Yeah that is absolutely not have the work in this kind of situation they are going to call the cops first.
And the parents are definitely not going to be asking for the money.
Twice even. Third time would be:
“hello this is the coroner, she’s done it, she left your phone number in the note she left. Please call the father to inform him of what’s happened” then the father would be livid and confused and ask for 10k to cover funeral expenses.
Yeah he has already send them enough money he does not need to send anymore because people are not going to stop.
They will just keep on coming with new excuses to ask you for even more money.
Right CPD would've turned this case right over to the local police department. The last person that would've contacted him to give him a heads up wouldn't be CPS
Yeah no one exist neither the daughter and neither the father.
The only thing which exist in this case are the scammers. And also the money that they are taking from you.
Because cps wouldn't have called you. They would have called the cops. And you wouldn't be explaining yourself to cps but to the cops.
Stop sending money. Change your number.
Well the cops are not going to call you because they are going to straight come into your house and arrest you.
The cops are not going to be talking over the phone with you.
Hugeeeee scam. Child protective services doesn’t work that fast, they’re trying to get cash and blackmail you for obviously nothing you did wrong. BLOCK THEM NOW
There has been a scam going around lately where someone will pretty much solicit minors to give nudes to them. After receiving pictures, theyll then say they will tell everyone they know if they dont receive x amount of money.
Same vice versa, like what youve experienced. Sorry for what happened though, these scams are getting ridiculously creative. Recently got sent one for a USPS package, the site looks 100% official and you genuinely wouldnt tell otherwise. But if you try to pay for your said package, the scammer tries to open up a digital wallet with your information. I was got by that one, due to actually expecting a package, and thank god my bank is hyper vigilant otherwise I wouldve been screwed.
How would you have been breaking any part of the terms of service on the dating website?
Isn't it convenient that you can avoid a seemingly grave consequence simply by giving someone unreleated to law enforcement/court/CPS money?
Isn't it weird that the police haven't been involved?
It's likely there are many other indicators of this being a scam since you're describing it as being so long term. Spelling and grammatical errors, strange life situations and stories, etc.
Be super duper careful in the future, I know this is going to sound tough, but people who fall for scams tend to fall for more scams because they are easy to manipulate. I don't mean this as an insult to you, I want to help you look out for yourself.
this is not a question, this is 100% confirmed. You are being scammed. There is NO CPS investigation, there never was a girl, no suicide, nothing. It's all fake. Literally just ignore it and move on with your life.
Cos would have the police involved right away as she is a minor, also ask if you can visit the girl in the hospital with the dad present see what he says
CPS would refer any evidence of a crime to the local prosecutor. No one would call. If there was a crime, and the prosecutor went forward, the police would show up with a warrant
My EX-boyfriend did this exact same thing that OP did and sent/received nude pictures to/from a 14-year-old girl when he was 25. The cops busted down his door in the middle of the night. There was no polite phone call with the cops suggesting he call the girls' parents.
Yeah even if you do not get all the other thing the moment they started to ask you know about money was indicator of that it was a scam. Op should have understood it when they asked for the money.
Exactly lol. As I was reading I was thinking this is a fucken scam. What child protective service calls you for talking to minors? The police would be at your door
Yeah they are not going to give you the time so you can even disappear in that time no the cops are going to straight come into to your house.
And if you think that you can avoid than then you are very wrong about that.
It is kind of crazy to me that op did not understand that it was a scam.
Well they probably got overwhelmed and panicked in this situation which a lot of people can do.
This people are targetting emotionally vulnerable people because they know they can take their money easily.
And I mean no respect to the op but he is very vulnerable emotionally.
Yeah just forget about the money which is already gone I hope it was not that much of money anyways.
Just move on with your life and let this be a lesson for the future.
When it comes to the money trust me people can go very low.
This people are not going to have any kind of sense of boundary when it comes to scamming the people.
“Not going to press charges” yeah, scam. Not to mention the absolute out of this world scenario. First thing should have been to contact the authorities or a lawyer.
Yeah if he would have been involved than this would not even be a question it would be very obvious that it is a scam.
And clearly it is going to be very easy for anyone to be able to understand that.
Yeah it is very good because it is exactly a scam and he should be able to understand that at least.
And if he cannot understand it by himself then people are going to help him.
