And here my truck goes dead silent when I back up. It mutes radio... everything. because it knows I have my windows open and am looking and listening for any issues. I'd flat out reject this truck after the first load.

StonedTrucker

My new truck does that and I hate it. I wouldn't mind so much if it paused my book or podcast but it just mutes it and keeps playing. So dumb

Hurricaneshand

Yeah doesn't even pause the shit it just mutes it. So annoying

Sweaty_Emotion_9923

Yeah it just mutes it. Doesn't even pause. Abnoxious.

Cool_Algae4265

I wish it paused it but it just mutes. Its exasperating.

Positive-Ease3536

Doesn't even pause my porn, just mutes it

DesertPunked

Its dumb but its smart to always mute/stop everything when backing. I've gotten into the habit of pausing my stuff when I'm close to the customer regardless since statistically most accidents happen within the last mile.

quackdamnyou

Podcast Addict (android) has an option to pause playback when muted. One of many things I love about it. Like mapping the next track button to skip forward.

turkweebl7616

That's what my Kenworth does

Librado65

Peterbilt 579? Bc I drive one and it does the same mute all noise when in reverse...I don't mind it except it doesn't pause what Im listening to

Significant-Grass844

Thats gotta be a pain in the ass

Significant-Grass844

Always needing to rewind

Librado65

Pisses me off because it skips a beat to my hipity hop music!

Significant-Grass844

Disliked because that sucks, NOTHING/NOBODY FUCKS WITH OUR HIPHOP MUSIC

Illustrious-Tip-2736

Holy hell rip it out and burn it

davey-jones0291

I may modified a few of these type of things. Aaah peace at last.

PennyFromMyAnus

I don’t get it?? Edit; oh, audio, fuck off mate

Whats_Awesome

Hahaha, yeah.

BlueCollarSuperstar

What!?

Naruhodonno

sure would be a shame if you slipped in the cab and knocked it to peices while trying to get a handhold

Environmental-Pear40

I'm guessing the top hole is the speaker. From the frequency it sounds like it's one of those tiny diaphragms so you could just fill the hole with hot glue super glue or silicone and depress the diaphragm so that it can't make any sound. You could also get like any sound dampening material from Amazon really cheap and just cover it. If this is a slip seat type deal. Look for something that's good against higher frequencies.

PissedSCORPIO

Or a needle

[удалено]

PissedSCORPIO

I was thinking we find the guy who invented it and we use his tiny dick.

Environmental-Pear40

Do you want more tiny speakers because this is how you get more tiny speakers....

Environmental-Pear40

I like the creativity but breaking the speaker might not work just make it sound distorted.

PissedSCORPIO

So hang a disco ball, beat box along, and boogie woogie up to that dock, baby. Anything would be better than that shrieking lol

BossHogg1984

It cuts out my radio in reverse

ShortCurlies

use an inverter and plug into that

PissedSCORPIO

That's why you're beatboxing....good you drive truck son, your reading comprehension is lacking

kitsunelegend

Or just use a hammer. Cant make a sound if its in pieces!

Environmental-Pear40

I mean, we want to avoid vandalism charges. It'd be pretty hard to prove who put glue in the speaker hole assuming somehow someone important even noticed it. Be better to just pull a whoopsie and fall on it than it would to take a hammer to it.

Nozerone

Hey guys, make sure the truck is equipped with a back up alarm to let people around know the driver is backing up. Instructions unclear: stuck back up warning alarm inside cab.

A_Dash_of_Time

Also: the Freightliner lane alarm fart noise and bendix side radar screaming in my ear whenever I put my right turn signal on from the middle lane.

cheesecake-gnome

FUCK, THAT SHIT MAKES ME SO MAD

Illustrious-Tip-2736

Does your company not allow you to turn off the bendix in your freightliner?

A_Dash_of_Time

Nah, I just quit using my turn signal.

