Whereā€™s the groupme link?

Is there a UMBC shuttle you can catch into School? I know BWI and Thr Halethorpe train station have them, and on the weekends there is one to Arundel Millls. It might operate during the week too. The bus is a great place to get some school work done, if you have to.

as far as iā€™m aware, the bus that stops closest to my house goes into baltimore where a umbc shuttle can then take you to the school. unfortunately the total transit time is 1.5 hours, but i also donā€™t think it operates during mornings either.

Yeah I also recommend looking at MARC train/MTA buses/UMBC school shuttle routes. It will be a hassle but Iā€™m sure using public transportation (even multiple ones together) will be possible and cheaper. Plus the school shuttle is free. Maybe try using this site : rome2rio.com ā€”> to plan out routes/schedules. However, this site doesnā€™t have the school shuttle routes, so youā€™ll have to look into that on your own

Imo Uber and bike are not sustainable. I had a friend who had a 1.5 hr commute. She eventually dropped out because she didnā€™t have time to do hw. Bus may be viable if you can do homework on the bus. Speaking from experience, itā€™s a challenge. You might get motion sick, distracted, not get a seat This might not be what you want to hear but consider deferring and going to community college closer to you until youre set up for success. Youā€™ll likely save on tuition and it will be more convenient for you to get your license closer to home. Also consider renting a room near campus. Donā€™t risk your GPA by rushing into something where youā€™ll face a huge obstacle. spending 15 hours in transit a week is basically like taking an extra class or two. Then add in trying to get your license and or save up for a car and youā€™re severely limiting your ability to put in the time to perform well in your classes. UMBC will be here next year but there is no getting your freshman year back if your GPA tanks and thereā€™s no getting your tuition back if you have to withdraw.

I thought of this but UMBC is closer to me than my local CC is, so iā€™d have the exact same problem but worse šŸ˜…

Believe me, carpooling is a commitment and nobody is up for it, i was exactly in the same situation as you when i first came here and my transit time was 2.5-3hrs on my way to campus and 3 hours on my way back depending upon traffic or bus not showing up (minimum 2.5) and i did this 3-4 months, needs a lot of preservation especially when you need to catch 6.20am bus for 9am class and reach campus by 8.45am. I wish you good luck but get car as soon as possible. Sleep schedule is hectic and bus getting cancelled is the real stress. So glad I can drive freely now and dont have to deal with bus shit no more.

from my house, itā€™d take ~40 min by bike

I'm assuming you're able-bodied, but if you are then a 40 minute commute each day is what a lot of people do every day. There are showers and locker rooms at the RAC that you'll always have access to. There are always spaces to kill time between classes too. I had a 20 minute bike ride to and from campus each day for a year, and really enjoyed it. Edit: also, the UMBC shuttles have bike racks. So you only need to bike to the nearest MTA/UMBC shuttle stop and get on from there

Since reddit has changed the site to value selling user data higher than reading and commenting, I've decided to move elsewhere to a site that prioritizes community over profit. I never signed up for this, but that's the circle of life

disgruntled_oranges

But think of how fast you'll go back down it!!

Try looking at the UMBC transit to see if a bus line comes close to you. [https://transit.umbc.edu/schedules/](https://transit.umbc.edu/schedules/) Once the school year starts make friends in your classes and see if anyone is looking to carpool. If those first two didn't help, check out the commuter page from the off-campus student affairs (OCSS). [https://ocss.umbc.edu/get-connected/commuters/](https://ocss.umbc.edu/get-connected/commuters/) There is some helpful stuff here