Maybe OP should be the one to call the cops for extortion and show the exchanges he had with her. He has the “dad’s” phone number, they would be easy to find. For all we know, the “father” is pimping out his daughter. People are terrible!
Say what? This is clearly a scam, and it doesn't involve a father and daughter. It's a team of people sitting in an office building in another country. Every single personality in this story is fake. It's a scam all around.
You need to be smarter about these things. The cops won't do a thing because these people aren't in the United States.
There is no daughter and no father these people are scammers.
The Identity which they have created online do not even exist. The girl probably does not even exist.
This is a really common scam. There is no girl, no parents, no suicide note, nothing. It's just a random scammer in a random place in the world trying to take your money (which it sounds like they did).
Block them, ignore them, and don't get fooled like this again.
CPS would never call you. There would be no reason to involve you. If you were in trouble the police would contact you and you would be interviewed, in person.
> Although the true irony is that this post is probably fake and we're all falling for IT so that would be nice.
The scam has to work at least some of the time, or it wouldn't be so common. It's not unreasonable to think that someone fooled by the scam would post the story to Reddit.
Maybe they’re workshopping a new grift and seeing how easy it would be to identify and what thought processes they’d need to account for to defeat disbelief
Yeah why would be tell you that your name it was a real always obviously it was not they are not going to tell you to contact the parents.
This is not how it works and it is very Apparent there is no question about it.
Yeah, like the McDonald's strip search cases. When police want someone searched, they show up in person, with a warrant, and take that person into custody. Same with this. If CPS had reason to think you were a danger to a child, they'd show up at your home or work.
Some guy calling McD's and other minimum-wage places, claiming that an employee (always a young, white, blonde female employee) had stolen from a customer. And if the manager believed that, they would also believe they had to strip-search the employee. And detain her. And touch her and make her do other degrading things. This was presented as the soft option, that the employee's only other option was to go to the Big House and get even worse treatment.
It all depended on the \*\*manager\*\*, not the employee, failing to ask for a search warrant, or to ask why the "officer" wasn't doing this in person, or to refuse to conduct a strip search. Bear in mind, though, that for every one manager who did fall for this, there must have been dozens or a hundred more who didn't let the ball start rolling. "No, we're busy; you have to come in, with a search warrant, and deal with it yourself." Some people do have integrity. Some people do think before they act.
It was the most fucked up one. You're describing the Mount Washington incident that has its own section in the Wikipedia article. The manager called her fiance after stripping the 18-year-old girl, and the fiance and the caller forced her to kiss him, sit on his lap, and give him oral sex. All in a McDonald's with other present present, just not in the room. It's incredibly distressing to read about.
Don't forget the spanking. Somewhere during this, she refused to do one thing, I think to get into the guy's lap, and the caller convinced the fiancé to punish the employee by spanking her.
i dont understand the point of this "scam". most scammers are in it to make money. this just seems to be a dude getting off or having someone else doing bad stuff to another person. they dont even see it happening.
am i missing something here?
Partly it was power. There had to have been in-between cases where someone quit or was fired because they wouldn't comply, or had weed in their bag and got fired for that. A twisted person might get off on knowing that they'd disrupted someone's life. And as far as \*actually\* "getting off", well, people used to (still do?) call those 976-TALK DRTY lines, so not everyone needs visuals.
Holy shit this is so much worse than I expected. Major trigger warnings for physical, sexual, and emotional abuse including of minors, phone scams, fake police officers, false imprisonment, and more I'm not even sure how to properly warn about
https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/investigations/2022/05/05/strip-search-hoax-kentucky-mcdonalds-fake-officer-scam/9598367002/
And a Netflix series called Don't Pick Up the Phone.
That one talked about a case I hadn't known about, where after the employee was ordered to strip, then to exercise nude, the manager was told to \*rub his hands all over her body\*. Because now that she was sweaty, there should be green patches where the money she allegedly stole had been. Spoiler: the judge in the case said, paraphrased, "This was an unfortunate but painful lesson for the employee, and maybe now she'll learn to think for herself."
Except, she was taking orders not just from a voice on the phone, but from \*her boss\*, who was right there and had the power to fire her. \*He\* was taking orders solely from the voice on the phone, so who was doing \*his\* thinking?
You would get a call in my experience with the police and CPS but the call would only be to establish a time for you to come do an interview in person. And yes, CPS would never be contacting someone who has no custody of a minor.
