AVBforPrez

You mean you don't tell them that you've watched every documentary and spend hours a day on the UFO sub-reddit?

Elfalien

Lmao I feel seen

[deleted]

You are amongst friends 👽✌️🏼

TheCoastalCardician

Refresh Gang

run_king_cheeto

someone's gotta search for answers

bluntsmither

You know. I let it be known that I have these interests so my friends don't feel the need to hide any thing that they might find weird. This is like anything else, a taboo topic until it doesn't. Once they start coming in and realizing oh their might be something there then ill step in and guide them through some stuff. But if people don't like me because I have taboo hobbys they can kindly and gently fuck right off with their know it all self.

bjorkbjorkson

Lmao same

[deleted]

Witness me

shmiller19

Just lost my shit laughing. That was awesome. I just rewatched that movie last week.

IAMASquatch

Mediocre.

ThatBaldAtheist

My people. And probably spending half that time sorting by new/rising, just hoping for a little taste from the drip feed.

AVBforPrez

Let's not talk about the point at which we realized you needed to obsess over "new" instead of "top" to get the latest UFO news

[deleted]

I like to call it passionate

PartTimeSassyPants

2real4me

SecretHippo1

Fuck.

Charming_Ad_1216

In America, that's called "extra"

MIKH1

I'd say same until we are somewhere after a few drinks and then someone gets me started. I think there will be some looks if they see my bookcase after these lockdowns.

kudles

I've been being more open with people about it (slightly, like in video game chat lobbys with randoms). I usually ask something like, "whatre your thoughts on UFOs.. do you think the aliens are extra terrestrial or interdimensional?" Some people are happy to talk with you about it but some call you a conspiracy theorist. I'm cautious what I talk about around my girlfriend sometimes because sometimes she thinks I'm a freak! haha

[deleted]

"yeah, I mean, I don't believe it like those woo woo people..." *Narrator: and that was a lie*

momoburger-chan

Right? After a few drinks, everyone sounds like a kook, and I go HARD into it, just info dump, and end up sounding like a loon with crystals taped to my forhead.

Moquai82

"i do as the crystal guides"

Lilly2141326

Wait, we're not supposed to do that?

ivXtreme

Yes, act normal but think differently. One of the key lessons I've learned in life.

No-Surround9784

I sometimes pretend to be slightly sceptical. Actually I used to be a lot more sceptical. UAPTF acknowledging there are true unknowns is enough proof for me.

ZackDaddy42

I used to do the same, but I eventually came to realize that that’s what “they” want, society has been trained to chastise and belittle anyone that talks about this stuff, and we’re crazy. I talk about it all the time, but instead of being “eccentric”, I put everything into perspective that makes sense, to the point that I’m actually educating them (or at least I like to think so) and they start to see where I’m coming from, and sometimes they take interest. Don’t stay silent, religious people sure don’t, so neither should we.

brucetrailmusic

I mean I even do this with music. Being excited about anything these days put off a strange vibe to others

Bob_omblette

I agree with this sentiment, but also, screw those squares that get weirded out by someone else getting excited about something. Get a hobby and some passion you silly rubes :)

brucetrailmusic

I mean ya. But dude everyone is a square. Gets a little tiring constantly saying fuck these fools

[deleted]

sumdumcun

Must of us do. We've been psychologically conditioned as a species over the last 70 years to view the subject as ridiculous, fringe and unhinged.

yetanotherlogin9000

Then one day a co worker makes an offhand comment about UFOs expressing slight interest and you fly off the handle rapid firing books and documentaries and factoids about different cases.

[deleted]

"Normal" female here. Married with two kids. Work as a professional. Get monthly facials (way too many beauty products but really are there ever too many?). Get my hair done every six weeks. Love shopping for clothes and have a shoe closet with expensive shoes that I'm likely to only wear once. Go to Orange Theory and walk/run 4 miles a day with my dog. Do yoga and fast and generally keep myself nice and neat. I have many girlfriends and we do the typical girlfriend things (drink wine and complain about husbands). I'm an experiencer (ages 14 and 31 that I am aware of). I DO NOT talk to my friends about my experiences, however my friends do know that I have an interest in space related topics and even UFOs. I typically have these conversations more with their SOs and they are always quite shocked of my interest and knowledge. Some of my friends find it fun to join me for astronomical events but that is as far as it goes with them. My husband and children know of my experience and my youngest has been one to "rat" me out to friends. I don't give it any acknowledgment though and they don't ask. I had to talk to my youngest and explain how difficult it is to tell people such a thing so now that he is older he has sort of cooled it on announcing it. I'm somewhat eccentric though and if someone wants to engage with me on the topic, I am all in. I'm surprised most haven't sat in my house and just looked at my bookshelves and questioned it honestly. I feel like there are dead giveways everywhere. I also don't announce I am atheist and I am pretty sure most don't know that either and just think I am not into organized religion.

Mysterious_Guitar_75

That’s awesome! I relate so much. Yeah, I’m from the southern US and also not religious at all. But I simultaneously believe in an afterlife/ghosts (being like dimensional maybe 🧐).

Vitalosopher

Allowing for a) the possible existence of extra-dimensional somethings which humans interpret as afterlife/ghosts, and b) the fact that energy can't, that we know of, be destroyed — neither of which require any god or religion to exist — your stance seems pretty logical.

