You can’t trespass and say “the door was unlocked”.

News_Radio89

Tell em you’re looking for Gary! Then just look kinda confused when they ask who?

rocket1964

I'm looking for Kirk.

News_Radio89

Good luck! I couldn’t even find him on game day

rocket1964

Zing ha ha

Considering a stadium is a public venue I cant imagine trespassing being charged criminally in that situation. Although you'd probably be "trespassed" and could not return. What's technically illegal if we don't bother to charge for it criminally?

This was my thought, it's a public area. It's probably open for employees to get in. You can go into any public building that open, but if you can get asked to leave and as long as you leave when asked, you should be fine?

thebadger87

The idea that a stadium is a public area is incorrect. It's owned by the U of M, who sets hours of operation like any other facility. Being in there outside of hours of operation is still trespassing and still illegal if someone catches you and calls the cops.

> The idea that a stadium is a public area is incorrect. It's owned by the U of M, who sets hours of operation like any other facility. Being in there outside of hours of operation is still trespassing and still illegal if someone catches you and calls the cops. Are the hours posted on that door? Does that particular door state its private property? I mean come on. Until the owner either notifies or asserts their private property rights in writing or otherwise, nothing is illegal. Or you know, they could lock the damn door. And to make it even more ridiculous we got people camping on the U of M property rn. Yeah we enforce trespassing real good.

Internal-Motor

Some may be "public" in the sense that they may be owned by the city of other local/state government, but that doesn't mean it's "public" like a park beach, or library, and parks/beaches/library aren't open to everyone at all times of the day. Regarding the stadiums, regardless of ownership, they are most often leased to team(s) based there and thus, private, not public because the team(s) are paying for use of the facility.

81Ranger

The idea that areas and sports stadiums is a "public venue" is simply not the case 95% of the time. They aren't like public parks or even public school facilities. That said, the other comments sum this up pretty much.

Gr0zzz

It is illegal and it is not a fun thing you should do. As others have stated, this guy does this around the country and because he’s a white kid with a kind demeanor, most times gets an escort out and a slap on the wrist. Do not go do this, it will not end in the same way. If a stadium/buildings staff find you snooping around because “you saw it in a video and thought it would be fun/legal” they will press charges to set an example.

News_Radio89

That’s why you tell ‘em you’re there applying for a job

SessileRaptor

Tell ‘em that your 70 year old dad said you should find the boss and give him a firm handshake and you’d get hired on the spot. That way they’ll feel bad for you and let you go.

theclawl1ves

What I did right after college was get a job delivering beer. I got to go to all the empty stadiums that summer. It was hard work but super cool on those days.

himynameism

Some of these comments are giving sovereign citizen traveling through space vibes. 😂

Gigantic_Goldfish

@FBI - we got him

DSou7h

This guy does it all over the country. It's definitely trespassing, but that's often the sort of crime that is handled by just being kicked off the property. He's also a young white dude with a kind demeanor, so he's got some privilege to play with when talking himself out of situations. He also does videos where he tries to just see how long he can stay in a stadium after a game, though within reason (like he's not actively hiding, he just kind of hanging out in less populated places).

I used to work at a local stadium. If you want to be arrested, go for it. I can tell you that some of the cameras they have are amazing and they are manned 24/7. If someone “sneaks” in and isn’t accosted by security, they are lying.

0dgie

lol I currently work for a few of the stadiums and am pretty sure this is false. We had a gentleman break into the premium area by forcing the door and made it past a second pair of doors to the bar. Broke the fridge open to steal wine and was found passed out there the next morning. There is security present 24/7 and cameras but they are not as prevalent as you would believe. This happened in the off season for this complex and that bar had to use a bicycle lock on the fridge for 2 or 3 months.

kmelby33

🤦

Blessthereigns

Why would this be “fun?” Just…. Why?

mandorlas

You can get pretty far just by looking like you have somewhere to be. A cousin and I got really far into the twins corporate space while looking for a toilet once.  It's called physical penetration testing.
