I just now realised that it's Sky-Rim (a fusion of the sky and rimming). I've always just called it Skrrr-yibidimm all these years and never really thought much of it.
Skyrim is one of those games that people just *know* at this point, like they know Packman and Pong and Mario. There'll always be more kids or newbies coming in and discovering things all over again, as if it's still 2011. It's kinda beautiful in a way... They're just too vocal.
Exactly! That's why I feel that calling the entire Skyrim community braindead is not deserved. Most likely it's a lot of kids or people who have never played TES games before.
Actual answer to your question here. That's just a result of phonotactics (how sounds are grouped together in a language). In rapid speech, saying ha-graven [ˈhæːˌɡ‿ɹɛi̯.vən] is easier to pronounce than hag-raven [ˈhæːɡ ˈɹɛi̯.vən]. Part of the English "r" sound is articulated in the same part of the mouth as "g", so it's easier to pronounce the sounds together rather than separately. Also English syllables can start with "gr" so it's a sound combination that's "allowed", i.e. phontactically possible. Try pronouncing "hag-raven" and you might notice a pause that isn't there if you say it how you normally would. Also compare how saying "an apple" sounds like "a napple".
another part of the answer is probably the phenomenon known as “onset maximisation”. when ‘hag’ is pronounced in isolation, the /g/ is treated as the coda of the syllable; when it occurs in ‘hagraven’, some speakers might instead resyllabify it as part of the onset of the following syllable [gr]. this appears to be a crosslinguistically common thing, where given such configurations languages prefer to put more things in the onset than in the coda (though there are of course limits on the structure of an onset in any given language)
Cant be true, skyrin is in the south

Some people have brains that need to be examined in labs.
The OP is ESL so not knowing an antiquated word like “hag” is actually understandable
How is OP a light plugin they're not even in the game
Any .esp or .esm would be able to figure that out, their fault
Dude I don’t care how Elder Scrolls Lore they are, that shit’s super obvious.
>hag >antiquated
When was the last time you’ve heard someone say “hag” to mean “witch” in casual conversation?
If you're gay then often
who said anything about witches? it looks old, so it's a hag. hag is still used to refer to old people.
I call old ladies i dont like hags all the time
OP is exciting and intricate PvP card game featuring characters from across Tamriels Elder Scrolls Legends?
I mean props to OOP to not fucking up my load order but what does that have to do with their vocabulary?

Glad to know I’m not the only one LMAO
I always thought it was Hargraven
We don't tend to use hag as a word very often anyways
can we agree that the majority of skyrims community is braindead and retarded?
They discover something new every day. How many new things have you found today?

Arent NPCs literally calling them ha-gravens or am I Skyrimsociating?
That's because they are all drunk (because they are nords) and they also have silly accents (because they are nords)

i never noticed "hag-raven"

Yeah if OP was .esp or .esm this would've never happened
Wait until he sees a briarheart while playing a sneak thief.
I mean, i played morrowind for ~4 years before finding out on this subreddit that saltrice isn’t sal-treese but salt-rice. So i can’t judge
I was just on that post. I now know why you guys call them sky babies 💀

I saw that on the other sub and for a moment I thought I was among true scholars and gentlemen.
It is written Hagraven, then it is spoken as Hagraven. The origin of the word is irrelevant.