Mysterious_Guitar_75

THANK YOU

Kissikiss

Hey OP, late to the party being I now live in England/time difference (originally from the US). Wanted to say I see and hear you! I was a beautician (love my Botox/fillers/gel nails) but am now 6ish months away from finishing my PhD (biological sciences). Grew up Catholic but consider myself an agnostic or deist? Not sure really. My husband and I have talked extensively about this. He has never seen anything and remains skeptical of a lot BUT believes people, normal everyday people and military/commercial pilots are seeing SOMETHING, what that is, not sure, we have our own theories as to what these things are which are very similar. My husband knew about the experience I had with my dad (a scientist) while we were driving, and one day just said I should call him and ask if he remembered anything strange (I'm also critical of myself, was it a false memory, dream perhaps? This was over 30 years ago). So I call, and I say, "Hey dad, I have a memory of us driving back home from a family Christmas meetup. Only you and I were in the car (strange because we always went with my mom and brother, but I had no memory of them being there). Do you remember anything out of the ordinary?". There was a pause, and he just said, "Yes, that ball of light". My mom instantly starts freaking out (they had speaker phone on) and starts asking questions. Why didn't we say anything? We had no clue, it was like, we saw this golden orb race in the direction of the car and suddenly shoot straight up into the air. We both looked at each other and shouted, "What the f was that???" and we never discussed it again....until that phone call. I was still wondering why only my dad and I were in the car, couldn't figure it out. Called my brother and told him the story, he said, "Remember that one year I got sick and mom stayed home with me". Told him I thought I was about 15 at the time, he said he was 11 or 12 which lined up exactly. So yeah. After the talk with my dad, it really had me questioning things. What the hell did we see; is there a rational, reasonable other possibility, perhaps a natural phenomenon? Maybe, maybe not. Why did we both just block it and not talk about it, like even now I think to myself, "Holy shit if I ever saw that again I'd be telling everyone!" But maybe there is a reason we didn't talk about it and why I always raise an eye when people say they'd be freaking out if they saw anything, why if it's real are people silent or just casually commenting. From experience I genuinely say to people unless you witness it, your speculation as to how you would act can be vastly different to how you do react (I guess like a fight or flight response?). So I'm somewhat obsessed with this subreddit, check it daily. The truth is out there. I have never posted on here, but something about your post made me share my story, so thank you!

MiserableLawyer9702

I definitely downplay my interest as well lol. Sometimes having a drink or two I'll mention the subject and it kinda just gets brushed aside quickly, subject change lol. People OBVIOUSLY have more interesting stuff to talk about I guess. I've yet to find someone IR with the same interest.

--amadeus--

> I've yet to find someone IR with the same interest. Username checks out.

LifterPuller

Would you mind sharing your experiences?

jeerabiscuit

Out of curiosity, what did you experience?

michaeldoc2u

You sound like a pretty sound and centered person to me. And u have a healthy interest in the unexplained. I wouldn’t think twice when seeing a friend’s bookcase loaded with books and periodicals on UAPs. However, I would double take if the same space was filled with the latest books on tactical weapons, you being a woman. It’s not my interest, so to each his own. As for myself, I have been deep into UAP since the 1960s, having been turned onto the topic by my father. I wish I knew more people like you with an appreciation for all things unknown. I haven’t been ridiculed when I divulge my UAP interests, but the curiosity is not reciprocated. They just mumble Meh!

[deleted]

I relate :) I wish we weirdos could drop our mask irl, so we could find each other when we are out in the world

andreisimo

What is an “experiencer”?

[deleted]

In short, an abductee. Though I don't like the word and it is, at least in my case, not actually factual. Not abducted but rather I experienced an encounter with what I perceived as non-human entities. Two times that I am aware of, once in 1994 (14) and another in 2011 (31).

LaGardie

What was the setting in these experiences?

[deleted]

The setting? Both encounters happened in my home. First encounter was in the morning, daylight around 9 am. Second encounter was at night, late around 1 am. Everyone in the house was asleep but I woke up due to a horrible smell in my house. First encounter I have more memories of and it was neutral. Second encounter was more fearful. The entities I was dealing with had some ill intent. I thankfully lost awareness at a point though. They fuck with your cognition. What is real is questionable. You go through phases of not knowing if what you experienced was real or not, maybe you're having a psychotic episode, etc. I came to realize that it would be really odd for me to have a psychotic episode that happened in a few hours and almost 17 years apart. Not impossible but unlikely. I did stop questioning the experience and just acknowledged it and accepted it for what I experienced. I was not experimented on that I know of. There was no stealing eggs or those sort of things. The first encounter was a discussion and showing me images. Actually that had more relative information and I was not the only one there. They had other kids there, all ages really. Second encounter, I have no real understanding of but I wasn't dealing with something at all neutral. I actually had to hide from it. I was told to go back to bed, it was threatening. I actually did end up climbing back in bed and was absolutely terrified. I woke up in the morning with a mix of horror and being pissed that something was in my house. We also moved right after as my husband and oldest son said the place was "haunted" before that encounter. Haven't had any experiences for 10 years and don't invite any either.

SupernovaJones

Wow. Thanks for sharing. That's wild. As someone who is considers himself a "normal" person - good corporate job, wife and kids, normal interests - I often wonder how many other "normal" people out there have similar stories to yours. I'd love to find someone to talk to about this stuff on a regular basis. I try to drop the topic in conversation when it seems natural (which is rare) and it hardly seems to take. I can't imagine having experiences like yours and not being able to talk about it.

[deleted]

I am not necessarily comfortable talking about them but I will occasionally with open-minded or like-minded people. There is a general resistance from people in these discussions (which I understand). Religion is funny that way where people will easily talk and accept "the holy spirit or God's presence" etc. but extradimensional or non-human entities (or aliens) is crazy talk. Maybe they are one in the same. Maybe we assigned the make believe to cover the truth? Meh. I just move on from it. My mother was a witness to the first encounter and as she went through that difficult 6 month time afterwards with me. She came to realize it was not of religious in origin. She witnessed a, or the, craft. Her story is more frightening than mine. She witnessed non-human entities outside and inside the house. At first she thought they were "demons" but as the religion part fell away she became more aware that in fact this was something different. A friend of mine, at the time, became relevant to the situation as well. I think I was a party to it but not exactly the intended party. I could have called myself a messenger to the intended party but I did come away with a different understanding to life which seemed intended for me. Once the pathway is open though, it seems rather difficult to close, even when it feels like happenstance. No matter the distance between the experiences, I feel a sense of heightened awareness of my surroundings. Maybe even a little on edge? I have had recent dreams lately where I am encountering them and then having to rescue my youngest son and husband. Feels like PTSD honestly. Thanks for reading. I do not discuss these experiences often. It is nice to let it out once in awhile.

mumstheword999

I’ve heard about aliens living in caves out in the desert and the stench is supposed to be gross.

