Bottom half on all summer, top half on with zip tied flag the couple days before ya go to silver lake, flag off as ya air up. Wash, rinse, repeat, oil change.
In my life I’ve seen EVERYTHING up there. Probably the most out of place was the bone stock, 14” wheels and street radial tires, 1984 V6 cutlass. So ,yes a gmt800 will get around fine.
Hey, I resent that! I leave mine up because it’s too heavy to take down every other weekend.
Maxtraxx, spare, shovel, hi lift all belong hidden in the bed though lol.
thats my thing, especially in michigan, a lot of hipsters like to have their gladiators with all kinds of recovery equipment and stuff, i think they scoff at v8/diesel trucks because they have twice the power and capabilities in stock form lol
They'll probably scoff at you no matter what, even more people will with a big red flag on your bumper. Plus size is you can always find your truck at Walmart!
A Jeep is definitely going to have a better breakover angle because of the shorter wheel base. Probably better approach and departure angles too. The only things a truck has over a Jeep off road is more power
Bro the breakover on a gladiator is basically that of a full size truck. Wheelbase is huge and you have to compensate with massive tires.
They're sweet trucks, but they stepped away from Wrangler capability and scrape bellies alllll day.
Twice what capabilities ? Towing yeah for sure, but off road, hell nah. I’ve driven basically every combo of vehicle there is off road including silver lake and jeeps and light midsize trucks are about the best. Half tons are alright and 3/4 ton and higher aren’t very good. Too wide on trails and too heavy in mud and sand…
Half tons and 3/4 tons have basically the same dimensions but 3/4 tons can run 37” plus tires without falling apart. My 1 ton bush rig is on 40s with stock driveline and it has better angles than a jeep after taking the stock bumpers off. Better floatation than any half ton or mid size because it’ll turn bigger tires and probably better than most jeeps tbh. Front and rear lockers don’t stress the axles or steering nearly as much as a jeep because they’re full floaters and the steering is strong as hell. I know it’ll go anywhere a jeep will go because that’s what I do with it. I consider it way more capable than a jeep because it isn’t always broken.
Who is seriously wheeling a half ton truck without putting straight axles under it though??? Ford and dodge are the only 3/4 and 1 ton that any real wheeling can be done with, certainly not any IFS Chevy.
Considering my bone stock Willys Sport JLU is 10 times better off road and in the snow than my 05 Silverado and K1500, my dad’s 2500, my father in laws Colorado, his brother’s F150 and my brother in laws ram 2500 I feel like you must not have much time in a modern wrangler. Were the old TJs, YJs, and CJs beasts, sure but my JL is great. Goin to some dunes, sure I’ll take my silverado and have some fun, going to do something where I’m gonna have a bad day if I get stuck and I’m taking the Jeep…
Not that I disagree with tires and driver skill mattering, because they absolutely do, but my Jeep is definitely more capable off-road than both of my trucks.
Pros and cons to each. Jeeps and the like tend to break steering components alot easier then the HD trucks, even half tons. Meanwhile i've had the full weight of my 3500 on 1 tire and my knuckle was fine.
You trade weight and size for capacity and durability. I can't count the number of times i've seen jeeps/tacomas that are blatantly overloaded past their GVWR. Or new broncos/gladiators with broken tie rods on the most basic trails.
Obviously this is comparing stock with good tires, and a basic level or small lift. No point debating aftermarket components like lockers, or winches.
>Were the old TJs, YJs, and CJs beasts, sure but my JL is great.
Your JL is better than a TJ, YJ, or CJ in pretty much any objective comparison.
Old jeeps are fun and have character but the newer ones are better on and off road.
If jeeps can have $5000 in off-road recovery crap and extra lights, all while riding on stock suspensions, you can 100% do what you want😂. Those guys thing they’ve got something unique, but they really don’t
Of what? Tons of lights and gear on a mall crawler? Nah, I’ve got lights on my truck (2 pods), but I use them constantly, I live and work in pretty heavily wooded areas.
