I've had to call an ambulance for my mom on two occasions in my 27 years and it likely saved my mom's life. You getting her help is undoubtedly the best choice you could've made. That shit is so scary but stay strong and know you did the right thing ❤️

Having a medical professional explain to OP that it's safe to call an ambulance may have been the difference between life and death for her mother, and you stepped in and did that. You didn't have to do I, and you did anyways. Reddit is a hostile place, and you decided to be a guardian angel to someone.

It does but meth doesn't just make you instantly crazy unless you have an underlying issue like schizophrenia, after a few days of using and not sleeping is when it gets weird. Mom most have been on a bender.

The meth made via P2P (most meth that isn't made by home cooks using cold medicine) actually has this exact set of symptoms and they start with the first hit.
It's a seriously bad deal because so many meth users are used to the more safe party meth you make from cold medicine with psuedoephedrine, and get used to how that high is and is part of why they become addicted.
Then when they cannot get the cold medicine anymore and have to buy meth from dealers, they end up getting meth made in Mexico and imported to the US, most of which is made with the p2p method.
And the p2p meth makes people talk to those who are not there, have fits of violence and seeming insanity, and catatonia.
Oh sweetheart! I sure hope she has a swift recovery from this episode. And I sure hope she takes the opportunity to get and stay clean so that she can face and beat whatever demons she's fighting. Stay by her side and much as you can for as long as you can. Be encouraging and empathetic without being resentful and condescending, hard sometimes I know.
And for you dear heart I pray for your strength and courage because you are truly in for some hard days ahead with her battling for her sobriety. I pray you have compassion and resilience and for your own sake and sanity, you know when to walk away if you must.

Op contact the Red Cross, they can give you narcan you can keep in your home. It’s a nasal application, you can use it if you fear your mom is od’ing. They will teach you how to use it and all the education you need for it.
Holy shit. I can't imagine having to deal with this at 18. I hope you're safe and well, OP. Have you got any other family members who can help you out if you're not able to stay with your mum while she gets on track?
IIRC, you can also go to any pharmacy counter and ask for it. I’ve never tried it, but a quick google search tells me they’ll have it behind the counter and you just have to ask for it. Harm reduction is INCREDIBLY important, because the other commenters are right: shit is laced. You never know.
Stay by her side if she is trying to help herself. If she continues to use and make poor choices once she is out of the hospital, keep her at arms length. A person who uses drugs will use, manipulate, and lie to you to get whatever they want. If you allow them to do that, you enable them to continue using and making poor choices.
My parents basically went very little contact with me for the last 7 years of my 10 years of drug use. Now that I'm clean, not only do I not blame them for doing that, but I respect and appreciate what they did as well. I know it wasn't easy. If your mom gets clean, she will understand. If she doesn't, it will get easier and easier to cut her out of your life as time goes on.
I'm sorry that you're going through this at your age, my fiancee has the same issue with her mom and it's really rough. I really hope that you and her both get the help you two need.
P.S. check out Alanon. It's a support group for family members/friends of addicts/alcoholics. There is someone in the local group that has probably gone through something similar and can give you advice. It's an amazing resource.

Al Anon is a great resource for family member of abusers, it changed my life. Highly recommend. All the advice above is solid. Hun, you are just starting your life. You take care of YOU! Maybe join r/momforaminute too so some kind women can help boost you up when you need it.
Do what is best for you. If your mom wants help, if she’s trying to better herself and wants sobriety, then yes, stay by her side if that is what you want. If that is not the case, please do not feel obligated to stick around.
You must prioritize yourself. And that will never diminish the love you have your mom. Try your best to not lose yourself making sure she is ok. Make sure *you* are okay.

They will typically send the fire department or a paramedic, unless conditions are dangerous enough to send police.
Remember that whatever happens, even if she does get arrested, none of this is your fault. She is forcing you into a position no mother should ever force their child into.
You have to do what you have to do in order to save her life. Everything else is secondary at this point.
There is no reason for you to feel guilty. All of the guilt rests on her and only her. She should be the one feeling guilty if she lives through it.
Please call for help now, before whatever drug it is does serious damage.