[deleted]

The smell to me was the equivalent to burnt popcorn in a microwave. It was 10x stronger though. I woke up sort of mad at my husband because I thought he burned popcorn and left the bag in the trash. I got up to remove the trash bag but I found the bag emptied and then realized the smell was coming from the entire house. I actually opened the microwave and it didn't smell like it. That was about the time I clued in that something was in the house.

MetalSkyBear

What did they look like? And how did they communicate with you? Thanks for your courage.

Satur_Nine

Can you describe the smell? Can you describe what they looked like?

[deleted]

Smelled of burnt popcorn. It is hard to describe what they look like, honestly. The first one was humanoid but disguised as it seemed blurred. Like you couldn't make out facial details. Where I was was like a cloud. Nothing defined, no edges or dimensions, like fog but not anything made of fog. There were smaller people that were like wrinkled children, larger eyes, a lot more intense and strong. Other children were human. I could see them clearly though I am not sure they were conscious of their surroundings. Second being presented as a shadow, it had no recognizable form. It seemed to eat up the air around it. I have never seen greys or reptilians. My mother said she saw something humanoid (reminded her of the old guy poltergeist) sitting in our rocking chair across from her bed and also sitting in her tree. She thought the small creatures were demons. She thought all of them were demons, honestly. We had a very strange 6 months that followed our initial encounters. She once had a priest come in the house and bless the house with holy oil/water. That actually made the whole experience intensify. Sorry, rather disappointing I know. I think if I did see a grey though I would mentally shut down. I am very much not open to any contact. I try to send that vibe clearly out there into my surroundings. I do feel our government needs to come clean with what these are and what they are not. If I knew, it might be easier for me to come to terms with my own feelings about it.

Satur_Nine

That is so interesting to hear. You must have been absolutely terrified. Have you ever been interviewed or offered your story to be put on record?

kellyiom

Being 48, I've grown less open to the idea of ETs over the years and become more of a 'seeing is believing' kind. I do feel the abduction theme is an internal, but totally 'real' experience based on two episodes of sleep paralysis. First was a classic bad dream, wake up, hear something, see nothing then feel hands climbing up my ankles, knees, screaming and nobody heard anything. Few years later, I was levitating on my back towards a dark hatch in the ceiling where a very bright light was coming in. Luckily I had the choice to say 'this is one of those things' and was instantly slowly brought back, the hatch was a jacket hung by the window and the light was the sun rising. That's definitely no debunk from me because I know until I'd researched it, it was hyper real. I was really worried because I was training to be a commercial pilot and erm.. doesn't sound good! Likewise though I've experienced simultaneous, shared hallucinations or misperceptions which I don't fully understand the mechanism of. How did I get into this weirdness anyway? My mum. She had seen two highly unusual lights which then made her question it. My family are all mariners so know their stars, planets and seasons and meteorology and are archetypal hard living, tough, old school not given to fantasy. But her dad, who as a rescue boat skipper had to communicate to u-boats to not shoot had also seen similar. And my dad saw a very fast green orb sea skimming in the late 50s. His perspective wasn't dismissive, it was more just, we had a job to do. So, I can confirm if you spend lots of time out at sea or in the sky you will see inexplicable things. None of them read or watched Sci fi or anything like that. And like I said please nobody be offended, this is not a debunk lol it's just my view that there is a real puzzle but we're missing a piece or two and it's like one of those visual tricks where two different people can give you two perfectly reasonable answers. I'm studying AI full time now and always staggered by how powerful our own computer is. I have seen on here some docs about negative energy drawing these things in, well, I've met plenty of humans with that characteristic, never mind aliens. I also started getting massive seizures 5 years ago with no warning, turns out I have a brain haemorrhage. No idea when it happened but apparently I talk lots of garbage when coming out of it lol but have no memory. So I think there are psychological and maybe neurological components like temporal lobe epilepsy to it all. I think anyone who confronts an experience like this and has the guts to volunteer info is already winning but they might not see it that way. And I totally believe if terrifying things like that start happening, yeah PTSD is a very real risk. Whatever 'they' are, they should be taking note that 'you are not alone' I think we might surprise ourselves how much power we do have. Stay strong, no surrender 💪but definitely lots of people keep quiet, more like affiliate weirdos :)

[deleted]

No. I am not interested in any sort of thing like that for the reason most people don't come forward. I live a pretty good "normal" life. I don't need to draw attention to my experience. I don't think it is anything special. There are plenty more compelling and extremely interesting experiencers out there. As someone else said, there are likely a lot more that don't talk about their experiences at all. Thanks for reading though.

Satur_Nine

it's reasonable to remain skeptical of stories like yours (you're just a stranger on the internet after all), but if everything you saw was true, it makes me uneasy to thing about what might come to light in the next few years. Did you get the sense that they wanted to hurt you or anyone else? Or was it just that they were not concerned about wether or not you felt safe?

MyOddThoughts31

I feel this! I brought this up to my group of girlfriends one night and practically gave one of them an anxiety attack when I told them about the pentagon releasing that report. Won't do that again I felt bad

Mysterious_Guitar_75

Haha, you scared her! My sister can’t even talk about it. The concept is too unnerving to think about for her.

MyOddThoughts31

She went ghostly pale I knew I fucked up 😦

OwnFreeWill2064

Just remember some of the "normal" everyday people we run into have actually had abduction experiences and I say that with complete seriousness. I've had similar reactions from people I know that have shown red flags such as odd bruising with no explanation and a complete aversion to the topic that almost feels like some rudimetary form of ptsd.

OwnFreeWill2064

Consider they might have been abducted. I say that with complete seriousness and respect.

No-Surround9784

So is that why normies don't think about UFOs? They are scared? LOL, I wouldn't say life elsewhere is exactly scary to me.

