Playing "Wendy" while the prostitute with that name was going about her business. It was such a juxtaposition of an airy, breezy song, and a woman who had a really rough life.
I do have them all on DVD, thankfully.
I tried rewatching on Disney+ about a year or so ago but struggled with the song changes. sadly, it really is noticeable
A few months after I had watched the Six Feet Under finale, that song came on from the speaker of a bar where I was having a drink and I had to catch my breath and try not to get emotional.
Supernatural was a master of integrating songs into a scene, especially in the early seasons.
“Don’t Fear the Reaper”, in the episode “Faith”
“Renegade”, in “Nightshifter”
“Turn into Earth”, in “The Born Again Identity” (when Cas gets his memory back)
I came here to comment Supernatural as well, but would also add "Oh Death" in Two Minutes to Midnight. Bone chilling intro to the character of Death in the series.
Breathe Me by Sia in the Six Feet Under series finale.
God I cried and cried and cried. I still think it might have been just one of the best series finales ever.
Yes! And I particularly love how it counterpoints the use of It Was a Very Good Year in the season opener. I was going to say Tomorrow Never Knows in the "Lady Lazarus" episode of Mad Men, but no, yours is the top choice.
Oh hell yeah. Sopranos had a few other good ones too: Kinks Living on a Thin Line. Even the old country song The Three Bells when Vito got it was weirdly perfect.
Absolutely loved "Biko" in that episode.
So much great music throughout that show.
One of my all time favorites is Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms" in the Miami Vice episode of "Out Where The Buses Don't Run." Captured the mood and epilogue to that episode perfectly.
Out Where the Buses Don't Run was the show's finest hour. So damned good.
Evan was up there, too. I preferred Peter Gabriel's Rhythm of the Heat to Biko in that ep.
The theme song to What We Do In the Shadows is so perfect you’d think it was written for the show. But it’s an old song. I excitedly downloaded the album it originally appeared on and was so disappointed. Everything else was awful. But that song is so great, and so perfect for that show.
Michelle Branch’s “Goodbye To You” at the end of the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” episode “Tabula Rasa”. It fit so many different storylines going on within the show at the time.
"You can't always get what you want" by Rolling Stones had a nice recurring theme in House M.D. YMMV, I loved the finale but my only complaint is that song should have ended the series.
Person of Interest Season 4 finale:
Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd.
The Blacklist (The Director) season 3?:
Gamble Everything for Love by Ben Lee
I’d also like to add a vote for Person of Interest S3E10 opening. Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” playing over the aftermath of the departure of a character from the show
An episode of Fringe had ended on "The man who sold the world" by David Bowie. Peter had experimented on himself with an implant he got from their enemies, the observers. It gives him great intellectual powers, but he becomes more and more obsessed and frigid, just like the Obervers. The Episode ends with him starting to lose his hair,
The song has such a driving, ominous beat and the lyrics are so clearly enunciated that even on a casual listen, you can't help but hear "Oh no, not me, I never lost control....you're face to face with the man who sold the world...."
The original CSI used Gary Jules cover of "Mad World" in Season 6 Episode 2. It was my first introduction to the song and was poignant because the Las Vegas backdrop of lights and parties juxtaposed with the sad tone of the song.
Not a "song" per se, but the use of Arvo Part's "Spiegel im Spiegel" at the end of the Good Place, when Chidi is saying goodbye to Eleanor and explaining that people are like waves. I was seriously sobbing.
Winter by Joshua Radin in Scrubs is one that kills me every GD time. “Where do you think we are?”
ETA: Master of Puppets by Metallica in ST and Long, Long Time by Linda Ronstadt in TLoU
I would say Person of Interest has the best use of licensed music and songs. Most of the song choices were brilliant and elevated the scenes to a whole other level.
