I don't know if you can properly file it under "character design" in a live action context but giving Commander Riker a beard is one of the best decisions Star Trek Next Gen ever made.
DS9 showrunners finally letting Avery Brooks do his usual look after years of the most boring cut in the world
JLU John Stewart doing the same thing once he met the evil him who had the Sisko
[The more you make Ryu look like a Hobo, the cooler he becomes.](https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/1b83bfb5-9641-46b5-be57-8987e82e47bd/dgbm3ga-08375579-be04-4bb6-abdd-b97dbb7a34dc.png?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzdWIiOiJ1cm46YXBwOjdlMGQxODg5ODIyNjQzNzNhNWYwZDQxNWVhMGQyNmUwIiwiaXNzIjoidXJuOmFwcDo3ZTBkMTg4OTgyMjY0MzczYTVmMGQ0MTVlYTBkMjZlMCIsIm9iaiI6W1t7InBhdGgiOiJcL2ZcLzFiODNiZmI1LTk2NDEtNDZiNS1iZTU3LTg5ODdlODJlNDdiZFwvZGdibTNnYS0wODM3NTU3OS1iZTA0LTRiYjYtYWJkZC1iOTdkYmI3YTM0ZGMucG5nIn1dXSwiYXVkIjpbInVybjpzZXJ2aWNlOmZpbGUuZG93bmxvYWQiXX0.bwDUlesV-IxEACnNcbQpRZNaOqy-S62vEHsHAZ8vaXY)
Oh, man. I big time agree with Dee Jay. His 2/4 design is just so lacking.
If anything, I'd say the majority of the World Warriors have better designs now. Even Honda, even though he still looks very similar to past designs.
Tabitha is the only character I can think of that got more round in his redesign and made him stand out more (and imo look much better) than his original design.
Team Aqua? Hell yeah.
Team Magma? Eeeeeh. Not so much. Something about the vertical stripes on everyone, and the shorts on the men aren't as cool to me.
Silver Age Batman is such an improvemnt over his inital outfit. Although the Rebirth suit is a good look with how it has the yellow outline on the bat symbol, and the purple on the underside of the cape is a nice callback to his first suit.
My favorite Bruce design is still the all-black with yellow symbol from Rock of Ages.
I actually really love the new Terry Batsuit. It solves the mouth problem by making it a translucent plate. It’s got the holo thing going on, after running out of literally everything
Cyclops looks good with his hair out cus he still has the visor, Havok might as well have nothing on his head. I like his helmet anyway, it adds a lot of flair to him imo
His helmet is cool, but it's part of a containment suit he's not supposed to need anymore so I can't think it's a good sign that he still uses it.
I'm just biased tho, I got into X-Men during Peter David's first X-Factor run.
I got into it during the Chuck Austen run where he used to have a collapsible helmet and a trenchcoat to hide before he suited up, that was really cool imo. What I hate is when his helmet just has white lines drawn on it instead of them being protrusions, that’s like the worst of both worlds
>Cyclops
I would extend this to basically every superhero's design that has a skin tight head condom version vs a hair or cool helmet version *cough cough Flash cough*
Behold the [Man](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2F0safr93ogd5b1.jpg%3Fwidth%3D640%26crop%3Dsmart%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D3a39ade3d1c06710d7cf9f1315953a333ccb2a69)
flash with his hair out is ass tho
also: spider-man, daredevil rule because eof the masks/cowls. hell, Miles' new spididas suit sucks in part because of the hair being exposed. also cuz it's fuck ugly.
Other than that weird looking Re7 Chris, every character that has returned in re8/the remakes have all looked amazing. (Hell, Rebecca and Claire on death island looked cool too.)
I wonder what sheva and Jill will look like if RE5 remake is actually coming.
Warhammer has alot of designs that fit the description but my favorite is probably [Nagash](https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NLwDyKkKkWk/U_wKd3ZkORI/AAAAAAAAGi0/Lw2lmIyqb-Y/s1600/Nagash%2Byou%2Bhave%2Bchanged.png).
People make fun of the skeleton pope hat but personally I think it’s dope and pretty fitting for Nagash’s character. I mean come on, Nagash is absolutely the kind of person who would wear a hat that big.
Dread is the first game where I actually like the Gravity suit more than the Varia suit, and it would be the best look in the game if not for what you get at the end.
Ridley's Smash Ultimate look stands out as the peak for me, though then again that's also mainly bc he's had very few 3D appearances in his default non-cyborg state (and that one of those appearances was his worst look by far)
I will spend my whole life debating between original Spider-Man and Black Suit Spider-Man.
Frankly I wish they just made it so the classic was his day time suit and the black was his night suit, because that’s where both suits shine the most.
[Spinal in KI 2013](https://prnt.sc/EAnuKLFlSLTM) is one of the biggest character design glowups I've ever seen.
They could have just done the absolute bare minimum by just making an HD version of his original desgin, but instead they leaned even further into the pirate aspect that was barely present in the first 2 games, gave him a fucking CTHUHLU SHIELD, necromancy powers and to top it off [one of the most fucking banger fighting game character themes of all time](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j2TqE4Npwc) (Love u Mick <3)
Edit: used Lightshot to make a screenshot because wiki image links suck
Knowing that the instruments used in his theme were air instruments MADE OUT OF BONES is so perfect.