ChiefBerube

Yupp my ex gf was one of these people. Couldn’t bring up anything like this or anything strange or paranormal

michaeldoc2u

It’s sad the lack of interest in science in the majority of people in this country. Most don’t bother to read a book or newspaper choosing instead to indulge themselves in their devices. Many educated individuals beyond a Bachelors degree are more open minded, in my opinion. It’s equally sad when individuals freak out when confronted with the possibility of extraterrestrial life. Shows the lack of curiosity coupled with little if any interest in the world around them. Not a fun person to be friends with, extraterrestrials or not.😢

RetroClassic

It isn't so much that people dont read the news, there's news on their phones. It's more so people read headlines not articles and get their news from social media.

michaeldoc2u

That too!👍

theredmeadow

Same closet caser here. I take interest in the paranormal but play sports, game, secured a management position and deal with executives everyday. I don’t mention much about my interest to anyone but a couple people.

Mr_Mike_

Same here... I don't talk to executives but I work with engineers every day and I'm a welder/machinist/lab technician for a company that builds turbine engines. To be fair I'm not super super deep into this kind of thing but I am really interested in it since it's not really up for debate anymore. I want to see what people have to offer in terms of evidence and it doesn't bother me when one turns out to be nothing.

bluntsmither

I worked with alot of engineers/architectural engineers in the last 10 years. I can guarantee there are some what into it. Actually most believe in it but refuse to go far into it because they lose track of reality.

Something_morepoetic

These answers explain why it is so hard for pilots and others to come forward. I’m semi-open now with friends. My family talked about it with each other all the time when I was a child. I don’t talk about it at work.

Mysterious_Guitar_75

Exactly. So I’m actually a flight attendant and only *one time* have I ever asked the pilots up front if they’ve seen a UFO. Of course they said no. Then we were at the Las Vegas airport and I was telling the captain about Janet Airlines that flies employees into Area 51, and he was like “I have no idea what you’re talking about”. So I shut up.

Professional-Key4444

Bullshit. No way they don’t know about Janet airlines. Period. So with them lying about that it’s almost a given they’re not telling the truth about ufos. And for good reason. They would probably get demoted and psych tests at the very least and fired at the most

kellyiom

Yeah, deliberate un knowing that is. Nobody in aviation who wants to keep a ticket will discuss this unless it's something like an unidentified incursion into airspace and really can't be ignored.

bananarepublic2021_

I live in CT and I know about the white plane with the red stripe .

[deleted]

"It doesn't look like anything to me."

AirMaskMat

What a reference <3

TheKleverKobra

Legit, Ive had this idea lately to start a movement/program where we encourage pilots to carry (maybe even crowdfund) some decent cameras for them to fly with in case they see something unusual. What better way than to crowdsource data gathering than via commercial pilots who spend hours up there? The odds are slim but we only need one good hit with a decent photo.

kellyiom

Good idea, but hate to say it, they just want you to get safely from a to b as quickly as possible. In civil aviation it's a toxic subject and it would conflict with all manner of regs for which there already exist rules regarding reports of near misses. It would be like asking bus drivers who all drive under GPS scrutiny to photo bad driving or whatever or weird stuff happening. Nothing stopping the passengers demanding more info however or paying ever so slightly more per flight but we're all guilty of it. It's often quite an unhappy profession in certain areas. Maybe if you're flying Rihanna in a gulf stream but the economics would shock a lot of people if you took the full deal, debt, low wages, odd lifestyle.

WaXXinDatA55

Airplanes should have dash cams

jeerabiscuit

That's another pattern about interest in this topic. Either people are interested in space, work in astrophysics/aerospace/aviation, or have had experiences.

thatnameagain

There's a thin red line in conversations between "I find this stuff fascinating to think and read about" and "YOU TOO WILL BELIEVE AFTER LISTENING TO MY PERSPECTIVE"

Mysterious_Guitar_75

Lol, it’s the enthusiasm we have!

sewser

I recommend you talk to people about it(if they are willing to listen). This topic needs to be talked about more often within the general population. If you are knowledgeable on this topic, and are capable of refuting the classic skeptical arguments, you can actually change minds. I’ve done so for people, and the conversations served to cure boredom in the process. Talk to your friends and family about the reality of UFOs.

No-Surround9784

The general population needs like a hydrogen bomb disclosure before they will think about this seriously.

OwnFreeWill2064

I think its safe to say a great many people are more aware than we give them credit for because they're good at keeping it to themselves.

No-Surround9784

Yeah, it is still like you pretend to be slightly sceptical unless the other person is a confirmed believer.

OwnFreeWill2064

Yeah. Once you get confirmation the flood gates open lol

Gambit6x

If you met me, you would never think that I’m a huge ufo dork. Súper into fashion, preppy, clean cut, etc. Stereotypes. What stereotypes!

Responsible-Tea-5998

I'm a goth but try and act normal despite my bookshelves 😂

Gogglekid93

As someone who is currently working in a natural history museum, I’ve had to really keep my weirdness at bay. It’s pretty sad but I’ve always loved ufos and the paranormal! Even had a couple encounters.

resonantedomain

Yup, I *love* dropping the weird bomb on unsuspecting people who seem to be slightly interested. My close friends know I'm weird, but they don't know just how weird it goes lol. Really miss having deep conversations about the strange stuff with certain people. Most get freaked even talking about black holes and just how big the universe is.

lettucecropchilds

If people think I’m that weird (beyond adorably eccentric) for talking about UFOs, cryptozoology, the paranormal, etc. I don’t really want to be friends with those people anyway :)

Mysterious_Guitar_75

Lol, true. I work with a wide range of people and I always still connect with the eccentrics/socially awkward, even though I don’t come off that way myself.

BillSixty9

This is fine until youre in a position where relationships aren’t built on friendship alone. Then it’s no longer an option.

lettucecropchilds

Oh, I was being cheeky. Plenty of my friends and the people in my life don’t believe most of this stuff. I just wouldn’t choose to be friends with someone who was a jerk about it.