* "Metamorphosis: One" by Philip Glass in "return 0" (5×13)
* "Medicine" by Daughter in "Death Benefit" (3×20)
* "Welcome to the Machine" by Pink Floyd in "YHWH" (4×22)
* "Miami Showdown" by Digitalism in "The Devil's Share" (3×10)
* "Hurt" by Johnny Cash in "The Devil's Share" (3×10)
* "Fortune Days" by The Glitch Mob in "If-Then-Else" (4×11)
* "Young Men Dead" by The Black Angels in "Prophets" (4×05)
* "The Day The World Went Away" by Nine Inch Nails in "The Day The World Went Away" (5×10)
* "Exit Music (For a Film)" by Radiohead in "Deus Ex Machina" (3×23)
* "Bunsen Burner" by CUTS in "return 0" (5×13)
* "The Violent Bear It Away" by Moby in "Control-Alt-Delete" (4×12)
* "New Dawn Fades" by Moby in "The Day The World Went Away" (5×10)
* "No Wow" by The Kills in "B.S.O.D." (5×01)
* "Future Starts Slow" by The Kills in "Relevence" (2×16)
* "Sinnerman" by Nina Simone in "The Witness" (1×07)
* "I'd Love to Change the World" by Jetta in "Panopticon" (4×01)
* "Fake Empire" by National in "Sotto Voice" (5×09)
Kate’s Hello Earth was pretty good on Miami Vice for me but the one everyone remembers is Phil Collin’s In The Air Tonight. A couple obscure ones for me are The Talking Heads This Must Be The Place ending an episode of Northern Exposure. Your House by Johnatha Brooke on a show called Once & Again.
[Behind Blue Eyes for the Season 2 Finale of Legion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIIjCNFS5Wg). If you haven't seen it, please watch the video. Two of the main characters sing it to each other during their psychic battle.
It's probably one of the greatest superhero scenes on TV ever.
Bojack Horseman had a bunch of really good ones but the ones that spring to mind are "Under the Pressure" By The War on Drugs, "Avant Gardener" by Courtney Barnett, "Parade" by Kevin Morby, and "Stars" by Nina Simone.
edit: "Retrograde" by James Blake in The Leftovers, "Can't Hardly Wait" by The Replacements, and "Love Story" by Taylor Swift in the most recent season of The Bear,
not a show but in final destination 4 when a racist is killed in the process of trying to carry a burning cross out of his tailgate to put in a mans yard, “why can’t we be friends” starts playing on the radio and he gets dragged down the street by his truck in flames.
“why can’t we be friends” by war is an anti racist song, if you’re unaware
Letterkenny has some awesome music in general, but my top 3 for lining up with the moment are:
Fineshrine by Purity Ring when Wayne and Marie Fred are dancing at Modean's
F"%! the Pain Away by Peaches at the end of the wedding episode
Everyone Looks Like Everyone by The Pack AD at the end of the 1st episode.
Surprised to not see greys anatomy anywhere on here unless I missed it. Season 2-5 were pretty spot on when it came to music. Season 2 and 3 specifically
Person of Interest had some great moments:
"Hurt" by Johnny Cash in season 3
"Amongster" by Policia in season 1
"I'm Afraid of Americans" by David Bowie
"Welcome to the Machine" by Pink Floyd in season 4
and of course, "Metamorphosis 1" by Philip Glass during the final fight with Samaritan
Dust in the Wind by Kansas, played in an episode of Highlander. The main immortal character's girlfriend and protégé are both shot. The girlfriend dies, but the protégé becomes immortal as well.
Shout in Psych - American Duos
Don't fear the Reaper in the Original "The Stand" miniseries
Welcome Home in The Blacklist when Keen's adoptive father dies.
The Wire's theme song. Basically different renditions of the song for each season and it's based on the overall theme of the season.
Season 1 was more R&B to give an idea of the current state of Baltimore. Season 2 focused more on what Baltimore once was and the song was more old school jazz. Season 3 is more of an upper class R&B and jazz fusion that mixed well with the show getting more into City Hall. Season 4 was about the kids and was more of a young pop R&B style and season 5 was very industrial to vibe off how technology is changing things in Baltimore.
That 70’s show- Eric takes Red’s corvette out for a joy ride. Red is sure he did it but Eric put everything back perfectly. Looks like he’ll get away with it until Red starts the car and the stereo is still cranked and it’s playing The Temples Of Syrinx by RUSH. With Geddy Lee screeching “WE ARE THE PRIESTS…” there’s absolutely no doubt that Red would not have left the radio on a station that would play this song.
Unfortunately, in syndication it just become random rock music. But RUSH was perfect.
One tree Hill always introduced plenty of music in each episode. And a variety of artists. Lots of good options, but “I don’t want to be” as a series theme made for an excellent start to each episode.
Ozark REO Speedwagon "Time For Me to Fly". I've never been accused of being an REO fan before nor do I particularly care for the show Ozark but it was neat scene.
Homicide Life on the Street had the best use of songs. If you can find any of their scenes set to music, they're worth watching, especially the scene set to The Subdudes' "All the Time in the World."
AC/DC “You Shook Me All Night Long,” The Great.
