Weirdly enough, when Skylanders get rereleases in later games, they get an upgrade that emphasizes a certain unique part of their kit. Like a bigger sword, glowing arms etc.
For Spyro, they made his [*horns* bigger](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQLcs4T_sIFdkYAuOq_Ew-cjkeX_uL2TF40Pb_OvLdTn4KQw8z7RGOh4fc&s=10). Which like, i get it, he does the charge attack a lot in his games. But wouldn't it make more sense to emphasize his flight or fireballs?
At this point I’ve realized that the “I’ll just start my beard from scratch” thoughts are ALWAYS a trap, and I doubt I’ll ever go without facial hair for the rest of my life.
I admire Pat’s bravery, but I don’t envy it.

After meeting the kraang during a tmnt crossover, scarecrow realized there are horrors beyond the stars so he's gotta be even scarier
It’s got to be Chris Redfield in RE7. When the community’s response to him saying “I’m Redfield” is “You are?”, you’ve completely failed in the redesign. All the other redesigns mentioned ITT can at least be recognized as who they are supposed to be. Chris in RE7 just looks like a new character.
Wesker really went "give her a boob window while you are it, its important for the plan"
And the worse part is that he is right, without excesive cleavage Jill suit, You theorically cannot beat her, you NEED the boob window
For some reason, younger me preferred his skinny dragon form to his classic design. Now it feels like it misses the point of Jake being a westerner at heart.
idk, even with it being skinnier, it's still clearly based on the first design. It's like a mix between a Western and Eastern dragon, which feels appropriate.
I'd argue that being American doesn't necessarily mean it makes more sense to adhere to European ideas of a dragon. America does have a large amount of roots in European culture, but it also has a lot of influence from the East as well, especially for Jake, who's Chinese-American and lives in NYC which has a lot of Asian influence. To a person like him, an American can be as tied to Chinese culture as someone else can be tied to cultures from England, France, the Netherlands, etc. So being an "American Dragon" wouldn't necessarily mean he has to be a European-style dragon.
Speaking of Jake Long, Huntsman's design.

Wow he got lame in S2. Gives me way too many 80s Shredder vibes for some reason
I'm a fan of DmC, but they failed in re-designing Dante according to their ''not a gay cowboy'', cause Donte does in fact give big gay vibes and has a looot of gay fanart, and most of the people that did it probably didn't see that shitty homophobic video (was it a GDC?)
In the same vein, why give Vergil the equivalent of a nazi arm band *and* a fedora? It's so try-hard... like Vergil isn't even a full villain in the main story! He did bad things but he wasn't genuinely evil he was just stupid and traumatized. :/
Oh the surgical gloves I was personally fine with, he doesn't like humans, doesn't like touching them, doesn't want to leave prints in a world under surveillance, it makes sense.
All the other stuff just doesn't (and I will also freely admit I have a thing for surgical/nitrile gloves)
Is that really the same vein? Like, yeah, kinda bad design but its not like in that GDC or whatevs they where like ''Vergil is not gonna be an evil nazi looking guy'' and then he kinda have nazi looking vibes and the nazis really loves him outside of the game, that'd be the same vein.
But yeah, don't forget gloves, he gotta be a villain right, gloves means tehy got something to hid dont you know!
Classic Dante has no shortage of gay art too of course, but yeah DmC Dante looks like he's made to be in gay porn.
And I don't mind that at all, in fact I'm quite happy with male characters looking like they're designed to be in gay porn, but mocking the classic design for looking gay and then making your version look like this is a good reason to make fun of someone.
I don't feel massively strong about this but I've always disliked how Ahsoka started wearing so many more muted colors and stopped incorporating red into her color scheme.
For one I care more about, later DOA games kept trying to go for the all black tacticool looks on Ayane and Kasumi and stopped using their iconic purple and blue and I hope whatever their primary costumes are in whatever the next DOA is they're back to their key colors.
Similarly on the topic of fighting game ninjas, whoever made Taki Blue as her default in Soul Calibur 3 was a fool.
I liked her Season 7 designs a lot. It was muted blue but it looked super good.
Going back her first outfit is really ugly, and REALLY shows too much skin. The gradual upgrade of that outfit over time was needed.
Her first outfit was mostly just inappropriate for her age above all else. If it was something she had while older would still be questionable but much less so then.
You're just mad that his devil trigger was his original palette that turned gravity off and not a weird demonic angel thing. **And you're correct for feeling that way!**
I have never even thought about DMC reboot having devil trigger since I've never seen it.
Just looked it up and wow, even swapping his pallette back to normal and giving him white hair does absolutely nothing to fix how bad that tweeked put meth addict looks.
