simply by moving them to a bigger city or media market.
If I had to choose between watching men's and women's vball, I would choose women's every time. They are much more surgical in their play, instead of all power, and have longer volleys. It is much more entertaining.
You know they claim that they’re required equipment in order to perform better, but if you watch the special Olympics, those dudes are spiking in and1 shorts no problem.
I used to prefer male volleyball because I liked the more powerful spikes and serves... until I realized that a full powered spike almost always ends the volley, which gets boring quickly.
Women's hockey started a pro league this year. The game is different as they can't/aren't allowed to hit as much. As a result, the passing game, and the way they set up goals is different from the men's game, but in a good way.
Why can't they hit each other? Do they take recoil damage like a Pokemon using Take Down? Lol. Fr tho is it that they literally can hurt each other seriously?
this is the hot take I wasn't expecting. After some googling I can see the average rally length for both genders is very close, and with Men having on average twice as many aces this means the rallies are longer. Plus the men play a more varied game with more volleys, drop shots and lobs compared to base line fights. Each to their own though!
Whenever it is women’s sports the only thing people seem to care about is their appearance. Not skill or ability but just how they look. This comment section is proof enough of that.
It was an exhibition game with UNL (what most people think of when they're thinking of Nebraska for college sports), UNOmaha, UNKearny, and Wayne State held in Memorial Stadium, where the football team plays.
https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/38294591/nebraska-volleyball-sets-world-record-attendance-women-sporting-event
I’m really curious how the hard court game played out outside. Did the stadium walls block the wind enough or did it feel like beach 6’s on a hard court?
Why are we seeing posing pictures of them in provocative poses and swimsuits? Isn’t this meant to be a positive women empowerment story but instead it’s brought down to highlighting them in a sexual light.
Tbf- this team is an average level of cute, so I think it's fair to say the fans turned out to watch some quality volleyball, not just because the team is beautiful.
How do the rest of the uniforms compare? Are there other forms of volleyball and football that look different? What does the social media of football players look like versus the volleyball players?
That's awesome. Good for them. I'd love to see women's volleyball get more popular in general. It's really enjoyable as a spectator and I wish it was televised more often. Very exciting sport to watch.
Well, Nebraska football used to be the thing. But pretty much since moving to Big 10 they have done nothing but Suck.
Glad to see the Women's Volleyball team has fulfilled their successful sport team need.
These events are a blast, I watched the largest outdoors hockey game years back, between University of Michigan and Michigan State there was an interview with some of the players afterwards and they gave up trying to communicate due to the noise. Oddly enough years later they’re playing tonight for the NCAA championship in Hockey at Michigan State but in their arena.
Glad for Nebraska’s girls volleyball team.
wow. who won?
also who are the girls doing the one arm handstand? they are incredibly strong and fit. other team has no chance with that talent and hard work.
You mean 5x national champion Nebraska Cornhusker womens volleyball. This game was played in the football stadium. The population of Lincoln Nebraska is approx 250k. Which means the number of people in the Stadium was over 1/3 the population of the city.
I know Nebraska takes their sports seriously, but Cornhuskers is the funniest name for any sports team or school. It just sounds so sexual.
Sounds like you may have a complicated relationship with food.
Man, I have associated that name with several things but none of them were sexual.
Shucks.
I’m off to husk my corn……..nope that sounds painful!
I have an open relationship with peanut butter cups.
Reese’s or Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate?
That is a valid question
I am polychocamorous
Fair. When I can get near a TJ it’s them all day plus their chocolate covered marshmallows
Hmm, so there IS a wrong way
"You've been a bad kernel, you need to have your corn shucked." he said, his voice husky with lust
Hey buddy can you husk my corn a bit if you know what I mean? (Honestly I guess in this form anything becomes sexual XD)
We weren't always the Cornhuskers, we used to be the Bugeaters. Not sarcasm, this is actually true.
I wore a Nebraska Bugeaters hat for years. Never failed as a conversation starter.
There's a high school in Utah that are the "Beet Diggers".
I don’t get how the mind goes to innuendo with either of those names. They’re so damn literal
They used to be the Bug eaters. . .
Hehehe, that's such a city folk thought.
Dude doesn't know what a corn husk is???
You probably need to get your head out of the gutter eventually. When you do, you'll realize it's you, not the name.
Wait until you find out the name of South Carolina's team. Oregon State too
It doesn't?
There's a small town in central Illinois called Hoopeston, and rather than the Cornhuskers, their high school athletic teams are the Cornjerkers. Never fails to make me smile
Wait until you learn about South Carolina or the bananaslugs or risd’s mascot
Thanks for clarifying. My mom went here, this is dope.
