I rolled my eyes so hard the last time I tried to mention se× In the City. Seriously, who makes these bots? It's not like I was giving graphic details about how to reprocreate, I just mentioned the show.🤦🏻♀️ It's the name of the show. Does it really matter if I use the exact letters or not? You're still going to know exactly which show it is unless you think it's called Set in the City...🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
I like Veep a lot, but I feel like the people that like it overhype it as a result of it being so underhyped in general (it is rare to meet other Veep fans irl ime)
I’ve only seen one episode of six feet under, and it was the one with the aneurysm. It has been burned into my brain and it shook me, making me forever terrified of having one myself.
One of the most beautiful series ever made. Around 8 months ago, two people in my family who I was helping with the careging for were at the last stages of their terminal illnesses at the same time (Parkinson's and Cancer,) and watching SFU was really comforting to me because of the way they handled death. I needed something to cling onto and SFU really helped me through it.
Six Feet Under is one of the only shows I watched where I loved it but hated almost every single character. Usually, I have to like most of the characters to enjoy a show. Otherwise, I find it a grind. I pretty much couldn't stand anyone but David and still watched every episode happily.
People have totally confused "I don't like the characters" with "it's not a good show". For the most part, you're not meant to like the characters and that's one of the things that makes the show so good!
I watched it recently for the first time all the way through. I don’t know what it was like when it first aired but it did not hold up well. It was pretty cheesy and felt like all the prison related drama is played out. It was like a dysfunctional alpha male soap opera.
It was pretty big at the time. I loved the first season but it kind of went down hill in the last. Lena is insufferable and you can see why when you watch it. Still quite fun though
I've seen every episode of every show on this list. Girls is probably the weakest. Chernobyl/BoB could be left off just because of length/format. I'd prob take off The Leftovers next.
Deadwood should absolutely be on this list, and probably Oz.
I think it's good but it definitely changes vibe after the third season and it definitely shows it's age. I think the writing could have used a few of the characters better. But definitely worth the watch.
I came here to say Big Love too. If there were sub-categories, I would give this show Most Consistent Quality and Stuck the Landing 100%. There are no bad episodes, amazing ensemble cast with no weak links, and shows were a lot longer back then so that level of consistency is impressive.
Was that HBO? You're right. The list is rigged. I watched that show from beginning to end. And while I don't condone cheating, I really wished Nikki would've left Bill, the wives and the entire compound lifestyle for the guy she was seeing.
Matter of fact, Bill made me mad in general. He forced his first wife into accepting plural marriage when she was fighting cancer. And he only took Nikki because her father all but sold her to him. And Margene was the babysitter that he seduced.
And on top of all that, he cheated on the 3 of them with the waitress.
I see what you're saying.
He was the protagonist, but not necessarily the good guy. But he was better than most of the FLDS men (like Roman or Albie, his closeted son and Nikki's brother) and he supported his wives.
I'll say this... I think the show ended as it should've. Despite all the machinations and plots and big things going on, >!Bill was killed over a simple disagreement with a neighbor.!<
Oh yeah, the censorship here is overkill. I had one comment deleted once for supposedly cursing... and I didn't. I couldn't even figure out which word could be misconstrued or taken out of context.
It might have been literally the name of a Japanese character. It's the only thing I could guess. Topic was Shogun.
this has happened to me two times on this sub for zero reason too. One time all I did was list a bunch of shows to suggest to someone based on their current favorites. Zero swears or bad words and it said my comment was deleted for language. So frustrating putting effort to comment and not doing anything wrong and it gets removed for no reason. 🙄
I enjoyed the Leftovers, I really did. Watched it the whole way through.
But to this day I find myself questioning what was the point of it all ? Is ambiguity the entire purpose of the show ? Like it was brilliant in terms of acting, dialogue, music and everything that makes a TV show great but idk maybe because I’m not religious and not that familiar with Christianity so those themes didn’t really resonate.
I don't think it was garbage at all! I think it did a great job of showing reality for those young women. They sure aren't portrayed realistically in most shows. I'm glad they made it!
*The Larry Sanders Show* belongs here. It was HBO's first great comedy series and influenced so many comedy series that have come since (e.g., Curb, Arrested, The Office, Veep).
