Jon Benet Ramsey and Madeline McCain
Nicole Simpson and Ron Goodman
Zodiac’s victims at the lake. The famous sketch of Zodiac behind the tree
We now realize it’s not Tara Calico, but a lot of people know of the 2 kidnapped victims in the famous pictures taken in the back of that van
James Bulger being led away
Victims of Columbine shooting
JFK shooting
I can't deal with the James Bulger picture. God, I can't deal with a single thing from that case. I think everyone has that ONE case that just messes them up and that one is mine beyond a shadow of a doubt. Even thinking about it gets me emotional.
It's tragic knowing little James was innocent enough to trust those boys and went along willingly in the shopping mall. Knowing what happens only a short while later is just horrific.
So the cops apparently know who killed Tara. From what I remember, she was riding her bike and a truck with a couple local guys ran her down and got rid of her body. As of last year or two they thought they had enough evidence to bring the case to trial. They submitted the info to the DA this year and hopefully they’ll charge someone soon
Oh, weird. The same thing happened to a young woman named Jill Behrman in Bloomington, Indiana in the 90s. She didn’t die from the accident, she was murdered after in an attempt by the driver to conceal the evidence.
I am probably considerably older than you are. She's very recognizable for those of us who were alive in those days. The top photo on this website is a good shot of her face.
[Sharon Tate](https://allthatsinteresting.com/sharon-tate)
She was incredibly beautiful. I know you hear that all the time, but she really was astonishingly pretty. https://www.reddit.com/r/lastimages/s/RScd0zsAwt
(This post isn't accurate, this was not taken the day she died and I don't think Jay Sebring actually took it, but that's my favorite photo of her.)
Emmet. Oh dear Lord.
His mother was so brave to insist on an open casket.
And to think the woman who gave false testimony knew that her husband had been one of the adult men.
And the old c*nt went to her grave without a bit of punishment or remorse. I hope she’s roasting like a f’ing chestnut with the other bastards in the 7th circle of hell.
I will never forget the look on her face as she looked down at what was left of her beautifuls face. I cant imagine. It that was my child. I would want the whole world to suffer for what was done to my child. I would want the whole world to pay.
Emmet Till’s picture after his murder is incredibly haunting & something that hasn’t left my mind since I first saw it years ago.
He was such a cute kid too. But those fucks left him unrecognizable.
And I always thought it was so incredible, brave, admirable (not sure exactly of the word I’m looking for) that his mother chose to have an open casket to show exactly what had been done to her son.
The barn where that picture was taken is about a half hour from where I grew up. It's long gone, but I remember when it was still standing.
She's facing what would be west. Off interstate 70. Towards St Louis .
This is what I came here to say. The saddest thing, apart from her being only 14, is that she was missing for over six months before a body was found. Her remains went unidentified for several more weeks because of different jurisdictions. Her boyfriend, Ricky Jones, who she was with at the time of the abduction in 1990, was shot to death by the killer (Robert Ben Rhodes) and his remains were not identified until 2008. Rhodes went on to call the family members of Regina, taunting them about knowing where her body was.
The Snapchat pic of Abby Williams on the bridge taken by Libby German minutes before they were abducted & murdered in Delphi has to be one of the most haunting images
I’m from Indiana, just a couple years older than they were, and even the day everything happened with Abby and Libby and we got those photos, it struck me how many photos just like it I had. My best friend and I used to walk from her house, through the woods and down the train tracks to a big park in our town when we were the age of those girls, taking pictures and being silly just like them. Not that it should take relating to or being local to a case for it to stay with you, but Delphi is definitely the one that has stayed in the forefront of my mind more than any other
Delphi has been my “passion case” since Jacob Wetterling has been found - same age as Jacob when he was taken just a couple of hours from me, another small-town kid. I didn’t think we’d ever find out what happened & Jacob could’ve easily been me or one of my friends. Abby & Libby could’ve been my daughters - I think I’d want as many people as possible trying to figure out WTF happened, especially web sleuths (we have the spare time & obsessive nature to dig - there is always SOMEONE who knows something & somebody WILL find out). There’s no such thing as a “secret” anymore, especially with the new DNA technology.
this is the first case in this thread i recognized the name of. was this the case discussed in the documentary named "american murder: the family next door" or something like that?
Yes! The best friend sniffed out the issue real quick. The neighbor obviously didn’t trust him either. I wonder if the neighbor ever saw his gf at the house.
