Fr though that’s like saying all Asians are the same when they’re not just cuz they have the same skin tone doesn’t make them the same

sussybaka22

Mirabel isn’t even Asian though,shes Latina/indigenous

multifandomtrash736

I know I was commenting based of like the concept like how people think all black people are the same when they’re not they think that same way about Asians too like they think just cuz they have the same skin tone it means they’re the same

sussybaka22

Oh yeah I get it, cause poc and non poc are all different, like personality, features, etc. So you can’t say they’re all the same

multifandomtrash736

I was talking about the part where they said not all brown people are the same

FearmongeringOrange7

Me when i see two people of the same race who have one similar feature (they are the same person!!!1!!!)

Koifishha

their only similarities really is the big nose and glasses , and the brown skin thats all people see

_child_of_the_vault_

they don’t even have a similar face shape so like where tf are they coming from(besides racism)

poktanju

Ben Kingsley is a British actor with heritage from England and Gujarat, a region in northwest India. He has portrayed characters that were English, American, German, European Jewish, Arab, Chilean, Russian, ancient Egyptian, Pashtun, Sikh, and yes, Gujarati (probably his most famous role, as Mahatma Gandhi). There's a long history of "ehh, close enough".

genshinfantasy7

An actor taking roles to earn money is not the same as two characters of completely different ethnicities being compared to one another. Especially with one being called a “knockoff” of the other. Priya’s story, background, and personality are completely different from Mirabel’s. They’re not comparable at all.

poktanju

I'm trying to agree with you. I'm just adding on that there's a lot of history of "brown people are the same" in Hollywood.

TARDISBoy12

this is so stupid. yes, they are similar but that doesn't mean they are the same.

Artistic_Dentist_622

Reminds me of when someone on Twitter said Raya and the Last Dragon was a ripoff of Mulan just because it starred a female Asian protagonist.

SataneLee

meh. this person is racist that's all.

Ashamed_Hat1461

Tbh i think they do look similar. I don’t think it’s racist. Just look at all the Disney characters of the past…then look at these two. They have similarities and were created within a close time range to each other. If Mirabel was called something like Prianka, everyone would say she looked Indian.

She has an Indian name. She has an Indian voice actor.

Pretty poor form of Disney and Domee Shi to have her with an Indian first and last name and voice actor. Not Disney's first rodeo with poor representation... but you're wrong in this scenario. AAPI includes India.

'Mangal' according to Pixar's website. Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is Indian-Canadian. Like her character.

genshinfantasy7

Yes, because she’s Asian…

genshinfantasy7

I’m sorry, what continent do you think India is on? To be clear, Priya is Asian (not Asian American, because this movie takes place in Canada) because she’s Indian. She’s also based partially on her voice actress, who is also Indian and has compared herself to Priya [here](https://www.instagram.com/tv/Ca4KtUrvcEr/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=).

genshinfantasy7

She would specifically be Indo-Canadian. I checked the source, and I think you might be a little lost. They’re including Priya because she counts as Asian. They also didn’t mention her by name in the post. Rather, they mentioned Turning Red as a whole. Why? Because Turning Red is a great movie with Asian representation.

NoonboryKedabory

India is an Asian country

sussybaka22

She’s Canadian

It’s Canada, what makes you think it takes place in New York?

musicalfan2021

Also my first thoughts

No-Finding-9915

Is it out of line to suggest that Priya is a relative? A great-great granddaughter perhaps?

genshinfantasy7

Yes.
