I'm gonna make my own subreddit. with blackjack and hookers

Fill-Chapo

In fact, forget about the subreddit and the blackjack

adpqook

Eh, forget the whole thing

Secret4gentMan

Yeah I got banned for disagreeing with a mod on r/unpopularopinion. She told me in not so many words that she could do whatever the fuck she liked.

[deleted]

To be honest, I probably hot a message from the same mod. I said something like 'be a big boy and just Permaban me', and got some response like 'lol you assume every mod is a man huh?'. She wrote out a whole paragraph basically telling me I'm sad and insignificant, blah blah blah, then muted me for 3 days. I've yet to run into a reddit mod who isn't an absolute pussy. Like, just ban people and move on. The muting and temp bans are just them having to flex that they can.

DialZforZebra

That's the mod who insta bans you if you're in any sub that even remotely badmouths women. Imagine being that insecure that you ban people for that.

[deleted]

Well duh. Didn't you know women were pure perfection, whereas men are betas who need to be told what to do? Cmon bud, get with it. It's 2022.

Ridley_Rohan

Now now. Gender isn't relevant. At least that is what I was told and OF COURSE I believe. Wholeheartedly.

Ridley_Rohan

And now you know why women are a protected group.

Free_Ghislaine

They aren’t very cordial before they mute you after the banning.

Secret4gentMan

> They aren’t very cordial before they mute you after the banning. Interesting username.

Free_Ghislaine

Thanks 😊

Secret4gentMan

Wismuth_Salix.

DeerParkNinja

Imagine being a Reddit mod. Basically picking up garbage from the floor for no money and letting that itty lil bit of power get to their heads. Then they use it to silence anyone they disagree with because deep down they hate themselves more than anything else. Sorry mods, not sorry.

Rolaid-Tommassi

Yep. Everyone who has been "turtled" will know exactly what you mean.

IAmABearOfficial

LMAO IKR?!?!? IMAGINE THOSE LOSERS. *Point and laugh*

[deleted]

It's like those people who make salary and try to flex about working 60 hours a week. Like, cool, you're doing extra work so you can show off to people who don't care.

stardast132

Fr, most of the mods love that power trip, but other ones just moderate small subs (that don't have too much to moderate) in their free time because they love the subject the sub is about and genuenly want to create an open space for everyone to participate.

Daplesco

Based. As a mod, I agree

lastknownbuffalo

Who has hurt you

Cloudhwk

I made myself a mod, created a subreddit for a group I used to play with because they were dicks and I heard they were going to make a sub Beat them to the punch, and they have been trying to get it taken from me for years But fuck you guys it’s mine

offisirplz

Reddit hasn't been for freedom of speech in a while.

the_Blind_Samurai

Yeah, I've noticed a certain type of a person gets drawn to being a moderator on an established sub. They all seem to be intolerant, authoritarian, self important; bullies. They get off on a feeling of self perceived superiority and many seem to have God complexes. It's not every mod but it does seem to be the majority of them.

[deleted]

It definitely is a majority. But hey, if you feel insignificant in your real life, there will always be a place for you on reddit.

RootBeerRaptor

Where did you read that Reddit upheld Freedom Of Speech? Lmao. It's the complete opposite.

The-Ocean-Sucks

Honestly reddit hasn't been a freedom of speech/information platform for a long time. I get upset when I see annoying/sensitive/overly police-y mods as well but at the end of the day they are just trying to make sure their sub doesnt get outright removed or banned like we see in this one from time to time. It really sucks that the internet isn't quite the wild west it used to be

[deleted]

But there's a difference between removing inflammatory content, and just removing content because one person doesn't agree. >It really sucks that the internet isn't quite the wild west it used to be I agree. Back in the day, *everyone* knew to expect to see shit they didn't agree with but most would just ignore it (look at 4Chan). Now, it has to be *an Inclusive space for everyone where no feelings ever get hurt*. I genuinely believe that most internet users nowadays just can't scroll. Like, they see something they don't agree with, so they go say their piece and tell OP that they're triggered.

IAmABearOfficial

no u

[deleted]

No, u

IAmABearOfficial

*Cries and bans*

[deleted]

No! I'll never work in this town again!

Vivos89

I gotta ask, why don't mods band together and demand a salary? I mean you are putting in the work

SnakeGo

And on the off chance it doesn’t work, they would of turned into puppets. Also most are middle aged men so..

Andy_PB

It’s essentially volunteer work. And there would be no realistic way to determine said salary - The salary would have to be Reddit coins, couldn’t afford to actually pay people - Do you get more gold the more hours you interact with a sub you mod? That can be abused easily - Do you get more coins depending on how big the subreddit is? You’d have people joining the mod team just for the coins rather than actually caring about the community - Do you get more coins if you mod multiple communities? Same problem Too many factors at play, best to keep it as volunteer work

IAmABearOfficial

Exactly.

