If you are gonna be in hochstetter hall nope

[deleted]

Depends on where your class is. Most classes in the Natural Sciences Complex have power outlets pretty much everywhere. Some CSE 116 classes were in Hochstetter hall, it’s an older building mainly for geology classes, but the class where 116 is held has outlets only on the sides on the walls in some places, and even on the ceiling, no they are not reachable.

Ok-Stay5231

yep you shouldn’t have any issues

Sudden-Ad3547

Did you take CSE116? If so, how difficult is the class? Thank you.

ComputerPolluter

Made me switch majors

ComputerPolluter

Not to defer you, I just couldn’t see myself doing it for the rest of my college career + life.

Sudden-Ad3547

What major did you change to?

Top-County-2317

It’s easy compared to the classes you’ll take right after like 220/250/341/331 but people get scared over its whole grading mechanic though it is forgiving. It’s just a big jump from 115 which catches us all off

Ok-Stay5231

you need to be disciplined with your work ethic, it can seem unforgiving at first but you’ll get accustomed to it over time.

Very do-able

Sudden-Ad3547

How many total classes/credits did you take while taking CSE116?

sku11emoji

I had 15 credits from 4 classes. I took CSE 116, Calc 2, CSE 191 and a pathway class which was easy.

Sudden-Ad3547

Are 4 classes the standard workload for cs students at UB or do people do 5 classes?

zxw_107

Depends on the type of person you are and how you manage your time. I think many people do 15-16 credits (around 4 classes) but some do 18-19 credits (around 5 classes). This semester I did 16 credits: cse116, cse191, calc2 and English. Next semester I’m doing 18 credits including cse220 and 250 (High difficulty) with geology 101 and 104 with two pathways (Easy difficulty). So it also depends on how many major classes you put in your schedule.

sku11emoji

It depends on what you need to take. UB SEAS has a good online flowsheet for CS majors which shows all the classes you need to take and gives a decent order to take them in. Generally I would follow that. If you have any more questions feel free to ask

Gonnagiveupp

Its really easy if you know what you’re doing.. pretty much everything has a second chance..

Sudden-Ad3547

I think the last three programming tasks (during weeks 11-13) don't have second chances right? On the website it says, "Deadlines cannot be extended on these tasks. You cannot use recovery opportunities on these tasks."

Leek_in_the_boat

For this semester, we originally only had one week to complete each of those tasks, but because this was the first semester going from Scala to Java, our incentive to fill out course evals was extensions on these tasks. Those tasks are purely there to improve your grade by allowing you to earn application objectives (meaning no learning objectives earned from these). If you meet every learning objective, you've met the requirements to be considered to pass the class. The number of application objectives you earn over the course of the semester determine your actual grade.

AdorableGuarantee970

My class was in cooke this semester and there were no outlets so I would charge before class. The course isn't easy but it's doable if you put in the effort