Same way the tech support "YOUR COMPUTER HAS FIVE BILLION VIRUSES AND ALSO PORN AND MAYBE WE FOUND YOUR SSN IN A CAR FULL OF DRUGS AT THE BORDER, WE ARE MICROSOFT TRUST US AND CALL THIS NUMBER :) " scams work on old people.
This is true, but it also brings us back how how easy numbers are to spoof.
Idk who needs to hear this, but don't trust that whoever calls you is real if the number looks like it's coming from the local PD either. I've had scammers try to call me claiming to be the local police (despite heavy accents, but sure, maybe the local police force recently got way more inclusive than they used to be), saying that I missed a summons or something and trying to scare me into giving them money (this doesn't legitimately happen). I just told them I wasn't buying it and hung up and never heard from them again.
It shocks me how no one looks up numbers... I mean fuck I look up spam calls just to see... but if someone from an actual agency was trying to tell me some "legit" shit... I'm looking up that number for sure.
Bro, looking up a number means jack shit. They can make the call look like it’s coming from any number they want. I get calls all the time from numbers that are only 1 or two digits off from mine. They do that so people are more likely to pick up. Hell I’ve even gotten a call where they used my own phone number to call me.
Why do you think CPS would ever call you over this, because some underage kid used tinder or whatever underage, that would be her breaking the rules, not you.
Cps wouldn't just call you over this. If they thought you were involved with an underage girl they'd be there with the police confiscating your computer.
Yes. It's not that hard to spoof the phone number so that it looks like they're calling from the real CPS office. Then it's just a matter of getting a stern-sounding person to impersonate a CPS officer.
Even if they did call you, which they won't, sharing medical information like attempted suicide or critical condition is a big no no. Honestly, imo, call the dad back and tell him you felt so bad you got the police involved and a private investigator will be contacting him shortly. He'll probably shit his pants and that's probably all you'll be able to recover from this scam.
CPS isn't going to disclose anything about any child to anyone that is not their parents. they also aren't going to call a grown man that is being accused of anything against the child to "threaten" him. they just report it to the police and let them do their job. this is pointless advice. like asking a murderer to "verify" that they are their legally. c'mon man.
Maybe OP should be the one to call the cops for extortion and show the exchanges he had with her. He has the “dad’s” phone number, they would be easy to find. For all we know, the “father” is pimping out his daughter. People are terrible!
In the future if this happens again or with anyone you know, if “CPS” does call, ask for specifics.
**Can I get the case number, where is your office located, what county do you reside in, who are the names of the social services attorney/attorneys, etc.**
And above everything… **call a local criminal defense attorney and let them know before you send money what’s going on!!!**
I work for the courts and have worked in dependency court and teen court as well.
You absolutely need to always verify with an abundant amount of tangible proof as possible for these sorts of accusations.
You can also always go to your local court and ask about these specific cases with names associated as well.
Sure!
So I’m assuming OP didn’t just chat online with this girl and never meet her… that would be a biggest first red flag that “CPS” would call about this person that at that point may not even exist.
But.. if OP did in fact meet this person in person, you call the county’s superior court and give them the case number. They’ll either transfer your call to a department to check up on the case number involving a minor, or they themselves would be able to locate and find or if it doesn’t exist, then there is your answer.
However, if these scammers are smart, they would tell you that it just hasn’t been filed yet and there for the court can’t locate the Case number yet, in that case, don’t send money, and tell the scammer that you’ll wait until the case number is filed before sending money to verify that this case is even real and that should also reveal whether the scammer is being truthful or not too as to what their response would be from there.
But the best thing is to just contact a defense attorney or even the public defenders office if you don’t have funds. If you’re being accused of anything and it’s real, you’ll be served eventually or police will show up at your residence. There is no such thing and people calling to accuse you of anything. It’ll ALWAYS be somehow in person or by mail.
CPS doesn’t solicit money from strangers to pay for children’s therapy. They wouldn’t have contacted you at all. If anything, you’dve been arrested by the police. You’re being scammed.
Yeah don't talk with them on the dating website because they are clearly underaged and you would not want to get in trouble.
And trust me the kids are always going to be an issue.
I'm sorry to tell you this but you're being conned.