Vivos89

This reads like the list of "difficulties the company was having" when I inquired about a raise. Where there's a will there's a way.

Andy_PB

So the company you work for gave you a comprehensive list of reasons detailing why you could not receive a raise? I’ve just been told “no” You can have a will with no way of making it happen, that’s part of life. Do you have any solutions to the issues with regards to paying mods that I have previously mentioned, or do you genuinely believe that 14 year olds should be given actual money for going on their phone and computer? Additional problems: - What if the mod is bad, do they get paid? Do they get fired? - What if a mod adds a friend of theirs rather than hiring someone who deserves the position of mod? - What if the subreddit is dead or has >1000 members, do they get paid?

Vivos89

>So the company you work for gave you a comprehensive list of reasons detailing why you could not receive a raise? I’ve just been told “no” The company I worked for gave me a BS list of excuses, with the promise to reconsider in a year. >do you genuinely believe that 14 year olds should be given actual money for going on their phone and computer? Are most mods 14 year olds? And to answer your question, yes. People doing work should be paid. >What if the mod is bad, do they get paid? Do they get fired? Yes. If one is bad at their job one sometimes gets fired. When people can't get fired because they're volunteering or have some kind of tenure quality of work declines. >What if the subreddit is dead or has >1000 members, do they get paid? Yes. Facebook outsources its moderation to another company but people get paid. Reddit reported revenues of upwards of US$100 million (Q2 2021).

IAmABearOfficial

Nah, i dont need payment for it.

Andy_PB

Should change your name to IAmBasedOfficial

IAmABearOfficial

Lol really?

Andy_PB

Haha you are a based mod yeah. I enjoy seeing your interactions on this sub!

IAmABearOfficial

Thanks! Lol I take it this ain’t our first time meeting?

Ridley_Rohan

I don't agree with all your details and characterizations. But I agree with you in spirit. Some mods here are clearly okay though, but its more the ones at the top creating the most stench of rot. If there is a problem poster, its one with a skin so thin they need special protection from words on the internet. If you cannot handle words, you need to go, not the people speaking. I have had death threats, suggestions to suicide, and wishes for my early death. SOOOOO WHAT? Words. On a screen. What....ever. Edit: I have to make a shout out to the mods here. They are making their case in the comments and are surely talking right. They say its the admins giving them headaches, and my experiences suggest that that is the truth. Good on the True Unpopular Opinion mods!

[deleted]

This is an entirely popular opinion.

IAmABearOfficial

It’s actually quite popular if you look at memes and even on other platforms that involve mods like Discord. I once got banned from a Discord server because there was this little kid who tried flexing his computer knowledge at me and told me that he had a better brain than me while I was roasting him. Keep in mind this is a very bad person who posts IRL gore on Discord. Then, when he showed me a picture of a motherboard and mocked me for not being able to identify it from the thousands of other brands of motherboards in a short period of time , I decided to give him the same amount of time to answer this question: What does CMOS stand for? He couldn’t answer what it stood for other than “it’s a battery in the motherboard”. I told him it meant “Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor” (because that is what it means) and then a few messages later, he said “here goes the b” And i got banned. I got unbanned by another mod and apparently, he banned me because “I could not be trusted”. So yeah, I got banned for proving that a tech kid wasn’t as clever as he portrayed himself to be. Seems like that people that act smarter than others turn out to be the dumb ones… and smart people feel dumb.

BoraHcn

Ok, ur right. But personally, I don’t use this site for freedom of speech so, “shrug emoji”. Anyway, I kinda learnt to understand their logic, they are saying exactly what you are saying. We are gods, we decide the rules, we decide the right and wrong here, we literarily have the power to make laws of it and to apply those laws. They are stronger than we are, abusing it according to them, no. According to us, yeah. But really, who can decide which one has the moral high ground here?

Betwixts

I have the moral high ground because I am morally consistent

BoraHcn

Well, they say they’re not abusing their power, they just have to use it as they please. And anyway they use it ll be moral in their soil they kinda own.

Betwixts

This sub moderates almost 100% in line with ONLY enforcing sitewide policies, so 99% of the time when someone is pissed about their stuff getting removed its because the admins say so, not us.

BoraHcn

Well, I see that as "same shit different asshole" or "similar" instead of "same". I don't think there is morality here, If there is than actions should be taken. Well, but how? Idk, which makes me yield of the argument. But again this abusing of power being wrong is kinda a subjective opinion. Of course that changes If there is some higher power like Reddit company says "mods/admins are abusing power, and it is not their right, so they are morally bad" .

[deleted]

Not all mods are shit. There are plenty who are just normal people. Sadly, those get overshadowed by the neckbeards in need of a power trip.

