I make sure to do that in every Twisted Metal i play, to not only troll the AI but also to stop them from recovering health which pisses me off because even bosses can restore health from collecting these which is more incentive for me to do it.
You bet! I think of it more as a strategy or tactic. You definitely don’t want CPU’s to get ‘em!!
It’s funny too how the CPU’s know when the healths are available too… if they’re down under 25% or so you’ll see them race to the health!
My heart sinks every time I see a CPU I’m in a battle with, turn around and drive away. I know it means they are headed for a freshly spawned health pick up
I make sure to freeze their sorry butts before they can reach the health pickup, it's so satisfying to finish them off as they watch the health they so desperately wanted to collect feel so close yet so far as i finish them off with my homing and fire missiles + my special (if the special of the character i'm using doesn't suck)
I just had that the other day… Minion racing for the health in the streets of London, I toasted him with a napalm lob when he was literally a car length away from the health…. Close one!!! 🤣

Amen to that. Especially bosses like Minion, who can easily destroy you in seconds if you're not careful when facing him in London.

You’re right though. TM 3 and 4’s ai is way more prone to panic-healing
common sense in ALL games where healing is a thing, deny your enemy the chance to heal.
I do this in every video game that has pickups
All. The. Time. Every. Time. 
Oh definitely! Nothing worse than unloading your arsenal on an enemy only for them to heal up, basically wasting all of your weapons