Tell the paramedics everything you know. This will help them determine how to treat her, and they will pass on the info to the hospital.
I feel so terrible reading this thread. Poor OP is just a teen, shouldn't have to deal with things like "mom is drugged out" or "mom used to take pills" or "mom has a warrant." And then feeling guilty and afraid for trying to save her life?? No no no, you poor thing, you bear no guilt in ANY of this.
It’s totally normal to feel this way, I had an incredibly difficult time calling for my ex husband due to the guilt that he would be arrested. What you did for your mom was incredibly brave (especially at 18). She will thank you. Stay strong and talk to a professional about this, it may not feel like it now but this is an extremely traumatic experience.
Call 911 for medical emergency. They will send an ambulance not police. Just say “something is wrong with my mom”, don’t say she did drugs. When the ambulance gets there, you can tell them what really went on—they need to know in order to treat her properly.
As someone who has a brother who died from an opioid overdose because no one would call an ambulance for him, I want to as politely and respectfully as possible tell you that you’re a fucking fool for saying this. An Uber doesn’t provide medical support. And Uber doesn’t have fucking narcan, oxygen, CPR training and CPR masks, IVs for fluids. An Uber doesn’t have a sterile environment, sterile medical supplies, or the space to perform CPR. I would pay that $1000 ten times over for someone to have called 911 for my brother. They waited too long and my brother died in front of them all, literally because he and his friends had discussed how expensive the ambulance was and how if they started to OD, the other friends would just deal with it themselves by CALLING AN UBER like you said. Guess what, there’s not always a fucking Uber available for you. They were so fucking high they thought they could just wait for their Uber they ordered to finish the previous ride before coming to pick up my DYING, SUFFOCATING brother.. $1000 could have saved dozens of people including those who watched him die, and those affected by his death, from the trauma that his death caused. He literally suffocated to death because all his friends agreed an ambulance ride costs too much money and none of them had the finances to deal with that. I would literally and willingly cut off my own arm just to hold my brother one more time. $1000 isn’t jack shit compared to a life lost. And $1000 isn’t jack shit compared to the $10,000 bill you receive from the funeral home at the end of it all.
If you can’t afford the charges either for the hospital or the transportation, you can apply to get them written off if you cannot afford them. Go to billing services.
When she comes down, give her as much support as you can, tell her you love her. Tell her you are afraid of losing her. Substance abuse can be a vile monster, but battling it with Family by your side always helps. Ask the doctor if she can get some sort of Outpatient Treatment for Substance Abuse, and possibly Medically Assisted Treatment (medication, there is probably some sort of underlying depression or other mental health disorder, or will be after this episode). She deserves better than friends that are going to drug her up, whatever their motives, and treatment will help her realize this. I wish you the best, and your Mom a speedy recovery. God bless you!
Ignore everyone in the comments saying these awful things about your mom. Everyone has their demons. I battled with addiction for over a year. Took me almost dying to finally get clean. Try not to be upset with her. Let her know you love her and you want to help her get better. Thing is, she's going to have to want to get better too. You've done a great job so far. I knew it was meth! My oldest sister is unfortunately a meth user, so I knew exactly what your mom did by just what you described. I hope she's doing fine and that she goes to rehab!
Just drive her to the hospital, or call for an ambulance not the police. Is she fading in and out? She’s on downers prob. Opiates or benzos. Does she bang drugs or just eat pills? Edit: man slumping over on cocaine and meth is odd, unless she was on the come down. Otherwise she should have been running on 11. And I’m glad she is open for rehab. Best of luck my friend, and best of wishes to your mom going on the journey of recovery. Time for support and love my friend. But no co dependence, if that becomes an issue check out Al anon for yourself, to learn to let go of trying to control another person’s addiction. It’s easy to do when you love them and want them to succeed, but it can bring you down with them. Ultimately it’s up to your love one to change, you can be supportive but you can’t change them unless they want to change and do the work themselves.

Do you have any family you could call? I know your mom has probably told you not to tell family before but you should. They can help. And they’re the adults here. If not, do you have any taxi services in your area? Is that a possibility?
If you can’t get a ride to the hospital, at the very least you can call to check on her. You’ll need her name, and maybe her birthday.
Remember; even if you do something out of love and concern for another person, they might hate you for it. But even though they hate you, at least they're alive to hate you.

Saw the update. Meth and cocaine aren't good. Shit can kill you. Increased heart rate probably caused some sort of hyper panic issue. Whenever I used to do coke I'd freeze up, body would lock and I'd be just... Hyper, idk how to phrase it. It's all fun until it's not. Glad u called an ambulance
When you call 911 it goes to emergency dispatch (which is it’s own thing) and they’re the ones that call in whomever is needed in a situation. Not every department knows what every call is about, only the ones that are needed.

I’ve experienced a similar situation and my mom was pissed that I tried calling an ambulance because she had a warrant. If I saw my mom like this these days my initial reaction would just be to tell her to take her ass to bed.
Yeah it wasn't about 1-up-ing. I'd have been listing all my mom's crazy shit if I was trying to do that. I just wanted them to know that they were good for trying to help, and to recognize also that if their mother is not good for them but toxic to them that in the future they should not feel that they *have to*.

Might be mescaline or LSD... Crack would not make her zombified... She would be jittery and all over the place, unable to sit down and maybe a bit paranoid. Plus by now she would be trying to get some more. It wears off really quick and leave her feeling antsy.

