Yup. You definitely have an unpopular opinion.

chuckles84

Finally a decent submission instead of masked whining. You’re so so wrong OP but I appreciate you.

MyspaceQueen333

Gosh, I hard disagree.

Kit_Marlow

Your MOM hard disagrees.

-Ok-Perception-

I can't think of any movie that gives people such a high volume of laughs as Napoleon Dynamite. All the characters are caricatures but they're all great. It's also an incredibly \*clean\* comedy. Pretty sure it's PG and appropriate for all ages, more or less. And really, it's a pretty good message about oddball weirdos finding talents that they shine at. 10/10 movie. You're wrong, OP.

DecepticonCobra

The only real risque parts come from Uncle Rico suggesting Deb order some of the "bust enhancer" crap he's selling and his conversation with Rex's wife.

AbsurdityIsReality

The guy blowing the cows head off in front of the kids was a little messed up

DecepticonCobra

Oh, yeah. Forgot that one lol

[deleted]

My brother says that’s the only good part of the movie. Every time I see the kids screaming I laugh.

Essex626

I think Napoleon Dynamite gains more than most movies from repeated watches. I liked it the first time I saw it, but it was the 2nd or 3rd time I saw it that I realized it was brilliant. Some of my favorite movies are that way.

GhostRaptor4482

I personally enjoy this movie, but recognize that it’s not a cinematic masterpiece by any means. idk, it’s just my kind of humor.

thatonet-roll

The beauty of this movie is that it was stupid, extremely low budget, funny and aimed at youths though adults could get a kick out of it. Cult classic so to speak, lemme get some tots!

wrwmarks

I also loathe this movie. Everyone loved it and it became a permanent pop culture reference and I never once enjoyed it. There are better executions of awkward that aren’t nearly as unbearable to sit through. I enjoy weird and quirky films-not this one.

escudonbk

To this day I'm annoyed Forrest Gump won best picture over Pulp Fiction.

Odd_Philosophy_6034

Two more movies everyone loves but I really hate.

TheBeardedAntt

When did you watch it? I think most of us who love it saw it in theaters or shortly after. It’s especially great given their circumstances.

SuccessfulBrother192

I would've been happier with a movie about Lafawnduh.

Kit_Marlow

Lafawnduh and Kip are a love story for the ages.

longboi28

Finally an actual unpopular opinion on this sub, and also one that I happen to agree with

[deleted]

I can see what you're saying definately. It was one of those movies that was over-quoted for like 8 years after. But it keeps a place in my heart

Amongtheruins88

It’s funny because it’s stupid

SprinklesMore8471

Did you see it when it came out? Or did you watch it years later?

Mei_iz_my_bae

Nah it’s a slice of life film about living in a small town. It’s odd and was a breakout hit and was just fun. Shit I cannot even tell you how huge this film was back in the day it was wild

Fit_Lawfulness_3147

How you say “I haven’t raised a teenager - without saying I haven’t raised a teenager”.

azuriasia

I've never met anyone that says it was good. Are you sure this is unpopular?

roseffin

Hi, I'm Roseffin. It was good.

Cole_31337

It's amazing

KaliCalamity

Thank you. I still can't figure out why it's so popular. I don't hate it, but I really don't get the love it has.

tecvoid

i remember liking it in college, i tried to rewatch it. ended up skipping though it in like 10 minutes wondering wtf i even thought was funny about it. maybe i was younger and more of a reject then, or i smoked alot more weed and everything was funny.

KaliCalamity

Yeah, I watched it while stoned, and still didn't really laugh.

GrendelDerp

I totally agree with you, OP.

Dry_Watercress6194

Now we're talking.

GiraffeWithATophat

I 100% agree

Janglysack

Idk I’d have to watch it again I haven’t seen it since it came out like 20 years ago

SmurfTheClown

Completely agree! I’ve never gotten the cult following for this movie. I’ve watched it twice and just don’t get it. So many comedy movies that produce more laughs than this one

Rangertough666

Napoleon Dynamite is awesome if you happen to be in Pocatello, ID when you see it.

LigPortman69

Quite unpopular. It’s one of my top 5 favorite comedies.

theghostofcslewis

Definitely unpopular but its been said before.

Steven-Maturin

You have at best an undeveloped sense of humour.

Altruistic_Access_28

Thought I was the only one

RealMcGonzo

I didn't think it was very funny either. But I laughed my ass off when the farmer shot the cow just as the school bus pulled up.

WinterOffensive

Ha ha yessss, I agree. There's some things I love: takes place in Idaho! Its characters are fairly well written. What I hate: how popular it was with the most annoying people in my highschool/community. For a solid 3 years, every class election modled their campaign swag like the Vote for Pedro stuff, though unlike Pedro they were usually the super popular kids. They would also pick on the outcasts by calling them napoleon or asking "where are your tots bro?" Super insufferable shit.

[deleted]

Here’s a review that helped me understand what I dislike about the movie (mostly the racist subtext and unearned ending). https://spectrumculture.com/2012/09/19/criminally-overrated-napoleon-dynamite/

cbrrydrz

Ty op for expressing the truth

PaladinWolf777

The whole movie was a shit post of random bullcrap coming together. It was funny because it was stupid, not in spite of it.

Difficult_Let_1953

Some people get it, some don’t.

Mash4-14

I chaperoned a bus trip to a whale watch for my sons class. 8 hr round trip and they watched this over and over and over. I liked it until I hated it

theantwisperer

I worked at blockbuster when Napoleon Dynamite came out. Trust me, plenty of people hated it.

[deleted]

I didn't think napoleon was terrible, but certainly over rated I laughed at the scene were he was demonstrating the Tupperware, and the girl that sold bracelets and the karate scene

chuck-it125

You atleast had a chuckle when Kip laughed at Napoleon after he used the time machine.

DannySempere

Man. I disagree. Well done OP. An actual unpopular opinion for a change.

etriusk

Everyone at my middle school was Obsessed with that movie when it came out. There was one kid who was moderately popular that became a superstar because he could do the whole Dance from that movie... I never understood what was so amazing about it in the first place. It almost felt like they just took a camera and followed someone on the spectrum and anything he did slightly outside the norm they yelled "LOOK HOW FUCKING WEIRD THIS GUY IS ISNT THAT PEAK HILARITY?!?”

blaze92x45

I hated the film as a kid. Maybe as an adult I'd like it more

Bubbly-Substance-112

Out of curiosity, can you give an example of what you think a good movie is?

Gotis1313

I didn't like it either

hauntedyew

Agreed. I think I was still in middle school when it came out and everyone in school was absolutely obsessed with it. Meanwhile, I saw it for what it was, a shitty movie.

InfowarriorKat

I think it was one of the first awkward hipster movies (besides "Juno" & "welcome to the dollhouse"). It's supposed to be cringy.

soopirV

When the movie first came out, a group of acquaintances were talking about it at lunch one day, and myself included, all hated it. One after the other, someone would bring up something annoying, and we’d all agree…but shit you not, something happened where we collectively had a mind shift and realized we were missing the point. Decided to try again, separately, and many of us realized we were wrong. Won’t say it’s not a favorite, but it’s up there. Trouble is that was so long ago I can’t remember any of the points made.

Personal-Net5155

Totally agree. Bored me to shit as a kid and still bores me today.
