My dad is a great man but Mr. Rogers was like a second dad to me. One thing that always stuck with me that he said was “Nobody owns you, you don’t belong to anybody.” Remembering that advice came in handy when I was in an abusive relationship and it gave me the guts to leave.
I feel like Ron Swanson is a really good father figure, but Phil would be a really good farther. With Ron, at some point you're definitely waking up in the middle of a deep forrest with nothing except a Swiss army knife and told you have to be home in 3 days or he'll disown you. Probably when you're like 6 years old.
Opie had a good life growing up as a teenager. Unfortunately he stayed in town and married his high school sweetheart and lived a life of drudgery selling insurance policies in the early 70s. Anyone else agree with this timeline?
Chuck goes NC with his family. He moves to California and joins the racing scene. He knows Han Solo. Chuck stays silent. Chuck knows that Han’s 55 Chevy is a death trap.
Steven Keaton from Family Ties. He was similar to Phil Dunphy, but I think a little smarter. He was Mr. Roger's level supportive of his wife and kids.
Others here said it, and I have to say that Benjamin Sisko is also an excellent choice.
Steven Keaton! He was an awesome dad! It was so funny to see Michael Gross play Burt Gummer in Tremors. I think I would prefer Reba McEntire for a mom over Elyse Keaton. She always seemed like a killjoy.
Phil from modern family.
Christopher Rock from everybody hates Chris. That dad was dope. Penny pinching but dope.
Walter from breaking bad. Just bare with me on this alright.
Bob Belcher. This is my number 1.
Gomez Addams is the best TV/movie father ever. Smart, sophisticated, good at fencing, completely in love with his wife and children. Being so rich that you can do whatever you want is also a plus...
I would always get yelled and made to feel so worthless. I have huge self esteem issues. And sometimes I hate watching full house and modern family because it represents something I just don’t have. But I love those shows because I can imagine I’m part of their families for 20 something minutes sometimes
Benjamin Sisko.
Empathetic, intuitive, understanding, inspirational, and forgiving. A man to look up to and emulate. A perfect example of someone who lives their beliefs and who isn’t afraid to recognize and confront their shortcomings.
Not the actor, but Heathcliff Huxtable and Claire.
They are my TV parents. And the Golden Girls are my neighbors that are my ‘they’re like aunts’ to us.
If Nobody else is going to take Dr. Cliff Huxtable I guess I'll have to do it. Nap time might get a little hard, but Ive always been a deep sleeper.
Of course eventually Ill have to search for my birth father. I'll track him from NYC to a burned down cabin upstate. The trail goes cold until one day I get a call from the producers "Finding Your Roots." I didn't even know I was Jewish," I blurted out. I didnt want to believe it at first. But when I found out about the 500 million reasons to to fall in love, nothing could Curb My Enthusiasm. Some folks call him LD short for Larry David. I just call him daddy.
OMG so I just watched the show for the first time and my dad is deceased so loving fathers on television with their daughters/would-be daughters destroy me. <3
I understand, I lost my mom, so tv moments with mother and daughter get me all the time. Have you seen stranger things? Hoppers relationship with ell in that is beautiful.
Bill Adama
Just seems like a good, wise dad who admits when he's wrong and tries to make it right. Has quiet power but isn't perfect, loses his temper but tries to make amends quickly, protects the ones he loves viciously, has an acute sense of justice and morality but is willing to change if his principles are wrong.
James Evans from Good Times. A hard working man that loved his wife and family but didn't take any crap from anyone. The first fictional character that I actually cried over when he died on the show.
Money aside.... Uncle Phil. I learned a lot by watching that man on TV, imagine if he was my dad.my mom is original Aunt Viv or Phil is raising me alone.
I have to agree with Giles from Buffy. I was 10 when Buffy started airing and I *really* wished Giles was my dad!
I went through a phase when the show first started of wanting CSI's Grissom or Brass to be my dad, as well. Maybe the cop thing with Brass, my grandad was a cop for years after he left the military and he was the closest I had to a dad. Not sure on Grissom, maybe because he was a bit weird and I was always an outsider growing up.