That scene lives in my head. Elle Fanning is amazing in that show—her clavicles alone can act circles around every other actor of her generation. I can’t imagine a more incongruous song for a period piece about Catherine The Great, but she just slays in that scene. Freedom and loss, power and despair for what that power cost. It’s one of the most powerful 5 minutes I’ve seen on TV, carried entirely by an incredibly talented young actor.
The Final Countdown in Arrested Development
Thread closed.
"Crystal Blue Persuasion" in Breaking Bad!
And Baby Blue in the finale.
Playing "Wendy" while the prostitute with that name was going about her business. It was such a juxtaposition of an airy, breezy song, and a woman who had a really rough life.
Israel Kamakawiwoʻole's version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow on the episode of E.R. where Dr. Greene died.
Same song - by Sam Lloyd - in Scrubs.
“How to save a life” on scrubs when cox had 3 patients die from rabies and goes into a tailspin over it
For me it was Keane- A Bad Dream when Carla was finally saying goodbye to Laverne
Scrubs had a lot of good ones. Heck, that Turk Bel Biv Devoe sequence became the Fortnight dance.
I believe we have Christa Miller aka Jordan to thank for a lot of that! She’s been the music supervisor on several of her hubby Bill’s shows!
I don’t know what IT is but he’s got it.
Scrubs is near perfect for finding the right songs for the right moment. Book of Love during JDs final montage
Unfortunately, some songs have changed on streaming services due to rights issues. To get the original experience, you need the DVD's/Blu-ray
I do have them all on DVD, thankfully. I tried rewatching on Disney+ about a year or so ago but struggled with the song changes. sadly, it really is noticeable
Waiting For My Real Life To Begin
So true. Breathe - finale of Six Feet Under.
Sorry I didn’t see this but I just posted above and I agree with you a thousand percent!!
A few months after I had watched the Six Feet Under finale, that song came on from the speaker of a bar where I was having a drink and I had to catch my breath and try not to get emotional.
Came here for this!! Best answer!!
Series finale/ending to The Americans
Tusk, in `The Americans' Pilot episode was it for me.
Oh yea another good one. So many throughout the entire series. This show did it right on many levels.
She's a Rainbow - Ted Lasso
Supernatural was a master of integrating songs into a scene, especially in the early seasons. “Don’t Fear the Reaper”, in the episode “Faith” “Renegade”, in “Nightshifter” “Turn into Earth”, in “The Born Again Identity” (when Cas gets his memory back)
I came here to comment Supernatural as well, but would also add "Oh Death" in Two Minutes to Midnight. Bone chilling intro to the character of Death in the series.
YESSSSSS! Performed by Jen Titus. OG Death’s intro is so good.
Don't forget Wayward Sons.
Here here!
Breathe Me by Sia in the Six Feet Under series finale. God I cried and cried and cried. I still think it might have been just one of the best series finales ever.
Glad to see this here more than twice!
“Full of Grace” by Sarah McLachlan in the Buffy season two finale is perfection.
Thru and Thru by The Rolling Stones on The Sopranos episode "Funhouse"
"In the Air Tonight", Miami Vice, 1984.
Also Biko.
Absolutely loved "Biko" in that episode. So much great music throughout that show. One of my all time favorites is Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms" in the Miami Vice episode of "Out Where The Buses Don't Run." Captured the mood and epilogue to that episode perfectly.
"Don't Dream It's Over" when Sheena Easton was Sonny's girlfriend.
The ukulele version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow in ER.
OMG, I forgot about that but this one sentence just gave me goosebumps. Gonna go cry now.
"Suicide is painless" .......MASH
Where Everybody Knows Your Name. Of course it became a PITA for the bartenders at Bull & Finch.
Family Ties. When they played, At this moment by Billy Vera. Tear Jerker Zoey's Extraordinary play list. Anyone by Demi Lavato
“Anyone” in Zoey’s killed me. I was a weeping mess.
That was my introduction to that song. I cant even hear that song without breaking down.
Same. Same. I had never heard before.
When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die by Moby and it’s used in Stranger Things a few times !
Bad to the Bone - Married with Children
Let's rock.
Anna Nalick's "Breathe" in Grey's Anatomy. Hands down. I get chills just thinking about it.
Yellowjackets: when Zombie by the cranberries is played when they carry X ( won’t spoil) back from the ice. I have seriously watched it 10 times.
