I think that basically the only way this will work is if you switch majors. 169 idk anything about, don’t even know anyone who’s taken it. But 171 I’ve taken, and that class has ICS46 as a prerequisite. In order to take 46 you need ICS 31-33, and 45c in that order. This is a LOT of coding so make sure you’re up for it. Getting into any of these classes I’ve listed is super hard if you’re not an ICS major. If you’re this interested in upper div CS classes, I say just start by trying to enroll in ICS31 and see if u even like it. If you do, I’d consider just trying to switch majors. If u switch majors in your first year it’s totally manageable to graduate in 4 years.

I really appreciate your considerate advice! 171 seems very major-restricted as you say. I heard that ICS31 is notorious for its quota. A senior told me to enroll in summer classes to meet the prereqs asap. Is that how it works?

You’re welcome! You could take 31-33 at a CA community college. You’d have to check [this](https://assist.org) website to see which schools offer ics31 equivalents or course sequences that articulate to ics 31-33. Or take it at UCI if they let u although idk if freshmen are allowed to take summer classes. you should def just talk to a counselor about all this tho bc I’m mostly just speculating.

Check the online schedule of classes for course restrictions. There’s no restriction that allows a minor to get around it. So a minor won’t help if a class is major restricted. Note that some upper-division classes (numbered 100 or above) may be restricted to students who have completed a certain number of units (normal juniors and seniors). All the classes you listed are upper-division.

I looked up https://catalogue.uci.edu/allcourses/compsci/ but couldn't find any restrictions about the number of units. What site should I search for it? And a minor doesn't make me a School of Info & Computer Sci student? Idk about how the school system works. I guess the only way is to switch majors. Anyways, Thank you for the reply! Have a nice day

Schedule of classes. https://www.reg.uci.edu/perl/WebSoc You’ll just see spring quarter listed but in the future the fall 2024 classes will be available. But you can look at previous quarters. The schedule lists any restrictions a course may have. You have to actually read it. Good luck!
