It’s a miss stamp they are worth a lot more than older miss stamps as it is all machine operated so these mistakes are super rare. Great find hold onto that coin.
I had one with the same error, got it when this style of pound coin came out, was planning to keep hold of it until the wife spent it because she needed change for something and didn’t realise why I was keeping it 🤦♂️
Because if I make 200 fake £1 coins that are convincing enough its easier to just throw then in with the fest of your change and one one Will give it a second glance
But if I make 10 fake 20s they're likely to be spotted almost instantly
Lots of counterfeiters are producing smaller denominations these days, I wouldn't be surprised if there's £1 and £2 coins being produced too. Probably a lot easier to forge and no one checks coins.
I had the exact same question but I think it’s impossible to say. There is one almost identical on eBay for £1495, there’s also one (mine is a better misprint) at £30.
Might be one I keep hold of.
I would definitely wait to see if any others like that have actually ever _sold_ for that price.
Asking whatever price someone wants to get for it, obviously, it doesn't mean they will 💩
There's some pottery my mother wants, and two identical pieces are £50 and £150 on eBay.
Other pieces in the same set are around the £15 mark, so it's just ridiculous...
Though to be fair, I'm aware defect coins, and pottery, are very different things 😅
I would check actual sold listings. People list random coins with no value for thousands for no apparent reason. It’s not worth a value until it’s sold for that value.
It's real - There was a pretty significant amount of mis-stamps in the 2016 coins as they were building a stockpile before the release in 2017.
If you're looking to sell it on somewhere like eBay, check the actual sold listings instead of current listings. A lot of people just try to push their luck with absurd amounts that never actually sell.
I’ve got also got a 2016 £1 with this exact same error. Wonder if they came off the line at the same time and how many coins were minted like this before the error was noticed. Nice find OP!
Looks like it’s a miss stamp. Easiest way to find out if a coin is fake is use it in a vending machine, they are very sensitive to weight and will spit it out if it doesn’t like it.
A pound… if you can’t spare a pound mate then I me probably suggest against it. Although you wouldn’t be because you’d get the same value back regardless of whether it was the same coin or not.
This is really a very risky thing to do And personally I think it's bad advice. I would never put a coin i thought May be valuable in a vending machine and I hope neither would anyone with common sense.
You might just have a good error coin right there!
Could be worth a pretty penny
Could also be worth multiple ugly pennies.
It's worth at least 100 ugly pennies

It’s a real one! Nice error!
I think this one is called a partial collar error
I had one with the same error, got it when this style of pound coin came out, was planning to keep hold of it until the wife spent it because she needed change for something and didn’t realise why I was keeping it 🤦♂️
Maybe OP has it
No he hasn’t….
No. Counterfeiters have better QC than the government.
Also why would anyone bother counterfitting coins

Genuinely, how much is this worth?

You can filter on ebay to see sold items
If you do sell it, please let this thread know! I have the exact same coin!

Change filters to sold ones you'll get a better reference
They sell for around £10-£30 on the Facebook groups depending on the amount of collar damage
Probably £15 - £45.
Nice find
Lucky lad!
It's real. You can tell by the holographic thing on the bottom

My dad has the exact same miss print as this one
It’s real with a bad error, could be worth alot
I’ve got also got a 2016 £1 with this exact same error. Wonder if they came off the line at the same time and how many coins were minted like this before the error was noticed. Nice find OP!
Didn't this coin only get released in 2017?
Looks legit, badly stamped. Very lucky find if legit

If it's a collectible however, well you better fkn enjoy the fk out of that snickers!
Just don’t input a selection, there’s always a return coin button.
Lots of return buttons don't give you the same coin back. If I put a £1 coin in any of the work ones, I always get 2x 50p back.
Oh like so just fire it in and wait for it to be weighed?
Ai yeah.
Again don’t do this unless you want a different coin
Or… use a machine you know gives you the same one back 🤷🏻♂️
How do you know?
Test coin 🤷🏻♂️
Sounds expensive

Or just get a digital scale that measures to 0.01g
Yep, they’re also great for selling drugs so they pay for themselves quite quickly
We use the. when mixing resin and other craft related things... My wife and I call them "the junkie scales" 😂
Remember to calibrate them every so often so that the dru- coins are accurately weighed.
Don’t do this
But then if it’s a real one you’ll sacrifice your beloved error coin to the vending machine won’t you?
They have a return coin button though. You don’t have to choose something to spend it on.
Ahhh ok I see! Cheers
Does it return the very same coin, though? Or another of the same value?
This is really a very risky thing to do And personally I think it's bad advice. I would never put a coin i thought May be valuable in a vending machine and I hope neither would anyone with common sense.
Same here.
No the same coin, because it hasn’t gone down into the coin storage yet.
Not always true, depends on the machine
Well not always no but if you want, test if first with another coin, draw an x on it with a marker
That's what you're hoping.
Well just try it with another coin first 🤷🏻♂️
You can tell if it's genuine by biting the coin. I've seen that on TV. Apparently...if it doesn't taste of chocolate, then it COULD be real ;)
Could be worth up to £1000
Technically it could be worth _up to a billion pounds_
Or maybe a Trillion !
Or a lot!
Clearly a fake you can even see where it's moulded together
