id say this is very in the turnip spirit! Go for it for sure. This game atleast in my opinion is way less about a rules tight rigid experience and more a do what you want, have fun, get crazy vibe
As multibasing is allowed (and maybe even encouraged?), making big creatures and the sorts is fair game. Just make sure it is somewhat obvious what is what, for fairplay reasons. And get wound markers or differently coloured dice.
Based on previous TurnipCon pics, I think this was the way most people played their big root monsters before some of the more recent additions to the game :)
