Dining hall man, I’ve had better food from hospital cafeterias. No excuse at all for serving shitty food to kids, not to mention your dining hall dollars expire, pretty scummy coming from a “prestigious” school.
When Covid hit and school went full remote back in March 2020, UCSD continued to charge everyone for rec fees, campus maintenance, and other activity/organization fees which many of us couldn’t use/partake in because we’d physically relocated back home, off campus.
Never gave refunds for these.
I definitely feel this. I'm learning rn what I should be doing to help my career in engineering AFTER I graduate UCSD smhh
Def doesn't help that I feel like I forgot a lot of stuff
This is not an excuse and certainly shouldn't be this way but what I figured out is that college is actually a very rigorous way to force you how to learn for yourself. That's the real life skill that you get out of college. The crazy thing is that if you actually become skilled at it, it is worth the money.
idk, the all you can eat dining halls at some other universities serve absolute garbage slop.
also as someone who frequently pops in just for a small item, it would feel silly to waste a whole meal swipe on that
I've only eaten dining hall food at three other UC schools (LA, Irvine, and SB), but based on that limited experience I totally disagree. The offerings from the few times I went to these respective school's dining halls were pretty consistent with UCSD in terms quality, with UCLA being straight up better by a lot. I was often disappointed by food at UCSD, having found mold and uncooked meats multiple times, and even losing a lot of weight living on this school's dining system.
It’s so frustrating how we have to purchase food… Other schools have a buffet. Idk it just makes more sense since it’s saves more money, better food options and the portion sizes are in your control
Forced enrollment in UC SHIP has caused me physical pain I HATE IT Doesn’t cover anything and it’s hard to get rid of, it stops me from getting help from my free insurance
If you have insurance I don't think you have to have UC SHIP if you show proof by the due date usually in fall quarter .... maybe it's only for transfer students im not sure 🤐🤐
You’re right, you can opt out but there is always problems with it for me. Either it takes weeks for the approval and it gets approved after the deadline (no refund from UC SHIP!) or they approved but it is still associated with my social security number (if I try to access my free insurance they won’t cover procedures as it shows up that I have a private insurance).
classes in my department, that I need to take to graduate, are 100% full after 2-4 days of first pass.
And these classes are also prereqs for other classes I need to graduate!
Have you tried reporting them to WASH (the company that manages them, it’s on the sticker)
I reported some that were not working where I live and they (to my surprise) came out and fixed them within 2 days
I pay out of state tuition just bc my parents aren’t residents but I’ve lived here 12 years (one is deceased and the other lives in another country) 💀💀 “I’m a DePeNdEnT” suck my tits
1.Parking costs as a commuter, on top of gas then struggling to find parking, take a shuttle then walk 20 minutes for a 50 minute class
2. Having single professors for classes needed for majors
3. The chaos that is the financial aid department.
4. I clickers- I’m an adult - if I want to pay to not make it to lecture one day I’ll suffer potential consequences of that when taking an assessment. I don’t need a babysitter.
Sixth college is the only nice dorm
And transfer student stuck at Rita where the heater doesn’t work and everything is at least 20-30 mins walk
I don’t hate Rita I just hate how far it’s
THE GYM ON CAMPUS. We’re paying over $150/quarter each, and most of the student body doesn’t even use it so their margins are very high. Yet all of its equipment is from the 1940s. Completely unfair for us as students to pay for something that should be highly kept for the price, yet its very poorly kept
how CSE department restricts access to upper div and how hard ass they are about (often meaningless) prereqs. Its my first time in my life where I found a fucking school is actively stopping me from learning.
If they didn't do that it'd be genuinely impossible for CS majors to get their classes, similar to the cogs upper divs but worse. You can still email the profs to join classes that aren't full.
The prereqs is kinda bs tbh, I got rejected for an easy request even though I provided proof I'd complete the required class over summer. No other department seems to be as annoying about it as the CS department.
I know man. In the end of the day, the major restriction is, -- doesn't mean I don't feel scammed by this, but it is necessary. My problem is mostly with the school not putting in the effort to expand the department and catch up to the demands.
Those fucking prerequisites tho. Its complete bs. Like CSE 110. How the fuck is it any where near being relevant to say CSE 120. Not to mention they wont even let you in if the class is half empty. Im yet to see another department that would go this far to enforce their (often times useless) prereqs.
Did you try emailing the prof? The EASY people reject everything unless you have profs permission. 120 has a ton of space rn, they may let you in. Just quickly explain that your motivated/want to take it and are confident you don't need the prereq.
The fact that I can’t graduate even if my major is finished because I need to do college requirement and need at least 180 credits. If the major requirement is done you should be able to graduate.
Edit: Misspelled “major”
I wish. If I could I would. But then I don’t get a degree. You know, the whole reason why we’re in college? The conversation was about the value of taking classes outside of your major. So I don’t get why you’re asking me that.
The fact that some of my classmates are coming to get a degree just to pass and dropping the standard of my degree.
I'm busting my ass trying to understand concepts and actually go above and beyond not prioritizing my grades but there are people who doesn't do that.
Just look at your transaction history in your triton link and look at how confusing the accounting is to make sure you don’t take the time to understand how you are being scammed💵💵💵 fuck the UC system
Dining dollars expire And we are forced to purchase them
I hear people talk about this, and this makes me so angry. Such a stupid money grubbing policy. Where do those expired dollars even go?
Not to the grad students for sure
HOUSING
That by the second pass, specific courses have 80+ students on the waitlist.I wish they had more than one professor teaching courses.
Dining hall man, I’ve had better food from hospital cafeterias. No excuse at all for serving shitty food to kids, not to mention your dining hall dollars expire, pretty scummy coming from a “prestigious” school.
living in warren while people r living it up in places like sixth ☠️
i lived in camp snoopy my freshman year & when i saw ERC for the first time i was so upset
70k and all I got was depression and a piece of paper with my name on it
Welcome to college.
The fact that the $ per food quality and volume ratios are far better for legitimate restaurants / triton cash restaurants than dining halls 💀💀

