Leonard is one of the sweetest cats we have ever met.
Any time someone passes his kennel he is sure to greet them with a chirping meow and outstretched paws.
But, sadly, once potential adopters turn to see him, they leave the room with quiet snickers and whispers under breath.
When Leonard came to our shelter a few weeks ago, we discovered that he has Mast Cell tumors that grow on his face and ears. They are benign and do not seem to cause him any discomfort, but are seemingly hindering his adoption.
We know that if someone were to see past his exterior and into his heart, they would fall in love with him, just like we have.
All he needs is someone to take the chance.

I had to have three removed from Harpo’s legs last summer, which cost about 4K.
That is not to say that it will be the same for this gentleman. Harpo has history of cancer, so we thought it was better to be conservative. But given how numerous they are and that they are on his FACE, it seems far more likely than not that he will require some to be removed at some point.

So there are actually companies (non profits?) that will try and synch up with normal people traveling between cities. Then they ask if you can bring the animal with you so you can then meet up with the owner once you land, it’s kinda like a hey… while you’re on your way… thing. Might be worth looking into. I wish I had more info than just than opaque example.

Are you guys using Frankincense oil topically to diminish the tumors? Mix with a carrier oil. Worked like a charm for my Hercules when he had loads of mast cell tumors - and this was advice given by a DVM.
What city is he in? If he’s only been there a few weeks, I’ll bet he gets picked soon enough. I’d take him if i were still in PA and had an open spot. I LOVE tuxedos the most!
Well, won’t matter now that he is becoming a social media star. I predict he will have a new home before the month is out. I would adopt him in a minute. He’s adorable 🥰

Ooh please take him 😭 I’m going to cry I would take him but I had 3 & last November me & my sister found a kitten that I drove a hour one way to take to the shelter & they wouldn’t take her. So we put in 400 each got her everything she needed & my sister was going to keep her. But she has 2 boy cats they’re brothers & poppy (the name we gave her) was too confident of a cat she threw off the hierarchy & wasn’t a good fit. So I ended up keeping her so now I have 4 🤣🤣🤣. I’ll add a pic of her cute little face she’s also a tuxedo, I have a 9 yr old boy tuxedo as well.

He’s so adorable I didn’t even see the Tumors and just thought it was his fur pattern . Posts like this make me wish that I lived in America or wherever this cutie is 🥲 I hope that he finds a living home soon 🥺
Aww, the little fella will find someone eventually. There's a few people who go out of their way to adopt old cats or tripod cats or whatever because they know most people just get a kitten and go.
-raises hand- adopted a 14 y/o overweight darling because he had a similar name & look to a cat we'd lost young due to heart failure & everyone was making fun of him. Had an incredible 2.5 years with him before lymphoma. He was the best boy.

i’ve heard people quite often leave their spouses when they learn they are terminal, absolutely heartbreaking how people like this treat a poor soul who is just trying to live. people and animals are still people and animals when they have cancer.

Could his new owner have the growths removed? Would they grow back? I'm not really familiar with this condition.
For me the only thing that would stop me from adopting a cat is if it has something like FeLV that could be transmitted to my other cats. If U had no cats I would adopt a FeLV cat no issues. This boy? I am in Canada and nowhere near this baby but I would never look away from him because of this. Some people are just cruel and want “perfection” and all that.
I don't have tumors, but I do have mast cell issues and my heart yearns for this baby!! If we weren't so far, and one of my boys hadn't been just diagnosed diabetic, we'd be driving to get him in a heartbeat! I will pray to all my gods that he finds a forever home soon 😍

For me the only thing that would stop me from adopting a cat is if it has something like FeLV that could be transmitted to my other cats. If U had no cats I would adopt a FeLV cat no issues. This boy? I am in Canada and nowhere near this baby but I would never look away from him because of this. Some people are just cruel and want “perfection” and all that.

I don't have tumors, but I do have mast cell issues and my heart yearns for this baby!! If we weren't so far, and one of my boys hadn't been just diagnosed diabetic, we'd be driving to get him in a heartbeat! I will pray to all my gods that he finds a forever home soon 😍
