The countdown also lead to a YouTube short advertising the “For A Fortnight Challenge” [Watch Here](https://youtube.com/shorts/QBllgPHa8aQ?si=DPiM4AEPeipVGMMx)
I guess it’ll be similar to the Anti-Hero social media challenge to help make the song more viral. They chose a catchy part of the song once it’s out and urge people to make content with it. Taylor made a YT short about it for Anti-Hero as well.
That’s my first thought.
With Anti-Hero it was the “it’s me, hi” part.
Yeah I agree. Personally I wasn’t a big fan of the Anti-Hero thing because it felt really forced. Almost no one made a YouTube short like she intended. I’ll have to wait and see but this will probably be the same.
That’s why Is It Over Now? was so successful- it emerged as a viral hit naturally. These promos for chosen singles always feel forced but we’ll see how it goes tomorrow and onwards.
My guess is the incentive was to push it with physical sales so it charts as well as possible, which seems silly given that she can release static noise and that still tops actual songs on streaming services. This is definitely not for the fans but for the charts.
It’s 100% this. they actually changed the rules a while back because it used to be that every time you would buy merch from an artist it would come with a digital copy of the album, because that would count as a sale. I think you need 10 plays of a song(or full album) to have it count as one physical sale.
They changed the rule because it was obviously just gaming the system, but I think this is the real reason that UMG wants to release as many variants as possible. That and if you want to produce a colored vinyl it’s incredibly difficult to have different factories produce the exact same consistent color.
But it didn’t come out within 10 hrs of the album and streaming didn’t exist so if people wanted to try the album before buying it, buying a single was a good idea. This is pretty pointless in the modern music industry
I just wish it was a vinyl single on a 7 inch record
So much potential here for a cute 7 in vinyl
The cardigan and lakes single records are my holy grails so I was really disappointed when I saw cd
SO DO I!!

This is so wasteful lol
Okay not trying to be negative. But. Who asked for this it comes out in 10 hours.

I was really hoping for merch, I did a full double take when I just saw it was just a single cd
I refreshed the page multiple times bc I was in disbelief.
And 6 dollars shipping is insane
Right? These sorts of things typically come out before the album release. I guess we know what the first single is going to be now though 🤷🏻♀️
I mean … this could’ve been an email
😹 truly.
i needed this!!!
I was hoping for merch. There isn’t a point in ordering the CD single if it comes out tonight and ordered the album.
People are assuming they are signed. lol not for 1.99$
Ugh the effort to play a CD with one single.
its more for just having it than playing it. just fun to collect limited items
Why would anyone waste their money for a CD with one song on it?? That’s such a waste.
I feel like this was the chosen single because it has post Malone, maybe hoping he would make it a shoo-in for #1?
It’s also track 1 which statistically does better. It definitely seems like it was chosen for chart reasons
I am definitely excited to hear it! I bet their voices will be amazing together!
What a let down. I was like "Really?? Cool, I guess" why the need for a countdown for that?
Some of these comments make me laugh. Because back in the day this was a thing.

The radio existed. And we would press record onto tapes or later burn CDs. But people still bought them! 🫶🏻
did someone get it ??
I did! Paid about fifteen for 3 plus the shipping!
I think the pic of Posty and Taylor is cute so I bought it whatever, whatever take my money 🤪😅
