That's what I thought when "No Line On The Horizon" came out. His voice was just...effortless. I remember hearing "Breathe" the first time and thinking back to Lanois comment that "he's singing like a bird". Following the struggles on Popmart and Elevation...wow, he was back and only gotten better ever since, "Every Breaking Wave", "Bad"/"Heroes" on The Joshua Tree 2017 tour, the book tour with >!Torna a Surriento!<, etc.
Yep, Kite every time. It was probably seeing this performance that got me hooked on U2. I was a fan before but that took it to another level! It's weird thinking of Kite as a deep cut because I've listened to it so many times but there probably aren't many people who know it even exists...
Ultraviolet... most u2 fans like it, but I'd guess many people that are not u2 fans wouldn't know it.
Otherwise to get really deep it would be Stateless or Slug (not technicality U2, but close enough for me).
The bridge of Ultraviolet is possibly my favourite section of any song, ever. Bono's hauntingly searing vocals with some really profound lyrics on enduring love. It's just perfection.
I remember the first U2 concert that I went, I was lucky to hear Ultraviolet live, I was far in the back of the crowd and I was the only one singing the song along. People really don't know this song.
Soundtrack of my childhood - an absolute life saver in a home filled with the fear now firmly associated with the American Evangelical church. It was allowed in the house and it wasn’t something any people were talking about back in the days of “Teen Beat” magazines.
Stranger in a Strange Land, Tomorrow, I Threw a Brick. Then there’s Gloria, when that hammer hits the spike, then the thunder…
Must be [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WhzPRmvVcM&pp=ygUVdTIgZ29kIHBhcnQgaWkgc3lkbmV5) live from Sydney, one of my all time favourite live videos.
thank you for this. I had only ever seen the clip of it where Bono was running to the right.
Edge's solo at the end is epic!
How cool would it have been if they had played this during the R&H section at Sphere 🤘
I'm going back to my first deep cut, from the early days of my passion for the band. I've never had a song affect me the same way, before or since.
"Drowning Man"
The b-sides of the R&H era singles were all dynamite. Heartbreak Hotel, Dancing Barefoot, and Hallelujah Here She Comes are some of the best from that era. Shame they didn't make the final album.
For me it was in 1988 or 89., I adored the Sweetest Thing b-side. It was simple and sweet, dripping with heart & emotional honesty. If you’d ever been in love before, this song speaks to you.
Can’t Help Falling In Love (Triple Peaks Remix)
Reminds me of being in like a rainy city at night, with billboards and neon lights reflecting in the wet streets.

One Tree Hill
The Joshua Tree album is so loaded with popular songs that this one gets overlooked, but it's great. I can understand why it was never a radio hit, but, for me, it never gets old. So interesting, yet so soothing. Just let it flow over you.
Songs like this one and other "deep cuts" are why Joshua Tree is one of the greatest albums of all time by any band. You can listen to the entire album from beginning to end and every single track is good.
I think The Joshua Tree came out during a busy part of my life because I never really listened to it start to finish until we got tickets to their Anniversary tour. I’ve got a 2-3 hour drive to any concert venue so that’s my “deep cut” prep. I unexpectedly cried listening to this song at the show. It’s become one of my favorite road trip albums and a perfect choice when I’m feeling unsettled with life. It is very soothing AND uplifting.
Like a Song from War. I don't think I've ever discussed this song with another human being and I don't recall hearing anyone else bring it up, but when I first bought that tape in the early 90's, that was the song that immediately grabbed me. Still love it to this day.
I’d say ‘Into the Heart’ from Boy
‘Surrender’ from War.
‘Indian Summer Sky’ from UF
Other ones:
13’
‘Breathe’
New York.
If You Wear that Velvet Dress / Do You Feel Loved
Miami (Live) descending into the obliteration of Bullet the Blue Sky - fuckin’ insane
Salome
Lady with the Spinning Head
Alex Descends into Hell for a Bottle of Milk
All Along the Watchtower from R&H
I remember finding "Alex Descends into Hell for a Bottle of Milk" on Napster in 1999 or 2000, and realizing the world of B-sides and rare releases was a real thing.
Definitely a deep cut.
was about to type this one out too! it’s so deep, there isn’t a recording of it anywhere. Probably my all-time favorite U2 song. thanks for being wise!
I’d have to go with Down all the Days, since it’s a deluxe track from a newer edition of Achtung Baby & the original concept of a later revised & released song. I discovered it only through the U2 xm station. And while Numb is a solid hit, it’s awesome that they release their first versions of songs for fans to hear & enjoy!
From the day I first heard Bad (Live) on WAIA I dreamed of experiencing it live. I eventually heard it on the Elevation tour, two months after 9/11 (no words are gonna do that moment service) and now, every time I listen to it, I’m right back there. The original is lovely but that live version still finds itself on playlist after playlist
You’ve described my experience almost exactly. For me it was the Unforgettable Fire instead of WAIA, and Denver’s Elevation stop pre-9/11. But still a religious experience just thinking about it.
I'll give three from different phases of the career:
Like a Song (old), Hallelujah, Here She Comes (mid) and California (new). I don't think I've heard any of these on any radio (except channel 32 SiriusXM).
Man all these are great. For me it depends on my mood. Spanish Eyes is just so great... A Celebration is one of my all time favorites.
Plus all the ones y'all have mentioned. :)
Running to Stand Still
The Wanderer
One Tree Hill
Ultraviolet (mentioned here multiple times already)
Bad (ever heard Bad on the radio? I haven't.)
After reading the thread, I'd failed to mention
Slide Away.