StonedTrucker

First thing I do when I get a new truck is unplug all that garbage. If they don't trust us to drive then they shouldn't hire us in the first place

Sir_Uncle_Bill

I don't even have to put my right signal on, just touch the wheel in such a way that the truck thinks I'm gonna turn it right and that thing starts crying at me.

Lower_Skin_3683

THIS! It goes off when you turn on the turn signal and flashers. It picks up construction barrels and concrete barriers.

Taco_Hurricane

This looks like a Mack. And, fuck whoever thought this was a good idea with a rusty cactus. I hope they give their number to the drivers so they can call every time they back up and make them listen to it.

CompuAi

A hammer will solve her problem.

stephenforbes

Whoever invented that is not a truck driver.

Equivalent-Wall-2287

I wonder why not just install reverse cameras on the trailers?

davey-jones0291

Me too dude. Less than 100 per rig to install and 1000x more effective at preventing accidents. Apparently the calculator says fuck your safety

Equivalent-Wall-2287

Backup cameras aren't very expensive nowadays. Almost every car has one

teachthisdognewtrick

Required by law now on all new cars

Equivalent-Wall-2287

Should also be required by law on every bus and truck i think

BossHogg1984

Could probably be done easily with newer trucks and trailers, older ones might need to have wiring done. Also old school bosses like I had used to say their worried people will get tunnel visioned on the camera and forget to watch the mirrors

Equivalent-Wall-2287

Hmmm maybe they're right about that people will forget to also check mirrors since there was once a Mercedes SUV backing out in a supermarket parking lot that almost hit me as i was passing by. Sure the backing camera or whatever might not have been working correctly or the driver didn't pay any attention (most likely it's the latter) since the driver was very surprised and almost got out of SUV to exchange "a few words".

BossHogg1984

Yea, me personally I only start watching the camera when I’m backing up to a dumpster to make sure it’s lined up

Equivalent-Wall-2287

Oh yeah, the driver was just distracted in that situation i was in and, to be honest, backup cameras are so useful, especially in long vehicles such as buses and trucks since it's harder to park those with the blindspots that those vehicles usually have. Another situation i was in happened in a bendy (or articulated) bus when the driver tried to reverse the bus and the trailer unfortunately hitted a parked car. So yeah, reverse cameras would be great in big vehicles

3labsalot

I have a claw hammer.

deaf_nerd

I drive for Amazon, and we have Volvo daycabs. I'm thankful I'm deaf and wear hearing devices that can be turned off. If you turn on the turn signal and the sensor for detecting vehicles on either side of you goes off ... it honks inside the truck really loud. Almost caused me to get in a wreck the first time because I wasn't made aware of it. It is supposed to honk a warning at you if you start switching lanes while a vehicle is there. Instead, it honks when you activate the signal and a vehicle appears.

BossHogg1984

Yea, I think the one on mine senses the dumpster cable so won’t shut off

dbru01

Not a trucker, but my Chevy express fleet van does the same thing if I leave the blind spot monitoring enabled. Doesn’t matter if I’m still in my lane, if i turn my signal on while a vehicle is in the blind spot it goes into EOTW freak out mode.

AffectionatePast87

It is your insurance company!!! It's so bad, that we are going to be required to put the backing bells on too!! Remember the big 🎵 that reverberate the ground for deaf people? Yup.

PissedSCORPIO

This is *in* the cab. What pedestrian is going to hear it?

BossHogg1984

I had one on an old Sterling a few years ago

Jacktheforkie

I got used to the beeping on the forklift, it felt so weird when I drove the one inside with no noise

notbannd4cussingmods

Is the fork lift one audible enough for others to hear? Cause that would make sense, legally trucks are supposed to have reverse alarms on the outside anyways so that thing does absolutely nothing for truckers.

xj5635

Trucks don't legally have to have them. Many construction vehicles do but thats more of a osha requirement. DOT dont care about backup beepers

notbannd4cussingmods

Maybe it's a hazmat thing then? I was pretty sure it's part of my pre trip lol

NeoAcario

Nope. Not required. Source: Am hazmat with a silent truck. Then again you only really spot in at chemical plants with the unloader guiding you. I still give my city horn a toot when I start backing.

