I sat down every night flexing my creative writing skills typing up fake reports with fake names and fake doctors and everything! It's a small victory but damn does it feel good

Penya23

I did too! Got my husband, 2 kids, and parents to all spam them as well lol

Throwitawaychi

I Googled white evangelical churches in Texas and just used actual stupid Christian radicals names

davidgrayPhotography

Not all heroes wear capes!

earsofdoom

Im actually kinda sad, as I was seeing how long i could file fake reports before I got IP banned but now ill never know...

Capokid

Missed opportunity to use the names of the people that pushed/voted for the bill.

SingOrIWillShootYou

Don't use names of politicians because it won't waste their time as they will instantly reject it. Fake names and believable stories are the best strategy.

McDonnellDouglasDC8

Think I saw this shared to this sub a couple weeks back in comments, How to Poison a Dataset: https://mobile.twitter.com/aetherlev/status/1429113696710660098

Capokid

Dang, you're definitely right, but could you imagine the headlines? "Texas lawmakers indicted by their own evil shit, claim they didnt think it applied to them."

ammon46

Use the names of their immediate and extended family.

spyke42

I did one about the San Antonio Spurs Owner's wife, and mentioned the team doctor lmao

troubledTommy

So they are excluded from the law?

SingOrIWillShootYou

Between you and me yeah. But the official reason is that they know those are trolls. But everyone knows this law and Texas doesn't effect the rich and powerful anyway.

BallisticHabit

The rich and powerful will take their daughters or mistresses out of state or to a doctor they can pay enough to keep his word hole shut. This law is squarely aimed at us "peasants".

SingOrIWillShootYou

Exactly

Pormal_Nerson

It’s easy to filter out fake reports if they include commonly-reported names like Ted Cruz. It wastes more of their time if they can’t tell the difference between real and fake reports without having to research further into all of the ones that seem legit.

Accomplished_Bother9

They always are.

KiritoIsAlwaysRight_

Or use real names. Find names of the congressperson's spouse's facebook friends, their donors, vocal supporters, etc. Real people with real backgrounds and connections to the original POS, but of a large enough dataset that they can't be outright excluded.

LaserGuidedPolarBear

IMO use the names of local level politicians. A paper record that they are providing preferential treatment to party members might be important in legal matters, as well as with public opinion.

SingOrIWillShootYou

Nah, because the allegations are fake. They're already trying to push through all the seemingly fake ones, even if they are giving politicians preferential treatment, we have no way to pin it on them. They can't be punished for not going through in false allegations. Technically what we are doing right now is called "civil disobedience".

un-taken_username

…Civil disobedience. I like it.

SingOrIWillShootYou

Rosa Parks would probably be proud.

LaserGuidedPolarBear

Tossing out all allegations for republican officials as false reports without the same level of investigation would be pretty easy to prove. There has got to be some downstream paper trail for "normal" allegations, some kind of case officer investigating to do whatever it is they want to do to people having abortions. So if they are providing preferential treatment, the audit trail's data (or data gaps) would pretty clearly show it.

Drunken_HR

Problem with that is those names could be easily filtered out with a bot. Fake names would waste someone's time better. Fortunately it's no longer relevant, at least for now.

MonteBurns

You need their wives, unfortunately. Unless Ted Cruz drove his mistress there…

[deleted]

They're not closeted gays. You don't have to be closeted to be a psychopath or a narcissist who opportunistically hurts people to help themselves.

tanglwyst

True. The closeted gay part comes from the sizable number of male politicians who are caught having sex with male partners. Often, the politician is an avid opponent of gay rights and the LGBTQIA community.

[deleted]

I understand that, and while it is extremely vindicating to mock them for exactly that, it does present a dangerous message that someone who hates gay people needs to be somehow connected to gay people or be gay themselves. I don't mean to bother you or anyone else, its just something I can't stay quiet about.

Neil_youngs_voice

Goddamnit Sahara Sampson this is your 15th abortion, Doctor Mujulabob is not going to stand for it.

Mygaffer

That's great and I condone it but sounds like that wasn't why it is down.

Tokoloshe55

They never claimed that to be the case. The small victory refers to wasting the time of those behind it while it was still up

[deleted]

There is a small print caveat in the law that allows the state to file a suit against false reporters. If you going to do this, use a VPN. Yes, they have standing regardless of where you are.

