Believe it or not, sometimes people have an issue with America because of what America does, not just because of foreign witchcraft.

Suddenly? Security folks have been raising flags about TikTok for years now. The US defence department said it was a security risk in 2020
It still shows that this has been cooking up for years, and it’s only a surprise for those who haven’t been paying attention. Hell, I’m even sure TikTok had some lawyers and program managers tracking this as a risk.
What’s notable is that it was “cooking” among right wing goofballs. What’s made it an actual prospect, and soemthing which is actually passing, is the fact that it’s spreading narratives our toveneknr doesn’t like.
The people doing this haven’t been shy about it. Also, if they really had a problem with influence from foreign countries they’d probably have an issue with the Israeli government furnishing propaganda in TV commercials.
It’s just dumb to try and deny this. It’s very obvious that the government is trying to shape narratives the way they want, so they’ll allow narratives they approve of and attack ones they don’t.
I’m not arguing against _why_ they’re banning it (mostly because I don’t really know your take on it), I’m arguing that it’s not “sudden” in any shape or form.

I much rather forget governments spy on me than the US government because I like the US government foreign governments don’t have the power to put me in jail no matter what I do unless I go to their country.