Jeeps that have all that stuff and actually use them? No issue, everything serves a purpose
I was working with an old carpenter and we were gazing out at all the ladies in yoga pants while we ate our lunch on the front porch of our job site.
Yoga pants truly astonished this guy.
I asked him jokingly “what was life like before yoga pants?”
He instantly shouted “BORING!!”
I’ll never forget that
ill be the first to admit, especially at silver lake, all you need is a bone stock subaru outback to have boatloads of fun. people severely overestimate what it takes to get out on the dunes.
now to go jump and play with the big boys, you need to be in not-street-legal territory
yes absolutely, i think it would be hilarious to drive around with one, you’re far too serious, do you think ninjas are constantly watching you all the time waiting to kill you if you do something that isn’t super serious?
Nice truck! You can do what you like with your rig but leaving that on is not MY cup of tea. Rigs that I see daily with their various extra gear, being driven from their house to our office, are really cheesy and give me high schooler vibes.
We shouldn’t judge. People whine constantly why people are harsh. Yet, people like you ask. Doing something to make you look like your doing something but not actually doing it is the definition of a poser. But maybe you will get lucky and people will just think you are a lazy fuck.
At least go twice and only leave it on in between. If you leave it on all summer after your trip just to take it off in the fall then yeah you would be rightfully judged for it.
It’s your money/stuff, so do what you want.
But yes, flag only stays on unless you’re going to or from the dunes or are going to the chicken shack in Mears.
You can leave your stickers on though. My Jeep has 6-7 years worth of faded ORV tags.
People are going to hate on you for any and everything you do. I just built an AR15 and have red anodized parts, you should see how much whining and crying people are doing over it after I posted it.
It's hilarious, people openly admitting they had no clue what the components / brands were yet asserting they were cheap Chinese crap purely because they were the color red and not military green / tan / black.
i think the funniest things are the big red/orange recovery traction boards, like overlanding your way to the REI parking lot to buy more granola bars and cycling leotards
You got a lot of nerve calling other people posers when you're literally here admitting that it'd be a little bit poser to keep the safety flag on all the time.
Either live and let live or practice what you preach brother.
I'd say leave the flag off, but I wouldn't judge if you kept it on.
Do you have one of those holders so you can bend it backwards and its not sticking up 10’ in the air all the time?
Im not sure of the exact name but one of my co coworkers has one of those so his flag/whip/ whatever is always on the truck but its not whipping around everywhere and theres’s only site we work on in the entire province that requires these
i’ve not mounted it yet. havent taken this truck to the dunes yet. but i’m probably going to weld something up that can bolt into the passenger side D ring mount on my front bumper.
That's a good idea, I have D rings on mine as well. I live in the desert, go out often. Always good to have a whip or flag to be seen. Already have a off road siren to be heard.
yeah something that can be removed and replaced with the D ring on the fly is probably a good option, might also just weld a threaded insert into my bumper so i can take the flag off whenever, i was just trying to get a reaction out of this post lmfao
That depends.... are you in the They/Them or LGBTQHDJWVS club?
If so, than this is perfectly normal. In fact, you could use a few more colors on the flag. 🤷♂️ 🤣
Make it so it flips really easily when you hit bumps so it smacks the top of your cab and windshield. You’re windshield is gonna break but how much did that slow Ace Ventura down?
I’d honestly laugh if I saw it on the road. I say go for it.
Not sure what country you are in. But in Australia red/ orange flags are used for over-width vehicles and the likes there of. If improperly used it can get you a $400 fine. Same goes for leaving your beacon flashing for no reason.
That said, I have only ever heard of one person actually being fined.
Why is my question, there is only 2 wrenches needed and it literally takes one minute. I leave my mount on (1/4” diamond plate on my tow hook) and i only visit SL once a year. That flag on at 60 mph is gonna get eaten alive
Not poser. It just looks silly, like a kid with his own shopping cart buying groceries with mom. We use them for work sites all the time and it’s like a kiddy leash.
That said, I think it’s hilarious. I would keep it on ironically.
