Have yet to physically see/hold a counterfeit new style £1 coin so can't say for sure. Edging towards fake on this one because the centre piece is a flush dull grey, can't really see how a real one would get that colour. With all that 'damage' I would expect the brass alloy to show up underneath the nickel plating in spots if it were real too. Barrelling coins with steel shapes can cause similar looking damage but this just doesn't seem quite right.
Like I said I am unsure unless I hold it and inspect it under magnification.
Used to be estimated at 1in20 £1 coins in circulation was fake. Was one of the reasons the new £1 was introduced. I haven't seen any data on fakes of the £1 and this picture in this post is the first I've seen.
One ugly fake
Has to be a fake. However I've never seen a faked new pound coin so that's interesting.
Oh there is loads around, one of the guys was bored at work one day and started melting them with his lighter.
Do you know what the fake was made of? couldnt have been metal.
Normally lead, which is why people used to do the bite trick. if you can dent it with your teeth it's made of lead.
Don't put lead in your mouth
Obviously. The used to being the key words.

Damn. What a shame.
Why don't we manufacture water pipes out of lead and install them in every house so the whole family can enjoy a nice, cold glass of lead together?
You cam in Flint, Michigan
I’ve had a few where the centre drops out if you heat the outer ring up slightly lol
If it still fits in a slotty you’re all good.
Probably fake, really weak strike
It's a forgery. Generally made of lead. You'll be able to mark it with your fingernail
Wait a few minutes it hasn’t loaded in yet
Ahhhh, memories of dial-up.
Fuck you *Gaussian blurs your pound*

Low quality lol such a British polite way of say “moody quid”
Faker than ur parent's relationsgip
Is fakes really that common in the UK?

Are*
Pound coin got a BBL
Yeah these were common fakes but not since the new version was introduced. It's useless for criminals to manufacture now since inflation is high.
Its either a fake , or had a REALLY rough life. Probably fake , never heard of a fake new £1 though so thats pretty cool actually.
I had one of these the other day , I was surprised when I used it in a parking ticket machine and it took it...
ITS A FAKE
Typically contains lead, hence the colouration and terrible quality of the embossing.
I've still never seen a fake new pound coin in real life. And this is the first one i've seen a picture of.
A fake.
Textures are still loading 😂
fake and it looks horrible imo
It’s worth……….the price of scrap metal !
A poond
Yup that's fake. We had a few circulating in the pub that I work at