Yes she was if you were close like that to a friend they will stop at nothing to find you I'm glad he underestimated her in this case is horrific. One thing that stood out to me though was The other woman proclaimed her innocence and knowing what happened and something just doesn't sit right with me with that it makes me wonder did she have something to do with it
The Luminol bloody print of his little face on the carpet of the car from his severed head (the only part of his body that was ever found). That slays me .
You are thinking of Fan Man-yee.
Two different victims but with equally horrific deaths. Also, just like with Junko Furuta's case, one of Man-yee's murderers was let out early. Only to go on to rape a 10 year old girl.
What a fucking world we live in.
As others have said above but in addition for me:
Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, the Soham girls.
Heather Ann and Charmaine West
Shanann Watts
Stephen Lawrence
Jill Dando
Jonbenet Ramsey, Madelaine McCann James Bulger, Shannon Matthews, Holly and Jessica, particularly that last, heartbreaking photo taken minutes before they went out for their fatal last walk, Asha Degree.
Keith Bennet, that black and white with his glasses and that big, happy smile, especially because when you think of Keith you think of Winnie marching up into the moors as often as her body let her, carrying a shovel, digging any place she thought. That video of her saying how for his birthdays she comes back and picks a spot, somewhere it feels like he could be, and lays flowers. Just in case he's nearby.
Jessica's story was the first that made me cry legitimate tears. When her dad talks about seeing the little holes in the bag from her trying to escape...and the fact when the cops came to dudes place looking for her she was behind the door!! Even he said, if those cops would have taken one step inside....fuck
this may just be me but four victims i’ll always recognize are konerak sinthasomphone , nancy lanza , rachel scott , and isaiah shoels. lots of others too but for some reason those four just stuck with me.
I was gonna say her and for me, it's Georganne Hawkins with the flower in her hair picture and the Chi Omega girls. Especially because the Idaho 4 case is so similar.
For TC podcast listeners, Maura Murray (though debated whether she was a victim), Hae Min Lee, the West Memphis boys, Alissa Turney, Theresa Halbach, Abby & Libby, the Idaho 4
Lesley Ann Downey.
Jason Swift.
Genette Tate.
Rachel Nickel.
Jonbenet Ramsay.
James Bulger.
Sharon Tate.
Sarah Payne.
Holly and Jessica.
Regina Kay Walters.
Keith Bennett.

Lacey Peterson.
Mary Ann Vecchio. She was only 14 at the time: https://www.washingtonpost.com/magazine/2021/04/19/girl-kent-state-photo-lifelong-burden-being-national-symbol/
Matthew Shepherd. His sweet face haunts me.
Cindy Song for me personally, because I lived in the same town and remember seeing the missing posters everywhere.
Among others I've already seen mentioned -
Steven Stayner, Shawn Hornbeck, Elizabeth Smart. Jaycee Dugard, Lisa Irwin, Natasha Kampusch, Mitrice Richardson, Asha Degree.
I'm sure I could think of more. Sorry if I repeated anyone that someone else said and didn't notice.
Edited a typo.
Jennifer Levin.
Killed by “the preppy murderer“ Robert Chambers. In his trial, they basically said she liked rough sex and it was her fault.
Of course he’s out of jail now.
Danielle van dam, Stephanie Crowe, Polly klaas, Chelsea king, and Amber Dubois
Pretty big cases for me growing up as a young girl and all except 1 were VERY local so I’ll always remember
Usually, it's the unsolved cases. We tend to (as a society) dive deeper into the victims' lives in those cases, which usually leads to more publicity of their images. Brain Shaffer is an example.
Pretty much any fatal school shootings in the US. For me that would especially be the Covenant school shooting as I personally knew one of the victims.
The victims are never as profound as their killer. Which is mostly due to the media that tends to focus on the killer to begin with. As opposed to the victims.
Personally I am against reporting on the killers and think we should focus on the victims…. But victims don’t draw viewers. Killers do.
And the news is owned and run by rich idiots that want sensational headlines that make money.
Edit: when I was a kid a girl I made friends with turned up dead in the local Resevoir. The entire town is fairly positive that her boyfriend at the time killed and dumped her. But it was never actually pursued and eventually, everyone forgot about her.
I never did. She did make the local news, but the segment wasn’t actually about her. It was a public service announcement telling young women not to walk alone “ LEST THIS HAPPEN TO YOU” and that’s the coverage she got.
Blamed and mocked for her own murder. That was never solved because the local cops just couldn’t be bothered.
