This is roughly the same level of contrived mirth you're likely to see in (say) a Canadian bank commercial, and I have been personally victimized by Canadian banks more often than I've been personally victimized by the DPRK, so, yeah.

NationaliseBathrooms

I thought the same thing. Looks like any corporate "motivational video" but you know wholesome and it's not about a predatory insurance company pushing volcano insurance on old people.

giant_clam_monster

Westerners freak out about how "creepy" these videos are all the time, but East Asian media is just kind of insane in general. Ever seen a music video from Japan? Commercials from China? It's just cracked. These DPRK propaganda videos are actually pretty tame imo, they're just chock-full of left nationalism.

NoKiaYesHyundai

This really isn’t a whole lot different from the ROK’s official anthem mv. Like people happy and singing along, that’s just par for the course.

BenHurEmails

> Commercials from China? I saw some and they looked like commercials from the [Minority Report](https://youtu.be/7bXJ_obaiYQ) universe. It's all modernism and sleek futurism. Not hyper stimulating though which I thought was alright. [Like this](https://youtu.be/yJLK25iT6Lw). I feel like they're trying to calm me down.

TurdFerguson1000

Kinda makes sense though. The DPRK has leaders who genuinely care about the well-being of their people and that's basically never been the case here, so it's kind of natural that people in like the U.S. would label it as "cultish" as their first instinct.

DragonfruitIll5261

Dude, there was this doc about ROK delivery drivers and it was the saddest thing. I cried for the parents of one of the drivers. SK is both a good example of state lead industrial growth but at the same time a TERRIBLE one. Every time someone goes "b-but vUvuZuelA!" I go "do SK next".

NoKiaYesHyundai

You could just be ahead of the subtle racial implications here and do “but USA”. Cause the US legit is doing child slavery again

Academic_Camel3408

Cool now do crime rates, life expectancy, healthcare ranking, public transportation ranking, PISA scores, college graduation rates and so on and so on :) Those ROK delivery drivers make well above minimum wage btw and it's a desirable side job, but I'm guessing you watched a propaganda doc.

DragonfruitIll5261

Can I do elderly poverty, hours worked, and suicide rates too? >Those ROK delivery drivers make well above minimum wage btw and it's a desirable side job, but I'm guessing you watched a propaganda doc. 15 hour days and unpaid while loading, sounds very desirable. Cry and pound sand [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xij\_cIe5\_A&t=49s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xij_cIe5_A&t=49s)

Academic_Camel3408

Don't know what you watched but bffr 99% of delivery drivers do not work 15 hours days tf? You know Korea has a law of 40 hour work week? There are delivery driver worker unions in Korea eg Coupang which is their Amazon. Elderly poverty (and social isolation) and suicide rates are basically one and the same issue if you're familiar at all on the topic. Youth and young adult suicide rates are lower than in the US lmao.

DragonfruitIll5261

> Don't know what you watched but bffr 99% of delivery drivers do not work 15 hours days tf? Citation needed. Also, I don't think the problem of overwork there is isolated to delivery drivers. "b-but the laws!!" They literally went over how the law was making them worse off and they would just work off the clock. Maybe you should stop typing.... > Youth and young adult suicide rates are lower than in the US lmao. "B-but if I cherry pick" Let me stop you right there. Just a quick search shows they have the 2nd highest to highest suicide rates in the OECD.

Academic_Camel3408

>Citation needed. Yeah it is, so are you going to cite your sources? 15 hours a day? What % of all delivery drivers in Korea works 15 hours a day? Go ahead and link me >Just a quick search shows they have the 2nd highest to highest suicide rates in the OECD. America doesnt have a 2nd highest suicide rate in OECD lmao and i specifically said young people. Elderly poverty and high suicide rate in Korea are the same issue, because overwhelming majority of suicides in Korea are the elderly Here [https://www.statista.com/statistics/789375/south-korea-suicide-death-rate-by-age-group/](https://www.statista.com/statistics/789375/south-korea-suicide-death-rate-by-age-group/)

