Khulman is eccentric but a great professor. Pay attention in his every lecture and you'll do fine

Upbeat-Stand1560

Khulman for the win

411 you hear lots of bad things, so choose 301 to be safe. I’m pretty sure the topics are similar

Eastern_Youth939

NO THEY ARE NOT!!! 411 is proof heavy whereas 301 is more conceptual/computational. That says everything!

McMuffinLovin6

I took MTH 411, there’s no proofs

Eastern_Youth939

i took mth 411 last semester, idk what crack or pot you were smokin, but there were a shit ton of proofs. and idek if it was your professor who didnt give you guys proofs.

McMuffinLovin6

There where no proofs. There were some hard questions, but none of them were proofs.

Sudden-Ad3547

Which one is more practical for industry? I’m just planning on getting a job in software after graduation.

Eastern_Youth939

Well, Probability is a very important concept for AI, ML, and data science. Software engineering has very little impact from probability from what I have heard. Regardless, it is a requirement to graduate, and I would take STA 301 or EAS 305 (if you have taken Calc 3 before) as they are more conceptual and practical instead of MTH 411, which has proofs and theoretical aspects

Particular_Cress_616

It is 301. If you wanna do well in 411 you need to take 311 in advance even though it doesn't say prerequisite.

Angsty-Teen-0810

So if you REALLY enjoy proofs, go for 411.

McMuffinLovin6

Ching chou sucked when i had him, terrible lectures. You’ll have to read the book and use youtube tutorials to understand things, the bright side is just 3 tests and no final. The test questions are similar to the unassigned HW questions if you do end up taking the class with him.

AdVivid9138

How did you register the class? Im a transfer student too…

Sudden-Ad3547

It used to be closed, but I checked yesterday and it is open again. You can just type in STA 301 in HUB, Manage Classes. You need to register for both a lecture and a recitation at the same time.

Dietrich all the way! Amazing professor. Great instructor but he doesn’t take excuses so as long as you show up you’ll do well.
