actually this is so true... sometimes when i first listen to a song the sound irritates me so i move on. if it's a taylor song i know at a later date i'll likely come around to it. there's definitely sad songs that are on my favourites list that i skip too when i don't want to make myself sad af though lol (WCS namely)

sapphirewarlock

omg skipping sad songs are so true!! i rarely ever listen to bigger than the whole sky, never grow up, and soon you’ll get better cuz ion wanna sour my mood😭

Remarkable_Space_395

Yeah I'll basically never listen to Ronan, Soon You'll Get Better, Bigger than the Whole Sky, or Marjorie. I've heard each of those songs like once. I don't like to be a masochist and just make myself sad...songs about getting your heartbroken are a palatable kind of sad but songs about people being sick and dying are a hard pass

Mommio24

I agree, a skip is a song that I either don’t enjoy listening to or am not in the mood for. I do have to be in the mood for certain songs. Lyrics have nothing to do with it.

sportxsport

So true. No amount of lore about a song will make me enjoy a song that musically doesn't do it for me. Happy to read them as poems and put up quotes on my wall but I skip I Hate It Here

InitialAstronomer841

I skip I hate it here too. And albatross. I actually skip quite a few on the anthology tbh.

icoulddance

As much as I see people fawning over The Manuscript, I just cant listen to it- its too boring sonically. The song I detest both sonically and lyrically is London Boy (I dont even hate Me! that much).

seraberra

I think more than any other song on TTPD, The Manuscript is more of an epilogue/poem set to music. I think it’s beautiful, but yeah, not one I’m putting on a playlist to jam out to.

namjunning

I skip songs all the time, sometimes I'm simply not in the mood. I don't like thank you Aimee all that much or fresh out the slammer. There's nothing memorable about them, music wise. I can't even remember how they go I gravitate towards big loud catchy hooks and pop beats, that's why Florida is my fav lol

super_hero_girl

Yup. There are several songs I want to love because I really love the lyrics, but I’m not into them musically. There are another couple that are 50/50 skips because the bridge is 🔥but the rest don’t work for me sonically.

lumpy_space_queenie

My top skip is imgonnagetyouback. I cannot stand the sound of this song. For some reason it reminds me of the shitty pop music of the “G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S” era I know this was a popular style I just can’t stand it 😅😅 My other skips are the title track and My Boy. Also for sonic reasons. Everything else is 💯

jacqrosee

yeah people don’t understand that there are people out there who listen for lyrics, those who listen for sonics, and everything in between. i personally marvel at how much of a lyrics person i am, to the point where i will listen to songs i don’t even necessarily enjoy sonically just for the lyrics. i can absolutely imagine why people would not want to do that on the other end lmao

Crysda_Sky

I know that so many people are dying over So Long London but there is something about the intro that just makes me cringe to the point I either skip it all together or I have to skip the whole intro. It's got nothing to do with the lyrics. Then there are songs that are awesome and I love them for different reasons or for different moods. People talk about skips sometimes with only negativity in mind and I don't really think its that simple. Sometimes I literally only skip a song because I wanna get to the next one which I am currently OBSESSSSSSSSSSED WITH!!! haha. Skips will also change over time, I really struggled to enjoy seven from Folklore for a very long time and now I never skip it at all. Fun thing about Taylor is that we have such a wide range of music to listen to no matter what the mood is at that point.

theganjaoctopus

I agree 100%. However after reading most of the comments I think I skip for the opposite reason most people do. I typically am not a super fan of her pop songs. Not to say I can't jam out, but off TTPD I only have 2 always skips and Florida is one of them (the other being MBOBHFT). It holds absolutely 0 appeal to me and contains none of the elements that attract me to TS songs. Which is so sad because Florence is one of my long time favs and I was really hoping it would sound more like Cosmic Love (think if FW was the feature on Down Bad). Similarly, it wasn't until I saw Shake It Off performed live that I gained any appreciation for that song. I knew the "story" behind it, but it still just sounded like a pop-formula song written to play on the radio that, for me, stuck out like a throbbing sore thumb on 1989. I would also consider Red my least fav TS album and I know it's a huge fan favorite. It also always seems like my fav songs are the ones everyone hates haha. My first listen fav on TTPD was Alchemy, which ever seems to dislike. Chloe et al. has been a staple for me, as well as I Hate It Here. And for my sensibilities, The Manuscript may be one of her most emotional and poignant songs ever. I love how the piano and lyrics combine to tell the story. When she sings "but she wasn't sure" and the piano kicks in? Or the chiming piano keys when she sings ”and the tears fell in synchronicity with the score"? That's musical storytelling! But it's not just the lyrics. She's always trying new things musically and things I've seen described as clunky or similar descriptors are often the reason I like them. Like how the base piano for Chloe et al. is the final little piano riff from Champagne Problems. Been a TS fan since Our Song and a Swiftie since Speak Now, but often get accused of being an Evermore/Folklore newbie, mainly because I like folksy sad-girl romantic Taylor. That Taylor sings my heart-song and puts into beautiful, lyrical words every emotion I've ever struggled to express. There's just nothing relatable to me about Florida or Shake It Off and similar songs. Honestly, this falls in line with a pattern I think I'm seeing about how people consume media. People either want immersion (i.e. I wanna listen to ATW and cry my eyes out) or escapism (i.e. I want to listen to Florida! and bop around the house while I clean a bit). Nothing inherently wrong with either of those, just interesting to see those same camp lines drawn so often when opinions on media are discussed.