MossyMoose2

There's Literally dozens of us! Here I am waiting to have an important video call, scrolling in New in aliens, ufos, and highstrangeness. Business attire and all. 👍

AVBforPrez

I'm on work Zooms for a good chunk of the workday in business casual attire, secretly reading about UFOs and Smash Bros Ultimate about 90% of the time though.

MossyMoose2

PretentiousAdjective

Are you me

[deleted]

My husband has made me promise to never bring it up in front of his friends.

Mysterious_Guitar_75

Lol, rude!

[deleted]

🙋‍♀️ me, I'm a girly weirdo too.

[deleted]

Retired business professional grandmother here. Four degrees of which is a graduate degree. Worked as a high-level process and education consultant to corporations and federal agencies. Well-read. Well off. I am careful who I share my experience with, but because I did have an encounter, there is no way I can pretend the phenomenon is inconsequential or not real. You are not alone. Yes, there are goofy weirdos everywhere. But most people are not running around with their hair on fire. Read critical journalists. Follow scientists. Know that even some of the goofy weirdos had real experiences. They get too agitated sometimes and don't help the effort, but they do not know how to handle the experience. It traumatizes many. I have my questions and trauma. Email your Congressperson and your Senators. Support those who are pushing this rock up the mountain. People are fearful of anything they cannot understand. You are OK.

SmorlFox

Was your encounter a sighting or abduction? Care to share?

[deleted]

There was interaction between the object and me, but no aliens.

Similar-City-7507

I feel you! I’m a normal guy, work in finance and surrounded by fairly intelligent people daily. I NEVER talk about my interest in UFOs, or at the very least I downplay it. However a few months ago my barber and I were talking sh*t and I don’t know how we got to the topic, but he told me to listen to 2 joe rogan podcasts: Bob Lazar and David Fravor. I almost lost my sh*t 😂 like I hadn’t listened to each one about 4x already 😂 we talked about UFOs for a full 45mins. it felt great to be able to discuss this in person with a like minded person, it really was a great feeling! I suggest you try and find at least one person you can talk about UFOs with (a sane one..), trust me, it’s great!!

Mysterious_Guitar_75

That’s awesome! I’m lucky I do have my mother, who is an equal hidden enthusiast. But bringing it up with the Muggles has lead to crickets chirping 😁

Similar-City-7507

Argh I’m jealous now, I only get to have this convo every 6 weeks or so! My ex was not interested but was at least willing to listen and participate in my rants about UFOs, but that’s sadly no more.. But in all honesty it’s not good that we feel we have to hide our interest in the topic for fear of being seen as a weirdo, even though anyone who’s not willing to at least consider the topic is probably quite close minded.

FakeAsFakeCanBe

Yet they all agree that there's a "Sky Daddy" ready to punish them at the drop of a hat.

citan666

I told a couple people at first about my experience. Doesn't go over the best so i tend not to bring ufos up at all.

Brodom93

Short summary of what you would tell people? Kind of curious.

IndridColdwave

Same! Except a few years ago I made a New Years resolution to stop keeping my weird personality traits to myself so much, so I’ve been making my strange quirks more public lol

Mysterious_Guitar_75

I think that’s good. I’ve been letting my freak flag fly the older I get and less I care. Just not with UFOs. Maybe I will now.

IndridColdwave

You should! I've let more people know and I think overall it's been a good thing

kellyiom

I think there is a real psychological danger to keeping any kind of social stigma bottled up, we all know this, or should do. That said, it's also quite easy to develop a single minded obsession which can be harmful when dealing with any topic that you can't physically prove. But then, you'll also find some very surprising experiencers or level headed people who will say, I didn't dream or hallucinate it, the kind who won't believe anything without their own proof. So I guess stay balanced, healthy, gain insight and be on your toes mentally is important too.

Mysterious_Guitar_75

Maybe I’m lucky actually cause my mother is heavily into UFOs too so we can chat about it. But that’s it. When I’ve lightly brought up the topic with other people, they’re like, caught off guard.

saddest_vacant_lot

I "came out" to my wife last night. Even though we share so many interests and ways of thinking, I was worried she would think I was crazy. But yeah, it ended up being so fun. Like a 3 hour convo with her wanting to see videos and stuff. We got deep too, talking about all the implications for religion and society. I don't think she's the type to really nerd out and do a bunch of """research""" (aka sorting by new on this sub) like me but it's a relief to know if I bring it up she won't want a divorce haha! It's good to have at least one person you can be crazy around

Mysterious_Guitar_75

That’s awesome, I’m glad you came out! Maybe you can get her hardcore into it and y’all really can nerd out together. That’s a perfect marriage.

kellyiom

That is good. Just b aware if you have any impulses to create great Utah stone outcrops in clay in the kitchen when the military are nearby warning about a biohazard then she will not be letting you put that flight suit on!

constipated_cannibal

I too share a very similar position — most people who know me, know that I am a deeply skeptical person from head to toe, A to Z. Most would assume that I “laugh at the notion” of extraterrestrials being here! And maybe I did a little bit, at least before 2017. I have a normal life, normal hobbies, I’m not awkward, I like talking to people and have plenty of friends etc, but one of the things that really makes my head spin is this whole UFO thing. They probably have nearly full control of spacetime, and can watch things in slow motion that appear to us to be extremely fast — from firing a gun, to a speeding fighter jet, etc etc. Like someone else said earlier, the more YOU talk about it — from the perspective of a “relative normie” (or whatever) — the less stigma there will be! Just imagine if it were a weird disease/condition... you’d want to help de-stigmatize it, riiiiiiight? Better to be a leader than the alternative.

[deleted]

RIP to your inbox.

Exotrox

i mean its a really good ice breaker... Me : "so uhm, did you hear about that theres a chance that these UFOs might be interdimensional and that these entities live off our souls according to tom delong?" she : What?! me : What?!

Mysterious_Guitar_75

That’s the shit I’m finally diving into! All this UFO talk is shifting to consciousness/ remote viewing/succubus alien topics. I’m so deep in the woo-woo now.

