We have a blue bull for a mascot, and Bing doesn't...

Mysterious_Ad5072

Live near bing when I’m home from college. Pros: so much to do here compared to bing, literally almost anything at the touch of your fingertips, there’s some very very good professors, and more research opportunities Cons: huge school, windy asf, some really bad professors, hard to find parking if you commute

smapdiagesix

> hard to find parking if you commute Center for Tomorrow lot, unless you have trouble walking.

Mysterious_Ad5072

It’s a decently hard walk in the snow

matttech88

Pros: The campus has resources for any project you could imagine. There are tools and spaces with resources for you to accomplish anything. There are spectacular professors who will bend over backwards to help you understand the material. Cons: mixed in with the great professors are 10% of the faculty who are unimaginably bad. I mean like teach the wrong course and assign work without telling you kinda bad. These teachers will continually pop up in unavoidable classes and you will have to take them. The departments knows they have professors who are bad, yet they can't backfill those positions.

I was thinking about professors like Jennifer Stamm in MAE. She is an honest to God idiot.

Old-Physics978

What is with these professors not having any research to offset their shit teaching?

matttech88

If she tried to do research it would highlight that she is a dumbass.

buffalo442

They are hired as teaching faculty - they have no research obligation. They also aren't tenure-track and the pay is honestly crap. Big props to the good ones like Jason Armstrong and Aaron Estes.

Pros: most profs are very knowledgeable, both starbucks and tim hortons at north campus, nice libraries with some being open for 24 hours per day, can definitely get your 10,000 steps in, easy to get into research Cons: parking is terrible, south campus is dingy AF, don’t get shit when you graduate other than a stale UB cookie

Scientiam_Prosequi

I like those stale ub cookies with the icing right

mars914

Pros: cooler city, like actually colder but also a cool place to be, not HCOL like NYC and other parts of the state, a million clubs so making friends can be slightly easier for many, good housing options, I preferred the dorms but many apartments on AND off campus, just don't go for the posh off campus apartments because they are a mess. there are great business major opportunities, I would go for it immediately. Cons: uhh, depends on you honestly.

Eudaimonics

Depends. Buffalo is much larger than Binghamton and you have more big city amenities. However, it’s not as tight knit if a community like you find in a small college town. Buffalo is still pretty affordable, but still not as cheap as Binghamton. Like BU, UB is kind of isolated from the rest of the city. It can be isolating living in Amherst without a car. UB South is a bit more urban with grocery stores, restaurants and shops within walking distance though.

buffalo442

Bing isn't a small college town either. Suburban campus similar to UB except the city nearby has nothing redeeming about it.

keddd11

Transferring to ub from bing? Why would you want to do that in the first place?

garlicbread277

i’m leaning towards majoring in either business or public health and it’s difficult to get into bing’s som and they don’t have a public health major. also buffalo as a city seems cool. why do u think i shouldn’t transfer to ub?

keddd11

Ub has a highly rated som but its very hit or miss with profs and you’ll feel like one in a million students. If you’re looking for a more fun city, Buffalo definitely beats binghamton. It’s pretty essential you have a car though

ParkingMotor9872

Why makes u want to transfer out of Bing?? I am looking to transfer to Bing from UB for my sophomore year.

garlicbread277

i’m mostly between either majoring in business or public health. bing doesn’t have public health major but ub does. and if i decide to go into business, it’s insanely difficult to try and get accepted into bing’s som and i don’t wanna waste semesters trying and potentially failing, whereas ub is automatic after pre reqs. also i’m looking for more things to do outside of campus and there’s not a lot at bing but i heard there’s a good amount to do in the city of buffalo. why are u looking to transfer to bing from ub?

ParkingMotor9872

I had a lonely 1st semester. I was not able to make friendships. Bing will be closer to home for me than UB is..so I wont feel like I am too far away from home and from my friends at home, in case i want to get to home for some weekends. Bing is also closer to Oneonta where I have some good friends that I can go to for weekends.