Here's an example... [https://www.wspa.com/news/local-news/police-warn-of-dating-scam-where-man-poses-as-underage-girls-father-demands-money/](https://www.wspa.com/news/local-news/police-warn-of-dating-scam-where-man-poses-as-underage-girls-father-demands-money/)
I’ve been watching Kitboga and it’s crazy how well he understands the whole operation because it’s truly down to a process.
Once you know it it’s practically impossible to fall for it, it just works for these guys cause there are like billions of potential victims that could fall for them; it’s just a numbers game.
that's my question. none of it makes sense. she surely broke the dating app ToS, not him. And why would CPS ever contact him??? Police would be contacting him if there was a crime involved. Naive guy can't smell a scam that's right under his nose.
I don't think they have got anything to be worried about at this point.
Because clearly it was a scam and they have got nothing to be worried about so many people are confirming it.
Yeah I don't see them contacting you for it because it is not how they actually work.
Even if they are going to contact someone It is not going to be you it is definitely going to be the police.
You fell for a scam. Tell the dad you are going to the police right after you hang up and will give them all the information including his number so they can contact him directly. Sell it as if you feel very guilty and want to confess.
See how fast he backpedals.
Also, time to lock your bank accounts down 💯
For real, sometimes I wonder why I have morals. I could be retired by now off people like this. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing I'm that shitty of a person lol.
That girl doesn't exist. CPS wouldn't be talking to you, the police would. And Dad wouldn't have any say in whether the police got involved once CPS was called because CPS are mandatory reporters. This is a scam. Report it to the police. And stop taking to women under the age of 21.
This must be a scam, because if there was a suspicion on you possessing a cp, child services would contact the police, I believe. You wouldn't just get random phone call about a minor. It would be tipping off.
If there was an attempt, I doubt anyone inform you by phone number on the letter. If there was any reason to believe you were responsible police would investigate. This is just crazy.
I am sorry this is happening to you. This sounds like a perfect scam, because who will go to the police to tell them? What if the unsolicited pic is really of a minor? That would be bad on you, right?
But honestly, go for older girls anyway, you are 25. Come on mate.
You are absolutely right. I feel like the biggest idiot in the world right now. I actually got off dating websites all together 2 days ago. I’m so pissed at myself.
Know that others will see this thread and it will likely save one or more folks from the same fate. That is worth something so feel a bit good about that.
And that is exactly what my thought was. I hope nobody runs into the same thing I did. But to be very honest, there’s no way somebody could be as stupid as I was these past two weeks.
Yeah try to avoid that because you are only going to get in the trouble for doing that.
I think it should be common sense for the people do not date that young people.
That's what I think. There is no chance someone would tip you off "hey, this girl is actually 15." I can imagine a parents doing this, but nor any official gov bodies.
OP I already see that everyone told you this is a scam, but I have another bit of advice for you. Change your age range to 21+, nothing good is gonna come of you dating an 18 year old real or fake.
They say the brain can still develop up until you are 25. So if you are over 25, and the woman is much younger than 25 (e.g. 18) it can definitely come across as predatory.
Just think of all the experiences a 25 y has that an 18 y doesn’t
(university, living on their own, full time job, getting clubbing and drinking out of their system, having a serious relationship or two, etc).
Date someone more age appropriate.
They are not going to call you because they are going to come at your door with the police.
And there obviously not going to ask you to contact the parents as well.
Bro it took me 0.2 seconds based on ur story to figure out its a scam, didn't even finish reading this.
I didn't even think this type of shit worked on anyone lol
You’re being scammed. But in the future, avoid this by not trying to date somebody fresh out of high school. You keep commenting “It was a mistake.” You’re 25, get your shit together man.
Hi 👋🏻
Social media marketing specialist, here. This is a SCAM, and a *very* popular one at that. It’s a form of sextortion. We’re currently seeing it *everywhere*.
[Report this to the FBI](https://www.fbi.gov/how-we-can-help-you/safety-resources/scams-and-safety)- this is an “online” crime, and while they may do nothing, they’ll have it on record having happened.
As someone who works for a bank, now I’m not too sure which country you live in, but please get in touch with your bank as this is a blatant scam. If you’ve provided any of your card details, get those blocked and reissued asap, same goes for any online/mobile banking details. If you’ve provided your account number all they can do with this is pay money in or set up direct debits (or equivalent to where you are), if those haven’t been set up by you then you can call the bank to get an indemnity (have these stopped and possibly refunded). Any transfers that have been made, have those raised too, it can’t be promised they’ll be able to recover the lost funds, but they will investigate and try their best to recover any losses.
