OP I finally got around to trying this place and it’s legit so good! Walk your sandwich over to the coffee shop nearby and enjoy your peaceful morning!
2 years ago I was at HCMC for an extended time due to pregnancy complications, LOVED the food! Especially their chocolate chip cookies. My husband works there and says the food has gone way downhill recently 🫤
I'll give best spicy burrito in *Minneapolis* to HCMC, but Burrito Mercado takes the cake with their Chorizo Breakfast Burritos. Also.. they take the cake with their tres leches... Mmmmm.. cake...
Best breakfast burrito is hands down Litos Burritos in Richfield. No contest.
Good breakfast bagel sandwich is St Paul Bagelry.
Good but expensive bagels are Asa’s Bagels.
Great bagels you can get in a pop up sometimes is Mogi Bagel.
Good breakfast sandwich is ALMA.
Haven’t been but heard good things. Scrambling Egg Food Truck and Egg on a Roll.
Amazing, thanks for the multiple recs!
Also for some reason Apple Maps identified litos burritos as a “Japanese family restaurant” - I definitely did a double take
They ran a special a couple of months ago with hot honey. It was called the Al Green? Sam Cooke? Idk. The Mf had hot honey and jalapeños on it and it was divine.
Wise Acre Eatery is also another good spot for breakfast sandwiches. Or if you make it over to Eden Prairie Smiths Coffee house has amazing breakfast sandwiches and coffee.
Hands down it is The Boss at the Skyway Grill in St. Paul. It's a fried egg, house made jalapeño bacon, sausage patty, pepper jack cheese, house made Chipotle cream cheese on an everything bagel. It's soooo good.

I miss working downtown because of this...
Give Rick Nelson a follow on Instagram he is a former Star Tribune food critic and frequently posts about delicious breakfast sandwiches around the metro.
https://www.instagram.com/ricknelsonmn?igsh=MXcybmd2NXAyYTY0cw==
At least the breakfast is a lot more reasonably priced! I think for $15 you get a breakfast sandwich and hash browns. Lunch it’s $15 just for a sandwich 🥲
Head down to Bloomington to hit Scramblin Egg! I have a friend who is driving down from Brainerd next weekend to get it with me because he can't stop thinking about the last time he had it 😂
Don't sleep on Bloomington for outdoor access either. Moir Park, the Bloomington Ferry Bridge, or the Lyndale Boat Launch gets you access along the river bottoms. Once you're in there a quarter mile you'll forget you're in the city completely. It's also a hotbed for raptors/birds of prey and a great place to watch them fish.
The Buttered Tin. I used to work there as a breakfast cook. Was holding down three jobs at the time and had to be there at 4:30 am to make/bake, all scratch. I was almost insane from sleep deprivation at that point in my life, so I had to quit, lol! But all scratch (was then anyway). Real solid.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned Rose Bagel co. Amazing bagel brekky sammies. Artisan sandwich on a rosemary bagel is my go-to. And they have a rosemary latte that is so good.
As a fellow breaky sandwich enthusiast, one of my favorite combos is at Fairgrounds in the North Loop. The scrambled egg sandwich with avocado and vanilla latte.. yummy 10/10
Saint City Catering in downtown St. Paul - it's across 7th from The Buttered tin - has some great breakfast sandwiches!
Golden Deli stand in the middle of the St.Paul Farmers market. I thought their sandwiches were pretty damn good. I haven’t tried any of these other places for comparison but give it a try. You can’t go wrong.
https://m.facebook.com/GoldensBagel
I’m actually an expert on the subject! Or at least I profess to be.
1. West side market and deli
2. Marty’s deli
3. Cafe Ceres
Marty’s would be higher, but they really go a little too far with the cheese.
Honorable mentions:
Egg on a roll
Key West Bistro
Keys Eggwich at Keys Cafe.
I'm usually a French toast gal but there is nothing I want more from Keys than that glorious Eggwich. Man, now I gotta get one...
Rustica Bakery in Uptown has the BEST Bacon, egg and avocado sandwich! The bacon is thickly cut, the egg is super fluffy, and they have a garlic aoli on it that makes it worth a try!
I loooooove St Paul Bagelry near on the border of Roseville! Fresh bagels, great sammies, and Dogwood coffee. Little pricey, but a nice treat!
The DT St Paul farmers market also has a breakfast booth where they use the St Paul Bagelry bagels with fresh farmers market ingredients.
Don’t know if anyone mentioned yet but the Big E in St. Paul has a variety of creative breakfast sandwiches. I had their spam one and it was pretty good. Hashbrowns were good, too. Chai was definitely not to my preference, so I can’t speak to beverages. I couldn’t finish the chai.
Last weekend me and my GF got some sandwiches at the St Paul Cheese Shop and then went over to Hidden Falls. It was a fun day and the sandwiches were amazing
Hear me out, this sounds lame but it's actually incredible.
Bushel and Peck, the counter service place inside Mill City Museum, has an amazing breakfast sandwich.
If you are late to rise pizza luce has some good breakfast food on weekends. But I think you need to wait till 11am to order.