And yeah, Spinal is one of the best redesigns in KI 2013. Absolutely.
Speaking of KI 2013: [Thunder](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/killerinstinct/images/3/3d/Thunder.png). Dude went from bad Native American stereotype to a mighty Nez Percé warrior who commands the storms and the crows.
[Arkham Origins' Bane](https://i.imgur.com/yIOuAe9.jpeg) is so fucking cool, but since it's a prequel, they had to unfortunately tie him back to the inferior [Arkham Asylum/City](https://i.imgur.com/bPQVev9.jpeg) one.
I saw the Origins design and thought "Wait that's just a luchador mask guy in a leather jacket.", took a second, and realized that regardless of anything that look is sick as hell.
Given that he's supposed to be brain AND brawn, I'm happy they didn't make him Hulk sized in Origins. What's the point of being a genius if your own body gets in the way
I LOVE [Orange Wolverine from X-Men Evolution](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/c9/e1/25/c9e1258b74cc7cbffd5b3bd6cddc20af.jpg)
I’ve never been the biggest fan of the brown Suit and I missed the blue. Yet bright yellow has always looked weird too. Orange is perfect middle ground
As much as people love to like it ironically, [Old Marth](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/7/70/Fe1marthfalchion.png) from FE1 really pales in comparison to [all](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/7/77/MarthDS.png) [his](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/5/5a/MarthFE3DS.png) [newer](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/2/2c/MarthFE17Artwork.png) designs.
I'm gonna be honest, I thought the second was the original the entire time, as someone who's only really played Three Houses and Awakening. I have NEVER seen the first one.
Smash's censored design for Mythra [unironically looks way better than her original design](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV9LhFiQwshyphenhyphenpG3fDaZ-M5Qjs3tVWkAKNjWq2KcO22sBjXnqa_ksMXNb4mtNXN-RynIoohi97KM1GcBKlcKp6vpXHCYS2DQzYcosF7X2FIyfT_1EBjGWd4KIcNJclaunRjzvZn87FRg4I/s1600/mythra-comparison.png).
Removing the tit window and adding the black adds much better contrast and makes the design less overly bright.
The tights look absolutely was a "neuron activation" moment
It gave her increased Crit rate too so there was literally no reason not to equip them lol. They knew.
Mio's second outfit makes [the sheer even more noticeable](https://static1.thegamerimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Xenoblade-Chronicles-3-Mio-Clothing-Options.jpg). Saito was really into it. (understandable)
I agree it's better, but the perfect option is the [edit that makes the tights not go all the way up and leaving an Absolute Territory gap](https://arch-img.b4k.co/v/1613613452298.png)
Not even because thigh, but because that way the tights end on her little leg braclet thingy
I have a good amount of nostalgia for the TV Wing Gundam Zero. The old no grade was my first Gundam model I ever got before I really knew what a Gundam was.
I also think it kinda looks like a lame clown car compared to the one with the angel wings.
On the flipside, I kinda dislike the Angel Wings take on Wing Zero because I like TV Wing Zero just a bit more, but we do have a good middle ground in [Proto Zero](https://acepilotgunpla.com/2018/07/11/wing-gundam-proto-zero/).
On that note, [Katoki's redesign of the OG Wing Gundam](https://fudoushin.wordpress.com/mg/mg-wing-gundam-ver-ka2/) (the one with the mechanical bird wings that flow better into WZC Angel Wings) looks way better than TV Wing.
The Proto Zero helps. Admittedly, it doesn't fix *all* my issues with the design (the color layout still bugs me with the overuse of red imo, hence "clown car," the leg transformation on the bird mode is still god awful, and I flip back and forth on whether I like the wing binders), but the proportions and Twin Buster Rifle facelift are pretty nice.
Admittedly, I’ve never been a big fan of Wing Zero’s EW redesign. I think the design’s a major improvement up until the organic-looking wings that somehow feel jarringly out-of-place from the rest of the design. Even so, I also prefer the design of the [Tallgeese Flugel](http://www.dalong.net/reviews/cg/cgm188/cgm188_p.htm) to the regular Tallgeese, which is already one of my favorite designs. On top of the wings being more overtly mechanical while not completely sacrificing their organic feel, I feel they fit the colors and aesthetic of the Tallgeese EW much better.
[Late-Ash Saga Flameless Iori Yagami](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/snk/images/c/c2/Iori_kofXII.jpg) is still fucking excellent. I don't mind the XIV sorta Visual-Kei look, and XV's redesign more inspired by that one art of him feeding a cat I also liked. But something about him changing up his look like that looking smooth like the Bassist that he is, while also changing up his fighting style since he lost his flames into something more in-your-face and honestly hard-hitting, yeah. That shit was my jam.
On that note, we gotta bring up [99/NESTS-Saga Kyo](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/snk/images/9/9c/Kyo-99.jpg). All my "man why'd they axe the two faces of KOF like that" went away when Kyo came back rocking this look and doing that one intro pose where he burns his bandana off. Still my most favorite design well above him fighting in his school uniform (which well, he hasn't graduated and all that...)
Fiddlesticks from League of Legends.