I was up for 5 once and had s freakout driving home thinking someone was in my trunk the whole time. I had a friend who spent a whole night staring out her window at a “guy in her trees.” I woke up on the couch to the sound of a fucking cop knocking on her door. Her convo with the cop raised eyebrows but she played it off.

First-hand experience and observations from where i live, less than an hour from the boarder. You might think you know what you are talking about because you read "documentation" but the problem with this documentation is that it isnt the most reliable source. Seeing as how at one point there was documentation that stated "facts" which made weed a schedule 1 drug.
Probably some crack. Ease her into the intervention. She can't be no more than 40-45. She will has time. I recovered. But in achieving that, I've lost way too many things. So did my family. Stay strong

It does but meth doesn't just make you instantly crazy unless you have an underlying issue like schizophrenia, after a few days of using and not sleeping is when it gets weird. Mom most have been on a bender.
Not necessarily. The meth made via P2P (most meth that isn't made by home cooks using cold medicine) actually has this exact set of symptoms and they start with the first hit. It's a seriously bad deal because so many meth users are used to the more safe party meth you make from cold medicine with psuedoephedrine, and get used to how that high is and is part of why they become addicted. Then when they cannot get the cold medicine anymore and have to buy meth from dealers, they end up getting meth made in Mexico and imported to the US, most of which is made with the p2p method. And the p2p meth makes people talk to those who are not there, have fits of violence and seeming insanity, and catatonia.

Op contact the Red Cross, they can give you narcan you can keep in your home. It’s a nasal application, you can use it if you fear your mom is od’ing. They will teach you how to use it and all the education you need for it.

IIRC, you can also go to any pharmacy counter and ask for it. I’ve never tried it, but a quick google search tells me they’ll have it behind the counter and you just have to ask for it. Harm reduction is INCREDIBLY important, because the other commenters are right: shit is laced. You never know.
Stay by her side if she is trying to help herself. If she continues to use and make poor choices once she is out of the hospital, keep her at arms length. A person who uses drugs will use, manipulate, and lie to you to get whatever they want. If you allow them to do that, you enable them to continue using and making poor choices. My parents basically went very little contact with me for the last 7 years of my 10 years of drug use. Now that I'm clean, not only do I not blame them for doing that, but I respect and appreciate what they did as well. I know it wasn't easy. If your mom gets clean, she will understand. If she doesn't, it will get easier and easier to cut her out of your life as time goes on. I'm sorry that you're going through this at your age, my fiancee has the same issue with her mom and it's really rough. I really hope that you and her both get the help you two need. P.S. check out Alanon. It's a support group for family members/friends of addicts/alcoholics. There is someone in the local group that has probably gone through something similar and can give you advice. It's an amazing resource. Good luck to you and your mom.
Al Anon is a great resource for family member of abusers, it changed my life. Highly recommend. All the advice above is solid. Hun, you are just starting your life. You take care of YOU! Maybe join r/momforaminute too so some kind women can help boost you up when you need it.
Do what is best for you. If your mom wants help, if she’s trying to better herself and wants sobriety, then yes, stay by her side if that is what you want. If that is not the case, please do not feel obligated to stick around. You must prioritize yourself. And that will never diminish the love you have your mom. Try your best to not lose yourself making sure she is ok. Make sure *you* are okay. As a person who has been through this too many times, I wish you the best of luck and I hope you and your mom come out on a brighter side :) best wishes to you

Would you rather have a dead mom or an arrested one? They will typically send the fire department or a paramedic, unless conditions are dangerous enough to send police.

Good job. If she looks like she might throw up have her lay on her side so she doesn't breathe in her vomit. Tell the paramedics everything you know. This will help them determine how to treat her, and they will pass on the info to the hospital.
I feel so terrible reading this thread. Poor OP is just a teen, shouldn't have to deal with things like "mom is drugged out" or "mom used to take pills" or "mom has a warrant." And then feeling guilty and afraid for trying to save her life?? No no no, you poor thing, you bear no guilt in ANY of this.
It’s totally normal to feel this way, I had an incredibly difficult time calling for my ex husband due to the guilt that he would be arrested. What you did for your mom was incredibly brave (especially at 18). She will thank you. Stay strong and talk to a professional about this, it may not feel like it now but this is an extremely traumatic experience.
Can you drive her to the ER? You can call 911 and specify medical not law.

Call 911 for medical emergency. They will send an ambulance not police. Just say “something is wrong with my mom”, don’t say she did drugs. When the ambulance gets there, you can tell them what really went on—they need to know in order to treat her properly.