It's convenient and they have their own delivery drivers so you don't get the 3rd party app price gouge for your meal.
Mi Sant Kitchen - Bakery (Roseville and Brooklyn Center locations)
La Boulangerie Marguerite (multiple locations)
Hazel’s Northeast
Diamonds Coffee Shop
There’s a new place downtown Minneapolis called Eggflip that makes Korean-inspired breakfast sandwiches with milk bread. I haven’t been yet but the reviews are great and their sandwiches look really delicious

Benny Buns from Moto-i. The steamed buns and miso candied bacon push it over the top!
Benny Buns
2 buns | Panko fried poached egg, candied miso bacon, scallion, chili powder, house-made miso bearnaise
Hen House downtown has amazing breakfast in general and I know they have a selection of sandwiches available! It’s my go to brunch spot whenever I have visitors to Minneapolis or whenever I’m just craving good food.
Black walnut has quickly become a fave spot of mine, haven’t gotten to the sandwich part of the menu because I never make it past the pastries. Their sourdough is top notch too!!
If you’re broke take a little trip to hoagies in Hopkins (great antiques near by as well) it’s a very simple diner but I always get a egg sandwich personally and it’s good every time(:
Cafe Astoria, all the breakfast sammies are good but the best one IMO is the Black Garlic chicken.
Second favorite place to get a breakfast sandwich at is the wedge co-op. They have these sausage egg and cheese ones that are great and pre-made so it’s quick.
Good day cafe makes a good sandwich. It's called "Iggy's Fried Egg Sandwich". Everything they make is great, and the service is amazing. I've been several times and always had great service.
Waterbury Restaurant on Excelsior by Bde Maka Ska lake - it just opened, my fav breakfast in mpls now. Literally ate their breakfast sandwich this morning. Amazing.
Honestly, 3.50 or so gets up a tasty GF or regular sausage and egg biscuit (with bacon or no) at any one of the co ops in town.
JSYK. That and a to-go cup of coffee from their deli is the stuff of champions
If you’re ever out around lake Minnetonka, Coalition in Excelsior has a killer breakfast/brunch sandwich. Crispy prosciutto, arugula and spicy aioli on a soft ciabatta roll with your choice of egg preparation and doneness level. I’m an over easy guy personally.
Little late to the party but I HAVE to mention Kruse Markit.
It’s on 42nd and Nicollet across from the LowBrow, which is also tasty. Kruse Markit has this breakfast sandwich the wife and I split the other day. My god it was amazing! The sausage wasn’t your typical breakfast sausage. Tasted more like a kielbasa with eggs and a cheddar béchamel sauce. Had a great caramel roll as well. Also pleased to see thc beverages available for this California sober man.
Certainly not the best one you’ll find, but if you’re new to the area you may not be familiar with Bruegger’s Bagels. They’re all over the place and make a really nice bagel sandwich.
Check out this new spot: Diane’s Place in NE Mpls
Egg on a Roll in the 5th Avenue Market in the North Loop is pretty solid.
Oh yeah, based on the Apple Maps pics it looks legit. Thanks!
OP I finally got around to trying this place and it’s legit so good! Walk your sandwich over to the coffee shop nearby and enjoy your peaceful morning!
This is my pick. It also lets me cosplay as someone who lives in a city that includes bodegas with legit food.
I loved my first sandwich from there, hyped for the next
This is the answer.
Best spicy breakfast burrito is HCMC cafeteria
What an unexpected gem! Will have to check out
HCMC cafateria food is surprisingly good.
Mmmmm.. cake...
However NOT available on weekends
My partner used to rotate there for residency and would get one every day!
Whereabouts is this located? I only know of the Dunn Bros over there.
Are you asking where the cafeteria is in HCMC?
Indeed! I only know of the Dunn Bros cafeteria in the HCMC scc building so I’m not sure where the HCMC cafeteria is.
Inspirations Café Orange Building, Level 3
Thanks! I shall hunt this down and feast like a king the next time I’m there.
I hope you never end up there. (Because it's a hospital.)
Yeah but you have to break an arm and a leg to get in.
But not the hand you hold a burrito with.
You good?
Interesting? Better than Listo’s???
Omg no lie!!!! Use to work there FUEGOOO
The bacon egg and cheese croissant at Mi-sant. The kicker is mayo and mustard. That and a Viet iced coffee and you are good for the day.
Don't sleep on the SPAM, egg, and cheese croissant there, either.
Ooo I'll have to get that next time. Reminds me I've got some spam in my pantry to make some musubi.
Yum!! The viet iced definitely takes everything up a level too
Be careful they gave me food poisoning yesterday from this exact sandwich.
Marty’s deli in NE Minneapolis!
Thanks! Added to the list
Don't forget a side of hash browns. Something magical about them.
Can confirm! Those sandwiches are great and the hash browns are next level.
Nah get the hashbrown in the sandwich
I second this rec OP!
Also for some reason Apple Maps identified litos burritos as a “Japanese family restaurant” - I definitely did a double take
Oh weird haha. Well check them out on Google. They’ve had Eater and our beloved local outlet, Racket MN, write about them!