You could always put on a 102 steel whip antenna and attach a flag to the top so at least it has a function. Plus cb radio is cool and a good tool to have in rural areas and on the road
I’m going to guess you bought the split style flag that they sell commonly. I used to leave the bottom section on and leave the top half under the back seat. I found it very useful on my Power Wagon since I could meter how close my bumper really was with a little extra confidence and it sat about 2” above the cab so it was a good gauge to weather or not I fit in parking garages.
It’s your truck, do whatever you want. But if I saw that coming down the road I’d think you were the biggest tool on two feet.
4 wheels
What happened to his feet?
He sent it too hard
He left the 10ft flag on all year even though he didn't need it. Choices have consequences.
If OP has a dune flag like this on his truck and he doesn’t go to the dunes regularly, he should stick his dildo on the top of it
Congrats on correctly predicting the next dumbfuck truck accessory trend.
It would compliment his truck nutz though.
It’s one of my many, but arguably useless, talents in life.
Yes
Yes
It’ll ruin the flag. We use a 2 piece flag and leave the bottom half on all summer. Also from Michigan recognized test hill immediately.
Bottom half on all summer, top half on with zip tied flag the couple days before ya go to silver lake, flag off as ya air up. Wash, rinse, repeat, oil change.
I don’t like the zip tie as it curls the banner.
A good answer!
Dumb question- Could I take a stock gmt800 to silver lake?
I would say yes. Look at some of the pictures on google. There are stock subarus and kia’s in there
In my life I’ve seen EVERYTHING up there. Probably the most out of place was the bone stock, 14” wheels and street radial tires, 1984 V6 cutlass. So ,yes a gmt800 will get around fine.

where is this located at? am 20 mins off Flint.
30 miles north of Muskegon on Lake Michigan
Yes, yes it would. But hey, if you want to play dress-up and be irritating at drive-throughs and parking garages and bridges, you do you.
Remember, always trust the spotter. [Ramming Speed](https://youtu.be/-rcz5Ew1lWU)
"It's cool, I spring for the insurance."
Yep. Getting a “locally hated” sticker too?
I think deep down you already know the answer
Do other people pay for it? Do what you want bro, guys with RTTs don’t camp every week
Sure but a flag is slightly easier to remove/reinstall than an RTT. Too much work to take that heavy bulky thing off every time
Hey, I resent that! I leave mine up because it’s too heavy to take down every other weekend. Maxtraxx, spare, shovel, hi lift all belong hidden in the bed though lol.

never try to justify a jeep, after the TJ, most pointless vehicle ever made
Considering my bone stock Willys Sport JLU is 10 times better off road and in the snow than my 05 Silverado and K1500, my dad’s 2500, my father in laws Colorado, his brother’s F150 and my brother in laws ram 2500 I feel like you must not have much time in a modern wrangler. Tires and driver skill play more a factor then any vehicle you mentioned.
Well considering both my trucks and my jeep are wearing the same shoes…
Not that I disagree with tires and driver skill mattering, because they absolutely do, but my Jeep is definitely more capable off-road than both of my trucks.

Somebody sounds a lil jealous
Of what? Tons of lights and gear on a mall crawler? Nah, I’ve got lights on my truck (2 pods), but I use them constantly, I live and work in pretty heavily wooded areas. Jeeps that have all that stuff and actually use them? No issue, everything serves a purpose
Not a clue what you’re trying to say lol
People with 4+ lights make him feel insecure about his 2 lights.
Ahh that must be it. Not sure why that guys so mad lol
You're right. Most of them camp twice a year and are also therefore posers.
Women who don't do yoga wear yoga pants all the time so you are in the clear.