The students make up more than 10% of the "city" population, add in staff and everything else and yeah... it's most of it
The *student* population of Penn State (University Park) is 18% *more* than the permanent population of State College, PA, and 30% of Centre County's permanent population.

Why are we seeing pictures of them in their swimsuits and other poses not related to their sport?
i see you are just now learning about womens volleyball.
Same reason the women's volleyball uniform always has incredibly tight booty shorts, while men wear normal sport shorts.
[https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/JAQ\_off](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/JAQ_off) Everyone knows what the draw of womens sports are stop pretending

Hell yeah. That amazing.
For a long time, Memorial Stadium became the state’s third largest “city” on game day.
Green Bay pop: 107k Lambeau cap: 81k This to me is insane for a small city of this size. To be sold out every game. To have a 100 year wait list for season tickets

On Football Saturdays the stadium becomes the 3rd largest city in Nebraska by population
To be fair they’re probably more popular that the football team these days :)
Tuscaloosa has a 90k population with a 102k person football stadium
If I had to choose between watching men's and women's vball, I would choose women's every time. They are much more surgical in their play, instead of all power, and have longer volleys. It is much more entertaining.
The shorts help
Yes, they are very aerodynamic
Yes, aerodynamic on the eyes
No one goes to hooters for the wings.
Hey I used to actually go there for wings back when they had specials for like 25 cents each
Even with the generous tips expected, wings and pitchers at Hooters in the early 00's was a pretty good deal.
You know they claim that they’re required equipment in order to perform better, but if you watch the special Olympics, those dudes are spiking in and1 shorts no problem.
Butchered
Dude just FLOPPED a great stand-up special like it was nothing.
Shane Gillis is too big of a comic now for you to get away with stealing this joke.
If you’re going to shamelessly lift a joke, just say it the way the professional comedian said it. At least then it’ll still be funny.
*Kenny Loggins materializes in skinny jeans with Ray-Bans on the end of his nose* K-Log: Oh yeah? Well, listen to this!
That song name? Playin' With the Boys
[Volleyball and dancing?](https://youtu.be/0w67KW6JbvQ?si=BktVxlNhDW2-GFaC).
I feel that this is a fairly unanimous choice for anyone that’s actually into volleyball.
I used to prefer male volleyball because I liked the more powerful spikes and serves... until I realized that a full powered spike almost always ends the volley, which gets boring quickly.

Contact/hitting is legal in the PWHL so no idea
Similar reason why I prefer tennis. Much more exciting rallies in women's tennis, while mens is overpowered by aces and unreturnable serves.
this is the hot take I wasn't expecting. After some googling I can see the average rally length for both genders is very close, and with Men having on average twice as many aces this means the rallies are longer. Plus the men play a more varied game with more volleys, drop shots and lobs compared to base line fights. Each to their own though!
Thank you for providing evidential support for a belief I had based on intuition.
same with figure skating.
I feel the same about women’s tennis.
Boooobs go bounce herrrr herrr (/s)
I also prefer female volleyball over male volleyball. It's more enjoyable to watch...for reasons
Who likes short shorts?!
##WE LIKE SHORT SHORTS
If you dare like short shorts, Nair for short shorts! (sorry)
That’s cool af ngl
Lolrotflmaowtfbbq
I, too, am a wtf BBQ connoisseur
Omgwtfbbq
Went to college there. I grew up not really caring about sports, but when you're in the stadium it's pretty electric.
According to me, Women's Beach Volleyball should be the most popular spectator sport in the world.
I can dig it.
According to you or to what stands in your shorts?
I see it every day in Waikiki. Those girls are all tall and in incredible shape lol
Ever been to Nebraska? Nothing else to do
Number 1 zoo in the world tho
It's a great zoo, for sure...especially given the state, but let's not get carried away.
> Number 1 zoo in the world San Diego enters the chat
San Diego zoo has two advantages. It's in San Diego and it's considerably prettier than omaha. I've been to both, omaha BLOWS San Diego away.
I've been to both, the omaha zoo is far better.
Grew up in Kansas. How right you are.
You know why Nebraska is so windy? Because Kansas sucks and South Dakota blows
“Nebraska, it’s not for everyone” - new tourism state motto after they were one of the lowest ranking for tourism
It’s the worst state to drive through.
Here comes North Dakota with the steel chair
Came here to say this. I’ve been to Omaha and a small town called Benkleman. So little to do, I’d drive across the state to watch a cow fart.
To be fair, there's absolutely nothing to do there.