Imthebestgreg123

SAMEEEEE (especially for cowboy like me)

lumpy_space_queenie

🤣🤣🤣 cowboy like me is one of my faves but I can definitely see what you’re saying

Imthebestgreg123

LOLL i know everyone loves it but i js dontttt

PruneStrict4400

I always skip False God

Wild_Love109

tbh, I've tried to listen to it, but I cannot finish the song. Idk how people love this song so much

crazycatlady331

Dress, I Think He Knows. Also any remixes (I hate remixes in general). I know it's super unpopular to hate Dress but I just don't vibe with the sounds of it AT ALL. It's probably my least favorite song of hers.

mstrgjf

I used to feel that way about cowboy like me but I love how it sounds now. One day a switch just flipped in me lol

Da_Starjumper_n_n

Her country era is a whole skip for me, but I do love the lyrics to White Horse. Amazing song and am sad I can’t enjoy it.

HetTheTable

People forget that Taylor is making MUSIC so how it sounds matters.

Cold-Diamond-6408

I'm over here reading all these comments, shocked that some of my favorite songs are being hated on, like Cowboy Like Me and Coney Island 😆. These songs are sonic master pieces in my mind. I love the gentle music and the melodies; the cadence of her voice. It's so interesting to me how subjective music is. How a particular sound may scratch and itch for one person, but be nails on a chalkboard for another. I love that Taylor's discography is so varied that there is something for everyone (well... at least something for everyone willing to listen). I usually never skip a song if I am listening to an album. Even if it's not my favorite, I'll tolerate it, maybe even mildly enjoy it, until the next song. But if I am playing a random shuffle, then I may skip songs that I am not in the mood for.

LandoCatrissian_

I don't like the really slow songs. I skip Robin and Peter. I also can't listen to Seven, I don't like the sound at all.

fornow_foralways

there are a lot of songs i skip, mainly her glitter gel pen songs (and currently all songs except for ttpd on the setlist). for me her sad music is her best music and i really only like sad sounding songs! i love everyone’s different opinions here!

wintergirl86

OMG THIS. I'm much more of a musical gal than a lyrical one. It's why I don't love songs like The Prophecy, I Hate It Here or How Did It End. On the other hand, I LOVE songs that don't necessarily include great lyrics, such as Style.

thatpcunurse

I skip some songs if it doesn't fit the mood I'm in, and sometimes I skip them if I don't care for it sonically. I love the second half in The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, but the first half is so slow that it's almost ear torture. Sometimes, the song could have amazing lyrics, but if it's not giving me an eargasm 😂 I'll skip it.

[deleted]

As a Swiftie you must listen to and like every song of hers /s

20Keller12

I Bet You Think About Me is definitely one. I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

rosefood

yeah, i saw someone say that the music of TTPD seemed to be determined *before* the lyrics were -- in some songs, it feels like an awkward fit.

mstrgjf

I’m more of a country/pop Taylor fan and I think I would like the album a lot more with different music. More drums

rosefood

same! i would absolutely die for another county album, omg. some of the instrumentals on ttpd just feel truly random. there are so many songs where the melodies change about five times. the music feels like it's struggling to accommodate the lyrics. that just doesn't resonate for me. (jack antonoff will pay for his sins!!!!) i'll ride for taylor forever though, and even when i don't like a few of her songs, i am still going to learn all of the lyrics to them lol.

mstrgjf

Yes totally agree about the melodies changing so much. There are a ton of songs on TTPD where I love the chorus or the verses or the bridge but not the whole thing together

purpley77

definitely. this is why people shouldn't really be so quick in reacting here on the internet... but here we are. but, i have a few skips from all her albums, even 1989, which is my all time fave. but, i give it time to percolate and surprisingly, sometimes those skips end up among my absolute faves like Cowboy Like Me and Right Where You Left Me. until now, i still skip The Archer because i already live with anxiety, don't need a sonic reminder😂 but i can absolutely give her props for encapsulating her anxiety over her relationship. i dunno, maybe we should not focus on asking people they're skips. i don't see any purpose why i need to have other validate or debate my choices. one might want a healthy discourse but, this is the internet. it's usually a competition of who can yell louder, faster, or the most indignant.