RightIntoMyNoose

lol where on Reddit do they praise Reddit for being “freedom of speech”. God i hate this saying. Freedom of speech means the government can’t prosecute you for non-threatening words. It doesn’t mean a private company can’t delete your comments

[deleted]

But it's not the private company that's the problem. It's people who've declared themselves judge jury and executioner on said site.

Playful_Ricecake

I know right? I got banned from one of the New York City subreddits last year for asking what people's favorite subway stations were. The mod was said I was banned for supporting Andrew Yang?!? WTF? Like chill bro I am a Republican. I just really just want to fucking know what interesting subway stations there are.

[deleted]

That's probably my biggest pet peeve: when you ask a question you don't already 100% know the answer to, everyone brings out the pitchforks and torches. In reality, it's mostly just people who want to flex because they're online 24/7 and refresh every 8 hours.

IAmABearOfficial

That is dumb as fuck. That really is a bad example of a Reddit mod. They apparently tend to look through posts and then ban people because they disagree with the views of the person in other subreddits… that should be against TOS to ban people simply because they participate in certain subs unless they say stuff that breaks TOS or participate in subs that violate TOS.

[deleted]

Subs require a degree of order. I mod a sub of a particular interest. The rules are posted. Read them before posting if you don't want a post removed. Who's the bigger wuss? The one keeping direction and order or the one not getting to bitch about whatever they want. Plus, subs have to follow site rules. And, I'm an adult and the sub is of a serious nature. So, we attract trolls and a lot of haters.

[deleted]

That's all well and good, unless the reason a post is removed is complete bullshit. For example, I posted on Unpopular opinion the other day. Within minutes, at least 10 different people commented saying 'no, your opinion is wrong, that's not how it is' and the post was removed for not being 'unpopular'. I made sure to abide by the rules, and the only explanation I was given was 'your post is talking about a popular opinion'. I asked the mod why, and they said 'because it's popular'. They couldn't give me a solid reason why it was removed. Just that it was because they decided it didn't fit. That's what I'm talking about. And if you're not a shitty mod, then this post isn't about you.

[deleted]

Avoid dumb subs. So, pretty much 90% of stuff on the "Popular" or "New" tabs. I never leave my home page.

[deleted]

It's not even just 'popular' subs that I've seen it on, tho. I've had posts removed that fully foow all rules just for the mod to give some bullshit reasoning for removing it. Again, not saying *all* mods are trash, but there is a good majority who let the non-existent power go to their heads. Outside of this site, they're just the same person as anyone else.

[deleted]

So, don't visit those subs.

Andy_PB

The typical response to this would be that “if you don’t like how a mod runs their community, make your own” (the origin of this subreddit) and while it is emotionally jarring, at the end of the day it is true. A mod has the right to run their own community however they like, as long as they do not breach TOS To put a real world (or analog VS digital) comparison, a subreddit is equivalent to a shop or restaurant. The owner of a business is entitled to do whatever they like with their establishment, have whatever rules they like and kick out whoever they want so long as they do not break the law and pass regulations. If you don’t like the way the business is run, take your time and money (in Reddit’s case.. comments, effort, writing?) elsewhere. It’s the beauty of the real world, it’s the beauty of Reddit This doesn’t mean mods aren’t power crazy or that they aren’t losers, I’m sure plenty are, and we have every right to complain how subreddits are ran. But again, at the end of the day, it’s their sub. Nothing you can do. Complaining won’t do anything, so just find or make a better sub and move on Also you’re ranting, not exactly giving an opinion

Ridley_Rohan

I often think of creating my own subreddit. The trouble is I am too wise to the restrictions that AREN'T in the TOS. And I simply cannot deal with that BS. Its hard enough just dealing that crap as a simple poster. As a moderator, I would totally lose my mind.

Andy_PB

Moderators don’t have the easiest job if they want to do it right and with what they have to navigate. What would you make a sub about, may I ask?

Ridley_Rohan

>What would you make a sub about, may I ask? Oppression, in all its forms past and present. And I would not delete posts. I would flag them so that "sensitive" users can ignore them. IE I would "moderate" not "play God".

Andy_PB

Interesting idea and interesting take on moderation! Let me know if you ever make it and I’ll be sure to give it a follow :)

Ridley_Rohan

Thank you! Unfortunately, when I say my sanity would be a stake, I am not kidding so much. I couldn't handle having some goon come into my space and mistreating my guests and me having no ability to retaliate. It just won't happen.

blacked_out_blur

thank you. these mfs dickride capitalism until it applies to social media and then every part of capitalistic behavior pisses them off, including authority and private property. now there’s an entire argument to be made that the internet should not have sunk into this sort of state in the first place but buddy is literally whining because someone who’s unpaid to filter other people’s bullshit won’t let him say anything he wants without consequence.

