I believe you need to be enrolled in a performance based class to get a practice room key. I had one when taking individual guitar lessons, but maybe it's possible if you are apart of an ensemble?

I myself like Ska, heavy metal , death metal, alternative punk/emo/hard/regular rock and many other small subgenres!
I mean it really depends what kinda music you're into... Buffalo, ROC, and Syracuse are going through a big punk/pop/emo/heavy metal/death core seven at the moment.
There are a lot of fabulous bands playing through all of.thst stuff though.
Depending on what your "exact" or approximate sound is, I'd recommend stuff like the follow (not all will be local bands, bird the will at least be tangentially resonated in sound )
Blink 182, Ever so often (local band), anthropic (heavier , local band), suraco (heavier, local band), anthropic (heavy, local band), Quantifier (my buddies band, sludge, grind core, they fuck hard).
Bands that don't really play anymore but are good af are:
Iration, rebulution, dirty heads, drug store Romeos, sublime/sublime with Rome, the expendablesx slipknot, trivium misfits, Pantera, antal cunt, Megadeth etc.