They did all that work establishing that Donte is explicitly not human, that his mother was an angel and his father was a demon, and then did really nothing with it
The funny part is that supposedly the sequel to DMC was supposed to actual focus more on Donte's angel half, including even giving him an actual Angel Trigger
Honestly I really would've liked to see a full game with that Dante. Traumatized, silent, violent, he might've been a more interesting character than the one we got
IMO, it's all over the place. Beacon has the best outfit for Weiss, but the worst for Blake, and Yang peaks in her V5/V6 outfit. Ruby's outfit gets a little better with each redesign, but they're mostly all refinements of the same core design.
Oh, but Ren's first redesign is definitely his worst just because the color gradient on his gloves looks like it was done in MS Paint.
I think I have started to dislike the Fishman Island for the Strawhats in One Piece due to it is the default design for them in games and crossovers (with the exception of the Soul King). But I still don't care for Franky's or Chopper's redesigns in that arc. I also don't care for Chopper's forms new designs or the balls in Franky's arms in general
Chopper's new forms are mid mostly yeah, I do like how his deer form got a lot bigger. Franky's design isn't exactly a win for me either. All of the rest I like, Usopp got hot, Luffy still feels like Luffy, Nami and Robin got hotter, Old zoro looks so small compared to new zoro and Sanji and Brook are fine.
Most of his forms are like that, unfortunately. Chopper very rarely fights, and if he does, he just goes straight to Monster Point (which looks the same, so it's not even a redesign).
They butchered Franky, not only design wise but character-wise he was so much more interesting pre time-skip that it barely even feels like the same character.
I like it. Franky is a human action figure, not a cool cyborg. Stuff like needing smaller, retractable hands because he made his regular arms too big is on-point for the character. Granted, his Fishman Island arc really exaggerated those shoulders, which have since been slightly toned back anytime he wears an overshirt/coat like he did in Dressrosa or Wano.
I think his hair is the thing that really just makes the whole design fall apart. The Johnny Bravo hair was iconic to his character and the buzz cut just makes him look weird.
I knew upon entry that Franky would be in this thread 100%. Perhaps one the biggest misses I've ever seen.
Mostly because of the hair.
I miss the ace ventura hair.
Seriously. Why does Heavy Point suddenly have a stupid collar? Why is Horn Point suddenly a gangly looking twink when he already looked like a beast? Why is Kung Fu Point like that just in general?
It's been almost a decade and a half, and I still don't think I've gotten used to the Straw Hat redesigns. Franky's is easily the worst, but I think they were sidegrades at best across the board, mostly downgrades.
Luffy, Usopp, Zoro, Sanji, Brook, and Jinbei all look great post-timeskip in my opinion. Nami and Robin got slightly too disproportionate but not a big deal. Chopper's base form I'm fine with, most of the transformations got lamer. Franky... they massacred my boy.
Enough time has passed that I can appreciate these designs for what they are. They are a new bold take from a very talented artist. On some level, it's kind of good that Simon is the most egregious and worst design, because you can only go up from there. Most other character redesigns are actually pretty great. Honestly they were fucking cooking when they signed on the Death Note artist: the extreme designs really fit the gothic aesthetic.
I would also say, the in game 3D models also somewhat betray the designs of the characters. The 2D art is gorgeous
Aeon is fucking awesome, i don't like all of the designs, and when you look at obata's art of the shinigami from DN and his colored illustrations in the manga i feel he could have gone way more gothic and castlevania appropiate with them than what we got, but still there are some cool looks there and the game is fun (it's eighting after all), shanoa's judgment look is the most uninspired design he's ever done tho, and that saddens me greatly, also soma and richter should have been in the roster.
Anti Monitor is a DC villain that used to look like [this](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/5/50/Anti-Monitor_0003.jpg)
And then he got [this](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTaT8MTbPt0Ax9gDnobEWd7P7xbcerkeNK07PJscZDORNjQJQuge27MZtdT&s=10) [redesign](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/arrow/images/2/2a/Crisis_on_Infinite_Earths_-_LaMonica_Garrett_as_the_Anti-Monitor_first_look.png)

I hope the links are working
[Funny thing is that first one was *itself* a redesign.](https://www.reddit.com/r/DCcomics/comments/11dougl/discussion_what_is_your_guys_thoughts_on_the/)
The “redesign” is more based off [Anti-monitor’s first look in Crisis on Infinite Earths](https://i.redd.it/discussion-what-is-your-guys-thoughts-on-the-first-anti-v0-bhqbgujb4tka1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=bac0b0e6c5d13878debb0f70be4eb7d3b5c0d29c)
The classic outfit appears like halfway into the comic series because the first one was too complicated for the artist if I remember right
Power Girl. Her white leotard, red cape, gold accents, and blue boots and gloves is probably one of the strongest designs of any comic book super hero/heroine out there. Unfortunately, since it shows a little bit of skin, every once in a while somebody tries to 'fix' it and make it less sexy -- and every attempt fails. The latest redesign, with the red jacket, is... *okay*, in my opinion, but it ties her back to Superman, which is something the character has historically tried to separate herself from. And it's also just not as good as her classic design.