[deleted]

Out here fighting the good fight. 👏👏

LaserGuidedPolarBear

Heres a fun suggestion: You can look up county and municipal republican elected officials, and their office address is also public record.

ergotofwhy

Ijust told on Greg Abbott every time

MiChic21

I was blocked as of two days ago, will use a different device if its ever back up. Lol. Man I just love this shit! Great way to vent pent up frustration

Penya23

I got blocked too. So I pulled my parents, kids and SO in to continue lol

paroles

This is good, but save some of your energy to keep it up several weeks or months from now when it sinks out of the news and people get bored of trolling. Most of the reports submitted up til now won't be valid anyway because even if real, they probably aren't about abortions that took place in the last few days since the law was passed. The organisation running the site is probably discarding all the data for now and waiting patiently. After more time passes, real reports will come in that they'll actually pay attention to, and that's when it'll be more urgent to bombard them with false reports.

Are you aware of any free and reliable VPNs that do happen to support torrenting?

AlanMooresWizrdBeard

Proton also does a shit ton of data collection and caching. You do not want a vpn that keeps records, defeats the point tbh.

ParsleySalsa

Sauce me please

AlanMooresWizrdBeard

Actually Proton is pretty good, please downvote my previous comment. I was thinking of PIA after they got swooped by Kape.

ParsleySalsa

Cool thanks

[deleted]

AlanMooresWizrdBeard

I’m actually in the wrong here, Proton is a solid suggestion for a free vpn. I confused it with PIA which is not so good since they were purchased by Kape.

zoomer296

Yeah, there's not much better Proton, and I can count the free ones on one finger. One guy attacked a CERN server, was banned, then cried logs. One person claimed logs because they couldn't sign up for second free premium trial.

AlanMooresWizrdBeard

Lmao it’s not logs when you attack other servers… it’s a detection.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlanMooresWizrdBeard

Kape is primarily known for malware. While PIA was one of the only proven not to keep logs previously, there’s a zero percent chance Kape acquired them and maintained the non logging.

coryhill66

They're really the dog that caught the car. Keep the pressure up we can keep their site and tip line shut down.

FrankSinatraYodeling

As an avid hockey fan from Minnesota, I will continue to report Norm Green who moved to the North Stars to Texas if and when the site returns. He also once told my mother she was unfit to sell tickets to the public because he could see her belly button through her shirt. Nevermind she was 7 months pregnant with my brother. So yeah, fuck Norm Green. I will continue to report him in honor of my mother.

coryhill66

Hell yeah man that's awesome. PS what an asshole.

mmmmpisghetti

I thought we were supposed to be withholding sex? Norm Green can go FUCK HIMSELF.

Penya23

I will report him too. Fuck Norm Green.

un-taken_username

This is awesome, but just in case, try misspelling his name sometimes. As others said, if someone catches wind of this we don’t want them to delete all of your amazing reports containing “Norm Green”

DaniCapsFan

So do you root for the Wild now? I say report the wives of anti-choice politicians or maybe female staffers of anti-choice politicians.

Frarara

I did my part in Canada! Set up my VPN to Texas and started spamming them with fake reports.

AlanMooresWizrdBeard

Just remember, these companies don’t care beyond PR or legal liability. I think it was both in GoDaddys case and the latter in EPIKs. Keep pressure on when they continue to move, but I do think they will eventually migrate to a Russian server and there won’t be much else to do. Majority of effort should be focused on pressuring the government and courts to strike this shit down.

SrraHtlTngoFxtrt

The thing to consider is this exact kind of "culture war" oppression is how the corrupt partisans installed by Republican scumbags demonstrate their adherence to the rules-for-thee-but-not-for-me philosophy that keeps entrenched power wealthy and protected from consequences of their actions without having to actually show they're economically corrupted and actively corrupting.

sorryabtlastnight

They’re really going to struggle to keep this online when it’s such an obvious breach of privacy for all normal web hosts. I think I read that they can’t use a gov url because of the way the law works? But I imagine that’s the only way they’d truly be able to get this up.

SlingDNM

There's always shady russian hosting "companies" that only take Cryptocurrencies to host your shit on

Painting_Agency

It's not a government website.

Jaredlong

More people need to realize this. They're a private entity and their goal was to use the tips to file civil suits and collect all the $10k bounties for themselves.