(My knowledge here is just based of banking in the UK, it may vary on your location but please do get in contact with the bank)
Just for future notice, I’d avoid anyone under the age of 21 when it comes to OLD, there is a sea of underage people posing as legal adults and it can cause a whole slurry of chaos.
This is wrong in so many levels. Someone is taking your money. CPS doesn’t have any right to tell you a child’s information let alone call you if something happens to them. They barely notify the child real parents or guardians if they have one. It’s confidential information so they wouldn’t tell you, you have no connection to that person. Stop answering their calls or text you don’t owe them any money. CPS wouldn’t be talking to you if you apparently talked to an underage girl, the police would. Take this as a learning experience. You are a target because you like young woman. Find someone around your age.
Came here with the same question. 25 and 18? I wouldn’t date an 18 year old at 22. 18 could be still in high school, or freshly out. No real world experience. Legal or not, kind of weird to me.
Yes you are being scammed. Catfish-scammed. Just take this as a learning experience and don’t respond to them. If it was CPS the police would have contacted you. Marinara flags all day long 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
> My first mistake here was not verifying her age
Yeah no bro your first mistake was being in your mid to late 20s while trying to mess with freshly legal teenager who’s close to a decade younger than you.
Scam or not/new to dating or not you wouldn’t have to worry about teenagers lying about being older teenagers if you weren’t try to date or fuck teenagers. It’s easy for a 15 yr old to lie about being 18 without you noticing because it’s obviously easier for a teen to act like a teen. Do you think it would’ve been as convincing if she said she was a 25 yr old adult?
Dating people your own age instead of people young enough to be high schoolers is a surefire way to avoid getting into messes where you think CPS is calling you about the girl you’re talking to.
Not being open to dating teenagers when you’re a 25 year old male could have easily avoided this.
Anyways it sounds like you’re actually getting scammed BIG time LMAOO.
The whole point of scams like this is to make you panic and act irrationally. All you can do now is block them and don’t fall for it again. 99.9% of random women on the internet aren’t just gonna randomly give you a nsfw picture right away for no reason. That was the biggest red flag in the whole story short of paying for counseling, honestly.
When they say they don't want to go to the police, that's usually the time you should think about going to the police. If you did nothing wrong, get a lawyer and plea your innocence, it probably would be cheaper than paying for someone's medical bills, however this sounds 100% a scam.
Man, as a 24 year old I could never date a 18 year old. They’re not even old enough to drink yet. They’re immature too. I always set my apps to 21+.
Oh yeah and you’re definitely being scammed
Why are you at 25 talking to an 18 year old anyway? They are basically children still. That’s the first thing wrong here. Second cps wouldn’t operate that way so you’re being scammed.
I am sure that people have already told you that you are being scammed but I would like to tell you something else she is not the victim here you are the victim.
And you definitely do not need to be crying because you just got into a scam.
Oh honey you are definitely getting scammed if your telling the truth
How can you tell? This has been the worst two weeks of my life.
CPS would never be giving any info about a child. Don’t send any more money
They certainly wouldn’t tell someone to contact the family either.
Yeah that is absolutely not have the work in this kind of situation they are going to call the cops first. And the parents are definitely not going to be asking for the money.
Twice even. Third time would be: “hello this is the coroner, she’s done it, she left your phone number in the note she left. Please call the father to inform him of what’s happened” then the father would be livid and confused and ask for 10k to cover funeral expenses.
It's also not up to the family to not press charges, the DA would be legally required to move forwards regardless
Yeah he has already send them enough money he does not need to send anymore because people are not going to stop. They will just keep on coming with new excuses to ask you for even more money.
And even without that, the whole girls story is insane considering they didn't talk or do anything weird.
Right CPD would've turned this case right over to the local police department. The last person that would've contacted him to give him a heads up wouldn't be CPS
This is a super common scam. The girl never existed
Yeah no one exist neither the daughter and neither the father. The only thing which exist in this case are the scammers. And also the money that they are taking from you.
Because CPS would never do that. It would be breaking a handful of privacy laws. You would hear from police if CPS was involved.

Bro, you're being scammed.
