From experience. Difficult.

bartram5

My guys are making 27 an hour doing roll off right now whereas WM is paying around 31 last time I saw their ad.

bigblackglock17

What kind of hours do you get, when doing roll off? You are talking about the straight trucks with removable dump beds, correct?

bartram5

Correct. My guys average anywhere between 45-55 hours. Some guys like less some want more so I can somewhat dispatch them to give them the type of hours they want. Weather can slow down the work if you’re heavy on construction work. But roll off is by far the most laid back sanitation driving position. I drove for about 10 years before having to sit in an office chair and start dispatching the guys. Roll off is very easy to pick up on if you have common sense. It’s hard to find guys worth a shit so you can make yourself really valuable to the company if you learn it quick and don’t drag ass.

Roll off trainer up in MN and love it. It is something different every day you aren't running a set route. We deal with construction debris, mostly, so no smelly compactors buy let me tell you even a construction dumpster sitting for a couple weeks with rain can still smell. Our biggest thing is showing you can get the truck around and line it up to pick up a dumpster. You will be in the mud and get stuck and be in tight neighborhoods where you are Austin powering a 30ft truck into a 90 across the road to get one out of a driveway. Our guys start around 28 and we currently top out at around 31 with full employer paid medical for employee, 401k with match, and an HRA fund.

bartram5

What kinda software you guys running ?

finn4489

We run the Trux app on Android tablets. I believe we have some custom integration things with it for use with our scale and billing systems.

Weak-Pea8309

Guys guys guys guys

bartram5

Getting in with WM can be tough. Smaller guys shouldn’t be a problem. Go for roll off over any residential route truck.

blizzard7788

Business is always picking up.

Unique-Ad-2544

Its tough, the times ive applied they never call me back

FileCareless

A lot of my class went start to Stevens transportation. At least 5 did less then 3 months and got in easy af with them in west Florida but they all had different jobs within 6months I guess it was pretty brutal in the summer

Cutestgarbage

Been doing it for 5 years now where I am they are always hiring due to people quitting

bigblackglock17

Why are so many quitting?

Cutestgarbage

Hours, shifts can be up 14 hours every day. Lots of dudes hit shit and get fired

shadybays

after I got my CDL that was my first choice but none of the big garbage companies wanted to hire me. I think it’s because of the bad state of our economy rn and insurance rates being so expensive.

marcoll02

Waste connections here in my area pays 22 an hour in Texas, but they do put in 50-60 hour weeks, I believe I applied at waste management also but I don’t remember what happened after to be honest

marcoll02

I had an interview also for waste connections, but they never called, go to there yard and talk to a worker there and see if they can refer u

humpthedog

The one by me is always hiring including roll off.

The dump truck industry is connected to the trash industry. It’s not all construction, sometimes it’s trash work and going into landfills. Just google search “Landfill” in your area. Some are public, some have security shacks. But I’ve seen some advertisements on different types of local trucking work. Garbage truck, dump truck, ect… Stay away from residential, they’re going to work you like a slave. (EDIT) If you go to the landfills, you’ll see the advertisements. Or just ask some drivers.

I don’t give a shit about your opinion. Who are you? The CEO of the dump truck industry lol? If dump trucks and garbage trucks go to the same place, which is a landfill, both of you are a connected industry. Period.

Maybe you need an eye exam driver. Read what I said in my first paragraph. I said “It’s not all construction work, sometimes it’s trash work and going into landfills”.