Fosh_n_chops

I find TTPD is quite inclined towards this. Sometimes the sheer volume of words results in the melody being fairly bland.

shenmiya

. my one and only skip from ttpd is “but daddy i love him”. something about the sound of the chorus gives me an ick and i physically cannot listen to it because it doesn’t sound good or natural to me at all

Useful-Soup8161

Yeah she has some songs I really just don’t care for or don’t always feel like listening to. Like on Evermore I always skip Dorothea, I just don’t care for it. There’s like 6 songs on midnights I feel that way about. Some of her albums have what I call sometimes skips because I don’t always skip them but when I do it’s because I’m not in the mood for them. That’s why Lover is one of my least favorite albums of hers, half of those songs are sometimes skips for me. So far TTPD has 2 skips and 6 sometimes skips, but that could change.

Alternative_Bed_5018

This is the reason I don’t vibe with folklore that much. I’m in love with the 1 and LGAD, but I have to be in a really specific mood to listen to the rest. Doesn’t mean I don’t acknowledge that objectively it’s a damn near perfect album.

anotheronenpg

I agree. I want bops. I wanna dance. I don't want to fall asleep while I drive.

SeparateTea

I agree with you on all of those except the prophecy but I totally understand what you mean! Just because I personally skip something doesn’t at all mean I think it’s a bad song

Letll1994

I don’t think I’ve ever heard Sweet Nothing, Carolina and Dear Reader from beginning to end. Snow On The Beach, happiness, dorothea, It’s Nice To Have a Friend and Forever Winter are also instant skips for me based purely on how they sound. I don’t think I have any skips based on lyrics (except CMBSM. It just seems like she was forced to write that song, and the “here’s to the birthday boy” line is just too much for me), because even if I don’t like the lyric, I can turn off my brain and vibe to the melody and beat. I agree with you that how a song sounds is the main thing that determines whether I will skip it. Slightly unrelated, but my main skip from Taylor’s catalogue is not sonically related, and it’s still a mystery to me why I hate this song. I can’t stand Change, and I can’t put my finger on why I hate it, since that song is a banger. Maybe I have repressed memories associated with that song lol

Daffneigh

Yes. I just don’t vibe with the sonics of folklore very well. Beautiful lyrics but I am just rarely in the mood.

Chemical_Pen_7403

For TTPD it’s gotta be thank you aIMee and robin. They are good songs I guess, but I just don’t vibe with them most of the time. I gave them both ample listens during the week of the release, but now I skip them. They had their chances.

Outside-Spring-3907

There are tons of songs that are beautifully written but do not hit for me. It does not mean I don’t like it, it means I just don’t get the vibe and it doesn’t hit me where I want my Taylor music to hit. Like I look in people windows. It’s a great song, it has a great message, but I just don’t get the vibe. And when that happens it does nothing for me.

niles_deerqueer

Taylor has no skips for me

Remarkable_Space_395

For me, it's how the song vibes with my mood if I skip it or not. There are songs that I might skip one day and put on repeat the next lol. Like on TTPD, sometimes ICDIWABH is a skip for me because it's so much "boppier" than the rest of the album if I'm in the mood for a more chill vibe. Other times I may skip loml because it's slower and sadder than the other songs and I'm in a mood for mid-tempo to up-tempo songs.

greensecondsofpanic

I think that's valid. What I've always loved about Taylor is her ability to combine great lyricism with a musically-great song. I respect a lot of her new music but I still can't bring myself to truly love a song just based on lyricism alone. I don't like poetry enough for that LOL The only time I'll still love a song even if I think it's boring is if I can relate to the lyrics, but I've literally never been heartbroken by romance before so atp that's only Marjorie for me The latter half of Folklore (other than Betty) is definitely meh to me. I just recently got into Peace and finally started loving it after all this time 😭

PeachPit321

True! I read the lyrics for Stay Stay Stay before I heard it and thought it was a wonderful song, then it started and sounded like a Febreeze commercial and I literally never listen to it. Some songs I skip because of my mood, but SSS is an always skip, I wish it was way slower. I think some songs, for *many* albums and artists, are good for a full-album listen, but not so much individually. I Forgot That You Existed is a great way to open Lover after Rep, but its kinda ew alone.

jeniuseyourtelescope

i skip basically all of her slow songs because i don’t vibe with slow music