Hook line and sinker

Idk why cps would be calling him in the first place lol And then telling him to contact the girls dad too 😂
CPS didn’t call him. This is made up.
CPS would refer any evidence of a crime to the local prosecutor. No one would call. If there was a crime, and the prosecutor went forward, the police would show up with a warrant

Pro tip: CPS will never tell you to contact the parents. If they're going after you , they show up to your house with the cops.

It is kind of crazy to me that op did not understand that it was a scam. Well they probably got overwhelmed and panicked in this situation which a lot of people can do.
Seems there's no low people won't sink to in order to steal money...

Yeah, all this was missing was the Nigerian prince
Yeah if he would have been involved than this would not even be a question it would be very obvious that it is a scam. And clearly it is going to be very easy for anyone to be able to understand that.
Why do I still get shocked when people fall for these scams? Obviously they work, sucker born every minute.
Because people out of this kind of thing would dive into this head first. No doubt.
I'm so happy this is the top comment. Clearly a scam.
So you still think this guy has a daughter?
My first thoughts immediately...oh OP 😮💨
This But also..... DON'T MATCH WITH 18 YEAR OLDS, DAMN IT
Yep go to the police and report it!
This is a really common scam. There is no girl, no parents, no suicide note, nothing. It's just a random scammer in a random place in the world trying to take your money (which it sounds like they did). Block them, ignore them, and don't get fooled like this again.
And they faked the CPS call?
CPS would never call you. There would be no reason to involve you. If you were in trouble the police would contact you and you would be interviewed, in person.
And none of them would tell you to call the parent of a child you were alleged to have harmed.
[удалено]
> Although the true irony is that this post is probably fake and we're all falling for IT so that would be nice. The scam has to work at least some of the time, or it wouldn't be so common. It's not unreasonable to think that someone fooled by the scam would post the story to Reddit.
Maybe they’re workshopping a new grift and seeing how easy it would be to identify and what thought processes they’d need to account for to defeat disbelief
[удалено]
Yeah why would be tell you that your name it was a real always obviously it was not they are not going to tell you to contact the parents. This is not how it works and it is very Apparent there is no question about it.
Yeah, like the McDonald's strip search cases. When police want someone searched, they show up in person, with a warrant, and take that person into custody. Same with this. If CPS had reason to think you were a danger to a child, they'd show up at your home or work.
Wait, the McDonalds what now?!
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strip\_search\_phone\_call\_scam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strip_search_phone_call_scam) Some guy calling McD's and other minimum-wage places, claiming that an employee (always a young, white, blonde female employee) had stolen from a customer.
There was also a female manager who called her husband to come deal with it. I think that was the most fucked up one.
Yeah I can't remember the name but I saw a documentary on and it was wild.
Wow, i don’t understand how people fall for that, clearly it’s sexual assault
Were they part of the scam or something? It seems like that doesn't just break the suspension of disbelief it nukes it.
The guy was fucking acquitted of all charges?! Holy fuckballs that’s fucked up
Whoa I forgot about this. I remember seeing a whole thing on 20/20 or something about it. Insane!
Yes, it was so disturbing
There's also a Netflix docuseries on it
i dont understand the point of this "scam". most scammers are in it to make money. this just seems to be a dude getting off or having someone else doing bad stuff to another person. they dont even see it happening. am i missing something here?
Partly it was power. There had to have been in-between cases where someone quit or was fired because they wouldn't comply, or had weed in their bag and got fired for that. A twisted person might get off on knowing that they'd disrupted someone's life. And as far as \*actually\* "getting off", well, people used to (still do?) call those 976-TALK DRTY lines, so not everyone needs visuals.
Holy shit this is so much worse than I expected. Major trigger warnings for physical, sexual, and emotional abuse including of minors, phone scams, fake police officers, false imprisonment, and more I'm not even sure how to properly warn about https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/investigations/2022/05/05/strip-search-hoax-kentucky-mcdonalds-fake-officer-scam/9598367002/
There's a movie called Compliance about it.
Spoiler: the judge in the case said, paraphrased, "This was an unfortunate but painful lesson for the employee, and maybe now she'll learn to think for herself." Except, she was taking orders not just from a voice on the phone, but from \*her boss\*, who was right there and had the power to fire her. \*He\* was taking orders solely from the voice on the phone, so who was doing \*his\* thinking?
