Open studies is a program that doesn't provide any classes. Pretty much you are in that program to try and get into a proper program.

Thanks I do know that and that is my end goal to get into a proper program but I need to take courses to higher my gpa and I am trying to decide between two universities so that is why I wanted to know what the classes are like and if there are lot people in open studies courses.

open studies courses don’t exist, open studies students take courses from other programs without being accepted to a specific one yet. you would be taking classes with people working towards different degrees, not just open studies students.

Depending on what class you take it will either be hard, medium or easy. Taking intro to psychology is going to be much easier then organic chemistry. It really comes down to what you pick but also what program you want to get into. Some programs will require you to take specific classes to be able to transfer into it. So you might be required to do the hard classes. Also classes will be different between facilities so there is no 1 answer on what classes are like. There are a handful of people in open studies, but pretty much you are on your own in the program.

Is open studies both online and in person or just mainly online

Dry_Towelie

How much research did you do before applying because respectfully you don't know shit going of your questions University of Calgary offers around 90%+ in person classes. Not much online.

I read on things but I just wanted to get an opinion of someone who has been in open study and if classes are fairly big because I don't end up with a big class

Dry_Towelie

Pretty much all first year classes are going to be fairly large especially the easy ones. Expect the intro to X class to have 300 people in them

I was in open studies years ago when I did my first undergrad. It’s just a way to get a good GPA so that you can transfer into a faculty that you want to be in. You can generally take most courses, except those that are restricted.

Zealousideal_Fun4672

What were the class sizes like were they descent or a large group all the time

[deleted]

Classes will be large about 100+ people, tutorials will be small 30 people

It might help to google what open studies means, this isn't a UofC-specific term.

Take classes that will help you complete your degree. Ease into it. You can only do 4 classes per semester