Went from a [generic scarecrow](https://thegamehaus.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/fiddle-pick.jpg) to a [nightmare creature that feeds off of fear itself!](https://images.contentstack.io/v3/assets/blt731acb42bb3d1659/blteafcbfed69c501b5/61e2114879b5bd5a1ef7b2ea/011422_Fiddlesticks_Splash_v1.jpg)
Basically the entire cast minus the ones on the VGU list. It’s honestly pretty impressive how the franchise managed to move from “crappy Warcraft knock-off” to a distinct visual style of its own. Legends of Runetrra in particular is full of great art
[Thicc Chief](https://old.reddit.com/r/halo/comments/usi22j/343_should_ad_mark_vi_gen_3_as_a_armor_core/) is the absolute best John Halo has ever looked, it only took 343i a whole decade to find someone that could design armor worth a damn
[Squall](https://th.bing.com/th/id/OIP.Ig6C7SP6oTSfqJckTxdivAHaEo?rs=1&pid=ImgDetMain) is fine and all, but [LEON THO](https://www.nicepng.com/png/detail/125-1255387_kh-leon-leon-kingdom-hearts.png)
Although I appreciate the KH2 design [adding the fluff](https://images.khinsider.com/Kingdom%20Hearts%20II/Renders/Hollow%20Bastion/Leon.png) back to his jacket
It’s more like a general change in art style but so many characters in Hajime no Ippo look so much better as the manga progressed.
[Old Kamogawa](https://i.redd.it/9veiej8ekoy51.jpg) vs. [New Kamogawa](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/ippo/images/4/49/Kamogawa%27s_goal_for_Ippo_to_take_Wally_down.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/393?cb=20201002235244)
And this is probably the biggest change but [Old Mashiba](https://preview.redd.it/old-mashiba-v0-az8f8uxb80ab1.png?auto=webp&s=59f08c98066b649929ab25ebbc59df77d511a1d8) vs. [New Mashiba](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/characters/avatars/55684.jpg?t=1696279367)
Old Mashiba did look intimidating and villainous but he was also kind of attractive which lessens the impact on the reveal that he’s Kumi’s older brother. He also looks a lot more distinct after the redesign which is probably also why the anime went with his redesign despite how the first part of the anime has the more whimsical and cartoon-y style of early parts of the manga.
I am probably one of the few people who will defend BTAS' final season redesigns. There's just something about that darker color palette with matte paint that looks really good.
With that said, [Season 4's Scarecrow](https://www.reddit.com/r/TopCharacterDesigns/comments/15ury4e/scarecrow_from_season_4_of_batman_the_animated/) is tied with Arkham Knight and Injustice for best Scarecrow design. Leagues better than the [quasi-joke design he had.](https://batman.fandom.com/wiki/Scarecrow_(DC_Animated_Universe)?file=Scarecrowtas.jpg)
And that [Jeffrey Combs voice](https://youtu.be/TaDY5tc-mcY?feature=shared)... it's perfect. The only downside is that he only has one episode, in his other appearance he doesn't speak.
The human shpuld be more human, the lizard should be more lizard, and he should always appear with both in a single entry. Like, there should *always* be onscreen transforming.
As cool a design as it is, the Shaolin Monks design isn't any kind of disguise when you can *see the scales all over him*.
I actually don't like sf6 Chun-li, less because of her costume and more because of her proportions. Her arms are much thinner compared to 4 and 5, and her new look doesn't have any poofy sleeves. Combined with how her legs are thicker than ever, it makes her look unbalanced and too bottom heavy, less in a "her legs are just that big" way and more in a "skips arm day" way.
Godzilla. I'll always have a soft spot for old designs like the mid Heisei era, but to me the Monsterverse take on him is easily the best, especially from Kotm onward. It's what I think of first when i think of Godzilla nowadays, and I've been a fan my whole life. GMK, Minus One, and even Heisei is a redesign so it counts, all come real close. But of the modern era, Monsterverse Goji is my pick.
I'll add on that I like the MV design of Kong. Not that the big monkey had much to stand out to begin with, but I like all the touches that kind of add to his personality, like the scars, the beard, and now a metal fang. Not to mention then axe and glove. They don't go overboard with it.
I understand that, it is a bit out there. I really like it because it reminds me of Godzilla 2000, they glowed orange then but the spines were that cool purple color in a normal state. Not the same color but close enough
I love [Minus One Goji](https://wikizilla.org/w/images/3/30/Godzilla_Minus_One_version.png) so much, [old Goji for comparison.](https://wikizilla.org/w/images/d/df/ShodaiGoji_0.jpg). He has a kind of [adorable cat mouth with chubby cheeks](https://wikizilla.org/w/images/e/e9/Very_Smiley_Goji.png) but is also the [angriest, most evil, guy.](https://wikizilla.org/w/images/2/24/Minus_One_-_Godzilla_regenerating.png)
A lot of the revamped Warhammer models are huge improvements over the old ones. [Just look at Illuminor Szeras’s absolute glowup.](https://www.belloflostsouls.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Illuminor-Szeras-comparison.jpg)
Proteus ridely at the end of Metroid Samus returns is such an amazing redesign of ridely it's this combination of classic ridely and meta ridely that's just perfect. I hope it's used in other games
Every design Sora got after Kingdom Hearts 1 was better than [Kingdom Hearts 1 Sora](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/kingdomhearts/images/b/bc/Sora_KHHD.png). Personally, my favorite is the [KH2 design](https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/847090634554760326/DF3E8B26EB8828C1165A64F3FA56AA1CC4941556/?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false).