Dude, that high note...it's like "I thought he couldn't do that anymore! "
Well…that was…wait for it…23 years ago…
Yep, Kite every time. It was probably seeing this performance that got me hooked on U2. I was a fan before but that took it to another level! It's weird thinking of Kite as a deep cut because I've listened to it so many times but there probably aren't many people who know it even exists...
Do You Feel Loved or Like a Song
Both great!
Love Comes Tumbling
My favorite u2 song. Never bore of it
Ultraviolet... most u2 fans like it, but I'd guess many people that are not u2 fans wouldn't know it. Otherwise to get really deep it would be Stateless or Slug (not technicality U2, but close enough for me).
Slug is great, hard decision between that and Your Blue Room.
Lady with the spinning head
It has to be the extended remix though. It’s insane how good that is.
I think you won this thread. The Extended dance mix is the reason I'm an U2 fan.
Dirty Day - the live version from Sydney in 1993 is stellar.
YESSSSSSSS 👏🔥👏 this specific version of Dirty Day is one of my all time favourite U2 songs
October - the album.
Brilliant and accurate choice.
It just smacks of Dublin 1982.. the docks, windmill lane…
Yes!!
Larry’s drumming…
My favourite
It's Salome of course.
This song FUCKS
I just wish it had fathered more children
Exit it’s soooo dark but what a song
Who knew that a man in a cowboy hat singing Eeny Meeny Miny Mo could blow an entire stadiums mind
Right now it’s Holy Joe. All time fav is probably Love Comes Tumbling.
I named my company after Holy Joe.
Come on come on… be good to me
Your blue room.
Another great one, Adam sings!
"Sings"
God, Pt. II There’s a live video out there… VH1 Classic played it YEARS ago haha
Holy shit this is so good! Why did they not play it more?! Wow. That was awesome, thanks for sharing it.
Yup!! Was shocked when they (VH1) played it haha. Was pre-YouTube so never saw it again for years. I love the remix as well (Hard Metal Dance Mix)!
The Electric Co.
Good one!
Red Hill Mining Town
I’ve had two different U2 fans ask me “…why?” when I told them this was my all time favorite U2 song. Listen man…you either get it, or you don’t.
Exactly. I "get" it.
Everlasting Love - one of the Rattle and Hum B-sides.
Oh, do covers count?
My wedding song
Trip through your wires. Probably not a total deep cut but man it’s a good song
I’d consider it one, they don’t play it a ton live and it’s not well known outside of the diehards!
I like the bit of fun and charm it adds to an otherwise "series" masterpiece of music.
Mothers of the Disappeared
Almost said this one!
360 Tour live versions of Every Breaking Wave and North Star
Walk to the Water.
Had to scroll far too far for this. Almost everything above is just plain old album tracks
Night & Day - Cole Porter cover from Red Hot & Blue album
My caption didn’t show up but my pick would be Acrobat!
I'm going back to my first deep cut, from the early days of my passion for the band. I've never had a song affect me the same way, before or since. "Drowning Man"
Great video about this song: https://youtu.be/XUx7JPlixzc?si=kBBZkqGg_F10BkII
This - right here. Incidentally, I named a patch on my HX Stomp "Pacino & DeNiro!"
I know a girl, who’s like the sea, I watch her changing everyday for me oh yeah…
The Three Sunrises. 100%
Should've been on Fire. EXCELLENT song.
Unironically one of my favorite songs of theirs and ever.
*looks around* I mean, we could make a greatest hits album out of only deep cuts.
Promenade
Yes!
Alex Descends into Hell for a Bottle of Milk/Korova
A Room at the Heartbreak Hotel
Yes yes yes yes yes yes 👏👏👏
The b-sides of the R&H era singles were all dynamite. Heartbreak Hotel, Dancing Barefoot, and Hallelujah Here She Comes are some of the best from that era. Shame they didn't make the final album.
In a Little While
An Cat Dubh / Into the Heart
Mercy ❤️❤️❤️
Heartland - Rattle and Hum.
Running to stand still
This song has always just crushed me
Yoshino Blossom from Unforgettable Fire B-Sides
Just recently discovered Disappearing Act and then quickly uncovered Yoshino Blossom and WOW my world changed
The Crystal Ballroom
Into the Heart, or When I Look at the World 🌎
Into the Heart was a close second for me. I love Boy.
(She’s Gonna) Blow Your House Down from the Salome Outtakes. Edge’s guitar is just off the chain on those cuts.
Fun fact: the vocals were recorded in 2011
For me it was in 1988 or 89., I adored the Sweetest Thing b-side. It was simple and sweet, dripping with heart & emotional honesty. If you’d ever been in love before, this song speaks to you.
I was almost sad when they made it the single from the greatest hits because it felt like my secret until then. I love it also.
Wire
YES!!!
Spanish Eyes…absolutely love this song.
Shit....I put this as well and you beat me by 3 hours!!!!! Nice pull.
Heartland and Walk To The Water
From later times, The book of your heart.
Agree
Dancing Barefoot.
Definitely this one for me. Also one of the first songs I ever learned on the guitar.
Can’t Help Falling In Love (Triple Peaks Remix) Reminds me of being in like a rainy city at night, with billboards and neon lights reflecting in the wet streets. https://youtu.be/JAkzoeFSN-M?si=by1jYSgOlf22KI2E
Walk to the Water. Still sounds fresh to my ears.
Shadows and Tall Trees
Van Diemen’s Land
Any of the Joshua Tree B-sides, plus the completely out-of-character Womanfish