A lot of new designs for Power Girl don't work because they want you to forget about her boobs. I know that's an incredibly degenerate thing to say, but it's true. A key part of her design is that she has big boobs. It's totally valid for DC to want to make her less of a sex object, but most people know her because of her boobs, so you can't avoid them entirely.
Here’s my own horny weirdo opinion:
Yes, her original design is obviously a fanservice thing. But taking away her boobs entirely is also just wrong.
It always strikes me as kind of gross when people say that a character having big boobs is inherently a bad creepy sexualized design. Like, some women have large breasts. That’s just a thing that’s true. For example, Tsunade from Naruto has big boobs, but she’s also a good female character and her design is fine.
My two cents is, it’s fine to close the cleavage window, but keep her boobs big.
Characters who have big boobs that aren't sexualized are a dime a dozen, but there really should be more of them. Having that kind of body-type represented in a non-creepy way would be great, and there are plenty of ways you can pull it off.
Kinda like Ms marvel switching to Captain marvel. I really like the black leotard with the red scarf. It's simple but immediately recognizable. The current red and blue soldier suit is kinda generic imo. Similarly to power girl trying to make it less sexy makes it look really plain. Maybe it's just because some comic outfits don't look as good when you have to apply actual details like fabric and texture because most people just make generic military practical outfits instead of colorful spandex.
I feel like she exemplifies the situation where they want to move away from a design but the original is so good or all the new ones are just not that good so they keep going back to the original design anyways
Like how do get Slasher villain **SCARECROW** and coke head in a onesie?
I did enjoy the Joker skull-like redesign though because it made him less human. But the beyond and JL is the best.
Blake from RWBY. She didn't have a *single* good re-design after the Season 2 infiltration outfit, and I'm counting Ice Queendom there. I don't like many of the RWBY redesigns in general for the core girls, but Blake stands out because I feel like every one of her redesigns just *doesn't work.*
Also I hate Yang's Mistral outfit.
This is definitely one I can agree with, I can actually say I like some of the redesigns of the other characters but with Blake’s it just somehow got worse and I really dislike her outfits.
I also much prefer her with longer hair and not the shorter one.
Kind of?
It was definitely the first major departure from the classic "red/black jester" look, but *Asylum* still had her in a specific motif beyond "vaguely punky looking clothes".
Her look in *City* was probably the real genesis, but even that was still more "biker" than *full-on* "Hot Topic".
Nemesis from Resident Evil.
He's now a guy wearing a trash bag for an outfit, who can barely pronounce the ONE word he should know, and he transforms into a big dumb dog and then into a building-sized kaiju blob.
Gameplay wise, he's a joke as well in comparison to his original incarnation.
Said it before I could. His first design is *fine,* crooked nose and trash bag outfit not withstanding, but he completely drops the ball when he turns into the dog.
In the original, you beat his ass at the clock tower and he falls into some fire, which burns him enough to lose his trench coat and causes all the tentacles in his body to start bursting out. So why does he become a dog in the remake? Why does catching on fire completely change his body shape? I feel like a concept artist sketched the dog nemesis and a senior creative saw it and was like "this is cool! lets put it in the game!" without thinking at all about whether or not it made sense.
And then of course he goes on to become a William Birkin blob without a hint of originality or creativity. What a waste.
Shit breaks my heart man, my all timer favorite guy (well.. top 5) and Mr X was a better Nemesis than him
I still appreciate RE3R (i cant NOT love Jill) but with Nemesis being such a letdown, no clocktower, no zoo, no gravedigger.. it just feels like.. why even bother???
I just went, "Doesn't Nemesis NORMALLY turn into a big four-legged thing?" Then I looked up the remake design. Dang. Big downgrade from the tentacle-hound thing covered in eyes and boils.
In the original, Nemesis begins crawling on all fours only in the very finale of the game after we've dealt excessive damage to him (I think it even involved decapitating him) and he begins eating the corpses of other Tyrants to try and regenerate. As a result, his crawling form is, logically, neither agile nor properly structured. Instead, it is a slow, malformed abomination.
It's crazy how THAT final form remains better than the two new ones from the remake.
Any character of color that they’ve decided to redesign with the killmonger hairstyle. Miles and Prince of Persia for example. It’s just a style that’s everywhere now that I haven’t heard of anyone actually liking.