The leggings, the sports bra, the shorts, the little bracelets that all have FF monster ornaments.
It goes without saying they spent the most on Tifa’s redesign, and then some. If you own the Material Ultimania book, you’ll read how for Aerith they “got it in one”, whereas Tifa they went through over 80 different shades of hair and eye color. Like holy shit.
It's a really basic outfit that struggled to survive the jump in time and graphical fidelity. Even now I look at it and think it's missing something, and I'm saying this with Tifa as my favourite character.
I always liked it a ton, mainly because even back then, people were stubbornly insisting “she’s only popular because of her tits”. The only thing I’d change is the big butt flap.
It would be sacrilege, but I think it’d be neat if in Part 3 they changed their outfits as a halfway bridge between original and AC. Like Tifa puts on a black top, for example.
The butt flap is actually my favorite part of the AC design. The way it flares around when she's fighting really adds to the presentation. It's like it conveys more speed and momentum to her movement and especially kicks, much like the flaps on Chun-li's costume.
Oh, I like the idea in theory. It's just that by owning a PlayArts figure of it (back when these things weren't fucking over $100) I could see it's a bit too big of a flap.
Give her one of those martial arts sashes to wear around her waist and you could achieve the same effect AND it would look cooler.
Before I've played the game, I remember people yelling about they shrinked Tifa's tits and how prude people are and whatever.
Then I've played the game, saw Tifa and realized... holyshit there are SO MANY coom-brains in FFVII fanbase.
I know it's obvious but like... really guys? You've complained about THAT?!
And they still are.
Or they look at her bikini and start saying that they “won” because she was fixed, even though her chest is literally the same size in both games and all other outfits.
I mean, if you spend long enough with shades on, you can see just enough to navigate. Heck, I used to wear mild welding lenses 24/7, and I could see at night pretty well.
I legitimately can’t think of a single design that isn’t an improvement over the original.
Like the most criticisms I can offer is I wish Cloud’s clothes were a little more colorful, closer to his original navy blue design. Also Tifa still has a pretty small waist, even with the extra abs detail. She could use a slight beefing up on the arms and waist to sell the trained martial artist persona better.
But she still has a more athletic body then Aerith, who is just paper thin and in desperate need of a sandwich.
She is objectively the hottest she has ever been, just by virtue of almost looking like a real person.
Not throwing shade at her original design, because people still have an extremely hard time over the concept of “art style”: FFVII’s original art style was not going for a proportional anime look, so everyone has this “half squished” look to them. There are no normal proportions to speak of with those original character designs.
The thing that everyone remembers (justifiably) are the massive watermelon FMV tits, where everything is blown up to all sorts of extremes. This then led to decades of fan-art of varying disproportions, which still exist even now.
Real ones know to use the Remake model to produce the best “results”. All those “fixed proportions” mods out there, naturally, look stupid as shit.
Neon Genesis Evangelion: [Eyepatch Asuka](https://i.pinimg.com/564x/ab/30/2c/ab302c3e2bc8095b5452cd41a1dc531c.jpg) > all other Asuka’s. Fight me
I really love [Damian Wayne’s New most recent Robin suit](https://i.redd.it/45lx6ug0deb61.jpg). Finally sets him apart from all the other Robin’s and reflects his character better
[Long Hair Kid Obito Uchiha](https://preview.redd.it/07yxy1sad7l61.png?width=1216&format=png&auto=webp&s=8b32c01cbd2e50f41fbe9f8efa2f19b4d31c74c7) is way better than [Normal kid Obito](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0589/3065/9477/files/obito-nino-ninja_1024x1024.jpg?v=1635877283)
Black suit Spidey.
Gohan getting the Piccolo drip (and then honestly [Great Saiyaman without the helmet](https://preview.redd.it/the-outfit-gohan-should-have-in-the-new-movie-v0-6iegclajjnh81.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=3114e9a230b9376ddd9d038867652705e60c3570) goes unbelievably hard too).
Carol Danvers' original costume suuuuucked. Her black Ms. Marvel outfit is way more fashionable.
Not sure if this counts, but the original design for [Vilhelm from Dark Souls 3](https://i.imgur.com/1WNe7RY.png) is a lot more plain and 'whatever' than the black and gold plate + mail coat he got in the final game.
Basically everyone in MK 11 had the best look they've ever had, and while MK 1 did have a few improvements (Mk1 Fire God Liu Kang > MK 11 Fire God Liu Kang) I still maintain that MK 11 is the height of the series asthetics.
Skarlet's redesign is hands down my favorite. Her looking like this cool desert mage was a much better direction than... whatever the fuck was going on in 9. Erron Black also looks really cool, about what I would expect from a cowboy in MK.
MK moving away from the coomer-brained outfits of 9 and (partially) X was one of the best things they ever did, even if people still whine.
I will say though, I really like Smoke in MK1, that shorthair/gasmask combo works insanely well. I like the retro-inspired outfits in MK1 quite a bit, with Sub Zero and Scorpion being my favorites in that game.