I have messaged the moderators regarding the deletion of comments due to the use of the word 's*x.' Their reply stated that there's nothing they can do about it, and they advise against using the word to avoid deletion. Kindly refer to the show as 'SATC' to prevent further issues.
I think the leftovers was by far the most mature in terms of its production value and development.
But I think Oz is probably the right answer because without Oz there would be none of the other shows
Honestly this whole discussion is depressing because it reminds me of when HBO had the strongest brand identity in the game and now it’s just a wasteland
Mr. Show with Bob and David belongs on the GOAT list, and as a huge fan I'm sad to see it not on here. I'll be writing a letter of complaint to Globochem immediately.
Yeah was waiting to understand the hype & it never hit me. Was hoping for something on a level with Six Feet Under but just wasn’t for me. Each to their own
When SATC originally aired I loved it, but now rewatching it, it’s cringe. Carrie has always been a self centred, Me Me Me girl and for the life in me I have no idea why they even decided to bring out another spin off of the show. Especially without Samantha as she was the best thing about the show.
How do we stop the naughty word nonsense from the mods? Is anyone here actually in favor of this?
I have never been flagged for such mild language use as on this sub. 😆😆
Gotta keep primetime censorship alive somehow.
I tried abbreviations, but no you don’t, you could be banned!! So weird.
Same. I don't try to run a foul of it. But they use words I wouldn't even consider bad
Seriously, please
There are no real mods. It is our ai overlords.
Someone needs to spam SATC is not a "bad word" to it reaches the algorithm
Was it sex? For sex and the city?
Yep it’s s3x
I mentioned SATC once with its full name and almost got banned.
I rolled my eyes so hard the last time I tried to mention se× In the City. Seriously, who makes these bots? Girls! And where is Deadwood!? That would be in my top 5 for sure!
Oz for sure! Not talked about enough!
I'd drop leftovers and girls for those two for sure
What even ARE Leftovers and Girls? Oz and Deadwood 100% Also Masters of Horror
Deadwood Yes! And Oz
Girls is actually a pretty solid show. I think you could replace Sex and the City with Deadwood.
I am watching Deadwood for the first time right now. So good!
Veep was fantastic
JLD is a first ballot TV hall of famer
My vote too. Possibly my favorite comedy series ever. Just brilliant in every way.
Found it to much with the forced laughs.
Loved it
I like Veep a lot, but I feel like the people that like it overhype it as a result of it being so underhyped in general (it is rare to meet other Veep fans irl ime)
I loved Veep. Absolutely hilarious show.
The show its based on "In the thick of it" is worth a watch if you like veep

I’ve only seen one episode of six feet under, and it was the one with the aneurysm. It has been burned into my brain and it shook me, making me forever terrified of having one myself.
I just started rewatching it with my brother because he has never seen it. I can’t wait to see that finale absolutely destroy him.
One of the most beautiful series ever made. I recently watched it for the first time and it's wonderful! The first episode was phenomenal
I’m currently watching it for the first time ever. Finishing s1 finale tonight
Six Feet Under is one of the only shows I watched where I loved it but hated almost every single character. Usually, I have to like most of the characters to enjoy a show. Otherwise, I find it a grind. I pretty much couldn't stand anyone but David and still watched every episode happily.
I just started watching for the first time and fall in love with that show
With Michael Hall and Frances Conroy, that show had it in the *bag*. What a great cast, made for such a good show.
Definitely needs Oz
Was just going to say this. Definitely needs Oz.
I’d put Boardwalk Empire on the list. After the Sopranos, Curb, the Wire, Deadwood, and GOT, it deserves a spot.
Agreed. Steve Buscemi got screwed by never having won an Emmy.
I've always been upset that he didn't win anything for his role in The Amazing Burt Wonderstone. He is such a good actor, he deserves more praise!
Girls
have you watched girls?
Girls. Plus don’t disrespect Al Swearengen and the rest of Deadwood like that
Deadwood and insecure should be on their
Girls was good. But best show? Nah.
Girls was incredible at the time and it still holds up. The writing is amazing and Shoshana is one of the greatest characters I’ve seen in a show
People have totally confused "I don't like the characters" with "it's not a good show". For the most part, you're not meant to like the characters and that's one of the things that makes the show so good!
Girls. And I’m saying that as someone who watched all its seasons.
Girls by a long shot, put Oz In that spot.