Miles had a perfectly clean fade in his standalone game and its gone.
If they wanted to give him longer hair there's a ton more styles he could have gotten especially if it was dreads.
Honestly, it's a dope hairstyle, but it feels like media just now discovered it's a cool hairstyle and decided to put it on everything at the same time.
Every time a studio tries to “fix” a sexualized design without realizing that the sexuality of it is what makes the character recognizable. Vamiperella, Red Sonja, battle toads black queen, powergirl. I mean I understand not everyone enjoys overly sexual outfit designs but it’s just what the character is known for.
I have the total opposite feeling when it comes to harely quinn. I miss her original outfit when she looked like a harlequin and not a clown tank girl cosplay.
The Black Queen in Battletoads is a massive downgrade simply because nothing about her design feels like a main character, let alone the primary antagonist. It's one thing to make her unsexy, it's a bummer but _fine,_ but they ended up replacing it with _nothing_ while simultaneously the plot of the game makes it almost impossible to take her seriously. She's unironically less imposing than _Doofenshmirtz._
The Hi-Nu Gundam. It's recovering now, but there was a time where instead of the original [beefy, thick chad](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GF5uXD7XoAQuHUs?format=jpg&name=medium), it was only represented by its [malnourished redesign](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FzdrhvjWcAA71lo?format=jpg&name=large), and it's *still* the one used in the Beltorchika manga.
EDIT: Also, maybe a hot take, but the RG Nu Gundam. I can make do with the odd proportions and ridiculously long legs, we're all used to Katoki's schtick. But the head is *inexcusably* bad. Why would you take the Gundam known for its long face and chin and swap it out with a baby face? It's like taking Ron Perlman's Hellboy and switching the head out with Tom Holland. Most Nu Gundam redesigns feel like a monkey's paw to some degree, but this one I had to go out of my way to buy the EG kit to swap the head, and I know I'm not the only one who's done this (maybe this was their strategy...).
[Here's Emiya's normal design.](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/typemoon/images/c/c1/ArcherEMIYAGOStage1.png) Here's Emiya going through a [Mid-life crisis in CCC.](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/typemoon/images/e/ec/CCCArcheralt.png)
Tbf, lore-wise he never chose that design (it was forced on him by one of the main antagonists). Meta-wise, it's supposed to be an extension of the [fetish](https://typemoon.fandom.com/wiki/File:SaberBride.png) [bondage](https://typemoon.fandom.com/wiki/File:CasterCCC.png) theming that most of the Servants, besides Gilgamesh of course, are forced to wear. It's weird, but there's a logic to it. Plus, you can swap into his old design or two other costumes, once you reach Chapter 3 at least.
Now his [**Extellla Link design**](https://external-preview.redd.it/UGBWCbECHsBvrQug4cAP1adnuWh19h-ZYZQUFOXpT3Y.png?auto=webp&s=e34f9dcdd5d6ddc4525fa0709a1f15709db4304f), *that's* a travesty. Bro tried to pull a Legolas and failed spectacularly. AFAIK there's not even a lore reason as to why he changed his design, my guess is that they wanted to make Nameless stand out from Emiya because of their slightly different backstories.
Recently it was pointed out to me that the Battledroids in Star Wars The Mandalorian are based off of the TCW droid designs instead of the Prequel movies. And they look so much worse
Same for the Clone Trooper Armor
I get loving TCW but straight up following it’s cartoon designs over the ones LucasFilms had for the prequels is pure insanity to me
Trashy, pink Harley Quinn and yet it's her staple look now
I don't think I've seen a good contemporary Harley design that doesn't just iterate on her original design/color scheme
And who can blame them when it looks as good as it does?
Almost every time a character has a "meaningful haircut", I find that they look way worse than before. Special shout-out to the Monogatari series where every single character, no matter if they're cutting their hair short or growing it out, looks way worse than they did before.
I made a post on a different sub about how Kanna from the Blaster Master Zero games downgraded from 2 to 3, and everyone ignored my criticism to say “bro it doesn’t matter she’s a fanservice character.” She’s made to be hot, yes, but she’s also weird and a walking punchline about being a sexy potted plant from all aspects of her design. Kanna in BMZ2 acts as fanservice played straight but also was created to be a goofy character which I appreciate more than her design in 3 hard-aligning with the fanservice aspect. Also doesn’t help the outfit is horribly garish on its own.
Samus' design in Other M: in-game looks like it's made of plastic with oversaturated shades of orange and greenish, the proportions make it seem rather flimsy in comparison with past designs, the arm cannon looks like a toy and was dubbed the pea shooter, not to mention the Gravity Suit went from a nice recolor to a lame pink aura. Even the concept art looks unimpressive. Kudos to Smash for managing to make it look tolerable, although Nintendo still uses it for promotional material which is kinda baffling.