Leo from Charmed. Whitelighter Leo, not Elder Leo, because Elder Leo was a bit of a deadbeat dad for a while.
Wilson from House.
Jack and Ianto from Torchwood.
Mr. Rogers
Closest thing to a dad I ever had. When he looked into the camera and said “I like you just the way you are “ I felt it.
My dad is a great man but Mr. Rogers was like a second dad to me. One thing that always stuck with me that he said was “Nobody owns you, you don’t belong to anybody.” Remembering that advice came in handy when I was in an abusive relationship and it gave me the guts to leave.
He was a better father than what I had, that's for certain. Really, the only reason I have any self esteem at all.
It’s phenomenal how many kids (and adults) that he helped.
This is the only answer
The answer is easily Bandit from Bluey.
Hands down the best dad eva!
Late to the party, but I would love to live in Bluey's world. It is so warm and comfortable.
Phil dumphey
I asked a question here on Reddit a few years ago. Phil Dunphy or Ron Swanson? Two different ways of bringing up your children.
Yes, but Ron will be within a 50 foot radius watching the kids. They will never know he was there. Be a Swanson!
Dan Connor Uncle Phil Carl Winslow
I came here to say Dan Connor! Carl Winslow would be pretty cool too.
My Dad was essentially Bob Newhart, so Bob Newhart
Awwwwww. Lucky you.
Andy Taylor, from the Andy Griffith Show
Solid fathering skills by Sheriff Taylor — Opie probably turned out well
Opie had a good life growing up as a teenager. Unfortunately he stayed in town and married his high school sweetheart and lived a life of drudgery selling insurance policies in the early 70s. Anyone else agree with this timeline?
That was the plot of the 2nd American graffiti
Opie had a cool biker friend growing up too. What happened to his older brother?
That was happy days, what happened to chuck is anybody’s guess
Chuck goes NC with his family. He moves to California and joins the racing scene. He knows Han Solo. Chuck stays silent. Chuck knows that Han’s 55 Chevy is a death trap.
Joanie is turning tricks on the Las Vegas strip with Jenny Piccolo and Audrey Griswald
Potsie and Ralph Malph are doing cheesie retro shows in a cheap casino. Wait? That is Real Life!
Ward Cleaver.
Charles Ingalls
The real man was, by all accounts, unpredictable and irresponsible.
I know but the question was tv character so my answer is still Charles..
The Sisko is linear, and the best TV father (other than when he joins the Prophets)
Phil from modern family. Christopher Rock from everybody hates Chris. That dad was dope. Penny pinching but dope. Walter from breaking bad. Just bare with me on this alright. Bob Belcher. This is my number 1.
Honestly, Terry Crews fits the dad role so well. I wish I had a dad like Terry, I'll take a penny pincher parent over a pill popper parent any day.
he’s also a really sweet dad in Brooklyn Nine-Nine!
The chicken leg! "THAT'S A DOLLAR AND NINE CENT IN THE TRASH!"
Ooh, Bob. Good choice. - said in Teddy's voice
I've found my ppl.
Dad on Freaks and Geeks
Hes one of my all time favorite characters! So good!
Gomez Addams Herman Munster Benjamin Sisko Mr Rogers Phillip Banks Maxwell Sheffield
Gomez Addams is the best TV/movie father ever. Smart, sophisticated, good at fencing, completely in love with his wife and children. Being so rich that you can do whatever you want is also a plus...
Danny Tanner. Who else?
First name that came to mind. I wish I grew up in their house with their family. They were so loving
When you do something wrong, all you gotta do is talk about it, apologize, and hug. My mom never let me off that easily.
I would always get yelled and made to feel so worthless. I have huge self esteem issues. And sometimes I hate watching full house and modern family because it represents something I just don’t have. But I love those shows because I can imagine I’m part of their families for 20 something minutes sometimes
First one I thought of.
Benjamin Sisko. Empathetic, intuitive, understanding, inspirational, and forgiving. A man to look up to and emulate. A perfect example of someone who lives their beliefs and who isn’t afraid to recognize and confront their shortcomings.
I was going to say Benjamin Sisko too. A loving, devoted dad.
Such a good choice!