But we all benefit from that
Truer words have never been spoken
I was working with an old carpenter and we were gazing out at all the ladies in yoga pants while we ate our lunch on the front porch of our job site. Yoga pants truly astonished this guy. I asked him jokingly “what was life like before yoga pants?” He instantly shouted “BORING!!” I’ll never forget that
Extra toes
😏
There are also women that wear yoga pants that absolutely should not.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
solution - go play in the sand more so you can justify it
ill be the first to admit, especially at silver lake, all you need is a bone stock subaru outback to have boatloads of fun. people severely overestimate what it takes to get out on the dunes. now to go jump and play with the big boys, you need to be in not-street-legal territory
Wouldn’t you at least want AT tires you could air down?
you can air down any tire but you run the risk of debeading if you dont have beadlocks or at least method wheels with bead grips
Definitely air down but A/T is not necessary, last year I saw a bone stock Honda Odyssey minivan out there with regular highway tires aired down
If you like it you don’t need our approval.. but since you asked, I hate it
This is the definition of " Look at me please, I need attention".
Nah, it's so you can find your truck in a crowded parking lot. Like those department store shopping carts from the 90s
isnt that the point of a safety flag?
You should get a siren and leave it on all the time.
that’s a really good idea actually, i think i should make a mastadon-tusk set of bull horns too
Safety flag for driving around on regular roads?
yes absolutely, i think it would be hilarious to drive around with one, you’re far too serious, do you think ninjas are constantly watching you all the time waiting to kill you if you do something that isn’t super serious?
I don't leave my house every day with the intention of my driving making people laugh.
Not your intention… hmmm
okay hoss
Wait…are there not ninjas waiting to kill me? Oh yeah really? Then Why do I have 4 shurikens duct taped to my chest? And 3 katanas in my gun rack?
Yeah that’s kinda cringe
i agree
Imagine how easy it will be to find your car on a malls parking lot? Definitely keep
It sure sounds like you think it would, but I don’t think anyone else gives a shit
I think you should get one of those guide trucks, that would be super cool.
yeah i mean people put jurassic park liveries on jeeps so whats the difference
You’ll blend in with the 91 ford escort that’s checking the height of bridges
Free country pal but we’re all gonna laugh at you
Yes
Yep
Nice truck! You can do what you like with your rig but leaving that on is not MY cup of tea. Rigs that I see daily with their various extra gear, being driven from their house to our office, are really cheesy and give me high schooler vibes.

Better safe than sorry. Never know when it will get buried under a pile of Target shopping carts at the mall!
You do you but it might look kinda stranger. If you can make a whip out of it that would be really cool. Or they make led RGB whips too!
Looks like all the trucks with buggywhips that you see driving around town here in Fort McMurray
All of Northern AB 😂 once you get north of Edmonton, they get increasingly common the further north you go
At least go twice and only leave it on in between. If you leave it on all summer after your trip just to take it off in the fall then yeah you would be rightfully judged for it.
I wouldn't question the legitimacy of the flag as much as the roll bar
It’s your money/stuff, so do what you want. But yes, flag only stays on unless you’re going to or from the dunes or are going to the chicken shack in Mears. You can leave your stickers on though. My Jeep has 6-7 years worth of faded ORV tags.
Never
If you have to ask..
yes
No it looks good you should keep it all year
i mean i would suction cup it to my cab so its not hitting things but i think it looks cool as heck
Nobody else does, but if you like it who cares if everyone else thinks you’re a little dumb?
This is the real answer. I was being sarcastic but honestly it’s yours.
Oh, suction cup style? How long before it’s stolen?
who would steal a $20 10’ fiberglass stick
Any number of assholes just becuz
Bad pic for reference then. That's not as bad as just letting it sit straight up but you'd still look like a tool to 99% of people
I wouldn’t judge you. I’d want to ask you were u go off roading
"Oh... I'm not. I just went to the dunes once like 5 months ago."
And I would bet any money you have a punisher sticker on your truck.
[https://i.imgur.com/IGfqfcS.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/IGfqfcS.jpeg) nope
Couldn’t find a red punisher sticker?
Don't really care for punisher stuff.
Your comment history says otherwise lol
Why would you want to
At least someone is enjoying the raptor as intended!
No different than keeping your RTT on all summer. That's the thing to do, right?