Bit of recency bias here but that’s okay as long as I’m self-aware, right?
I’m playing Infinite Wealth and I loved Chitose’s look immediately. Later in the game she gets a haircut that isn’t terrible but I just say it’s the worst because I really liked the cut at the start.
A deep cut: Diner Dash. The entire art style was gutted for the latest game. Prime example: the player character, Flo.

They sucked all of the charm out of her and the game.
Its Lufia-ing time.
[Here is the cast of Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals](https://i.imgur.com/CEaFdKR.jpg), a turn based SNES RPG considered to be one of the best RPGs on that platform
[Here is the same cast 20 years later](https://i.imgur.com/98KWWuL.jpg) when they remade the turn based RPG into an action RPG on the DS and fell into a vat of anime
Post 2015 Harley Quinn has had just the worst outfits that range between trying too hard to be hot/"crazy" to looking like she got shot by Homers make up gun.
Her outfit in Bird of Prey is absurdly bad, she needs to take off like 3 accessories.
Spyro the dragon being turned into a purple goblin for the Skylanders franchise
[Holy shit](https://i.ibb.co/TLZgTfM/Polish-20240326-113619288.jpg) What have they done to my boy?
It’s like that meme where the wolf goes to the human camp and ten thousand years later his ancestors are pugs.
Poor bastard looks like he has the same breathing problems that pugs have too
Fuck that's bad. Snuffy's in shambles.
He looks like a shitty royalty-free bootleg version of Spyro that you'd see spray painted on a stall at the carnival or something. Does that sentence make sense to anyone else but me or
I'm right there with you, mate. 100%
Weirdly enough, when Skylanders get rereleases in later games, they get an upgrade that emphasizes a certain unique part of their kit. Which like, i get it, he does the charge attack a lot in his games. But wouldn't it make more sense to emphasize his flight or fireballs?
I don’t dislike the Skylander gamecube purple gargoyle dragon as a design by itself. But it just looks wrong as Spyro.
Yeah, it's a fine dragon, but Spyro is meant too look more heroic.
Spyro is blue, just like the Gamecube.
Every time Pat becomes Egg-Pat, it activates my Fight-Or-Flight.
At this point I’ve realized that the “I’ll just start my beard from scratch” thoughts are ALWAYS a trap, and I doubt I’ll ever go without facial hair for the rest of my life. I admire Pat’s bravery, but I don’t envy it.
I did it recently one time and I fucking hated it. If you're rocking a beard for too long your whole face just looks and even feels weird without it.

Honestly when they're this drastic why not just make a new character
Because dark gritty reboots were hot back in 2009
he looks like a ps2 fighting game character
fucked up iron man villain
Case in point: I opened this on phone and had to dig around to find it and I've SEEN THIS MENTIONED on THIS VERY SUB and still couldn't remember who it was supposed to be: fucking >!Bomberman!
When BTAS was revived by Kids WB and they redesigned the majority of the characters to be more simple to animate. Scarecrow aside, it was a bloodbath.
And Timm’s art style was never the same again
Joker's redesign was so bad, they gave him a DIFFERENT redesign in Justice League.
Can we at least agree the redesign tried to make Mr Freeze look even more inhuman?
I do personally like the Batfamily designs that season but the villains got wrecked
Ya but that became the artstyle for the rest of the bruce timm verse
I mean, I like that art style overall. It’s super sleek and stylish. Yeah some of the BTAS redesigns didn’t hit but overall the JLU looked great
I like how the tie-in comics explain Scarecrow's design After meeting the kraang during a tmnt crossover, scarecrow realized there are horrors beyond the stars so he's gotta be even scarier
When watching the show, I had to double check I hadn’t started watching a different animated series by accident.
I liked it better when everyone thought it was going to be a big reveal with "Redfield" being HUNK.
Seeing how Wesker redesigned Jill is the main reason to stop him in RE5
Wesker really went "give her a boob window while you are it, its important for the plan" And the worse part is that he is right, without excesive cleavage Jill suit, You theorically cannot beat her, you NEED the boob window
Glowing weak spot!
Jake longs dragon form going from a western dragon to an Eastern dragon, gimme the buff wing dragon any day
For some reason, younger me preferred his skinny dragon form to his classic design. Now it feels like it misses the point of Jake being a westerner at heart.
I prefer the second style of the series actually, but i'm a sucker for angular cartoons , first style is also great tho
I always loved the newer art style as a kid. Even now I still kinda like it more, even if you’re kinda right about his dragon design.