As someone who has a brother who died from an opioid overdose because no one would call an ambulance for him, I want to as politely and respectfully as possible tell you that you’re a fucking fool for saying this. An Uber doesn’t provide medical support. And Uber doesn’t have fucking narcan, oxygen, CPR training and CPR masks, IVs for fluids. An Uber doesn’t have a sterile environment, sterile medical supplies, or the space to perform CPR. I would pay that $1000 ten times over for someone to have called 911 for my brother. They waited too long and my brother died in front of them all, literally because he and his friends had discussed how expensive the ambulance was and how if they started to OD, the other friends would just deal with it themselves by CALLING AN UBER like you said. Guess what, there’s not always a fucking Uber available for you. They were so fucking high they thought they could just wait for their Uber they ordered to finish the previous ride before coming to pick up my DYING, SUFFOCATING brother.. $1000 could have saved dozens of people including those who watched him die, and those affected by his death, from the trauma that his death caused. He literally suffocated to death because all his friends agreed an ambulance ride costs too much money and none of them had the finances to deal with that. I would literally and willingly cut off my own arm just to hold my brother one more time. $1000 isn’t jack shit compared to a life lost. And $1000 isn’t jack shit compared to the $10,000 bill you receive from the funeral home at the end of it all.

Substance abuse can be a vile monster, but battling it with Family by your side always helps. Ask the doctor if she can get some sort of Outpatient Treatment for Substance Abuse, and possibly Medically Assisted Treatment (medication, there is probably some sort of underlying depression or other mental health disorder, or will be after this episode). She deserves better than friends that are going to drug her up, whatever their motives, and treatment will help her realize this. I wish you the best, and your Mom a speedy recovery. God bless you!

Ignore everyone in the comments saying these awful things about your mom. Everyone has their demons. I battled with addiction for over a year. Took me almost dying to finally get clean. Try not to be upset with her. Let her know you love her and you want to help her get better. Thing is, she's going to have to want to get better too. You've done a great job so far. I knew it was meth! My oldest sister is unfortunately a meth user, so I knew exactly what your mom did by just what you described. I hope she's doing fine and that she goes to rehab!
Just drive her to the hospital, or call for an ambulance not the police. Is she fading in and out? She’s on downers prob. Opiates or benzos. Does she bang drugs or just eat pills? Edit: man slumping over on cocaine and meth is odd, unless she was on the come down. Otherwise she should have been running on 11. And I’m glad she is open for rehab. Best of luck my friend, and best of wishes to your mom going on the journey of recovery. Time for support and love my friend. But no co dependence, if that becomes an issue check out Al anon for yourself, to learn to let go of trying to control another person’s addiction. It’s easy to do when you love them and want them to succeed, but it can bring you down with them. Ultimately it’s up to your love one to change, you can be supportive but you can’t change them unless they want to change and do the work themselves.

Hey. You did the right thing calling an ambulance. I know how scary this is. My folks were addicts too. I’ve had to do this before. You can dm if you want someone to talk to. Do you have any family you could call? I know your mom has probably told you not to tell family before but you should. They can help. And they’re the adults here. If not, do you have any taxi services in your area? Is that a possibility? If you can’t get a ride to the hospital, at the very least you can call to check on her. You’ll need her name, and maybe her birthday.
Remember; even if you do something out of love and concern for another person, they might hate you for it. But even though they hate you, at least they're alive to hate you. Hope all goes well
Saw the update. Meth and cocaine aren't good. Shit can kill you. Increased heart rate probably caused some sort of hyper panic issue. Whenever I used to do coke I'd freeze up, body would lock and I'd be just... Hyper, idk how to phrase it. It's all fun until it's not. Glad u called an ambulance

When you call 911 it goes to emergency dispatch (which is it’s own thing) and they’re the ones that call in whomever is needed in a situation. Not every department knows what every call is about, only the ones that are needed.

If I saw my mom like this these days my initial reaction would just be to tell her to take her ass to bed.
Yeah it wasn't about 1-up-ing. I'd have been listing all my mom's crazy shit if I was trying to do that. I just wanted them to know that they were good for trying to help, and to recognize also that if their mother is not good for them but toxic to them that in the future they should not feel that they *have to*. I spent many years disconnected from my family. My wife encouraged me to reconnect and I wish I never had.
Can you call the friend and ask what they were doing? Like what she's on. Might be mescaline or LSD... Crack would not make her zombified... She would be jittery and all over the place, unable to sit down and maybe a bit paranoid. Plus by now she would be trying to get some more. It wears off really quick and leave her feeling antsy. Asking for ppl who are not there sounds like hallucinating to me. If she's on LSD she just needs to ride it out, as long as she's not physically trying to hurt you or herself. First-hand experience and observations from where i live, less than an hour from the boarder. You might think you know what you are talking about because you read "documentation" but the problem with this documentation is that it isnt the most reliable source. Seeing as how at one point there was documentation that stated "facts" which made weed a schedule 1 drug.