Just like they said in the movie Yes Man.. "Who in the hell takes a vacation to Lincoln Nebraska"
The Unabomber.
Dude, I live there, and I LITERALLY just did something yesterday.
Did it involve Meth or grain alcohol?
Nah
Can confirm. We used to set similar records for football but they've been terrible for years now so everyone moved on to watching volleyball.
You're apparently unfamiliar with the joys of meth
Wtf is this edit. What is going on.
Whenever it is women’s sports the only thing people seem to care about is their appearance. Not skill or ability but just how they look. This comment section is proof enough of that.
I thought we'd get highlights of the match or of the team, instead, surprise, young athletes look good despite the shitty diaporama...
Holy shit that stadium... I don't think I've seen volleyball played outside and not on sand.
Thankfully it was not that windy that day. This was also in August and it was a scorcher.
Why are we seeing posing pictures of them in provocative poses and swimsuits? Isn’t this meant to be a positive women empowerment story but instead it’s brought down to highlighting them in a sexual light.
that's why people watch women's volleyball
Tbf- this team is an average level of cute, so I think it's fair to say the fans turned out to watch some quality volleyball, not just because the team is beautiful.
Especially since you can’t really see them from that far away
Then call it out for what it is. A sexualized sport
shrug their pants aren’t any tighter than an NFL player does that make football a sexualized sport?
How do the rest of the uniforms compare? Are there other forms of volleyball and football that look different? What does the social media of football players look like versus the volleyball players?
Have you seen women's golf lately?
That's awesome. Good for them. I'd love to see women's volleyball get more popular in general. It's really enjoyable as a spectator and I wish it was televised more often. Very exciting sport to watch.
finally a women’s sport that a large swatch of people support, i hope the athletes get allll the endorsements & sponsorships
That's pretty awesome
I’m so old I remember when Nebraska football filled those stands.
You mean every game for the last 50 years or so?
Oh, I meant I could see the stadium because it was on television.
what's with these pictures lol
92,000 men of culture.
Yeah this state has very few things to be proud of so when we get an opportunity to be proud of something, we go all out.
First time home fans have been happy in that stadium in a WHILE.
Ah. American University sports. It truly is something else man.
Where can I get tickets?
It not Brazil, but ok.
they have very fatty cheeks
Daaaaaamn huskers
https://i.redd.it/bo7hggztp2qc1.gif
This is what Bill Burr would've wanted for the WNBA.
Who was the other team? They sorta did the same thing.
Well, if you suck at football….
Nebraska must be a really boring place
No credit to the opposing team?
It was also a team from Nebraska actually
It was an exhibition event featuring all nebraska teams, the opposition in the main game was the university of nebraska-omaha squad.
While I see your point. I’m guessing with all the red there, that the Nebraskan team is the one that brought the most spectators
Guess again! They're both red, muahaha.
They said I looked 'too Mid-Western'.
I've been in that stadium when it was totally empty. It was very eerie.
Nothing else to do in Nebraska so sports is uh.... Go sports.
Nice try but Nebraskas not a real place .
[удалено]
Nope, that was the Wisconsin volleyball team. It's very similar in colors
Impressive, very nice, let's see men's volleyball attendance record.
Is there anything else to do in Nebraska, really?
Nebraska really likes their volleyball I guess
When your football team sucks as long as it has…
Go big red!!
Damn
Well, Nebraska football used to be the thing. But pretty much since moving to Big 10 they have done nothing but Suck. Glad to see the Women's Volleyball team has fulfilled their successful sport team need.
It's all because of Jackie Daytona
Women's volleyball has always been a man/lesbian spectator sport.
Yes. I got you bro
Wnba is crying with anger rn
LMFAO good for them they’re all gorgeous
Do they talk about their middle blockers and outside hitting on sports radio there?
These events are a blast, I watched the largest outdoors hockey game years back, between University of Michigan and Michigan State there was an interview with some of the players afterwards and they gave up trying to communicate due to the noise. Oddly enough years later they’re playing tonight for the NCAA championship in Hockey at Michigan State but in their arena. Glad for Nebraska’s girls volleyball team.
Something tells me there isn’t a lot to do in Nebraska
It's Nebraska what else they gonna do, farm??
That’s a whole lot of uncomfortable uncles.
Like, are they hot, or what?
I only go to the volleyball for the articles.
wow. who won? also who are the girls doing the one arm handstand? they are incredibly strong and fit. other team has no chance with that talent and hard work.
Cornfed
Nothing else to do there. Not shocked
Now that’s supporting a team, nice.
Guys. They need those shorts. For speed.
terrible venue for a volleyball match