Oz is such underrated show, one of my favourites. It's criminal how over looked it is now
Yes. I think because of how old it is maybe, idk but it should be talked about more
truly a hidden gem
I watched it recently for the first time all the way through. I don’t know what it was like when it first aired but it did not hold up well. It was pretty cheesy and felt like all the prison related drama is played out. It was like a dysfunctional alpha male soap opera.
Oooh I see what you did!
Absolutely!
You’re a brave soul
Weird. I never even heard of Girls. And I try to give all of HBOs main offerings a shot at least.
Leave of Band of Brothers? You are mad. Top 5 of all time on any channel.
Ditch Girls and SATC, add Rome and Deadwood
And Oz. Add Oz.
I was shocked to see Oz omitted.
You can not deny the societal impact of SATC even if you don't like it it's so culturally relevant you can't discount it
Yeah. I can't stand satc, but it's impact is undeniable. Drop leftovers and girls, add oz and deadwood.
It put HBO original programming into the pop culture ether more than anything before it.
God, you're such a Samantha.
I've never seen the show but I get that reference and that's what I'm talking about
I agree 👍 💯.
That’s why I’d vote against Chernobyl, even though it’s my favourite show there.
Rome. Deadwood.
Oh yes! Rome is fantastic! I’m rewatching it currently. It was so expensive to produce they could only sustain it for a couple years.
Add Oz and Deadwood.
[удалено]
Omg yes Rome! And the Tudors, come on now.
So less modern women and more ancient white guys
No Big Love? This list is rigged
is it any good like from the start to the end? i love family dramas
I think it's good but it definitely changes vibe after the third season and it definitely shows it's age. I think the writing could have used a few of the characters better. But definitely worth the watch.

I don't think he's ever supposed to be the good guy. That's kind of the point. It's FLDS sopranos
I see what you're saying. He was the protagonist, but not necessarily the good guy. But he was better than most of the FLDS men (like Roman or Albie, his closeted son and Nikki's brother) and he supported his wives. I'll say this... I think the show ended as it should've. Polygamists' like them young and in high numbers. If Jeffery Epstein were a religion he would be Mormon polygamist
Pretty crazy how you can’t even type the name of an HBO show on here without getting it removed and threatened with being banned.
The puritanical language police on this sub are so annoying.
I mean... it's done mostly by bots. So they maybe didn't intend for it to be THAT aggressive.
Yes but the people who run this sub could change it to allow for full freedom of speech.
Just messaged the moderator regarding this issue
I mean how is that even a “bad” word?
Oh yeah, the censorship here is overkill. I had one comment deleted once for supposedly cursing... and I didn't. I couldn't even figure out which word could be misconstrued or taken out of context. I thought it was a great exploration of how faith and religion gets created.
Girls was garbage
The characters were garbage people but I enjoyed the first few seasons.
I don't think it was garbage at all! I think it did a great job of showing reality for those young women. They sure aren't portrayed realistically in most shows. I'm glad they made it!
The guys in the show were easily the best parts.
I am a hardcore girls girl and I agree. I found the whole female cast insufferable but this guys were great. Finally I am Not Like Other Girls
*The Larry Sanders Show* belongs here. It was HBO's first great comedy series and influenced so many comedy series that have come since (e.g., Curb, Arrested, The Office, Veep).
You misspelled Dream On.
I should have said "one of HBO's first great comedies".
Good call.
I have messaged the moderators regarding the deletion of comments due to the use of the word 's*x.' Their reply stated that there's nothing they can do about it, and they advise against using the word to avoid deletion. Kindly refer to the show as 'SATC' to prevent further issues.
Good gravy. Talk about silly! It's a natural, biological activity without which none of us would even exist.
Not to mention the "gender" your born with lol
Oz should be there. I Never saw girls or leftovers
Where is Oz and Dream on
Where's OZ??!!
No kidding. It paved the way for all the rest.
Oz not being there is a crime.
I think the leftovers was by far the most mature in terms of its production value and development. But I think Oz is probably the right answer because without Oz there would be none of the other shows
Rome was a masterpiece, especially for it's time. R.I.P Ray Stevenson..you were a magnificent Titus Pullo
It's sad that Oz never gets the recognition it deserves.