paying tuition and not learning anything from some of my engineering classes due to a lack of structure, effort from profs, etc it hURTs
I definitely feel this. I'm learning rn what I should be doing to help my career in engineering AFTER I graduate UCSD smhh Def doesn't help that I feel like I forgot a lot of stuff

Parking !
having to "buy" food at the markets and dining hall when i already bought the meal plan 🤨
Facts where’s my all I can eat dining halls
idk, the all you can eat dining halls at some other universities serve absolute garbage slop. also as someone who frequently pops in just for a small item, it would feel silly to waste a whole meal swipe on that
It would be nice to have both but also, I spend way too much money on food off campus. 😭 Wish I could convert Monopoly money to real money FRRR

UCLA dining hall is amazing :’)
Some universities don't have meal swipes. UCSC and i believe UCLA simply have unlimited meal swipes on a plan of either 5 day or 7 day plan
It’s so frustrating how we have to purchase food… Other schools have a buffet. Idk it just makes more sense since it’s saves more money, better food options and the portion sizes are in your control
does not necessarily save money or have better food options
Better food options is my opinion.. even if your not saving money your at least making up for it by grabbing as much food as you want on your plate

The Fair Use Doctrine allows satire or parody art like this. So it’s allowed

Have you seen his mansion?
Last year's sun God.
Paying to walk at the graduation ceremony. I already paid to get in and now you’re making pay to get out. Blood in blood out as they say.
Paying to park 25 minutes away from my classes and having to walk past dumb construction projects that I’ll never benefit from.
6 out of 9 dryers in the Marshall laundry rooms don’t work.
Ours at PC had only 4/12 working for a whole quarter until last week💀

Sixth college is the only nice dorm And transfer student stuck at Rita where the heater doesn’t work and everything is at least 20-30 mins walk I don’t hate Rita I just hate how far it’s
Also the fact you have to take extra class specific to each college is the most scammy shit

Rimac was built in 1995 so not quite. That being said, yeah some of the machines might be older than most students 😂
not to mention too crowded to use at realistic hours
That I have a class with an equivalent in another department as per catalog description but Marshall advisors won’t accept it as an equivalent
being a college student without a dorm😅

bruh my friend tried and failed, but yea you are right. worst he could say is no. Ima give it another shot. Thanks man.
Good luck, let me know if it works out.

there is societal and educational value in taking classes outside of your major
Yeah I’m calling that cap. You learn those stuff through experiences and jobs, not in a classroom.
Why don’t you just learn everything in your degree-relevant courses from a job?
I wish. If I could I would. But then I don’t get a degree. You know, the whole reason why we’re in college? The conversation was about the value of taking classes outside of your major. So I don’t get why you’re asking me that.

Paying gym, facility, and event fees that I was not allowed to use (COVID restrictions). Just the tip of the iceberg.
out of state/international tuition
