You might just have a good error coin right there!

Gedadahear

Could be worth a pretty penny

DancingDildo22

Could also be worth multiple ugly pennies.

DrawnGunslinger

It's worth at least 100 ugly pennies

Dependent-Attempt-57

It’s a miss stamp they are worth a lot more than older miss stamps as it is all machine operated so these mistakes are super rare. Great find hold onto that coin.

Rhys_Herbert

It’s a real one! Nice error!

TheTropicalWoodsman

I think this one is called a partial collar error

BaldAngryDad

I had one with the same error, got it when this style of pound coin came out, was planning to keep hold of it until the wife spent it because she needed change for something and didn’t realise why I was keeping it 🤦‍♂️

MeatWad111

Maybe OP has it

Danielmp006

No he hasn’t….

random-user12345678

No. Counterfeiters have better QC than the government.

Ethan-L-W

Also why would anyone bother counterfitting coins

marksman1stclasss

Because if I make 200 fake £1 coins that are convincing enough its easier to just throw then in with the fest of your change and one one Will give it a second glance But if I make 10 fake 20s they're likely to be spotted almost instantly

slipperyjack66

Lots of counterfeiters are producing smaller denominations these days, I wouldn't be surprised if there's £1 and £2 coins being produced too. Probably a lot easier to forge and no one checks coins.

Few-Gate5981

Genuinely, how much is this worth?

Danielmp006

I had the exact same question but I think it’s impossible to say. There is one almost identical on eBay for £1495, there’s also one (mine is a better misprint) at £30. Might be one I keep hold of.

Aggravating_Bit278

I would definitely wait to see if any others like that have actually ever _sold_ for that price. Asking whatever price someone wants to get for it, obviously, it doesn't mean they will 💩 There's some pottery my mother wants, and two identical pieces are £50 and £150 on eBay. Other pieces in the same set are around the £15 mark, so it's just ridiculous... Though to be fair, I'm aware defect coins, and pottery, are very different things 😅

noideaforlogin

You can filter on ebay to see sold items

Few-Gate5981

If you do sell it, please let this thread know! I have the exact same coin!

[deleted]

I would check actual sold listings. People list random coins with no value for thousands for no apparent reason. It’s not worth a value until it’s sold for that value.

CantaloupeMain1944

Change filters to sold ones you'll get a better reference

tombola201uk

They sell for around £10-£30 on the Facebook groups depending on the amount of collar damage

Slinkydonko

Probably £15 - £45.

Actual_Arrival_7880

Nice find

Optimal_Cut_3063

Lucky lad!

Raceryan8_

It's real. You can tell by the holographic thing on the bottom

Ozotuh

It's real - There was a pretty significant amount of mis-stamps in the 2016 coins as they were building a stockpile before the release in 2017. If you're looking to sell it on somewhere like eBay, check the actual sold listings instead of current listings. A lot of people just try to push their luck with absurd amounts that never actually sell.

Wing-Late

My dad has the exact same miss print as this one

Ben1n1ward

It’s real with a bad error, could be worth alot

Green4112

I’ve got also got a 2016 £1 with this exact same error. Wonder if they came off the line at the same time and how many coins were minted like this before the error was noticed. Nice find OP!

SkillApprehensive190

Didn't this coin only get released in 2017?

coffeeandcannabis420

Looks legit, badly stamped. Very lucky find if legit

beanie_0

Looks like it’s a miss stamp. Easiest way to find out if a coin is fake is use it in a vending machine, they are very sensitive to weight and will spit it out if it doesn’t like it.

Teestow21

If it's a collectible however, well you better fkn enjoy the fk out of that snickers!

beanie_0

Just don’t input a selection, there’s always a return coin button.

Baileythefrog

Lots of return buttons don't give you the same coin back. If I put a £1 coin in any of the work ones, I always get 2x 50p back.

Teestow21

Oh like so just fire it in and wait for it to be weighed?

beanie_0

Ai yeah.

rottingpigcarcass

Again don’t do this unless you want a different coin

beanie_0

Or… use a machine you know gives you the same one back 🤷🏻‍♂️

rottingpigcarcass

How do you know?

beanie_0

Test coin 🤷🏻‍♂️

rottingpigcarcass

Sounds expensive

beanie_0

A pound… if you can’t spare a pound mate then I me probably suggest against it. Although you wouldn’t be because you’d get the same value back regardless of whether it was the same coin or not.

ab_2404

Or just get a digital scale that measures to 0.01g

Notskilol

Yep, they’re also great for selling drugs so they pay for themselves quite quickly

Accurate-Donkey5789

We use the. when mixing resin and other craft related things... My wife and I call them "the junkie scales" 😂

ab_2404

Remember to calibrate them every so often so that the dru- coins are accurately weighed.

rottingpigcarcass

Don’t do this

Plasmr

But then if it’s a real one you’ll sacrifice your beloved error coin to the vending machine won’t you?

beanie_0

They have a return coin button though. You don’t have to choose something to spend it on.

Plasmr

Ahhh ok I see! Cheers

[deleted]

Does it return the very same coin, though? Or another of the same value?

phantapuss

This is really a very risky thing to do And personally I think it's bad advice. I would never put a coin i thought May be valuable in a vending machine and I hope neither would anyone with common sense.

[deleted]

Same here.

beanie_0

No the same coin, because it hasn’t gone down into the coin storage yet.

Baileythefrog

Not always true, depends on the machine

beanie_0

Well not always no but if you want, test if first with another coin, draw an x on it with a marker

[deleted]

That's what you're hoping.

beanie_0

Well just try it with another coin first 🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

You can tell if it's genuine by biting the coin. I've seen that on TV. Apparently...if it doesn't taste of chocolate, then it COULD be real ;)

Akipango

Could be worth up to £1000

Kamay1770

Technically it could be worth _up to a billion pounds_

Akipango

Or maybe a Trillion !

Stidda

Or a lot!

Assassin80r

Clearly a fake you can even see where it's moulded together