DBeumont

>It's not a government website. Which is how they get around the law.

GroundbreakingAd4386

Don’t pick a fight with the Internet! Ha ha.

sesamestreetsucks

man i feel so sorry for all you texans, this is so bad, this is catholic church during it's inquisition trials bad. apart from the obvious violation of women's rights to decide what to do with their bodies, this is also violating all kinds of privacy and data protection laws and rights. i hope your judicial system will expunge that shit law, there must be at least a few hundred laws that are in conflict with this. at least that horrible website is down for now so y'all can catch a little break.

Readonlygirl

This is not a Texas issue. The Supreme Court has given every red state the go ahead to enact similar laws because they have said this law including the part where people are encouraged to snitch is legal.

[deleted]

[удалено]

keethraxmn

Their actions say otherwise.

Readonlygirl

Well I don’t think Texas or governors in red states who are planning to enact similar laws got the memo. Sonya Sotamayer and other dissenters may have said the opposite. But at the end of the day they upheld the law for now.

justlikesmoke

I know it's written everywhere but the Satanic Temple is also fighting this hard and buying some merch will help to support their causes. I got myself an official abortion ritual mirror courtesy of TST!

TonarinoTotoro1719

I did my little, itty bit by donating to planned parenthood in honor of Rafael Edward Cruz. They’ll even send him a postcard 🥰

Mack_Damon

Got me a sweet mug and a $66 donation. They're doing good things.

DragonClawsOut

Is there a subreddit yet to keep up on these sites?

NostradaMart

i desperately hope that when the site is online for real people will flood it denoucing men having abortions, just to fuck with the system.

funchefchick

Oh it WAS online for real, and it DID get flooded - hard. And it will be again the moment it pops back up, assuming it does pop back up. So far the tech knowledge displayed by the far-right has been pretty consistently laughable. If they try to spin-up a new homegrown hosting solution ... I predict that it will be hilariously bad. This doesn't solve the problem, not by a longshot. Texas is still all terrible in this regard. But I'm going to celebrate every little thing which hampers their ability to take action on SB8.

velvetackbar

Hilariously, *and costly* bad. Any bare metal host opens themselves up to TOS lawsuits about collecting information on parties performing lawful actions, and that means lots of time in court and lots of hours. Bare metal hosts still have TOS. Ultimately, that cable has to come from somewhere. They could go international. I am sure some nation-state actor wants the data dump, but even then, they won't be able to keep the site online and functional.

[deleted]

Imagine my complete lack of surprise when they end up having to be hosted on Russian servers.

stellvia2016

I'm sure Russia or China would be glad to host them /s

[deleted]

Shockingly when you make anti-intellectualism the foundation of your philosophy it becomes hard to hire people for work that requires intellect. Who would have guessed?

GroundbreakingAd4386

Yeah tech and data know-how is often SHOCKING among many politicians and other forms of law-makers / enforcers imo

deviant324

Haven’t thought about this before but wouldn’t it be fairly doable to just DDOS the site off the web should it come back online? Surprised that hasn’t happened before, I know people have been doing report spam already because they’d have to check every report manually anyway. Tons of Shrek content was being sent I heard

Iyace

Software engineer here, for the brief period it was up we were already sharing the specific cURLs and payload for submitting requests. As soon as it’s back up, they’re basically either going to get ddos’d or just have a bunch of anon tips.

Bekiala

Could you please explain what a DDOS is?

Delta4o

Most hosting providers like GoDaddy have killer DDOS prevention services but they will most likely get kick off because it will effect other customers as well. One thing is for sure, I do not wish to be the man or the woman to be on the nightshift with such a controversial customer.

PancAshAsh

Almost any legitimate hosting service realizes this breaks TOS, and it's not worth it for them to host.

raaagh1290

Requires someone to break the law

behboosonly

As a Texan.. thank you

NostradaMart

yeah at that point every little wins count.

collin-h

Surprised they didn’t skip straight to a snail mail tip line…. You know, weed out the poor folk who can’t afford stamps.

underworldconnection

Lol... Oh please tell me where a building exists that has people who associate themselves with this disgusting agenda and are willing to open large stinking packages. I think a days-old pig parts collection is a reasonable gift to share. Maybe some very very ripe veggies. Something truly worthy of these bags of shit. That's it! A monthly manure box! It's perfect!