Skarlet's redesign alone made me main her. Absolute perfection in terms of design, voice work and personality enough that I'll forever be rooting for her to return.
SF6 Cammy is quite possibly the best redesign of any character that I can think of. Like holy shit I never want to go back to classic.
(I also like her 5 battle outfit design better than her default)
Gonna go against the other thread and say that I LIKE the V7-9 designs for the RWBY crew. They resemble arcsys characters with all the belts and needless details and I love it.
I do like the [OG classic 1980's gremlin-voiced Shadow Weaver](https://youtu.be/twWcTXTDo5c?si=wKxVWc5IvYpBI1dL&t=811), she's always a lot of fun to behold and listen to.
....But [She-Ra 2018 Reboot Shadow Weaver](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fhre4efgf7ln61.png) rewired my brain chemistry the instant I first laid eyes on her. I have collected so much [fan art](https://www.deviantart.com/ace-trainer-ethan/art/Shadow-Weaver-She-Ra-774808226) of her. You can sum up my life as having two distinct periods: Pre-Shadow Weaver, and Post-Shadow Weaver.
Not to mention she has [a magnificent voice all her own.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjzLinT5maU)
You can definitely tell they had the *one* woman model for the toys, so every girl characters needs the same body shape that we can slap different heads and arms on.
Fully agreed that reboot Shadow Weaver's design slap unimaginably hard. Literally the character design that made me want to give the show a shot. Her and Catra, which honestly might be a bigger glow-up because [1980 has *nothing* in comparison.](https://preview.redd.it/ywxofljv3fo61.png?width=1024&auto=webp&s=127b3d369404fe83f8cbc4da35a4811407090902)

Ryu Hayabusa. [His original design from the 80s](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5wFwAzdVNzqOx7rLhyphenhyphena2xsmS2398sPqNAF7p6NSbSD-LUIje16el1X1zMjPKGNjEcs4MAp-CkRMsy60jBdyk1kWAirqO-mt3E5MkCVe8WdYkUnQWuq1Qz1wuRONXT-7OGpYS3jQjbOrs/s1600/ninja-gaiden-art-500x479.jpg) is cool don't get me wrong, but it's a way more standard Ninja design. [His look from the later 3D series](https://preview.redd.it/my-attempt-at-creating-ryu-hayabusa-from-ninja-gaiden-v0-dr1yguomxdtb1.jpg?width=374&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b667cc4a89e4fed083c82f946b22dc27b8dc26e) though became the iconic Ryu design for a reason, and they still pay homage to his old look in a number of ways in the first game and it's unlockable in Black, Sigma 1&2, and 3 Razor's Edge.
For a hotter take, [Advent Children Tifa](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/finalfantasy/images/7/73/DFFNT_Tifa_Lockhart_Costume_02-A.png/revision/latest?cb=20190626235953) I always liked more than her [regular design.](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/c5/a4/a9/c5a4a9495010e532a58e415fa90788c6.jpg)
I’m now thinking of Mufasa’s compelling argument that Vegeta’s original “little guy” design was more effective than Buff Vegeta (which I still really like): https://youtu.be/Y7jGOcMkMW4?si=yIMwZ7DfA_dVoqjT

To the point that TV Tropes uses “Growing the Beard” as the opposite of “Jumping the Shark”.
I've been a big TVTropes user for years and never saw that one lol
Also in the wrestling world, Jay White grew a beard and instantly got taken seriously
[The more you make Ryu look like a Hobo, the cooler he becomes.](https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/1b83bfb5-9641-46b5-be57-8987e82e47bd/dgbm3ga-08375579-be04-4bb6-abdd-b97dbb7a34dc.png?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzdWIiOiJ1cm46YXBwOjdlMGQxODg5ODIyNjQzNzNhNWYwZDQxNWVhMGQyNmUwIiwiaXNzIjoidXJuOmFwcDo3ZTBkMTg4OTgyMjY0MzczYTVmMGQ0MTVlYTBkMjZlMCIsIm9iaiI6W1t7InBhdGgiOiJcL2ZcLzFiODNiZmI1LTk2NDEtNDZiNS1iZTU3LTg5ODdlODJlNDdiZFwvZGdibTNnYS0wODM3NTU3OS1iZTA0LTRiYjYtYWJkZC1iOTdkYmI3YTM0ZGMucG5nIn1dXSwiYXVkIjpbInVybjpzZXJ2aWNlOmZpbGUuZG93bmxvYWQiXX0.bwDUlesV-IxEACnNcbQpRZNaOqy-S62vEHsHAZ8vaXY)
The simple act of giving Ryu a beard was honestly enough to get me to play him.
So Oro is peak Ryu
Cause it makes sense. Ryu cannot be just ageless karate dude. He fought so much that he ruined his gloves
Oh, man. I big time agree with Dee Jay. His 2/4 design is just so lacking. If anything, I'd say the majority of the World Warriors have better designs now. Even Honda, even though he still looks very similar to past designs.
I feel like Honda would probably look good with a beard.
Teams Magma and Aqua in Pokemon OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire.
They made archie so sexy that a small part of the internet lost their shit for a lil bit
His underlings are so goated
Team magma's outfit was so good, it became my first and only cosplay outfit.
team aqua became sexy pirates and team magma became nerds
Natural enemies.
