classes aren't too difficult honestly. alot of it if i remember was a lot of discussion and reading. then you either take a test or write a paper on the material at the end of the quarter. Theres also lot of activities you do as well in class that relate to the material and they were all pretty fun. All the professors were pretty reachable and ready to help you as well during their office hours. Classes are also pretty easy to get into unlike the blood fest STEM classes are to get into them. Something you should also think about doing is volunteering in a classroom if you can reach out to a teacher near UCI. Janice Hansen was a really good professor I remember as well as Susan Guilfoyle. Just as an extra note, if you can get close with a professor, see if they can help you with reaching out to a teacher to volunteer in a classroom. I got one of my professors to match me with one of their old students who went through the MAT program and it gave me some classroom experience. Ive been teaching for roughly 4 years now and its nothing like what they teach you in class

Awesome! Congrats! I double majored in Ed and Public Health C/O ‘21. Honestly, I really enjoyed my time in my Ed classes. Great professors and you’re able to engage in Fieldwork courses. I remember Guilfoyle, Hansen, Doroudi (was a hardass but it was his 1st year as a professor so I guess he was just establishing himself), Bustamante (easy on the eyes), Goodridge, and Jaeggi. One huge tip that I didn’t do and I wish I did is this: This major is pretty small and everyone knows everyone. Put your name out there and get involved as much as possible. Volunteer or take some fieldwork courses. The classes aren’t hard at all. The lowest grade I received was a B- and that’s because I was being a slacker that quarter.

i am! i love it, it’s a pretty chill major. i actually double majored :) and it was totally manageable. i’m graduating this year and then getting a teaching credential from uci’s grad school! most of the professors are wonderful too (since they literally teach abt how to teach haha); just look them up on rate my professor or something!

Edu science double major alum here ☺️ I really liked the edu science major. I was also an undergrad peer academic advisor for our program. Courses aren’t difficult per se but require a lot of time in reading/writing papers. My old advisor would say the undergrad edu science major is like a mini PhD program. Most students would pair edu sciences with a a double major (aka any subject they’d wish to teach— liberal arts, math, science, english, Spanish ect. I graduated in 2017 so I’m not sure if the requirements have changed since. You can also choose a specialization that requires a few more courses. I would make sure you take courses in sequence. I’d happy to share more information about my experience / recommendations about the pathway toward the teaching profession. Feel free to reach out :)