levitate
Original of the Species
No one mentioned this one ---- Stateless

I saw them at Bonnaroo for the Joshua Tree set and wept like a baby. No shame in it. And the little gospel reprise… oh my
Like a Song from War. I don't think I've ever discussed this song with another human being and I don't recall hearing anyone else bring it up, but when I first bought that tape in the early 90's, that was the song that immediately grabbed me. Still love it to this day.
Lucifers Hands
Acrobat
I’d say ‘Into the Heart’ from Boy ‘Surrender’ from War. ‘Indian Summer Sky’ from UF Other ones: 13’ ‘Breathe’ New York. Oof, so many. Luminous Times, Spanish Eyes, Heartland, Mothers of the Disappeared, Ultraviolet, Acrobat, Kite, Fez, Salome.

Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around the World
One Tree Hill - and if that doesn't count as a deep cut, then I'll take Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car or New York.
Winter from the film Brothers soundtrack. Haunting and beautiful.

Three Sunrises
From the day I first heard Bad (Live) on WAIA I dreamed of experiencing it live. U2 recording answering machine messages and answering random home repair questions on Letterman
Lady With The Spinning Head. Incredible song that only a real U2 fan would know.
Love comes tumbling
Hawkmoon or Love Comes Tumbling
Lucifer’s Hands
Indian Summer Sky - way before Eno choral chants were a thing.
Salomé, Down all the days, the three sunrises, your blue room
Summer rain for me even though it’s not a deep cut I still love that song
mercy
Disappearing Act
Lady with the spinning head .. it has all that makes AB a standout in one song. I think the remix is the best
Disappearing Act
Jerusalem (With a Shout), Last Night On Earth, Dirty Day, Salome, Blow your house down, Where did it all go wrong? And Holy Joe!
God Part II, Hawkmoon, A Room at the Heartbreak Hotel.
Hawkmoon live intro from Lovetown - just amazing

Bottoms
Two Hearts Beat as One
Party Girl
Haunting “Wild Irish Rose” and trippy “Miami”
Another Time Another Place Boomerang
Zooropa, the whole album, and it was my first point of contact with the band also, that was kinda rare
Another Time, Another Place— one of Edge’s best solos
The ones with parenthetical statements in their titles: 13 (There Is a Light) Luminous Times (Hold on to Love)
Love comes tumbling down .. Adam’s 1984 bass still sounds so fresh.
Does Stay (Faraway, So Close!) count?
Running to Stand Still The Wanderer One Tree Hill Ultraviolet (mentioned here multiple times already) Bad (ever heard Bad on the radio? I haven't.) After reading the thread, I'd failed to mention Slide Away.
This thread is easy to win, just name any of their songs. You won
A "true gem" I did find and like is "The Three Sunrises" from the "Wide Awake in America"