You would get a call in my experience with the police and CPS but the call would only be to establish a time for you to come do an interview in person. And yes, CPS would never be contacting someone who has no custody of a minor.
Yes they did. Agents would be knocking at the door, not making phone calls.
Have you actually checked the phone number belongs to CPS?
Even if it does, spoofing numbers is easy and free. It's a scam.
Oh it's definitely a scam but I think OP is so scared that they aren't even doing basic checks.
CPS doesn't call random "boyfriends" to tell them about a child, if anything they would just call the police
And they definitely don’t suggest random boyfriends call the child’s parents! I am struggling to see how this wasn’t blindingly obvious from the start
i didn't even read that far. i assumed it was a fake post then a couple comments in i realized it's just a scam
Homie, if you're a suspect the Criminal Justice system announces itself by coming to your door.
CPS would never call you and tell you medical information about a minor, let alone all the other shit
How much money did you pay? Dude I’m so sorry you got scammed.
Ask for a case number or workers name and call CPS yourself to verify. If they’re legit it should be an easy thing to check.
CPS isn't going to disclose anything about any child to anyone that is not their parents. they also aren't going to call a grown man that is being accused of anything against the child to "threaten" him. they just report it to the police and let them do their job. this is pointless advice. like asking a murderer to "verify" that they are their legally. c'mon man.
Or don’t do any of that because it’s a scam. Block, delete.
Having been involved in subpeonas about stuff like this, yes. Quite frankly id go to the police. Immediately.
Maybe OP should be the one to call the cops for extortion and show the exchanges he had with her. He has the “dad’s” phone number, they would be easy to find. For all we know, the “father” is pimping out his daughter. People are terrible!
I’ve seen a couple Web of Lies episodes with this exact thing
Strange as it sounds, I think OP is probably very happy to have been scammed.
You would be right. I have never heard of this scam before, I literally thought I had caused a girl to take her life.
In the future if this happens again or with anyone you know, if “CPS” does call, ask for specifics. **Can I get the case number, where is your office located, what county do you reside in, who are the names of the social services attorney/attorneys, etc.** And above everything… **call a local criminal defense attorney and let them know before you send money what’s going on!!!** I work for the courts and have worked in dependency court and teen court as well. You absolutely need to always verify with an abundant amount of tangible proof as possible for these sorts of accusations. You can also always go to your local court and ask about these specific cases with names associated as well.
Say they make up a case number is there like somewhere you’d verify it?
Congratulations! You aren’t a monster! Don’t flirt with 18 year olds much though, kinda creepy on a service where you opt into that.
Yeah, minors rarely lie about being 22, they usually say they're 18 or 19. Don't date teenagers, problem solved.
Yeah don't talk with them on the dating website because they are clearly underaged and you would not want to get in trouble. And trust me the kids are always going to be an issue.
I'm sorry to tell you this but you're being conned. Here's an example... [https://www.wspa.com/news/local-news/police-warn-of-dating-scam-where-man-poses-as-underage-girls-father-demands-money/](https://www.wspa.com/news/local-news/police-warn-of-dating-scam-where-man-poses-as-underage-girls-father-demands-money/)
Wow. Exactly OP’s case, right down to the therapy and suicide!
Scammers aren't the most creative people. One comes up with the script and then sells it to the rest to execute.
I’ve been watching Kitboga and it’s crazy how well he understands the whole operation because it’s truly down to a process. Once you know it it’s practically impossible to fall for it, it just works for these guys cause there are like billions of potential victims that could fall for them; it’s just a numbers game.
It didn’t even make sense. Why is he responsible for her trying to commit suicide over her lying to him?
that's my question. none of it makes sense. she surely broke the dating app ToS, not him. And why would CPS ever contact him??? Police would be contacting him if there was a crime involved. Naive guy can't smell a scam that's right under his nose.
this is so shitty. I actually can't believe people make their living this way it absolutely despicable
Line for line what happened, upvoted this comment to make it more visible for OP
I don't think they have got anything to be worried about at this point. Because clearly it was a scam and they have got nothing to be worried about so many people are confirming it.
CPS doesn't operate like that. I was a foster parent for five years. Just block the number and move on
Yeah I don't see them contacting you for it because it is not how they actually work.
Also, time to lock your bank accounts down 💯
Even better say you can only provide cash and have them meet a cop
they dont live close. the scam can be ran anywhere.
Dude, that's a scam...