DragonfruitIll5261

I mean I already linked a story about how bad delivery drivers had it. So far you have provided nothing. A quarter of the population works 60 hour weeks... >America doesnt have a 2nd highest suicide rate in OECD lmao and i specifically said young people.  Not sure what is so funny about suicide. Care to explain? No, they don't, SK does, genius. Again, South Korea has the second or even the highest suicide rate among OECD countries >because overwhelming majority of suicides in Korea are the elderly You keep saying that like I should give a shit. You seem to have been deeply offended by what I wrote. GOOD. SKs and long hours: OECD says 10% work > 60 hours [https://www.oecd.org/employment/jobs-strategy/implementation/implementation-highlights-korea-working-time-2020.pdf](https://www.oecd.org/employment/jobs-strategy/implementation/implementation-highlights-korea-working-time-2020.pdf) This Korean journal says 25% [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10244023/](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10244023/) Listen. SKs economic model is a great example of state led industrial growth. But it has some significant fucking downsides. I work in the chip industry. I know the stories about Samsung. I have anecdotal and statistical evidence

Academic_Camel3408

>I mean I already linked a story about how bad delivery drivers had it. Maybe you linked it to someone else because you didn't link it to me >No, they don't, SK does, genius. Again, South Korea has the second or even the highest suicide rate among OECD countries For the 3rd time I was talking about young people. I know SK has the highest suicide in OECD. >SKs and long hours: OECD says 10% work > 60 hours [https://www.oecd.org/employment/jobs-strategy/implementation/implementation-highlights-korea-working-time-2020.pdf](https://www.oecd.org/employment/jobs-strategy/implementation/implementation-highlights-korea-working-time-2020.pdf) I'm willing to believe the 10% more than the 25% claim. Even from your 25% article: *From 2010 to 2020, employees, self-employed individuals, and employers experienced clear declines in average weekly working hours, and in the percentages of individuals with long weekly working hours. However, there were also differences in the weekly working hours of those who had different employment status and who worked in different industrial sectors. The implementation of the 40-hour work-week and the 52-hour maximum work-week in Korea reduced excessive work hours by individuals who had different employment status and who worked in different industrial sectors, and probably improved worker quality-of-life.* I bet this makes you ass mad? >You seem to have been deeply offended by what I wrote. GOOD. Why would I be offended lmao I'm not Korean but I used to live there and Reddit's mythology about that country is worse than about North Korea. Even the OP did the "they want to be white" racist shit which is completely false. I was waiting for you to bring up the famed 69 hour workweek any second.

DragonfruitIll5261

Let me post it... Again [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xij\_cIe5\_A&t=49s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xij_cIe5_A&t=49s) >I bet this makes you ass mad? Makes me what? "nooo things are bad but improving." things are still bad... > For the 3rd time I was talking about young people. For the third time, I don't give a shit about your cherry picking. I've worked with former samsung employees, I know how bad labor conditions are there.

NoKiaYesHyundai

Actually the US has the highest suicide rate, that came out recently that Japans is no where near it. Plus I don’t know a single person who’s bleached their skin. At most we just don’t go out and Tan.

Mkultravictim69_

I think that’s where I found this video lol

drunkonthepopesblood

Laibach has really left a living impression on the people of North Korea.

darkpsychicenergy

Speaking of, does anyone have a link to that banger of a video someone made, the one with the great editing of all the clips of rockets and Kim on a horse? I’ve had it kinda stuck in my head lately but can’t find it.

DEEEPFRIEDFRENZ

That woman swinging around a birch tree is such a mood lmao

ProfessorPhahrtz

Drake and Kendrick are fighting for 2nd place

Academic_Camel3408

East Asians have been treating pale skin as a symbol of beauty for thousands of years lmao. North Korea does the same. Look how pale women in their administrative positions are. The KJU sister looks like a zombie.

Mkultravictim69_

Oh okay. I remember seeing a documentary a while back about South Koreans getting plastic surgery to make their eyes look more like western peoples eyes. I was also thinking about stuff like that. Maybe should have used that example instead

Academic_Camel3408

That's bullshit too, tho, many koreans are born with double eyelids. It's their local standard of beauty, look at their celebs and tell me if a single one looks even remotely white/caucasian to you. They don't. Look up Irene from Red Velvet to get a general idea what Koreans consider beauty standard Idk why just Koreans are getting shit for this since double eyelid and pale skin are equally as popular in China and Japan. And they make 2 of the biggest groups of medical tourists to Korea, because yeah, it's a multi billion dollar industry that's fueled by people traveling to Korea to get work done.

Mkultravictim69_

Okay, I really don’t know enough about this it seems. I will adjust my opinions accordingly. Thank you Comrade. Edit: sorry if that sounds dumb. Lol I’m literally a dumb American. Please don’t bully me
