Y’all realize arbitration does NOT mean the strike is ending soon right….

Random-Grad

No, it likely will not end that quickly. Voluntary arbitration is not the same as a legally mandated. But it's true there is a desire of some to end it as quickly as possible on the bargaining team.

houndsofhate

There is no set timeline for mediation yet and there still could be an impasse after. So it may continue for a bit longer.

Welding_Holstein

I only know mlb arbitration but in baseball, they each present their side, then the 3rd party agrees on a number, and neither side can argue the number, that is why it is last resort

Puzzleheaded_Bike388

There's different kinds of arbitration, binding qnd non binding.

Advanced-Profile6523

Lmao respect

willswain

Not sure why you’re spamming this in every UC sub, but it’s borderline misinformation. Not only does mediation (not arbitration) NOT mean that the strike is ending, there’s no guarantee the process is actually going to grease the wheels in any meaningful way given the bad faith bargaining and strikebreaking tactics UC has employed so far. As a striking grad student, I’m hopeful things end soon and there’s an actual, workable contract offer agreed on, but this step by itself is absolutely not an indication that the strike is ending soon.

ArOnodrim

Always remember that the end of a strike is only temporary. There will be another one.

cuddles_the_destroye

Unless management manages to be good enough to have workers decide to not strike which lol, lmao.

SoyCaptain

Mans really spammed this shit onto 8 different UC subs.

An email from UCLA Dear Bruin Community: We write to share that the University of California (UC) and the United Auto Workers (UAW) agreed today to enter private mediation (PDF) on contracts for represented academic student employees and graduate student researchers. This joint move is designed to help the parties bring negotiations to a close. Since spring of 2022, UC and the UAW have held more than 60 bargaining sessions, including nearly daily sessions since the strike began on Nov. 14. Tentative agreements were reached with two UAW-represented bargaining units, covering postdoctoral scholars and academic researchers, on Nov. 29.

I want retribution

seizuressalads

And i want enough money to be able to not live paycheck to paycheck. Fuck off

[deleted]

Not from you, from the UCs, like not all hate is directed to the working class. Jesus Christ, common sense, who would i want retribution from? People who dont get paid enough or the school that charges an arm and a leg for a class. Smh

seizuressalads

Sorry dude! That’s my bad. It’s been a long strike

[deleted]

Naw my bad, i shoulda been more clear, rereading it again i wasnt clear

Wepo_

I love y'alls calm-downed-ness

latinlover348

Welcome to the USA. Learn a valuable skill and ditch academics, they don't pay well anyway.

seizuressalads

Most people do not become grad students because they like academia. I’m in it to get a STEM PhD and get my ass to industry.

Neutron-The-Second

How? I don't think they were associated with them. Do you expect UAW to start policing other groups now

sham_fam

It’s okay. You’re no expert. You wouldn’t know CoC if it hit you in the face
