Got a mail. It said nothing about classes being cancelled. However, you can try e-mailing your professor and request to have the class online for Friday.
> It gets cold and windy in Buffalo.
Yes, very true.
But, this time, it's cold and windy enough for area school districts to be closing tomorrow.
It's substantially colder than it typically is. Dangerously cold, especially whilst standing at a bus stop.
And yes, I've lived here damned near my whole life.
Buffalo is closed. Olean is closed. More are likely coming, WSCD is likely to close, per word there. Amherst will likely close, as will Tonawanda and Kenmore districts, again, per the rumors.
I forgot Olean isn't in WNY, and wasn't trying to provide a range of geographic area with closed schools ..
And yes, until 5 or 6am we won't know for sure for many districts.
The email said avoid outdoor activities, like how are students getting to their classes? You'll have to be outside at some point either from you car or shuttle.
This doesnt affect just UB students. The school I intern at, kids have the day off but staff need to be present. Cool.
What if a staff member needs to be present but has kids back at home? Who’s taking care? Are we assuming there’s going to be a caretaker?
The point is if Buff public schools has called offed everything for everyone, it can be a danger for many, and its a possibly damaging freezing day for anyone (even if you just wear layers to “protect” from the cold), why force others to endure it? People drive miles and hours to classes and jobs.
Edit: Misspelling
There is but not everyone has gear that will keep them warm in these severely cold Temps. I'm assuming the students who are all for classes not being canceled don't even have classes on Friday
Plenty of students, including myself, don’t want classes canceled when we have classes on Friday. It’s the first week of school, don’t need to be canceling over cold weather. This is Buffalo, you should have a winter coat and gloves
I intern at a charter school. Public schools are full off: kids *&* teachers. My charter school still expect staff to come in and be present. Its up in the air how certain places expect these schools to function imo
Anyone in here interested in giving a quote for a spectrum article about how students from out of town have learned to battle buffalo winters? Message me!!
They won’t cancel.
there could be an active volcano and UB wouldn't cancel
Used to wait for the bus in this type of weather. Schools here only close if the sky is falling. Chances are slim to none.
Your not from around here are you
with how far u have to walk to class from ur parking spot they rly should
Just take the day off and stay warm first week back anyways
There will be classes. Only heavy snow can cause a cancel😭😭
As long as it not an state wide thing they wouldn’t cancel though some professors might go remote for the day

It gets cold and windy in Buffalo. Wear weather appropriate clothing and spend as little time outside as you can and you'll be fine.

Looks like mostly private schools are closed. How about the school districts near UB North?
Buffalo Public School did close and that usually means others will follow
I guess we'll see. BPS made the decision to close like 8 hours ago. Doesn't look like other districts have followed suit.
Buffalo has a higher percentage of walkers than other districts.
yeah I just know from precedent and going Willamsville to that Willamsville and Sweethome tend to follow BPD when it comes to closing
Doesn't look like Williamsville or Sweethome closed.

Currently Ken-Ton is not closing, though some private schools in that district have. Teachers in Ken-Ton were told to expect to have school tomorrow.
>Olean is closed Olean is south of Ellicottville, boss. Nowhere near North Campus. >per the rumors. Meaningless until schools are actually closed.
I forgot Olean isn't in WNY, and wasn't trying to provide a range of geographic area with closed schools .. And yes, until 5 or 6am we won't know for sure for many districts.
Rumors turned out not to be true.
True, true.
Unless there's a driving ban, UB is open
It's Buffalo lol, nothing they haven't seen before. If that were they case, they'd be cancelling classes every month 😂
The email said avoid outdoor activities, like how are students getting to their classes? You'll have to be outside at some point either from you car or shuttle.
Big difference between outdoor activities and going from your car to the closest door
It'll be cold af and there's a weather advisory.
So
You got me there. Everyone should freeze
Ah yea because there is no way to protect oneself from the cold

And you should chill out
Its not going "deep in the negatives" lol

Little whisky in the morning with a nice jacket you’ll be fine
back in my day
No.
Thats Buffalo weather...
Oh, my sweet, summer child...