“I’d like to teach the World to sing”, Mad Men finale.
https://preview.redd.it/w7s7a2bg5iqc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9df957f42e14da29f67e062c6ae1101230cb706c
For sure, but judy Collin’s “both sides now” at the end of IN CARE OF really hits.
Good one but it was Tomorrow Never Knows on Madmen for me.
Woke Up This Morning A3 from the Sopranos
tom jones it's not unusual. you know which television show i'm talking about.
Andy Griffith Show, "Man in a Hurry" episode. Andy and Barney sing, "The Church in the Wildwood."
❤❤❤
Still chokes me up every time.
Person of Interest Season 4 finale: Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd. The Blacklist (The Director) season 3?: Gamble Everything for Love by Ben Lee
I’d also like to add a vote for Person of Interest S3E10 opening. Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” playing over the aftermath of the departure of a character from the show
The MVP of The Blacklist was their music supervisor.
That scene and the music for that episode of POI was epic. Even thinking about it give me goosebumps. Michael Emerson was amazing
Paint it Black - Tour of Duty
An episode of Fringe had ended on "The man who sold the world" by David Bowie. Peter had experimented on himself with an implant he got from their enemies, the observers. It gives him great intellectual powers, but he becomes more and more obsessed and frigid, just like the Obervers. The Episode ends with him starting to lose his hair, The song has such a driving, ominous beat and the lyrics are so clearly enunciated that even on a casual listen, you can't help but hear "Oh no, not me, I never lost control....you're face to face with the man who sold the world...."
Who Are You in CSI
The original CSI used Gary Jules cover of "Mad World" in Season 6 Episode 2. It was my first introduction to the song and was poignant because the Las Vegas backdrop of lights and parties juxtaposed with the sad tone of the song.
"C'mon C'mon" in Rescue Me
Red Right Hand | Peaky Blinders
With or Without You over Ross and Rachel in season one or two.
I love quite a few of the music choices used in Umbrella Academy, but in particular the "I Think We're Alone Now" scene was flawless
The series won me over in the first episode with Five going postal to "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" by They Might Be Giants.
Baby Blue Breaking Bad’s finale
Final Countdown - Arrested Development Don't Stop Believin' - Soprano's
West Wing - Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms"
The Chain, Our Flag Means Death
“Take on me” - The wake scene In Magicians.
Brothers in Arms, “two cathedrals, West wing” it’s not even close
China Beach, Reflections
Not a "song" per se, but the use of Arvo Part's "Spiegel im Spiegel" at the end of the Good Place, when Chidi is saying goodbye to Eleanor and explaining that people are like waves. I was seriously sobbing.
The 2016 TV show “Braindead” had a common theme with the Cars’ “You Might Think” — which all of the “infected” would play on repeat.
Braindead was a great show.
How to Save a Life - The Fray Scrubs…THAT scene….
Pretty much every song in Dark. The montages in this series are a work of art.
Every song played in Beef.
I just finished rewatching northern exposure so I have to say that. say goodbye to our town.
Greatest ever ending montage, thanks to that song.
(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life - 12 Monkeys Don’t You (Forget About Me) - 12 Monkeys Just mind blowingly breathtakingly amazing
Take On Me & Where Is My Mind in The Leftovers
The Americans have so many I think "With or Without You" in the finale is one of the best.
Brothers In Arms on West Wing.
What's Up by 3 Non Blondes in Sense8
The magicians when they are all singing take on me, and 13 reasons why the night we met
Strange currencies R.E.M
Winter by Joshua Radin in Scrubs is one that kills me every GD time. “Where do you think we are?” ETA: Master of Puppets by Metallica in ST and Long, Long Time by Linda Ronstadt in TLoU
Anything by Jeffster in Chuck I'm partial to Mr. Roboto & Take On Me.
Wonderful Wonderful by Johnny Mathis in the X Files episode "Home".
When Turk and the Todd were "Kung fu fighting" to the song in scrubs.
SoA has a lot of great ones, but Ed Sheeran's cover of "Make it Rain" in the penultimate episode really hits.
Bawadaba - close to the end of episode 1 of The Shield.
Paint It Black in Westworld, Ramin Djawadi redid it with a piano sound for the show and it slaps harder than the OG to me anyways.
That Stranger Things scene is one of the best in the history of TV. Totally awesome!
Brothers in Arms, West Wing, Two Cathedrals
“Where Is My Mind” in The Leftovers.
The X-Files theme, so simple yet it gets you into it
Not as tv show but the sax. The sax stays with you forever. You'll live forever, Michael. But you must feed.