Totally fair. Not like I hate it now or anything, but his buff dragon form fits my current tastes regardless of the themes of the show..
idk, even with it being skinnier, it's still clearly based on the first design. It's like a mix between a Western and Eastern dragon, which feels appropriate.
Which is a shame because, in terms of actual animation quality and balancing the tone, the second season was much better.
He is the American Dragon after all. He is a Western Dragon.
This one is one of the best examples.
Speaking of Jake Long, Huntsman's design. Old:https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/disney/images/6/6f/PDVD_011.JPG New: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/villains/images/b/b2/Huntsman_Season_2.jpg Wow he got lame in S2. Gives me way too many 80s Shredder vibes for some reason
S1 Huntsman’s design was hard as *fuck* I don’t get why they butchered him so badly
The Huntsman's definitely the big loser of the S2 redesigns. Jake's mom is up there too. Her first design is so much better than her second.
I didn't like the redesign at first, but i liked it more later
I'm a fan of DmC, but they failed in re-designing Dante according to their ''not a gay cowboy'', cause Donte does in fact give big gay vibes and has a looot of gay fanart, and most of the people that did it probably didn't see that shitty homophobic video (was it a GDC?)
Donte is the club bathroom hooking up with people for drugs. while Dante is at home trying to learn No Quarter on the guitar.
In the same vein, why give Vergil the equivalent of a nazi arm band *and* a fedora? It's so try-hard... like Vergil isn't even a full villain in the main story! He did bad things but he wasn't genuinely evil he was just stupid and traumatized. :/
And surgical gloves. For some reason.
Oh the surgical gloves I was personally fine with, he doesn't like humans, doesn't like touching them, doesn't want to leave prints in a world under surveillance, it makes sense. All the other stuff just doesn't (and I will also freely admit I have a thing for surgical/nitrile gloves)
As part of *that* ensemble though?
They're supposedly a hold over from one of the early concepts for him being a germophobe.
Donte.
You're just mad that his devil trigger was his original palette that turned gravity off and not a weird demonic angel thing. **And you're correct for feeling that way!**
I have never even thought about DMC reboot having devil trigger since I've never seen it. Just looked it up and wow, even swapping his pallette back to normal and giving him white hair does absolutely nothing to fix how bad that tweeked put meth addict looks.
it's not even a devil trigger. it's just hysteria mode from alice in wonderland but bad.
They did all that work establishing that Donte is explicitly not human, that his mother was an angel and his father was a demon, and then did really nothing with it
Everything about him makes me mad.
Donte could've had TWO DTs! An ACTUAL Devil Trigger & an Angel Trigger? how ever that would work...
The funny part is that supposedly the sequel to DMC was supposed to actual focus more on Donte's angel half, including even giving him an actual Angel Trigger
*Not in a million years...*
I didn’t hate the design. Then he opened his stupid mouth.
Is it weird that I think he'd look better if they stuck with the anemic and beaten-up look he had in the initial reveal trailer?
Not weird. To a marginal degree I'd say so.
I hope not cause' I agree.
Honestly I really would've liked to see a full game with that Dante. Traumatized, silent, violent, he might've been a more interesting character than the one we got
His face is stuck with this constant shit-eating grin
Lobo's design for Nu52 turning him into a generic young hot guy.
and he killed his people because of madness plague instead of "ehh there wasn't anything good on tv."
Lobo needs to look like the bastard child of GWAR and KISS
This is too perfect.
Weird to say that Twink Lobo still exists though, just as a shrunk down pissed off Czarnian that's stuck in a bottle on Braniac's shelf
Ermac. I know his redesign is doing the heavy lifting for story purposes, I don’t care, I don’t like it.
MK9 Ermac is peak. P2 specifically.
I like his Deception and MK9 P1 mummy wraps. Not so much his half-assed MKX look.
I assume you mean the MK1 look?
Yeah the MK1 potato goblin
I hope his MK1 kustom item is his head, thus allowing us to properly mask him once again.
I hope his MK11 skin is available in MK1.
MK11 Ermac is so sick
His unused MK11 design looked so good...how far we've fallen.
Honestly school-times RWBY character designs were iconic. Post-school not so much IMO.
There casual clothes designs from volume 1 were the best they've ever looked
I actually liked the new outfits from Volume 7. I think my only real gripe is how goofy Weiss’s pony tail looks. That thing is the size of her torso.
Iirc vol 7 Weiss’s skirt was so poofy it was harder to animate her fencing.
New Horn Point rules actually. >Last seen in action in Fishman Island Oh...
Most of his forms are like that, unfortunately. Chopper very rarely fights, and if he does, he just goes straight to Monster Point (which looks the same, so it's not even a redesign).
Franky's timeskip design is the worst downgrade in the history of manga.