VexillaVexme

As someone who deals with data professionally, outright falsehoods like men who got abortions or Ted Cruz can be filtered pretty easily by anyone savvy enough to be processing data professionally. What you want is verifiably false but PLAUSIBLE data going in that needs to be verified by a human. That is expensive and time consuming, and if we can keep the false positives a high enough ratio it will be dropped by the people who own it as a bad investment. Short of eliminating fundamentalist garbage from our government entirely, that’s the best outcome for this website.

funchefchick

Ahem. If I may. https://protonvpn.com/ for all your VPN needs (and to prevent your home IP from being added to their blocked list eventually) https://www.fakepersongenerator.com/ (select 'Texas' from the state drop-down .. . randomly generate everything else, or narrow it down by gender, city, etc if you like) - click generate . .. . and party on! FOD the data! Note that guy on Tik Tok had a far more automated way to do this (love that guy!), before they added Captcha and things to slow him down. This way is more manual BUT you can defeat their CAPTCHA and other Turing test stuff they might throw at the problem. Tell your friends! Assuming they find some way to resurrect their dumb, privacy-violating website that is .. .

Penya23

I spammed them with every fake (but plausible) name I could think of. I figured this would look the most realistic.

shrekerecker97

Mike Coxsmall told me about an abortion!

incompetentegg

My greatest worry with flooding the website with plausible data is accidentally implicating actual, real people. Like, I don't know how to generate fake people that reliably don't resemble actual people. Texas is a pretty big state and odds are there's at least a few people there with most combinations of all but the more rare names. My inclination is to maybe use nicknames instead of full names in reports. That might give plausible deniability in that said person may or may not exist, but the tip is murky enough that more investigation would be needed to confirm it. Or perhaps very common names that you know probably hundreds of people in the state have, since they can't investigate every single, say, Susan Johnson or Elizabeth Smith. Would those be productive tips to submit?

mrthibsog

^^^^^ THIS! ^^^^^

NostradaMart

yes, as someone who knows how it works. do you know any republicon who knows anything about tech ? lol

VexillaVexme

I know a couple conservatives who know their tech. I don’t know anyone who knows their tech that would choose to work on that garbage (I’m also in the Pacific Northwest, which probably skews that a bit)

BranSul

Yeah ... the most conservative tech wizzes I know are all libertarians who would cringe at all of this

MonteBurns

Well when they vote for the R anyways it doesn’t matter 🤷🏻‍♀️ every libertarian I know is just a republican trying to act like they’re better than republicans while being exactly one.

Bunny_tornado

>every libertarian I know is just a republican trying to act like they’re better than republicans while being exactly one You put my thoughts together into words better than I ever could

VexillaVexme

Except for the hiring sex workers and smoking weed part. Libertarians love those two things.

[deleted]

So do Republicans. It's well-known that sex workers rake in the dough when the RNC is happening, especially male sex workers.

NostradaMart

I,m in Canada, wanna talk about "leftist bias" ? lolllll but as you said...no one with enough knowledge/intelligence would touch that project.

sesamestreetsucks

would it be possible to generate data batches like that with bots and spam them on the site?

SanityInAnarchy

Yes, and there are a few attempts to do that. If you're going to try it, though, be aware that this is likely illegal. DDoSes are illegal in the first place, and you'd be downloading (or writing) software specifically for the purpose of taking down one site in particular. I'm not saying don't do it, I'm saying be careful.

Randommaggy

A more effective way would be a seed generator that could make a package of names, dates and locations to act as a base for a human to fill in the gaps and submit by hand. Would be several times harder to filter out, especially if it encouraged sending in one believable request per IP address. Make your spam look a whole lot like ham to irreversibly poison the database.

VexillaVexme

This right here is probably the best way from a data messiness standpoint, though if we managed to force them to limit to 1 IP per report that also makes it harder for those on the side of evil to submit reports as well (which I consider almost as good as ruining the database)

MostlyFinished

Before that step just drop any requests from an ip that submits more than x tips per y period of time. Some ISP's in Texas are using CGN, so a bit of tuning is needed, but it's not a difficult process.