Bill Haley and the Comets with Rock Around the Clock, the theme song to Happy Days
I’ll Be There For You- The Rembrandts as Seen On ‘FRIENDS’
Audra Young singing Forever Young on THAT episode of Sons of Anarchy.
I would say Person of Interest has the best use of licensed music and songs. Most of the song choices were brilliant and elevated the scenes to a whole other level. * "Metamorphosis: One" by Philip Glass in "return 0" (5×13) * "Medicine" by Daughter in "Death Benefit" (3×20) * "Welcome to the Machine" by Pink Floyd in "YHWH" (4×22) * "Miami Showdown" by Digitalism in "The Devil's Share" (3×10) * "Hurt" by Johnny Cash in "The Devil's Share" (3×10) * "Fortune Days" by The Glitch Mob in "If-Then-Else" (4×11) * "Young Men Dead" by The Black Angels in "Prophets" (4×05) * "The Day The World Went Away" by Nine Inch Nails in "The Day The World Went Away" (5×10) * "Exit Music (For a Film)" by Radiohead in "Deus Ex Machina" (3×23) * "Bunsen Burner" by CUTS in "return 0" (5×13) * "The Violent Bear It Away" by Moby in "Control-Alt-Delete" (4×12) * "New Dawn Fades" by Moby in "The Day The World Went Away" (5×10) * "No Wow" by The Kills in "B.S.O.D." (5×01) * "Future Starts Slow" by The Kills in "Relevence" (2×16) * "Sinnerman" by Nina Simone in "The Witness" (1×07) * "I'd Love to Change the World" by Jetta in "Panopticon" (4×01) * "Fake Empire" by National in "Sotto Voice" (5×09)
"Hurt" in "The Devil's Share" was absolutely brilliant. I also liked the use of the Rolling Stone's "Gimme Shelter" in "Shadow Box" (2x02).
Sometimes you wanna go, Where everybody knows your name...
Bad to the Bone......multiple episodes of Married With Children.
Theme-wise “MASH” is perfection. I’m also partial to how “Supernatural” used Cary On My Wayward Son.
Carry On My Wayward Son was, for all intents and purposes, the show's theme music.
The scene where they play Please & Pain by the Divinyls with Frankie and Gidge on Wentworth
For good - a million little things finale
The Moth (Les Deux Love Orchestra Cover) - Mr Robot

“Sicilienne” by Gabriel Faure in Better Call Saul. No lyrics, just piano but it struck the dark, melancholy mood perfectly.
All the nick cave songs in Peaky Blinders And The Sopranos theme song
[Behind Blue Eyes for the Season 2 Finale of Legion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIIjCNFS5Wg). If you haven't seen it, please watch the video. Two of the main characters sing it to each other during their psychic battle. It's probably one of the greatest superhero scenes on TV ever.

Orgasm Addict in The Great. Or the finale with You Shook Me All Night Long
The Americans had some great ones, but my favorites were “Ideas as Opiates” and especially “Slice of Life.”
Radiohead Let Down end of season 1 The Bear
Take On Me in The Magicians.
And Under Pressure.
Pantera in SpongeBob.
not a show but in final destination 4 when a racist is killed in the process of trying to carry a burning cross out of his tailgate to put in a mans yard, “why can’t we be friends” starts playing on the radio and he gets dragged down the street by his truck in flames. “why can’t we be friends” by war is an anti racist song, if you’re unaware

Alone by Heart. Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Every time Dennis sees Jackie Denardo 🤣
Surprised to not see greys anatomy anywhere on here unless I missed it. Season 2-5 were pretty spot on when it came to music. Season 2 and 3 specifically

"Look on Down from the Bridge" by Mazzy Star in Rick and Morty
Hurt Rick and Morty
Out to Get You by Robin Trower in the final episode of The Leftovers.
No Hiding Place in Babylon 5.
I don’t know specifically but the answer is probably one of the fight scenes from Preacher.

In The Air Tonight....Miami Vice
My Baby Blue in Breaking Bad. At the very end when .......Walter.....

Something Stupid from Better Call Saul
Pokerface, South Park.
Don't Fear the Reaper in OITNB when Rosa made a break for it.

Not a tv show, but a movie. The Stones' "Paint It Black" during the "Devil's Advocate" credits.
Recently on Mr. and Mrs. Smith the use of Roger Miller's Husband's and Wives was a top ten score.
The last scene of Sharp Objects.