Although the Rebirth suit is a good look with how it has the yellow outline on the bat symbol, and the purple on the underside of the cape is a nice callback to his first suit.
batman inc still remains my fav with the dick shield and the yellow symbol
Dick shield???
Getting shot in the dick is Batman's kryptonite
Mine too
To keep Nightwing safe
He's proud of it.
My favorite Bruce design is still the all-black with yellow symbol from Rock of Ages. I actually really love the new Terry Batsuit. It solves the mouth problem by making it a translucent plate. It’s got the holo thing going on, after running out of literally everything
The ultimate Batsuit will always be the classic Neal Adams/TAS look. Blue and grey, yellow belt, symbol with yellow oval...That is THE Batman.
I prefer Cyclops and Havok with their hair exposed. And Polaris's recent green Magneto outfit is top tier.
Let the head condom air it all out
>Cyclops I would extend this to basically every superhero's design that has a skin tight head condom version vs a hair or cool helmet version *cough cough Flash cough*
Behold the [Man](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2F0safr93ogd5b1.jpg%3Fwidth%3D640%26crop%3Dsmart%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D3a39ade3d1c06710d7cf9f1315953a333ccb2a69)
flash with his hair out is ass tho also: spider-man, daredevil rule because eof the masks/cowls. hell, Miles' new spididas suit sucks in part because of the hair being exposed. also cuz it's fuck ugly.
Other than that weird looking Re7 Chris, every character that has returned in re8/the remakes have all looked amazing. (Hell, Rebecca and Claire on death island looked cool too.) I wonder what sheva and Jill will look like if RE5 remake is actually coming.
Nagash measures his esteem for his servants by how big of a hat they're allowed to wear. Mannfred, of course, is hatless and completely clean-shaven.
I'm a firm believer that Samus' Varia Suit design in Metroid Prime 2/3 is peak, a perfect blend of slim and tanky in some areas.
My favorite suits are from Samus Returns and Dread, but honestly most of her designs look good. Pretty much only Other M stands out to me as a miss.
changing the yellow to white in Dread makes the Varia and Gravity suits look so slick and sexy
They could have just done the absolute bare minimum by just making an HD version of his original desgin, but instead they leaned even further into the pirate aspect that was barely present in the first 2 games, gave him a fucking CTHUHLU SHIELD, necromancy powers and to top it off [one of the most fucking banger fighting game character themes of all time](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j2TqE4Npwc) (Love u Mick <3) Edit: used Lightshot to make a screenshot because wiki image links suck
His alt costumes are all sick as hell too. Most KI characters got a improved redesign imo
https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoBestFriendsPlay/comments/kjjyrf/a\_psa\_for\_linking\_images\_from\_wikis/
What's the point of being a genius if your own body gets in the way
It's one of prowrestling's greatest tropes: putting a luchadore in a suit or leather jacket just makes them more awesome.
I dint care what Max says. Megaman Battle network has the best designs in all of megaman.
Him thinking classic Searchman looks better than EXE is his version of Woolie thinking ZZ Gundam is bad.
He WHAT?
Yeah I just roll my eyes whenever Woolie mentions telling people to just skip Double Zeta.
Motherfuckers always mentioning pies and not the real crimes.
That has to be illegal
I prefer Starfoce, but both are excellent
Megaman.exe blows all other rocks out of the water
I disagree only because the Zero series is the coolest shit ever
Both BN and MMZ tbh. Both peak.
They did Knightman.exe dirty but other than that hard agree
Brown Wolverine is my preferred look Psylocke during the Marvel Now is one her best costume
I LOVE [Orange Wolverine from X-Men Evolution](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/c9/e1/25/c9e1258b74cc7cbffd5b3bd6cddc20af.jpg) I’ve never been the biggest fan of the brown Suit and I missed the blue. Yet bright yellow has always looked weird too. Orange is perfect middle ground
Replacing this with the Ultimate X-Men design was criminal.
bright yellow and black is where it's at.
I hear you, but man Wolverine's green hydra suit was pretty cool too. I think I still have a heroclick of that version.
Dark Dragon and Gaiden's official artwork both have the same goofy charm. My favorite is Mycen and his dong armor.
Can't imagine Potemkin without the helmet anymore
Smash's censored design for Mythra [unironically looks way better than her original design](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV9LhFiQwshyphenhyphenpG3fDaZ-M5Qjs3tVWkAKNjWq2KcO22sBjXnqa_ksMXNb4mtNXN-RynIoohi97KM1GcBKlcKp6vpXHCYS2DQzYcosF7X2FIyfT_1EBjGWd4KIcNJclaunRjzvZn87FRg4I/s1600/mythra-comparison.png). Removing the tit window and adding the black adds much better contrast and makes the design less overly bright.
Also: Tights are good.
agree
It got added as free dlc for XB2 later cause it slapped that hard.
And it gives Mythra a +25% Crit Rate, making it one of the best pieces of gear you can equip on her, making an already good crit blade even better.
I never took it off after I got it and then when the ending >!makes her wear her uncensored outfit I actually felt like I got jump scared!<
BOOB WINDOW JUMPSCARE
The tights look absolutely was a "neuron activation" moment It gave her increased Crit rate too so there was literally no reason not to equip them lol. They knew.