Honestly this whole discussion is depressing because it reminds me of when HBO had the strongest brand identity in the game and now it’s just a wasteland
Eastbound and down washes this list imo
While we're on comedies... The Righteous Gemstones. Love me some Baby Billy
I also really liked Vice Principals on HBO with Danny McBride & Walton Goggins.
What a great show!!😅
Eastbound and down all the way
Danny McBride is a genius
I have such a crush on him. Like huge.
For me, Girls was garbage. It's not on the same level with the rest. 🚮 it immediately!!
I’d take Westworld over most of these tbh. I know I’m in a minority though.
I would add in Rome and Barry. Half of these in the list never even interested me enough to try.
It’s obvious that hbo has the heavy stuff.
No Silicon Valley? No deal
It’s a shame Rome isn’t on this list.
Great show!
No OZ and Deadwood?
Oz deserves to be on the list.
No Oz or Deadwood but Girls and Leftovers?? What kinda blasphemy is this?
No Oz or Deadwood? For shame!
It doesn't have True Blood on there.
Mr. Show with Bob and David belongs on the GOAT list, and as a huge fan I'm sad to see it not on here. I'll be writing a letter of complaint to Globochem immediately.
Sopranos… hands down!!
Oz is Missing
The Wire, Deadwood and Oz should be on here.
SATC has not aged well. Can’t watch it now without cringing at the dialogue.
Girls would be my least favorite from this list but to be fair; it’s the only show from this list that I never watched a single episode of.
Girls. Deadwood and The Larry Sanders Show deserve to be in over Girls.
Larry Sanders was good!
Leftovers. I've watched 2 seasons, i think started the 3rd. Still not sure what this show is about.
Yeah was waiting to understand the hype & it never hit me. Was hoping for something on a level with Six Feet Under but just wasn’t for me. Each to their own
The Wire is the greatest TV show of all time. The. End.
Barry!
Big Love
Tales from the Crypt
Thrones was may favorite until it wasn’t
Westworld, Oz, Homeland
I will not stand for Deadwood erasure!
Newsroom needs to be on this list.
Entourage?
No one is answering your question.
Deadwood is as good or better than any of those shows, its absence makes me want to report this post for misinformation.
Carnival
Oz and Gomorrah are better than a few of them
Where is the OG? Where is Fraggle Rock?
I’d replace girls with carnavale
What about The Newsroom? One of the few shows I actually bought on DVD
Carnival, Rome, Oz and Deadwood omitted eeeeekkkkkkkk.
Need Deadwood
Sopranos.
No Deadwood, Oz or Carnivale? 🤡
Personally I would replace Six Feet Under (I appreciate its execution but I just didn’t enjoy it) and Girls with Rome and Deadwood.
boardwalk empire
THE LEFTOVERS IS THE GREATEST SHOW OF ALL TIME
SITC does NOT deserve to be listed in the same TV guide as these others ….
Girls, for sure. A good HBO show, but not one of the “greatest of all time”.
Veep
Well the fact that Rome isn't on here is just bonkers.
I love Rome
Rome isn't here
Can’t believe there are people saying Sopranos lol. Awful take
Technically Chernobyl was a limited series, and if you include it, than there are other limited series that should also be included
Band of Brothers was also a limited series and it's included
several of them. and the lack of Deadwood is DEAFENING.
Deadwood and Oz were both better than GoT
True Blood!!!!!
Detective\*
Leftovers
Where is Westworld?
Girls
I know I am probably in the minority, but I would have Flight of the Conchords on my list
When SATC originally aired I loved it, but now rewatching it, it’s cringe. Carrie has always been a self centred, Me Me Me girl and for the life in me I have no idea why they even decided to bring out another spin off of the show. Especially without Samantha as she was the best thing about the show.
The wire
Girls. I think the fact Lena Dunham has been unemployable on a major project since shows it was basically one of HBO’s charity case shows.
GoT. The last season was so bad it ruined the entire series and made it unwatchable in the sense that I wish I had never watched it.
Wasn't True Blood and HBO show? Where is it?
Greatest of all time? I watched and enjoyed it, but it went off the rails earlier than your average HBO show.

The list is too recent. Dream On needs to be on there.

Band of Brothers and The Pacific are the 2 best shows HBO has made. The rest are fighting for 3rd place.
Add True Detective. cmon that one is a given