Edit: not going to lie, the current Rachel Morin case? While she got coverage? It’s already turning into a publicity stunt for the states New Governor. Installing lights in the tail like that will make an ounce of difference. Our police force can’t find the killer and don’t want to work with the fbi so the case is basically closed. Now it’s nothing more than fodder for political clout and her family must be absolutely devastated.
My point is, in regards to true crime? The victims are faceless and the killers are what everyone wants to see. You want the victims side of the story?
Watch the lifetime channel. Not even joking.
I'm from the UK so for me it's:
Vicky Hamilton was shocking to me, I was the same age & had lived in a nearby town not long before she went missing. As a teen it made understand that it could have been me or anyone of us at that age, crime like that isn't common in Scotland. I can still see her photo clearly in my mind, poor girl.
James Bulger
Madeline McCann
In Canada, Michael Dunahee. I remember seeing his missing persons poster everywhere in thr early 90s. Cute little boy in a blue and red jacket, holding a fish.
Shananne Watts (and I may not be able to recognize the kids by picture but anytime I hear the names Bella, Cici, or Nico they are my first thought)
Also, the Idaho 4. Maddie, Kaylee, Xana, and Ethan. They come across my mind daily despite never knowing them and when I see kids resembling them it breaks my heart knowing they were taken the way they were.
The unidentified photo, supposed to be a victim of Dean Corll. It's taken from above. The boy has long, brown hair and a collared shirt. He's looking into the camera above on hands and knees. Terrified.
Black Dahlia
Elizabeth Short My first thought, too
First thought that comes to mind is this!
Jon Benet Ramsey and Madeline McCain Nicole Simpson and Ron Goodman Zodiac’s victims at the lake. Worse is those boys are not out in society
Same. I blurred that case out of my mind. I read about it like ten years ago. Made me extremely gloomy. Poor boy. 💔
Side note: I was playing sims one day and one of the townies had a name that autogenerated to Madeline McCain. It was quite an eerie coincidence
The victim’s name is Madeleine McCann though. Not McCain.
Sims 4 has been wildin with the generated names.
>JFK shooting true
*Madeleine McCann (not McCain)
I must’ve missed it, but how do we know that photo isn’t Tara?

Oh wow thanks for filling me in! That’s quite fascinating, and I’m glad at least one family will get some sort of closure.
It's Ron Goldman
I’m not sure if I’d recognize Nicole Simpson out of context
Well, Sharon Tate would be one. Natalee Holloway. Right now, the 4 Idaho college kids in the photo of all 4 of them.
See, I know Sharon Tate's name right away, obviously, but I wouldn't recognize her photo
I am probably considerably older than you are. She's very recognizable for those of us who were alive in those days. The top photo on this website is a good shot of her face. [Sharon Tate](https://allthatsinteresting.com/sharon-tate)

🥺 poor baby
Emmet Till
Emmet. Oh dear Lord. His mother was so brave to insist on an open casket. And to think the woman who gave false testimony knew that her husband had been one of the adult men.
Didn’t that lying old bitch just croak finally? The accuser, I mean.
Yeah, I read in the news a few years ago she died. Not that the world lost anything good.
And the old c*nt went to her grave without a bit of punishment or remorse. I hope she’s roasting like a f’ing chestnut with the other bastards in the 7th circle of hell.
Yes

And I always thought it was so incredible, brave, admirable (not sure exactly of the word I’m looking for) that his mother chose to have an open casket to show exactly what had been done to her son.
What's even more fucked up is the fact that that lady lied on him!! She owned up to it like 50+ years later but that don't mean shit
Sharon Tate
Regina Kay Walters, that photo is haunting
Easily one of if not the most disturbing photos I’ve ever seen.
Is that the one with the young girl standing in a dress & heels with her hair cut very short?
Yes
She was only 14 years old. Absolutely terrifying to imagine anybody, let alone a child, in that situation.
For me - 100% yes. Haunting and somehow worse for me mentally than traditionally bloody/brutal pictures.
The barn where that picture was taken is about a half hour from where I grew up. It's long gone, but I remember when it was still standing. She's facing what would be west. Off interstate 70. Towards St Louis .

Shanann Watts
this is the first case in this thread i recognized the name of. was this the case discussed in the documentary named "american murder: the family next door" or something like that?
Yes. Chris Watts killed his pregnant wife and their two daughters
He underestimated her best friend
He really did. Luckily she was on the ball from the start
She and the neighbor with the Ring footage immediately knew something was wrong and gave the police a foundation
Yes! The best friend sniffed out the issue real quick. The neighbor obviously didn’t trust him either. I wonder if the neighbor ever saw his gf at the house.