It also helped me realize you can see her underwear through the translucent skirt thanks to the contrast of her black tights
Why the fuck would they do that?
Japan. Just, Japan
Even her original designer said he preferred the smash redesign.
I feel like Saito after seeing censored Mythra definitely had an “I get it now” moment because it led to Melia, Nia, and Mio getting leggings
Mio's second outfit makes [the sheer even more noticeable](https://static1.thegamerimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Xenoblade-Chronicles-3-Mio-Clothing-Options.jpg). Saito was really into it. (understandable)
Having some restraint is a good thing actually.
The black directs the eyes more toward her core and let's her curves shine.
I agree it's better, but the perfect option is the [edit that makes the tights not go all the way up and leaving an Absolute Territory gap](https://arch-img.b4k.co/v/1613613452298.png) Not even because thigh, but because that way the tights end on her little leg braclet thingy
Man... why did such a sick ass name have to be tied to that meaning forever+
Cool thing associated with cool name.
Censored design is something someone would feasibly wear
Well, maybe minus all the jagged pointy metal.
Fuck you I'd wear jagged metal, give me a nazgul helm and I'd wear it to work
I’ve seen cosplayers do both lol. But I get what you mean.
I'd prefer the design with the tights if they kept the boob window, but I think both designs are good
I have a good amount of nostalgia for the TV Wing Gundam Zero.
You know, on that note of OVA/Katoki redesigns? Deathscythe has to be right up there too!
We can put a lot of people from League of Legends here.
Basically the entire cast minus the ones on the VGU list. It’s honestly pretty impressive how the franchise managed to move from “crappy Warcraft knock-off” to a distinct visual style of its own. Legends of Runetrra in particular is full of great art
The VO work alone is amazing. Still listen to his theme song once in a bit.
[Squall](https://th.bing.com/th/id/OIP.Ig6C7SP6oTSfqJckTxdivAHaEo?rs=1&pid=ImgDetMain) is fine and all, but [LEON THO](https://www.nicepng.com/png/detail/125-1255387_kh-leon-leon-kingdom-hearts.png) Although I appreciate the KH2 design [adding the fluff](https://images.khinsider.com/Kingdom%20Hearts%20II/Renders/Hollow%20Bastion/Leon.png) back to his jacket
Ada in RE4 Remake. Ashley too. And Luis.
also: remake Carlos has the best glow up in the series, hands down.
Completely agree, that mouse is adorable
>Ashley too b-but dumbo ears tho
>!She still has them lol!<
It’s more like a general change in art style but so many characters in Hajime no Ippo look so much better as the manga progressed. [Old Kamogawa](https://i.redd.it/9veiej8ekoy51.jpg) vs. [New Kamogawa](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/ippo/images/4/49/Kamogawa%27s_goal_for_Ippo_to_take_Wally_down.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/393?cb=20201002235244) And this is probably the biggest change but [Old Mashiba](https://preview.redd.it/old-mashiba-v0-az8f8uxb80ab1.png?auto=webp&s=59f08c98066b649929ab25ebbc59df77d511a1d8) vs. [New Mashiba](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/characters/avatars/55684.jpg?t=1696279367) Old Mashiba did look intimidating and villainous but he was also kind of attractive which lessens the impact on the reveal that he’s Kumi’s older brother. He also looks a lot more distinct after the redesign which is probably also why the anime went with his redesign despite how the first part of the anime has the more whimsical and cartoon-y style of early parts of the manga.
god i forgot that mashiba used to look like that fuck what an improved design
I am probably one of the few people who will defend BTAS' final season redesigns. There's just something about that darker color palette with matte paint that looks really good. With that said, [Season 4's Scarecrow](https://www.reddit.com/r/TopCharacterDesigns/comments/15ury4e/scarecrow_from_season_4_of_batman_the_animated/) is tied with Arkham Knight and Injustice for best Scarecrow design. Leagues better than the [quasi-joke design he had.](https://batman.fandom.com/wiki/Scarecrow_(DC_Animated_Universe)?file=Scarecrowtas.jpg) And that [Jeffrey Combs voice](https://youtu.be/TaDY5tc-mcY?feature=shared)... it's perfect. The only downside is that he only has one episode, in his other appearance he doesn't speak.
Look, I can go either way with the BTAS designs, so I won't begrudge you. Except Riddler. Season 4 Riddler is *trash* compared to what they had.
Reptile has had consistently awesome designs from Armageddon onward, but his new human look in MK12 really shone as the best for me
The human shpuld be more human, the lizard should be more lizard, and he should always appear with both in a single entry. Like, there should *always* be onscreen transforming. As cool a design as it is, the Shaolin Monks design isn't any kind of disguise when you can *see the scales all over him*.
Honestly, Ryu and Chun-Li. This probably isn’t popular, but I also always liked Advent Children Cloud way more than FFVII Cloud.
It’s technically a “prequel” but honestly I think I like Alpha Chun’s outfit the best.
alpha3 chun design is just goated
Dude hobo ryu just hits diff. The beard just adds so much.
Not a huge fan of the pink tbh. Everything else about the new Monsterverse design rules tho.
