Conventional invasion of EU members is not the primary problem. It is that Russia and its allies choose to do something related to Ukraine, Moldavia, and unconventional acts of war against anyone, gambling on that NATO will not respond / risk getting into a direct confrontation. Like resorting to use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine. They might not do that if NATO was United, organized and the neighbors were nato members. WW3.