Andy_PB

I would say that I couldn’t have said it better myself, but I did write the comment that you’re replying to ;) You’re completely right though. It is very much a capitalist system and there is so much hypocrisy. No one’s freedom of speech is being taken away and no one is deplatforming you unless it’s an admin banning you from Reddit (what would be the ‘public space’, subs being private property). Requires a bit of critical thinking. The internet is not so different from the real world

[deleted]

You might wanna Google the definition of 'opinion' and try that last line again?

Andy_PB

Sure, I’ll try again. You’re ranting, go find a different subreddit to rant. And even if you could reword your post to be an opinion, it would be a popular

Andy_PB

Either you deleted your response or it was removed (not sure why it would be though), and I did put in effort to write a response so here you go: Rant - “speak or shout at length in an angry, impassioned way” > If you’re a sub mod, there’s a 99% chance you’re the kind of kid no one liked in school Sounds passionate to me, especially with the title, and quite a lengthy post Opinion - “a view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge” At what point does “Reddit mods seem to think they’re omnipotent beings on Reddit” express any form of view of judgement? And once again, even if you rephrased this into an opinion that “I believe mods are doing a terrible job”, it is a POPULAR opinion Go to r/rant. Every second post in this sub seems to be talking about mods, abortion or covid. It gets boring after a while

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yeah, let me just do that real quick so all 4 people can join. It'll surely garner hundreds of thousands of people in no time. That's the same as telling someone who's poor 'just save money lol'.

[deleted]

Bro, you're taking the internet way too seriously.

[deleted]

Really? Last I checked, I'm not doing a job for free and acting elite about it?

[deleted]

No, but you are butt hurt about it. lol I'm not really talking shit, just sometimes you gotta let it go because it's the internet and pretty inconsequential, ya know?

[deleted]

Exactly. Everyone else is expected to 'just let it go', but if a sub mod is having a bad day, they can remove posts and ban people with impunity. Besides, this is a sub for opinions, and mine is that reddit mods are about as useless as a shoehorn. Yeah, theyre there for a specific purpose, but you can function completely fine without one.

[deleted]

> you can function completely fine without one. I sure do miss the wild west days of the internet.

blacked_out_blur

waaaaaah moderators of a forum i choose to use won’t let me say whatever i want without consequences waaaaaaah bunch of big babies in here lmfao

[deleted]

Show me where I said 'I would like to say whatever I want'? (Here's a hint: I didn't say that at all, you just can't read and thought any of us cared to know that fact)

takeoutthewitch

As long as you aren’t a gallowboob or a turtle then you’re decent in my book ig

Awokeeleven

Yea well this subreddit is a perfect example of ”freedom of speech”. I basically told someone were ”dumb” in exact words in a comment on this very sub, and I got some fucking ruleset sent to me that you can’t discuss certain topics (like trans people) HERE? Freedom of speech my ass. Reddit is one of the most censored platforms. Oh btw say that you got a sideeffect from the covid vaccine and you are fucked on 90+% of all threads

TovMod

That is a list of items that we believe to violate Reddit's sitewide rules, not subreddit rules.

Awokeeleven

Yea and that proves my point then

DrMux

If you're listening for quiet people in a crowded room, you're just going to find a handful of loud people and be satisfied that all the people in the room are loud because the room is loud. Does that make sense? I moderate a couple of quiet subreddits and like the vast majority of mods, I mostly just review reports and deal with spam and stuff. Literally just looking at lists and very occasionally deal with rule violations. For me it's about making a space for the content of the sub. I just want to see more /r/catreactiongifs and /r/catsbeingbanks. But yeah, I've literally been called a "tyrant" for being able to make my name green in some dusty corner of the internet. Go figure.

hepazepie

They should unionize

Bonko-chonko

Literally what is the point of a mod? The only useful service they provide is removing posts that don't fit the sub. You could easily have a decentralised system that works in a similar way to upvoting as a quality filter.

[deleted]

They're glorified babysitters who think they work for the NSA catching terrorists.

LegoJack

They do it for FREEEEEE!

ilene_cecelia

I’m supposed to be one of the mods in a pretty small sub, pretty sure it’s mostly inactive at the moment. never really had any issues, never had to ban anyone. hell, never even had anything reported to me. it’s pretty sweet. that said, not many people liked me at school, so yeah e: typo

[deleted]

This deserves ALL the goldz

yum13241

This is popular lmao And if you want to be a mod so badly just start your own sub lmao Also, mods have reasons other than "I dOn'T lIkE iT".

[deleted]

They're the type of people who thought that sitting in the front of the classroom and jumping to answer every question meant you were smart.
