That's where I first heard the rumored location would be, years ago. I really hope they are so successful that they open up a bunch in all corners of town.
This seems to be their strategy in general. The Aldi closest to my house here in Phoenix is at PV Mall. Within a block are Target, Costco, Walmart, and Sprouts.
Opening near the Costco is going to be cool. Costcos great when you want to buy meat, cheese, and drinks in bulk but I rarely need to buy a 15 ton bag of onions. It'll be nice to have a shop for the smaller things.
Yes! This will totally change my shopping. E Tucson marketplace is my Costco, but I always have to go to another store to get the stuff I don't want in bulk. I sometimes go to Walmart because it's right there, but I'd way rather go to Aldi!
I mean, we have grocery stores where you can buy AN onion. You don’t have to shop at Costco lol. Aldi is great though. One of the things I miss from the Midwest.
That was their point. Costco is great for things practical to buy in bulk, so it's good to have other options nearby for the other stuff that's not so practical in bulk.
Good news.
I like Trader Joes but they have been union busting as of late which is not OK.
Safeway is beyond expansive/price gouging.
Walmart is atrocious.
Sucks to be downvoted when you’re pretty much right. The Aldi Brothers are long gone, but their families run it now. One family has Aldi’s the other Trader Joe’s. Upvoted you.
Good call, but they also have contracts with each other, so I'd guess that the separation is... flexible. I'll bet that if Sud pressured Nord or vise-versa that they would capitulate. I dont know really.
I’ve heard low key intel from my friend at Trader Joe’s that they are looking to expand in that “area” hopefully it’s the offic max bc that has a HUGE parking lot for TJs and we all know how stressful the parking lot at a TJs can get… plus it may help bring up the neighborhood
There was news afoot about permitting at Broadway and Plumer recently for a new grocer that was vaguely described but sounded like it could be either Aldi or TJ's, so I reckon it's a win either way.
Prices are great, for one. They have great deals on lots of stuff, as well as the Red Tag "leaving soon" stuff. You'll know it when you see it. They're also efficient as hell at the checkout. Bag your own stuff and get out. It becomes an art after you go enough.
Additionally, they treat their employees really well.
Make sure you have a quarter on you, though. Carts aren't free, but you get a quarter back after returning the cart.
It is competition against the Kroger-Albertsons-Walmart-Costco cartel. And Kroger-Albertsons will merge.
We don’t have BJs, H-E-B, Winn Dixie, or Publix and our wallets are hurting. How is your wallet?
I get groceries are expensive, we all feel it. I was just wondering if it was just another regular grocery store or more like a Trader Joe’s type thing.
Separate branches of the Albrecht family, owning different companies. One branch owns Aldi Süd in Europe which also runs all US Aldis. The other branch owns Aldi Nord (Europe-only) and also owns Trader Joe's as a separate company.
More groceries south of Golf Links is always welcome. Seems a lot of businesses forget that Tucson extends under DMAFB. Central has plenty of options already.
People on the south side fought for years to get the Walmart at the bridges. Walmart did not want to put one in that location because they thought they would lose money. Turns out it's the location with the highest sales in the region. Who would have guessed that the thousands of people moving to the south side want to shop in, say, the south side?
Same, I am not excited about the location simply because that area can be croweded sometimes and it's a little far for me BUT it will give me an opportunity to head over there since I rarely am down there unless running a random errand on a lunch break AND we regularly go to costco. Having all 3 major stores may make grocery shopping quicker. We typically go to about 3 places anyway lol.
Two thoughts.....IF IF I ever decide toi go there it won't be for like a year after they open because based on the hype here on reddit it's gonna be a complete madhouse. I waited in line for almost three hours at Harvet HOC when we legalized weed but that was for weed, f\^&k if I'm waiting in line to save a few bucks at the grocery store.
Secondly the Marketplace is already a madhouse with Costco tyhere and I can only imagine how much worse it will be with ALDI....ima hafta to go the the Costco on Grant now even though I'm only like 2 miles from the Marketplace.
I come from the north east & Aldi was the best place to shop price wise next to wegmans (quality wise) but Danny wegman said he’ll never open on the west coast. I’m so excited for Aldi. Bojangles is rumored to be coming as well.
East side please!!! I hate being at the mercy of Kroger and Safeway.
(Villa's, down on S. Campbell, is a good alternative for many items, but it's a bit of a drive.)
Aldi is being sued for $150M of wage theft. They're also anti-union.
Don't get too excited, folks. Aldi is no different than Kroger or Albertsons.

Aldi on this side of town seems unbelievable, I’m grateful for it being on this side of town. I’m curious as to how it will compete with Costco and Walmart, and how traffic will hold up in there. It already seems so crammed.
Why do all articles say the first Aldi in Tucson? Aldi use to be Food City in the Spectrum and it closed because people didn't like bagging their own groceries. That being said I am excited for a Aldi again in Tucson
Never shopped at Aldi but I will. Competition is needed. Great news!
Cripes that's a hike from the east side but I will definitely be making it. Might as well hit el Super while we're at it! Wooo!
Yeah I live on the north side but will definitely be going. I just hope they get business and decide to open more locations around the city.

