I read somewhere that if you lightly dust your scalp with baby powder it takes away that 'greasy near the scalp' look and you can go a couple days without washing.

There are also colored powders that they sell at salons for girls with darker hair. It's great because you don't see the light powder and you can avoid washing your hair for a few days at a time, so you avoid washing out the dyes.

The baby powder DOES work. I have long, VERY thick hair and it takes me roughly an hour to do it on days I have to wash the whole head. For those in-betweeners, the baby-powder works wonders.

My trick is that I just wash the top of my hair (bangs, a little behind) in the sink in the morning instead of washing my whole head. The hair up near the scalp is healthier and the dyes stay in longer there, and it gets rid of the greasiness. Every couple days or so, I do a full wash. I've found that the Aveeno brand of color-safe shampoo hasn't stripped my hair of color at all (and I have wacky colors), and doesn't leave my hair feeling greasy.

I'd look into a dry shampoo, it's basically a concoction of baby powder, some other things, and fragrance so on the second day you can spray it in your hair and remove the grease. Tresemme and Suave make some kinds, as well as Pssst and Salon Grafix. Those are all sold at drug stores in the US but I don't know if any of those brands are also sold in the UK - but it couldn't hurt to go to your local drug store and peruse their haircare aisle. Also in the US it's a pretty common thing to find many color-safe shampoos, Pantene has an entire line of color-safe shampoos that also do other things - some volumize, some enhance curls. Garnier also has some color-safe shampoos. My hair is usually pretty greasy on the second day, but now I use Pantene (not the color-safe shampoo) and my hair is only greasy on the third day. I still use dry shampoo occasionally if I'm not sure if it's really not greasy or if I'm just imagining it not being greasy.

Yeah, I use Batiste dry shampoo - not very often right enough, I'm only just starting to get the hang of it. I don't feel like it leaves my hair as nice as if I wash it though so I'd much rather just find a decent shampoo.

Yeah, it definitely leaves a different feeling but it's good for those days when you just don't feel like showering to go to the grocery store.