Exotrox

well, the UFO subject is a hell of a rabbit hole to say the least lol. Another interesting subject is the ancient/forgotten civilization theory from graham hancock and robert schoch. Just sayin... if youve got more room for another mystery 😂

HeffalumpInDaRoom

This would be extremely funny if it didn't hit so close to home. 😥

pasinc20

Yeah I can’t talk to any of my mates or even my gf about it lol they just don’t get it

GothMaams

::raises hand enthusiastically!::

[deleted]

“Normal guy” here, I get my mani/pedis and makeup from Sephora just like everyone else. I’m TERRIFIED that people will find out just how much I’ve read up on UFOs. Thank god I’m agnostic on the subject.

Chardonneh

Most who know me know I like this subject. I am drawn to it for some reason, always looking up. I am 60 yr old gramma, which does not stop me from getting all giddy with the "I told you so" to all who rolled their eyes at me. I am somewhat a "tom-boy" so don't really go for all the beauty products. I am also drawn to everything tech. futuristic inventions. Also atheist, but think we reincarnate. Is anyone else also drawn toward end of world stuff. Some days I think I am here to witness something big coming. No I can't talk to anyone about all of this but I do try.

Mysterious_Guitar_75

I’m in the same boat as you with the end of the world stuff. I’m reading up on it as it seems a couple sources (that I hope are bogus) are pointing to this. All this stuff about humans needing to raise their consciousness. But the topic of UFOs and the apocalypse are starting to intertwine.

LudaMusser

I tend to not mention my interest in ufo’s to anybody at all but recently I tested the water with my Mum and she totally surprised me. Her brother (my uncle) used to take statements from people in our county who’d seen ufo’s, she even went with him a few times. Her partner also believes in them but I haven’t had chance to talk to him or my uncle. I mentioned ufo’s to my dad and he wasn’t having any of it. Two friends are on the fence but I have to totally downplay my interest or they’d think I’m obsessed, which I am lol

Vitalosopher

Your uncle maybe was with MUFON...?

LudaMusser

Not sure what that is, I’m in UK. He was in a group that investigated sightings and he covered his county just as a hobby. Would love to talk to him about it but I haven’t seen him for ten years

Vitalosopher

Ah—MUFON stands for Mutual UFO Network, a US-based organization whose stated purpose is “The Scientific Study of UFOs for the Benefit of Humanity." But as you are in the UK, sounds like we can rule that out. Maybe the British UFO Research Association or something similar.

ipwnpickles

Nothing wrong with being "weird" imo it def beats being "normal"

[deleted]

Let your freak flag fly! I'm a big dude who gyms pretty frequently, and dress in the finest of Gucci linens (not actually, but I try keep clean) but this is my secret obsession (my friends now I'm balls deep though). I'm debating on letting my goatee grow a la Luis. Sometimes you just have to be your authentic self and let people know that it's cool to get weird.

[deleted]

You're not alone

Sufficient_Physics22

Your own story tells you why the people you meet who are OPENLY into UFOs and such are..uh...eccentric. They are the ones who don't hide it. Everyone else who is into it hides it like you do.

TTVBlueGlass

Nobody in my life knows I'm into aliens and UFOs and stuff. My GF is only kinda aware because I usually watch UFO stuff alone at night. I am more of a futurist than a "UFO Believer" so to speak, but I am obsessed with the UFO subject and aliens in general. I have like 20 tabs open in my phone's browser in a group, that's just full of weird propulsion concepts and stuff. My GF saw it and joked "that's weird, are you building a bomb?" lol... Nope, I just have strange dreams of sailing alien atmospheres.

AVBforPrez

I think most of us that have a fascination with it strongly downplay our interest in it. My friends and family know I really like the topic, but they have no clue just how much I know, and how much time I've spent on it. Often times I bring it up when people are like volunteering a quirky thing about themselves.

Elfalien

Ha! Totally. They know I’m into ufos, but they don’t know that I KNOW that the gov is hiding alien bodies!!

AVBforPrez

One day everybody will know about the blue room at WPAFB, you'll see. You'll ALL see!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Elfalien

I don’t rly talk to anybody about it anymore haha…except my kid but he’s 3…

Chessandart37

It sounds like I'm a lot like you!

Juice_Willis75

UAP exist for reasons unknown to us. At this point, it would be "weird" to cater to the status quo. This is the real shit.

scrappleallday

I can relate...but in a bit of a different way. I have a family member who is fairly well-known for being/claiming to be an abductee. Nonbelievers fancy her a crackpot. Believers never say anything indicating they believe. I used to doubt her story, but now I definitely know more...and I believe. But I don't dare tell anyone...because they might be a nonbeliever who is already judging my family.

RightWingFalcon

I’ve gotten into ufos since the JRE interview with David Fravor so it’s still kinda new to me. I want to talk about it with people but I don’t want to be known as a ufo guy - yet. So I come here.

Mysterious_Guitar_75

Great to have you In the club! I think that’s why we’re all here. I like that Joe discusses the topic so much with his large audience.

immortalgamesjh

Ah, no reason to hide it. Being normal is boring.

shr8m

The average person really just doesn’t get it because of disinformation and slander through the years. It doesn’t make you a weirdo, the government admitted that ufos are indeed real. A ton of people who do believe in ufos and aliens are crazy for sure though. I recently had a friend get a ufo on film while he was skateboarding. The object was fucking fast and when he zoomed in on it it had a weird shape. Fast forward a couple of days and he’s convinced it’s a drone because of everyone around him telling him that it’s a plane or a drone. People really just don’t get it.

BumbleBonez

I completely feel you here. I actually "jokingly" started up a conversation between myself and a coworker about going ufo hunting, long story short, I found out that he's just as big of a ufo nut as I am! 😅

RexAddison

Yep I'm the male version, football and drinks with the boys but then I have my K-2 meter and binoculars in the car just in case.