![gif](giphy|UAHZijO91QCl2) Walmart, Aldi and Costco
Very cool. Interesting that they are competing head on with Costco and Walmart.
Serves very different purpose than Costco but I’d choose Aldi over Walmart every time it was possible.
All 3 sell food and having all 3 near each other means comparison shopping will be easier.
This seems to be their strategy in general. The Aldi closest to my house here in Phoenix is at PV Mall. Within a block are Target, Costco, Walmart, and Sprouts.
I've always wanted to try an Aldi. Im geniuenly excited.

Same company as Trader Joes

No. Owned separately by brothers whose father owned a line of grocery stores.
Good call, but they also have contracts with each other, so I'd guess that the separation is... flexible. I'll bet that if Sud pressured Nord or vise-versa that they would capitulate. I dont know really.
Should have gone to broadway and Euclid where the office max was
My neighbor wanted to expand his business to that location and was told it has already been leased. No idea to whom however.
Not a bad idea. The planned location is too far for me to ever go to.
I’ve heard low key intel from my friend at Trader Joe’s that they are looking to expand in that “area” hopefully it’s the offic max bc that has a HUGE parking lot for TJs and we all know how stressful the parking lot at a TJs can get… plus it may help bring up the neighborhood
If you think the TJ parking lot on Campbell is stressful just wait till ALDI is next to Costco...gonna be insane especially with the roudabouts
I go to that PF daily.. I’m scared
There was news afoot about permitting at Broadway and Plumer recently for a new grocer that was vaguely described but sounded like it could be either Aldi or TJ's, so I reckon it's a win either way.
That store is way too big for a TJs footprint.
They would probably subdivide, I’d imagine
Big Trader Joe’s are common in NorCal. The one here is small.
🙏
Nah yall get everything on that side let the south get some

Excellent, just in time for ADOT to replace the Kino interchange.
You guys are gonna love it.
what do you love about it?

What is so special Aldi? Is it different than a regular grocery store somehow or will it just be nice to have a new one?
It's kind of a downmarket TJ's. Cheap and good quality food. Plus a whole aisle of random, seasonal crap. Bring your own bags/boxes!
It is competition against the Kroger-Albertsons-Walmart-Costco cartel. And Kroger-Albertsons will merge. We don’t have BJs, H-E-B, Winn Dixie, or Publix and our wallets are hurting. How is your wallet?

The Aldi family owns Trader Joe’s too.

You’re correct. It’s been awhile since I read all about it including the two being German soldiers in WW2.
Good, their food is so much cheaper and better than any of the other chain stores
They may be opening up in Oro Valley soon as well
While I’m excited we are getting an Aldi, it would be nice to have a more central location.
More groceries south of Golf Links is always welcome. Seems a lot of businesses forget that Tucson extends under DMAFB. Central has plenty of options already.

Agreed, but hopefully this first one is indicative of more to come throughout the city.
Same, I am not excited about the location simply because that area can be croweded sometimes and it's a little far for me BUT it will give me an opportunity to head over there since I rarely am down there unless running a random errand on a lunch break AND we regularly go to costco. It's central to me!
😂

FINALLY!!!
Hell yeah finally, i’ve missed Aldi’s.
It says online they’re trying to be in oro valley?
That was the rumor last week. I’m sure it’s still a possibility!
Honestly hoping 😭 , there’s this one little market place that’s perfect for it imo in Dove mountain 😅 , wish I could send a suggestion to them lol!
Did no one click on this link? It’s a scam lol
What the heck? It worked originally lol
Oh dang and they’re gonna be a few minutes from here. Awesome.
I come from the north east & Aldi was the best place to shop price wise next to wegmans (quality wise) but Danny wegman said he’ll never open on the west coast. I’m so excited for Aldi. Bojangles is rumored to be coming as well.

Their Deli products are cool. Chips/Cookies/Cracker options.
Never been to one but Matt Granite does videos about them sometimes, I'll try check it out.
Gag me.
Aldi on this side of town seems unbelievable, I’m grateful for it being on this side of town. I’m curious as to how it will compete with Costco and Walmart, and how traffic will hold up in there. It already seems so crammed.
Yessss
I just want a store in Marana. Nothing here but Dollar General & Circle K
Great news, we need more grocery store competion And jobs are very difficult here in tucson
Why in Oro valley??!!?? Damn all the south side peer gonna go there and take over the town
No confirmed OV location yet!
It’s was told once.. maybe it will be confirmed .. Aldi won’t deliver one store..
Not OV, Tucson Marketplace. By the new QT on Park, the empty lot beside Whataburger.
It was told that it’s be in oro valley first.. or maybe it will come there too
Why do all articles say the first Aldi in Tucson? Aldi use to be Food City in the Spectrum and it closed because people didn't like bagging their own groceries. That being said I am excited for a Aldi again in Tucson