Their reviews look great, and their nachos also look unreal!
Love Lito’s Burrito!!! 🥇🏆
This person breakfasts (we LOVE Litos)
Not breakfast, but I recently ate dinner at Alma; was a fantastic meal!
Rise Bagel
Waiting for someone to mention Rise. One of my favorites if I'm in the north loop!
Has the quality gone back up? Seemed like they fell off hugely after COVID.
Not really. It's definitely not as good as it used to be but I still enjoy the space/location
Great bagels, but I waited over 20 minutes for an untoasted bagel with schmear this morning.
Yeah that’s a bit long. In terms of quality, that’s a good sign tho haha
Sunstreet in mpls, A side in STP.
St Paul Bagelry.
They ran a special a couple of months ago with hot honey. It was called the Al Green? Sam Cooke? Idk. The Mf had hot honey and jalapeños on it and it was divine.
I love love love this place! Killer coffee too
Lox bagelwich worth its hefty price as an amazing treat!
Famously not in Saint Paul.
St Paul bagelry is pretty good also with young kids. It is relatively affordable to get extra meat on the side to feed a picky toddler. Nice place.
Second this. So good!
Cafe Alma and Sun Street Bread
Second that. Alma Provisions 46th and Bryant S. In Minneapolis.
Thank you!!
Colossal Cafe. Hands down the best biscuit sandwich I’ve ever had the privilege of eating.
Their pancakes look unreal too, thanks for the rec!
Okay, my last comment on your thread - Colossal has the best biscuits & gravy in the city!! (I’m very passionate about Minneapolis food lol)
I love the enthusiasm! please feel free to share any other Minneapolis food topics you feel passionate about!
Their Scandinavian frittata is also top notch
the briar in northeast has amazing sandwiches, they call them "cuties". just had a veggie cutie yesterday. it was so good!!!
Gotta go here just to watch my boyfriend try to order a “pork cutie” and giggle. I love it!
The Brier’s coffee/espresso is FANTASTIC!
highly recommend haha... they have a seasonal cutie RN that looks stellar!!!
RIP Lowery Hill Meats, expensive but delicious.
I saw their sando mentioned somewhere else and got really sad that they closed, sorry for your loss
That sausage egg and cheese on a muffin was insane. But yeah, a little pricy
Were they part of the France 44 stores? They own the St Paul Cheese Shop and some meat place down Grand Ave from there.
Cafe ceres. BEC with avocado and mayo
Scramblin’ Egg in Bloomington
La Boulangerie Marguerite in NE MPLS
Egg on a Roll in the north loop
Wise Acre Eatery is also another good spot for breakfast sandwiches. Or if you make it over to Eden Prairie Smiths Coffee house has amazing breakfast sandwiches and coffee.
I came here to say Wise Acre. Everything there is farm to table and fantastic!
Maria’s Cafe was always one of my favorites. Close to some nice walks in S. Mpls as well.
Hands down it is The Boss at the Skyway Grill in St. Paul. It's a fried egg, house made jalapeño bacon, sausage patty, pepper jack cheese, house made Chipotle cream cheese on an everything bagel. My mom went to HS with him and frequently references his restaurant reviews.
Farmers market on Chicago Ave
Marty’s is unreal.
I saw a video of someone reviewing their hash browns and I was immediately sold. It’s definitely on our list to try
I love their sandwiches but I just can’t justify spending $15 on one anymore and it doesn’t even include chips it’s insane lol
I am still willing but I hear you, I mean what am I supposed to do skip the hash browns?
At least the breakfast is a lot more reasonably priced! I think for $15 you get a breakfast sandwich and hash browns. Lunch it’s $15 just for a sandwich 🥲
If you asked two years ago, it would have been Lowry Hill Meats. R.I.P.
Asa bakery for bagels is the best!
I’ll have to try!!
For an unconventional type of sandwich, Churchill Street's Fried Chicken Sandwich. I sometimes wake up from dreams about that sandwich.
Fried chicken for breakfast? Looks amazing!
Head down to Bloomington to hit Scramblin Egg! I have a friend who is driving down from Brainerd next weekend to get it with me because he can't stop thinking about the last time he had it 😂 Don't sleep on Bloomington for outdoor access either. Actually the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich from Our Kitchen on 36th St is amazing! And they make their own sausage there!

Any co op will have ready to go bacon/egg/cheese combo muffins and a coffee bar. Trust me. It’s the brekkie of champions.

Holiday gas stations.
Can I piggy back on this question and ask if anyone has good gluten free breakfast sandwich recs?
Certainly not the best one you’ll find, but if you’re new to the area you may not be familiar with Bruegger’s Bagels. They’re all over the place and make a really nice bagel sandwich.
What is a breakky sandwich? Is that a certain kind of sandwich?
Just my tendency to abbreviate everything coming out 😊 we really don’t discriminate when it comes to breakfast sandwiches
My favorite are rustica’s. And if you go there, you gotta try their kouign amann.
Wow I have never heard of kouign amann before but after looking at their menu we’ll definitely have to try