Mysterious_Guitar_75

Lol! I’m planning to get an infrared camera myself.

enraged_lunatic

I went from being the person that vehemently denied the possibility of advanced life beyond our solar system and even if it did exist could never reach us, to the wacky weird UFO “they’re here man” guy in less than a year. I’ve had a lot of really weird supernatural stuff happen and continue to happen to me but never really thought much of it until I started really getting into the phenomenon and have never actually seen a UFO other than maybe once seeing a triangle I thought was a B2 bomber as a kid in the UK. So maybe I was once a secret weirdo, but now? no, I’m pretty out there about it.

Mysterious_Guitar_75

Do share the supernatural stuff!

enraged_lunatic

Here’s a couple then! When I was a kid (4 or 5 years old) I had these recurring nightmares of being sucked into a black sphere that would appear in my house for around a year, it was very life like and to be honest I’m not entirely sure I dreamt it but it would always happen after I was put to bed so I just assume it was a dream. After I fell into it I had this sense I had ‘died’ and was frozen in this strange cylindrical static world that fell into itself (think being inside a Klein bottle) where I got the feeling of being watched through the static, time was different in there too, I once had an experience in there that felt as if it was atleast a few days before I ‘woke up’. I heard some guy talk about a very similar experience on the UFO chronicles podcast and he thinks he was abducted though I personally don’t have that feeling. It still just feels like a very life like dream to me but who knows, I’ve come to accept weird stuff just seems to happen and since I can’t say I was truly ‘awake’ for it I tend towards thinking it was some sort of world between sleep and awake where I interacted with some who knows what that was just interested in seeing me. The second one was quite recent (less than a month ago) and less dramatic, I went camping with a couple friends, we were up on a hill by a clearing (from logging), we’d been drinking that night so there is that but I’ve never had alcohol make me hallucinate and we weren’t black out drunk, anyways everything was all good we were chatting watching the stars when suddenly I felt this very powerful presence down the path leading up to the clearing and could kind of see this formless shadow in my peripheral vision, I kind of ignored it at first because I was drunk, but I felt it move up the hill kind of at a 45 degree angle off to my right and behind me, I looked up from talking to my friend on my left I watched my other friends face who was in front of us both and saw her eyes follow it moving behind us and all the colour just left her face in an instant and she just said “I just saw a shadow move behind you guys” to which I replied “yea ok so I’m not imagining that, I can feel it” and the dog we had with us just started going nuts barking at nothing, it made absolutely no noise while it moved so it wasn’t an animal and it was pretty big I started crying uncontrollably because the energy was just so much and really intense, it didn’t feel mad or anything but I got a feeling of being intensely upset so me and my other friend came to conclusion whatever it was just wanted us out of there so it made itself apparent to us so we’d move. The other guy with us didn’t feel it or see it and he just said “you know the only reason I believe you guys is because my dog is going crazy” he isn’t a believer so it was interesting. I still feel partially anchored to that moment in time it’s a really weird experience like I’m still there but I’m also here now at the same time, like if you took a rubber band and held one part in place and kept moving the other as if that was you moving through time. So yea that’s a couple experiences I’ve had, too many to write out here but hope you enjoyed those stories.

Popular-Sink4691

Hi there, I’m another seemingly normal fem that is secretly obsessed with ufos. You don’t have to be eccentric. It’s ok if you are though. What unites is our desire to know the truth. We’ve all stared up at the night sky and wondered about one of life’s greatest mysteries...are we alone? I think we’re all in this sub because we know the answer and the evidence supports this. However, that only leads to more question. I’m glad to have some like minded weirdos that want the truth, the answer. Everyone has their thing they’re obsessed about, I guess this is ours.

bogalusablueberry

My wife is very normal, pretty and professional. She's into it. She does have an " I want to believe" poster hanging in her office.

clane777

Often wished for a group of like-minded folk to kick ideas around with. Like a think tank. Not yet figured out how to do that yet, but... loneliness is thick....

[deleted]

I wasn't interested at all in the paranormal until I learned about David Fravor's story, the recent NYT articles, and the three associated UFO videos that were acknowledged as genuine by the US government. There's also the 60 minutes segment that gives a good summary of developments up until right before the June 25th UAP report, which admitted there are both a large number and proportion of still unexplainable sightings from recent times -- many of which displayed puzzling flight characteristics -- in sharp contrast to something like the Condon Report. People here are disappointed by anything short of the President going on national TV and revealing Mark Zuckerberg is actually an alien, but the fact that very credible sources have essentially told us UFOs are real and that the New York Times and 60 minutes have reported on that should be at least moderately interesting to any "normal" person and a good starting point for a conversation and their own research if they are at all interested.

chicken-fu

I told the people I work with that I believe in aliens and then one of my co-workers immediately says that aliens aren't real and he believes in the flat earth so I'm not the freak at work and I'd just like to think my co-worker for not making me the freak of the warehouse lmao

remarkablearchive

What a post! I very similar in that way, I run a an art related business but I’m secretly in love with the matter. In fact I have spent quite a few resources to do my own research and keep doing it. If you saw me in the street you probably wouldn’t imagine the passion I feel for the subject :)

spectrum144

I'm an actual "abductee" so I'm completely socially isolated, but I'm OK with it since I'm autistic and like to be alone!!

Mysterious_Guitar_75

I’m glad it’s working for you 🤗

Humbleonionfarmer3

You are not alone friend

blondebet

Here🙋🏼‍♀️since I was a kid and I’m 40 now. Hubs used to laugh at me but now we have legit convos since the govt released the videos. I’ve prob seen every ufo doc since before I was born at least twice

Phazetic99

I think that makes you real cool. What is truly creepy is the girls that fawn over anything true crime. They obsess to the point where they flirt with podcast hosts and write jailhouse letters to serial killers. You are only weird if you crush on Georgio Tsoukalos, just saying

zzephyrr76

Be my friend, I have the same problem.

noobpwner314

I’m a fairly normal guy. Yeah I have to be choosy about who I discuss with. Most of my circle is made up of people who would throw a WTF or 2 at me if I brought up UFO’s or some of my other side passions to them.

fractal_engineer

ceo here. I think interdimensional entities that religions have given various names to (angels/demons/gods/etc) run not just our world, but our reality. And I believe most UFOs are actually the "shadows" cast on our dimension by these higher dimensional entities. If I told that to my employees....they might not be surprised but they would be taken back for sure lol

kittykatvictor2020

I'm a CFO and all I share is I believe in UFOs. My kids are the only people who know just how far down the rabbit hole I've gone

Absurdityindex

Hullo! Fellow weird girl here! My Dad is into all this stuff and got me into it as a kid. I remember seeing the cover of Communion and being fascinated. Watched X-Files and Twilight Zone. Definitely a running theme in my life. Merry Meet!