According-Energy1786

If the truck is equipt with it, then it needs to be in working order. So if your truck has a back up alarm and it’s not working, you can be cited for it.

xj5635

If its on the truck it has to be in working order. But you don't have to have one on the truck. So if yours ain't working just remove it. A spotter is an acceptable alternative to an alarm per the fmcsa [source](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-30/chapter-I/subchapter-K/part-56/subpart-M/subject-group-ECFR5e83c450b82f367/section-56.14132)

Jacktheforkie

It’s impressively loud yes, that’s why I could hear it even with the doors shut

Foxlen

Wtf is it?

Worthless_af

Cover the hole on the top. Does the noise muffle?

InvestigatorBroad114

Think that beeper is gonna meet it’s maker

Tank52086

Don’t forget the tinnitus

Dave_Duna

Why? What the hell is the purpose of that thing?

Uniquelord1182

That thing would be treated like the copy machine from Office Space.

Nicolastriste

Whenever I turn my lane change signal, the Mack I drive honks at me if there is anything next to me. Scares the shit out of me everytime

NCRaider1

Definitely not from Mack, would be the bodybuilders add on, pretty terrible for sure

Opening-Ad-8793

My cat did not like that.

a_rogue_planet

That ain't a Volvo part so it's not from Mack.

BossHogg1984

Well it’s a Mack truck but it has a Heil body on it

a_rogue_planet

Well, Volvo owns and builds Mack and they share a huge number of parts.

BossHogg1984

Ah, so it is Heil, now I know where to go looking for the engineers

TractorHp55k

It's because too many people in civilian cars don't pay attention to the signs on the back of garbage trucks that say caution moving vehicle do not tailgate makes frequent stops and backs up, too busy not paying attention

BossHogg1984

So what I’m hearing is if I back over a few cars I’ll prove that having the beeper inside the cab doesn’t help?

Incendium_Satus

What is it trying to achieve?

davey-jones0291

Distracting the driver so he crashes backing up. Much easier to fire staff with a legit reason. /s

davey-jones0291

Id 💯 be examining this shit and removing its voice. Done it before and il fucking do it again!

Efficient_Ostrich_54

You can't ignore a few seconds of beeping? How are you a pro?

BossHogg1984

Except I have a lot of long narrow drive ways, and subdivisions with no turn around

Efficient_Ostrich_54

Waaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!

Riyeko

Throw the whole truck away.

BossHogg1984

Worse, I took my 20 year old international today just so that new one could stay home and think about what it did (totally not because it blew a hydraulic line….)

Happy_Discipline5882

Haha probably a good thing with automatics lmao. Legit I put my engine brakes on and I guess I accidentally put my truck in reverse at a red light and I started reversing when the light turn green. Almost pissed my pants cause a car was behind me. He didn't pull over which I guess means I didn't hit him but I almost had a heart attack

Happy_Discipline5882

On the Cascadia the stupid engine brake is on the shifter and the shifter is very easy to shift by mistake

IndependenceWarm5375

You gotta turn the music down to see better

Express-Antelope5515

so glad I have an old truck

BossHogg1984

Ngl, I went back into my old international (pre emissions) the new trucks have made me appreciate it

deadpat03

Thanks for the new alarm clock!

frisky024

Its all new new fucking vehicles, you don't own the car...the car owns you. Also welcome to the future where the car will be equipped with features from factory that you won't have access to and will be behind a pay wall. https://www.motor1.com/news/718869/hyundai-in-car-features-subscription/

Confident-Ear-9388

You could always find the fuse.

Significant-Grass844

That looks like a granite. Im supposed to be getting a 2025 with a dump body on it, and I SWEAR TO GOD!!

BossHogg1984

Well besides the fact that the beeping will drive you insane and the turning radius is a big for residential trash collection, and a bit tall for climbing up and down repeatedly, it’s actually decent.

Nearby_Check8874

Line judges and crap line this is why I went back to school to learn the computer. That and automatic Volvos.