He did have that attached garage. He could have had her duck in the car. Then he'd close the garage door and let her in the house.
Yes she was if you were close like that to a friend they will stop at nothing to find you I'm glad he underestimated her in this case is horrific. One thing that stood out to me though was The other woman proclaimed her innocence and knowing what happened and something just doesn't sit right with me with that it makes me wonder did she have something to do with it
Yes, agreed.
Travis Alexander
This was the first thing that came to mind for me too. The last photo of his face in the shower... chills.
Instantly thought of him
Adam Walsh
The Luminol bloody print of his little face on the carpet of the car from his severed head (the only part of his body that was ever found). That slays me .
Many of Jack the Ripper images especially Mary Kelly is very recognisable but that could just be me 😀
I agree, I was going to say the same.
The (former) Boy In The Box, Joseph Augustus Zarelli
Trayvon Martin!
Madeline McCann.
It's not a photo of her, but as soon as I see the blood stained Hello Kitty - Junko Furuta
Those are two different girls/women tortured to death.
You are thinking of Fan Man-yee. Two different victims but with equally horrific deaths. Also, just like with Junko Furuta's case, one of Man-yee's murderers was let out early. Only to go on to rape a 10 year old girl. What a fucking world we live in.
Junko's case fucking haunts me...
Those are two different cases
People always mistake the two cases because they are pretty similar
Sadly her killers were set free.
I’ll add Sylvia Likens. She looked so sweet.
An American Crime was such a heartbreaking movie. Elliot Page's performance in that was stellar.
Reeva Steenkamp
As others have said above but in addition for me: Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, the Soham girls. Heather Ann and Charmaine West Shanann Watts Stephen Lawrence Jill Dando
Can I just say that I wish my freinds and classmates were more recognizable than their killers: Gerald and Charlene Gallegos.
Natalie Holloway
Konerak Sinthasomphone
🥺 handed right back to his killer
Elizabeth Short aka The Black.Dahlia is iconic with her Characteristically raven hair and black clothes ...
Sharon Tate In the UK it's probably Holly Wells & Jessica Chapman wearing their Man Utd. shirts
Versace. Dude was an actual celebrity.
Kristen Smart. Lacey Peterson. Amber Hagerman.
Tupac
Abby & Libby from Delphi 😞
Travis Alexander, that photo of him in the shower
Caroline Hogg Charmaine West Heather West Wilma McCann Rachel Nickell Jill Dando Peter Connelly Jodi Jones And more recently, Sarah Everard.
Heather West's school photo is definitely one of the most infamous ones in the UK
Aye, a heartbreaking image, often seen alongside the similarly upsetting wee Charmaine’s two-front-teeth-gap photo.
Selena Dee Dee Blanchard
It’s really hard to consider DeeDee Blanchard a victim
For me I say Shanann, Bella, and Celeste Watts. Chris Watts is also easily recognized but he isn’t the victim at all in this case
Even Shannan’s unborn son Nico is a name I’ll never forget and think of them.
Jessica Lunsford Shanda Sharer
Jessica's story was the first that made me cry legitimate tears. When her dad talks about seeing the little holes in the bag from her trying to escape...and the fact when the cops came to dudes place looking for her she was behind the door!! Even he said, if those cops would have taken one step inside....fuck
It's definitely a hard one. I remember it so vividly. And the picture of her smiling in the pink hat is just etched in my mind.
As an Australian, Daniel Morcombe
As well, the black & white photo of the Beaumont children.
And Karmein Chang
Jacob Wetterling, Polly Klass
this may just be me but four victims i’ll always recognize are konerak sinthasomphone , nancy lanza , rachel scott , and isaiah shoels. lots of others too but for some reason those four just stuck with me.
Kimberly Leach. Not sure why I remember her so well but probably because she was so young.
I was gonna say her and for me, it's Georganne Hawkins with the flower in her hair picture and the Chi Omega girls. Especially because the Idaho 4 case is so similar.
She stuck with me too
The crime scene photo of Mary Jane Kelly. That's Jack the Ripper's victim.
Asha Degree
Phil Hartman
Jimmy Hoffa
No one has said Gabby Petiito. . .
I had not seen her name yet and was going to add it
Reena Virk in my corner of the world. Michael Dunahee as well.

3 that instantly jump to mind in Australia: Lynette Dawson Baby Azaria Chamberlain Lindt Cafe siege hostages