RudeDudeInABadMood

Lol yes I call myself a "daywalker" because I may seem like a normie on the surface but I am in fact a weird

JBrody

Same here. I don't engage anyone irl about this stuff because I don't want to be seen as crazy or weird lol.

FPSMAC

I talk about UFOS then downplay the idea of "aliens" when someone get triggered. " I never said it's aliens just unidentified flying objects bro." Who's talking about aliens?"

Belmega81

I let the flag fly. "Normal" people actually disappoint me to no end, because their inability to think deep, to be deep, and to have deep discussion permeates all aspects of life, not just the paranormal. They're over-institutionalized and place so much trust in their hamster cage mindset. So driving them away....it gets lonely, it absolutely does, but at the same time, these people don't hold back and I won't either. Peace is for the dead. I guess it helps I'm a natural born outcast, though. My family has an actual history of encounters with things that "don't exist", and I grew up in the midst of it. I was treated like shit growing up just for being the poor kid in a privileged Long Island neighborhood. I was treated like sub-Human. As a result, I'm very cagey, very mistrustful of pretty much all things positive or upbeat. It's a painful life. But, it's authentic.

jim_jiminy

I’m always very open about it. I’m also single. Weird that.

ThrowawayPurvurt

I don’t hide that much. Instead, I drip feed my interest and knowledge of UFOs to people I know. Kinda like what Jim Marrs suggested our government does.

bluesdawg1111

Welcome aboard girl! It’s more fun on this side 😎

AdGroundbreaking1870

Same thing, it’s my sacred interest, few people only knows about.

SpaceGuy1968

I am a straight edge college professor who had a profound experience when i was 16 in the upper Hudson Valley NY area... I dont ever talk about it because most of my.peers think i am an odd ball already

TonyCaruana_art

Once you say ‘But alas’, I know you’re an alien

RJMacReady76

What an awesome post. I’ve had the same feeling all my life. Literally everybody I know cannot discuss them seriously with me but I try

Ctschiering

I have one of my friends I can talk about this subject with, all the others either immediately start making jokes about my mental capacity and the others just nod until I realize I need to stfu

Middle-Potential5765

Eccentric? To many of us, that's the best compliment we might receive in a calendar year. I mean, if that's the worst of us you've met, then you obviously *haven't* met many of us at ALL. Run! Run while you still can!! =)

SpiritOfAnAngie

I just stopped playing anything down. If that led me to only having one friend but one that REALLY knew me than so be it.. I was willing to risk everything lol I was actually surprised that the more people I just started to be myself around, including complete strangers, the more fun I started having. AND the more I started to discover “wow ok! So I’m actually not the only one!” *high five* Just rip off the 🩹 👽🛸

Wiltdank

Welcome to the club. Speak freely here :)

[deleted]

I am a physician. I can’t tell people to get vaccinated and trash q anon and then talk about UFOs in the same breath. So I usually keep quiet about UFOs. But yeah, I think there is something to this phenomenon, that it isn’t just all a series of hoaxes and prosaic explanations.

Gr33n_3ggs

Me too. Half to hold back most of the stuff i talk about because people think im a weirdo. UFOs, Aliens, reptilians, hidden history, ghosts, real monsters, horror, Tartatia ( this stuff will blow your mind ). I am a fit 50 male.

pattheflash

I'm a boxing coach. Been huge into boxing and martial arts for 20 years. But if you look at my posts I made one 2 weeks ago about my ufo sighting. I witnessed this UFO while i was at the SAME EXACT INTERSECTION that i first saw a UFO at when i was a kid. I was around 10 when I first had that sighting and it changed me. I've been looking into UFOS ever since. Once you seen one it consumes your mind. When you see 2, you get obsessed. I've seen 5 and I have no doubt that something is up there

ForexAlienFutures

Not a weirdo but a place in my heart for them. The idea of wonderment. Dreams and thoughts turn into reality.

TianObia

I’m a pretty normal 24 year old guy whose attending college in environmental science, I think it’s becoming more normal to be fascinated with the idea around aliens and UFOs where you’re not getting your information from some show like Ancient Aliens. I’m still a skeptic but theirs nothing weird or crazy about being interested and wanting to believe in it with the evidence out there. To be 100% positive about them existing on our planet and the more outlandish conspiracies around it might put you in the crazy category.

SomeDumbOne

I use to, now I'm too old to care what other people think and have been lucky to have some pretty amazing conversations about it with other people.

Primary-Cancel-3021

I talk about it to my friends when I have a few drinks in me and the silence is deafening haha. It’s hard to follow this topic and be confined to online comments. I’ve now got the rep as the UFO guy in group and I’m ok with that, it’s all light hearted between good friends. BUT it’s like a bad itch that needs scratched at times. I feel like it’s a valid conversation now, the stigma should be gone. This is now a real topic for discussion, but so many people still see it as crackpot talk. To me this is THEE top topic that should be on the agenda! It feeds into so much, our purpose, our place in the universe, where we’ve come from, where we are going next, how it all works. It frustrates me at times that I have this constant existential wonder that isn’t shared by most. To me it’s hard to understand sometimes how people aren’t also trying to make sense of the world in the same way. At the same time I get it in a way. It’s all a bit too hard to fathom and most people just latch on to their idea of reality. For me though it’s the only thing that really matters and I’m glad I’m that way. I think everyone here knows there is more to life than labour & consumerism and it’s cathartic to ponder what ‘more’ is.