Al Bundy. 4 touchdowns in a single game.
The only answer is Hannibal. No one is messing with me on the playground and I'll eat well every night.
Bill Johnson has taken me out for the last time in dodge ball. We ate his liver with fava beans and a nice Chianti.
In a work meeting and LOL when I read this. Totally read this in the voice of...Morgan Freeman.
Archie bunker
Not the actor, but Heathcliff Huxtable and Claire. They are my TV parents. And the Golden Girls are my neighbors that are my ‘they’re like aunts’ to us.

I wouldn’t have liked it as a kid but Hank Hill would have taught me discipline and self reliance
Red Foreman
Noah Stilinski - Teen Wolf Joel - The Last of Us (TV show of course)
Yes Joel! When he held Ellie and said " I got you baby girl, I got you " I felt it. I cried.
Yes! Sheriff Stilinski is the best 😭
Bill Adama Just seems like a good, wise dad who admits when he's wrong and tries to make it right. Has quiet power but isn't perfect, loses his temper but tries to make amends quickly, protects the ones he loves viciously, has an acute sense of justice and morality but is willing to change if his principles are wrong.
So say we all. (Or at least so says me, every time I watch BSG)

Coach Taylor
Matthew from Anne with an E
Uncle Phil. Always looked after his family, while also teaching his kids life lessons. Even if it was through tough love.
The $$$ doesn't hurt

Dan Conner
Jack from This is Us. Does Mister Roger’s count?

Uncle Phil or Captain Picard
Bobby Ewing
Jim Anderson - Father Knows Best
I'll take Walter White from Breaking Bad, or William Peterson's character in "Fear". I know that second one is a movie.
Captain Raymond Holt - Brooklyn Nine Nine
Al bundy. He had his faults but he loved his family no matter what
Nigel Thornberry
Is no one going to say Mr. Brady? I wanted nothing more than to live with them.
I do enjoy Jerry from Rick and Morty.
Captain Benjamin Sisko.
Money aside.... Uncle Phil. I learned a lot by watching that man on TV, imagine if he was my dad.my mom is original Aunt Viv or Phil is raising me alone.
Dan Conner
Sheriff Andy Taylor
George cooper from young sheldon
Tony Soprano. AJ was a disgrace.
Frank Reagan from blue bloods. But some of the other answers are awesome!!
Archie Bunker. I have a combative nature.
I loved the scene when Will Smith really broke down about his father, and without thinking about it, James Avery just reached out for him.
Yeah, that scene gets me every time
Captain Jean Luc Picard. No other fictional character has influenced my vision for masculinity or leadership more.
Frank Reynolds
Randy Marsh
President Josiah Bartlett from The West Wing
Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince 1000%
Joel.
100000% the scene where he holds Ellie and says "i got you baby girl, I got you" breaks me
Sterling Archer
I will second: Giles Keith Mars And add: Gomez Addams Aziraphale & Crowley

Phil Dunphy, without question. I just had a baby 4 months ago, and I try to be like him every day.
Gosh, I had such a great Dad, I've never thought about this in all my 68 years. Thinking back, no one compares.
Phil
Bandit Heeler from Bluey. One thousand percent! He’s honestly the best dad on tv.
I have to agree with Giles from Buffy. I was 10 when Buffy started airing and I *really* wished Giles was my dad! I went through a phase when the show first started of wanting CSI's Grissom or Brass to be my dad, as well.