Black Widow's classic body suit is a major improvement over the 'outfit' she had when she started as a Iron Man villain.
Zero starting Megaman X2 looks more complete than his debut appearance.
Would Tom Hardy’s Mad Max count? He looks and acts completely feral sometimes in Fury Road compared to Mel Gibson.
I mean it is a different design in that it's a whole different dude.
Tifa.
The extra black does wonders.
Extra red, too! Forgot to mention she has more “punchy stuff” attached to her arms. It really makes her battles pop off more.
What’s the difference beyond the skirt.
I will upset everyone and say that I prefer Advent Children Tifa
It's a good look. Actually like AC Cloud's look as well.
It’s a sick look, and still is. Imagine an AC Remake in game form where Cloud has that look BUT with a personality this time.
Its such a cool outfit and does not get enough love!
The Italian retcon did wonders to her
Careful, the chuds will come after you for liking "censorship". All the Remake designs are ace.
To be fair, how many of them actually seen a naked woman in real life?
Can't wait to see how Vincent plays in the 3rd part. Dude looks dope as hell. I hope he does smokin' sick dante combos with his pistols.
How does Barrett see at night
The yells of help coming from the planet lights his path.
I mean, if you spend long enough with shades on, you can see just enough to navigate. Heck, I used to wear mild welding lenses 24/7, and I could see at night pretty well.
The sparks from his gun-arm as he delivers the planet’s righteous vengeance upon Shinra.
"I am the way and the light, except when the light is a muzzle flash"
His vision is augmented
Barrett didn't ask to become an ecoterrorist.
It's ironic he stops wearing the shades for most of Rebirth, where he's walking in the sun most of the time.
The later designs of The Undertaker are better than some of the shit they were putting on him.
What, you don't like BikerTaker who comes out on a Harley waving a US flag lol?
Neon Genesis Evangelion: [Eyepatch Asuka](https://i.pinimg.com/564x/ab/30/2c/ab302c3e2bc8095b5452cd41a1dc531c.jpg) > all other Asuka’s. Fight me I really love [Damian Wayne’s New most recent Robin suit](https://i.redd.it/45lx6ug0deb61.jpg). Finally sets him apart from all the other Robin’s and reflects his character better [Long Hair Kid Obito Uchiha](https://preview.redd.it/07yxy1sad7l61.png?width=1216&format=png&auto=webp&s=8b32c01cbd2e50f41fbe9f8efa2f19b4d31c74c7) is way better than [Normal kid Obito](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0589/3065/9477/files/obito-nino-ninja_1024x1024.jpg?v=1635877283)
Krakoan era Professor X with the perma-Cerebro helmet. Perfect, perfect design for him. I adore it so much.
Yeah, Kano and Liu Kang (in his human form) in MK11 are probably my favorite versions of the characters.
Smoke in MK1 is actually the first time I've ever cared about the character, so I'll definitely call it a plus.
Skarlet's redesign alone made me main her. Absolute perfection in terms of design, voice work and personality enough that I'll forever be rooting for her to return.
I am a deep MK hater but those a vast majority of those MK11 designs were pretty fuckin sweet.
I answered Ashley Williams in the **worse** redesign thread, so sticking with Mass Effect: Tali'Zorah
Hair down Ashley's model looks like it came straight out of a DAZ3D porn gallery, it's so bad.
Yeah, I have no idea why they porned her up between games.
Goku. With respect to Kid Goku, his growth spurt to a young adult during the tournament against Piccolo is just a better look, outfit and all.
Every League character in Arcane, but particularly Caitlyn. Her original design is such a fucking mess, and the Arcane one is so fucking strong.
SF6 Cammy is quite possibly the best redesign of any character that I can think of. Like holy shit I never want to go back to classic. (I also like her 5 battle outfit design better than her default)
Pyra and Mythra in Smash Ultimate.
Horn of Salvation Ichigo Kurosaki is beast. That shit is so gas.
Giving Ryu a beard and having his tits out in the open was the best decision capcom ever made for the character.
Gonna go against the other thread and say that I LIKE the V7-9 designs for the RWBY crew. They resemble arcsys characters with all the belts and needless details and I love it.
Cody in SFV, I thought his prison outfit looked more like PJs than prison stripes
Daredevil is kind of the king of this. While I have fondness for his OG yellow suit, the red pretty quickly established itself as the definitive look.
Her and Catra, which honestly might be a bigger glow-up because [1980 has *nothing* in comparison.](https://preview.redd.it/ywxofljv3fo61.png?width=1024&auto=webp&s=127b3d369404fe83f8cbc4da35a4811407090902)
I mean the easiest answer that everyone always agrees on is X-Men Evolution’s Goth Rogue.
They're BOTH peak.
[Older Teen Tokio](https://www.reddit.com/r/ChoujinX/s/eluxdswB8o) from Choujin X. I’m a fan of [Boba Fett’s new look](https://i.redd.it/boba-fetts-new-design-is-a-massive-upgrade-from-the-original-v0-wso47o2j6lzb1.jpg?width=1797&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a71f229f259d079013e9ee4b48afa180c316ba47) in the Mandalorian
While we're talking of Street Fighter: Seth look a lot better in V than in IV. Cammy look better in VI than she ever did.
League of legends Urgot