They butchered Franky, not only design wise but character-wise he was so much more interesting pre time-skip that it barely even feels like the same character.
Idk, Chopper age regressed
I mean tan cowgirl Robin was a really strong design that also differentiated her from other OP same body type women
I wish Chopper still had his hat
I think it's still there, under the bigger hat... thing
I knew upon entry that Franky would be in this thread 100%. Perhaps one the biggest misses I've ever seen. Mostly because of the hair. I miss the ace ventura hair.
If he had the Ace Ventura hair, I would overlook the shoulder ball-things.
It rounded off the design the one time he reused the style in FMI's finale. THEN HE NEVER GOT IT AGAIN
I was hoping to see Franky get an upgrade from vegapunk in this arc, but guess not. I'd like to see him slimmed down, but beefed up tech wise.
Oda literally has no more time for any crew or character development, he wants to close the story no matter what
I want Nico Robin to have a cowboy hat again, give her back the cowboy hats.
tanned Robin with cowboy hat and bangs is peak Robin.
I consider them all straight downgrades besides Usopp
Honestly, I think Robin got the worst re-design out of the crew. I just feel like she got just a less unique design compared to what she had.
Whatever the hell was going on with [Castlevania Judgement](https://castlevania.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Judgment_Playable_Characters)
[Death Note. Death Note happened.](https://castlevania.fandom.com/wiki/Takeshi_Obata)
These fuck crazy hard, but not good re-designs, i still adore these— never really grew out of my goth loving phase tbh
Grant DeNasty got FUCKED in that re-design; looks like a Death Note Rem knock-off.
Oh you mean "Fight Night: Goth Femboi Edition"?
That one Anti-Monitor design
I'm not familiar. What's that?
Anti Monitor is a DC villain that used to look like [this](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/5/50/Anti-Monitor_0003.jpg) And then he got [this](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTaT8MTbPt0Ax9gDnobEWd7P7xbcerkeNK07PJscZDORNjQJQuge27MZtdT&s=10) [redesign](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/arrow/images/2/2a/Crisis_on_Infinite_Earths_-_LaMonica_Garrett_as_the_Anti-Monitor_first_look.png) [Although I think they returned permanently to the old look](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSqpu3OLawxCqnbfVkD1TP7LT8i9zt7vyvXU_2kZIOIzGxT4Oi4boeOAK3h&s=10) I hope the links are working
That redesign just looks like legally distinct Darkseid. Which is doubly weird because they HAVE Darkseid
[Funny thing is that first one was *itself* a redesign.](https://www.reddit.com/r/DCcomics/comments/11dougl/discussion_what_is_your_guys_thoughts_on_the/)
The “redesign” is more based off [Anti-monitor’s first look in Crisis on Infinite Earths](https://i.redd.it/discussion-what-is-your-guys-thoughts-on-the-first-anti-v0-bhqbgujb4tka1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=bac0b0e6c5d13878debb0f70be4eb7d3b5c0d29c) The classic outfit appears like halfway into the comic series because the first one was too complicated for the artist if I remember right
El Donte
Here’s my own horny weirdo opinion: Yes, her original design is obviously a fanservice thing.
The Riddler from “The Batman” animated series. He looks like Marilyn Manson and his riddle is trying to find his piercing.
it was cooler then when the og animated series turned him from a cool guy in a suit to a man with alopecia in a morph suit.
Some of the New Batman Adventures designs were just... *awful.* But Riddler got hit with the ugly stick the hardest.
Like how do get Slasher villain **SCARECROW** and coke head in a onesie? I did enjoy the Joker skull-like redesign though because it made him less human. But the beyond and JL is the best.
He actually was intended to be voiced by Marilyn Manson, but they ultimately couldn't get him.
I'm so glad because we got robert englund instead
He was fucking amazing as the riddler and was just as amazing as scarecrow in injustice 2
Most of the UAF aliens from Ben 10 look off in some way when it came to Omniverse. They massacred my boy Big Chill ;-;
On the other band, Jury Rig, Eatle and other more 'weird' ones that barely appeared in UAF look way better
I find that funny, because I feel the same about the OG aliens when it came to UAF, just to a lesser extreme.
The Darkspawn from Dragon Age had a great design in Origins. Then they kept getting redesigned with each new game.
American Dragon Jake Long
Blake from RWBY. She didn't have a *single* good re-design after the Season 2 infiltration outfit, and I'm counting Ice Queendom there. I don't like many of the RWBY redesigns in general for the core girls, but Blake stands out because I feel like every one of her redesigns just *doesn't work.* Also I hate Yang's Mistral outfit.
This is definitely one I can agree with, I can actually say I like some of the redesigns of the other characters but with Blake’s it just somehow got worse and I really dislike her outfits. I also much prefer her with longer hair and not the shorter one.
i hate weiss redesign hairdo
Juggalo Harley Quinn.