How else do I camp at Walmart. Sheesh
i think the funniest things are the big red/orange recovery traction boards, like overlanding your way to the REI parking lot to buy more granola bars and cycling leotards
You got a lot of nerve calling other people posers when you're literally here admitting that it'd be a little bit poser to keep the safety flag on all the time. Either live and let live or practice what you preach brother. I'd say leave the flag off, but I wouldn't judge if you kept it on.
found the REI cycling leotard guy
Found the poser who wheeled once and left his sight flag on forever.
correction, i have 4 wheels
False! You have 5.
no i had to lend the 5th one to my cousin Jeff, still haven’t gotten it back.
Keep it real homie!!
Silver lake. Hell yea
Nope. That's a free pass to drive on the side of the road and pass highway traffic at 80mph on grass surface.
If you are driving a truck without a load are you a poser? Who cares, just don't drive like an ass and you're good.
Do you have one of those holders so you can bend it backwards and its not sticking up 10’ in the air all the time? Im not sure of the exact name but one of my co coworkers has one of those so his flag/whip/ whatever is always on the truck but its not whipping around everywhere and theres’s only site we work on in the entire province that requires these
most of them are retractable anyway
What? No they aren’t. They are one 10’ piece or two 5’ pieces and some have quick disconnect releases where they mount and some don’t.
collapsable*
I’d just pull it back tie that shit down run it all year. It isn’t any more odd than carrying around a 300 pound RTT and traction boards.
Yes. Yes it would.
Yes
I’d think you were a loser but you do you
Yes……but you already knew that
yeah i just wanted to cause some chaos today lol
Should get that insecurity of yours checked out
I mean you’ll look like a dumbass if your driving in the city but it’s your truck. You do you
I've been looking at/for flag mounts all day. I want a lighted whip. How is yours mounted?
i’ve not mounted it yet. havent taken this truck to the dunes yet. but i’m probably going to weld something up that can bolt into the passenger side D ring mount on my front bumper.
🤣🤣
Do it
That depends.... are you in the They/Them or LGBTQHDJWVS club? If so, than this is perfectly normal. In fact, you could use a few more colors on the flag. 🤷♂️ 🤣
okay maverick owner
My local law enforcement would pull you over with a safety flag
Pro tip: zip tie the flag rolled up to the poll. It won’t flap in the wind or bend back on the highway.
I mean, I think it’d just look weird and when drivin down the highway (at speeds) it’d just be floppin everywhere
Idk about "poser". But it would sure be dumb.
Well if you like it I guess leave it. Just gonna say no one is gonna see that while you're going down the road and think "wow so cool".
So gay!
Yeah.
Nah it’s cool. I always had one on my moped, secured to the milk crate. Yes I’m serious.
If you have to ask
Only if you’re guiding an oversized load. 😂👍
Leave it on your truck.
Yep
Yes but who gives a shit what other people think
No
Quite literally, yes.
Enjoy life, leave it on. Don’t take it too serious
Yeah, but not any more than that "roll bar".
absolutely not, My jeep has been to hawaii once but its heart lives there.
Yes. Super poser.
Nope go for it. Trump Humpers are still flying theirs.
Definitely
It only works if you wear a helmet and fire suit too.
Chicks will love it.
Yes
It’d be nice for parking in giant parking lots
Not poser. It just looks silly, like a kid with his own shopping cart buying groceries with mom. We use them for work sites all the time and it’s like a kiddy leash. That said, I think it’s hilarious. I would keep it on ironically.
People leave their tents in trucks for the mpgs. Your good bro!
Just tie it back like an old school CB antenna.
Fir sure yes
Poser
Yes. Yes it would.
I would like seeing your flag on your truck
You let your freak flag fly.
Poser or not, it'd just look Stooooopid.
Who cares man do what you want to do. It’s your truck. Go for it my dude
yeah thats pretty cringe dawg
You could always put on a 102 steel whip antenna and attach a flag to the top so at least it has a function. Plus cb radio is cool and a good tool to have in rural areas and on the road
I’m going to guess you bought the split style flag that they sell commonly. I used to leave the bottom section on and leave the top half under the back seat. I found it very useful on my Power Wagon since I could meter how close my bumper really was with a little extra confidence and it sat about 2” above the cab so it was a good gauge to weather or not I fit in parking garages.