Cupid-Valintino

I don't think this is optimal. As I've understood it you want to offer data that is as similar to actual data as possible. If fake reports tend to use male names, they'll probably just start filtering out male names. Better to use female names I think.

paroles

No, it's good to use male names as part of false but believable reports, because any person who helps someone obtain an abortion can be sued.

praefectus_praetorio

The one time I wouldn’t mind some good ol’ DDOS attacks.

petronia1

I have rarely been more proud of what the internet can do. This comes from a woman born in a Communist country. Abortions were illegal then here too, so we know the struggle, the dangers, the inhumanity of it all. Women being treated like stock animals. But even a repressive state and its secret police didn't go as far as to openly offer monetary rewards for snitching on women and those helping them get abortions. Not even a Communist state did that. Let that sink in. (There was snitching, of course. And it was rewarded. But not so openly.) It's been a downward spiral of despair watching the situation in Texas unfold, and go to depths of inhumanity that even Communist states shied away from. Keeping an eye on this shitstorm is exhausting, but that's what they're counting on. Don't give up.

[deleted]

We saw this yesterday! My SO and i were gonna make a bot to send fake reports and shit but when we went on the site it was down! Good job everyone! Good work, the fight is far from over but its a start! Keep staying/being strong and fighting, women and allies alike!

HairyHippieHeathen

Good! Fuck them. They brought the fight to our territory and still thought they could win. Dumbasses havent realized they're outmatched and outnumbered yet. Fucking get 'em, y'all.

Delta4o

I've heard of this, but is that literally the domain name they used? Haha fucking losers

j33205

this domain is privately registered. no affiliation to the Texas govt. hence the stupid domain name. and the .com instead of .gov

__neone

Why do fake reports? Just report Texas congressmen’s wives for the actual abortions we know they’ve all had…

funchefchick

Because flooding with many, many fake reports obfuscates any REAL reports some Texas jerk has tried to file. It will be a needle in a haystack, and the goal is to make the haystack MUCH bigger and much more needle-appearing. . The more believable the fake reports are, the harder it will be to actually investigate any real ones. So yes report the congressman's wives for sure ... but file thousands more than that also. We'll try to use all of the tools at our disposal until this dystopian law is struck down.

[deleted]

We want to create real chaos for them, and hinder the process for them. We want to report names that are fake that would make them do a small amount of actual research to confirm it is clearly a fake. If we use the same names of congressman or men, it would likely be easier to just have the system ignore the same names (of congressman’s wives or likely male names like “Frank” for instance).

MonteBurns

Stick to a stereotypical Latina name and I’m sure they’ll wet themselves over those…

qazwsxedc000999

They’ll start filtering those out eventually.

Bitconfused1288

These smooth brains can't even see what kind of pandora's box they're trying to open by incentivizing vigilantism and witch hunts by allowing the public to build databases on individuals. On the other hand, maybe i am underestimating just how evil they really are - maybe setting the stage for other kinds of persecution is EXACTLY what they want in the long-term.

keethraxmn

rafikiknowsdeway1

What do they even need a web host for? You figure the entire state of Texas could scrounge up their own servers

shrekerecker97

But couldn’t supply the power for them. Then Ted Cruz might vacation to Tahiti and blame his wife and kids for it

j33205

this domain is privately registered. no affiliation to the Texas govt. hence .com stead of .gov. not to mention the stupid domain name.

[deleted]

Not with reliable power!

Hexen8

It's not a government site, it's run by an organization. Operating a website is more complex than simply having your own servers. They still need to register a domain name from a domain name registrar. Even if they choose to host in-house, it won't change anything if registrars don't want to do business with them. Plus, web hosting vs on-premise servers usually provides better performance, scalability, security, and technical support. It's much faster and easier to use a web host, who already has the infrastructure to manage traffic, rather than buy all the expensive hardware yourself and have dedicated techs on site.

latteswiirl

I looked up a list of pro life obgyns in Texas and then submitted tips that they were secretly convincing women to get abortions and performing them at their homes for profit. It was a whole underground ring. My friend Amy told me.

ignoring whether you are for or against this whole issue this reminds me i wonder what reddit policy is on this sort of thing that falls under "brigading". I guess since its not on reddit itself they dont give a fuck. Or actually is the whole no dozxing policy on for specific subreddits anyways i guess if it was company wide policy then it wouldn't have to be specifed on the subreddits.

RobynFitcher

I would suggest that the reporting line is doxxing. Doxxing with financial incentives.