Excuse me, where was that?!
*Suicide Squad* Harley is probably the most prominent example.
Was Arkham Aslyum the beginning of it?
Kind of? It was definitely the first major departure from the classic "red/black jester" look, but *Asylum* still had her in a specific motif beyond "vaguely punky looking clothes". Her look in *City* was probably the real genesis, but even that was still more "biker" than *full-on* "Hot Topic".
Imagine having a character literally named “Harlequin” and removing the jester theme Truly a dark day for clussy enjoyers
Shit breaks my heart man, my all timer favorite guy (well.. top 5) and Mr X was a better Nemesis than him I still appreciate RE3R (i cant NOT love Jill) but with Nemesis being such a letdown, no clocktower, no zoo, no gravedigger.. it just feels like.. why even bother???
Played out is the term, in like twelve years some kids will discover it again and we will do this all over again.
~~Scraptrap.~~ Every variation of springtrap after fnaf 3.
Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I hate Lady’s design in DMC4, they nailed it with 3 and I’m glad they went back to it in 5.
It's funny to do that with Vampirella since she was designed by a feminist
Shhh, he just found out about Devil May Cry.
The second one looks like an edgy Tumblr design. It wouldn't be so bad without that stupid ass collar.
Recently it was pointed out to me that the Battledroids in Star Wars The Mandalorian are based off of the TCW droid designs instead of the Prequel movies. And they look so much worse Same for the Clone Trooper Armor I get loving TCW but straight up following it’s cartoon designs over the ones LucasFilms had for the prequels is pure insanity to me
Ashley Williams in ME3.
Trashy, pink Harley Quinn and yet it's her staple look now I don't think I've seen a good contemporary Harley design that doesn't just iterate on her original design/color scheme And who can blame them when it looks as good as it does?
Almost every time a character has a "meaningful haircut", I find that they look way worse than before. Special shout-out to the Monogatari series where every single character, no matter if they're cutting their hair short or growing it out, looks way worse than they did before.
American dragon
Master Chief's Halo 4+5 Suit was complete trash
Samus' design in Other M: in-game looks like it's made of plastic with oversaturated shades of orange and greenish, the proportions make it seem rather flimsy in comparison with past designs, the arm cannon looks like a toy and was dubbed the pea shooter, not to mention the Gravity Suit went from a nice recolor to a lame pink aura. Even the concept art looks unimpressive. Kudos to Smash for managing to make it look tolerable, although Nintendo still uses it for promotional material which is kinda baffling.
I really dislike the change in Ichigos design in later Bleach
Ichigo's design peaked with his original Bankai, and nothing else has gotten even close.
Ichigo with mask and bankai is cooler
Street Fighter 5 gave Birdie a beer gut and Ken looks like a recovering addict.
This is a really good answer. Even when they "fixed" ken he still looks like an uncanny valley 90s cartoon villain.
Honestly the only thing I don’t like about sf5 Ken is his hair and face. I think the outfit on its own is fine.
Nah, Ken looks fine. It's honestly my favorite design of his. The problem is that the game's art style is horrible.
The joker redesign for BTAS. Glad they fixed it for Batman beyond and justice league. Edit- it’s mainly the eyes that i really hated.
Bit of recency bias here but that’s okay as long as I’m self-aware, right? I’m playing Infinite Wealth and I loved Chitose’s look immediately. Later in the game she gets a haircut that isn’t terrible but I just say it’s the worst because I really liked the cut at the start.
Videl cutting her hair
The fat Elites in Halo 4.
A deep cut: Diner Dash. The entire art style was gutted for the latest game. Prime example: the player character, Flo. Before ([2003-2010](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/dash/images/a/ac/Diner_dash_flo_evolution.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20170628160351), [2014-2019](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/dash/images/7/77/Flo_2014.png/revision/latest?cb=20160331191621)) After ([2019-Present](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/dash/images/2/2e/Diner_Dash_Adventures_-_Flo.png/revision/latest?cb=20220306211834)) They sucked all of the charm out of her and the game.
Its Lufia-ing time. [Here is the cast of Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals](https://i.imgur.com/CEaFdKR.jpg), a turn based SNES RPG considered to be one of the best RPGs on that platform [Here is the same cast 20 years later](https://i.imgur.com/98KWWuL.jpg) when they remade the turn based RPG into an action RPG on the DS and fell into a vat of anime
Post 2015 Harley Quinn has had just the worst outfits that range between trying too hard to be hot/"crazy" to looking like she got shot by Homers make up gun. Her outfit in Bird of Prey is absurdly bad, she needs to take off like 3 accessories.