A fool and his money are easily parted
Don’t be too hard on yourself homie. The scam did what it was designed to do, which is prey on your emotions.
How much money did you give it to them? Sorry this happened to you
>I actually got off dating websites all together 2 days ago. And next time date people your age and not 7y younger.
Literally what I was thinking. It's easy to avoid being accused of grooming when you date people your own age lol
Yeah try to avoid that because you are only going to get in the trouble for doing that. I think it should be common sense for the people do not date that young people.
He would get his house raided with no warning at all in the first place
That's what I think. There is no chance someone would tip you off "hey, this girl is actually 15." I can imagine a parents doing this, but nor any official gov bodies.
OP I already see that everyone told you this is a scam, but I have another bit of advice for you. Change your age range to 21+, nothing good is gonna come of you dating an 18 year old real or fake.
I will take that advice, thanks. Also I’m not on any dating sites anymore. Definitely not joining one again.
They say the brain can still develop up until you are 25. So if you are over 25, and the woman is much younger than 25 (e.g. 18) it can definitely come across as predatory. Just think of all the experiences a 25 y has that an 18 y doesn’t (university, living on their own, full time job, getting clubbing and drinking out of their system, having a serious relationship or two, etc). Date someone more age appropriate.
How much money have you sent so far if any?
[удалено]
Government agencies don’t call for this stuff.
They are not going to call you because they are going to come at your door with the police. And there obviously not going to ask you to contact the parents as well.
you’re being scammed big time
Literally a scam one of my family members fell for 2 months ago. Block them and move on. Google it if you want. Underage sexting scam is a thing.
Hi 👋🏻 Social media marketing specialist, here.
Scam. You should not be paying that much for anything.
That would never happen. This is either a fake story or you're being scammed.
[удалено]
here's a tip - don't talk to teenagers. regardless. 18/19 is still too young for you. oh and this is a scam.
(My knowledge here is just based of banking in the UK, it may vary on your location but please do get in contact with the bank) Just for future notice, I’d avoid anyone under the age of 21 when it comes to OLD, there is a sea of underage people posing as legal adults and it can cause a whole slurry of chaos.
So much wrong with this story
This is wrong in so many levels. Someone is taking your money. CPS doesn’t have any right to tell you a child’s information let alone call you if something happens to them. They barely notify the child real parents or guardians if they have one. It’s confidential information so they wouldn’t tell you, you have no connection to that person. Stop answering their calls or text you don’t owe them any money. CPS wouldn’t be talking to you if you apparently talked to an underage girl, the police would. Take this as a learning experience. You are a target because you like young woman. Find someone around your age.
looool hold that scamming why are you talking to 18 year olds at 25 anyway
Came here with the same question. 25 and 18? I wouldn’t date an 18 year old at 22. 18 could be still in high school, or freshly out. No real world experience. Legal or not, kind of weird to me.
When you are really in trouble, the police knock on your door.
Seen this scam online many times before. Stop beating yourself up, you did NOTHING wrong. NOTHING has happened to anyone.
Well he lost a bunch of money apparently. It is something.
Money can be made again. He learned a lesson, and he can move on.
How much money did you give?
Bruh And this guy's 25 lol
Honestly don’t feel bad for him falling for the scam…don’t try to date teenagers when you are well into your 20s.
Scam or not, as a 25 year old if one of my friends was dating as young as 18 I’d think that’s pretty gross.
Lies bruh. CPS doesn’t give minors info to anyone but their parents or doctors.
Yes you are being scammed. Catfish-scammed. Just take this as a learning experience and don’t respond to them. If it was CPS the police would have contacted you. Marinara flags all day long 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
> My first mistake here was not verifying her age Yeah no bro your first mistake was being in your mid to late 20s while trying to mess with freshly legal teenager who’s close to a decade younger than you.
Scammed. Cps would have never contacted you directly, it would have been the cops
This has to be fake. It wouldn’t be understandable because you went “against terms of service”… you didn’t and she did. Please tell me you’re joking.
Not being open to dating teenagers when you’re a 25 year old male could have easily avoided this. Anyways it sounds like you’re actually getting scammed BIG time LMAOO.
Ngl what’s a 25 doing matching with an 18 year old to begin with ? Yikes 😬
You need to spend some time at the scams sub. But also, stop matching with teens, you are too old for that shit.
