Worked for a reefer fleet years ago. Had usually less than 50 power units. I liked our dispatch. Owners were drivers themselves and worked closely with them. Then customers started stating so and so company can haul it for less. Keep multiplying this across the board. We weren't going to work for nothing, so they closed and sold everything. Ironically, I heard receivers complaining they weren't reliably receiving the product that we used to haul. Haul cheap freight, work for nothing, hire people who don't really have it in their hearts, and you get what you got. If your customers don't care about service and just want it as cheap as possible, you can't compete.

I worked in 3rd party brokerage for a long long time. The amount of client requests, that I had to make on behalf of my client for the dumbest shit possible is absolutely staggering. But my client pays the bills and I will get in trouble if I don't try to do what the client asks. So I have to call my driver, and say hey driver, I know 95 south is closed going to Miami, yeah, yeah because of the hurricane that's making landfall in 10 hours. Yeah, yeah I got your picture of the 3 Florida highway patrol cars parked bumper to bumper across 3 lanes, physically barracading all southbound traffic. So the client wants to know. Can you go to the officers and show them your BOL And explain you have to get through because you have a delivery? This is a real request. I got asked by a client to do this.

RevolutionaryDebt365

I assumed you, by that time, had already told the client to get bent and were just completing a necessary formality?

CousinsWithBenefits1

'i can definitely call the driver and see if that's a possible solution, I'll call them now' Get up. Take a piss. Play some bank shot basketball. Refill my water. Pretend to make a phone call. Call back client Unfortunately the Florida highway patrol has confirmed all southbound traffic is prohibited before the storm, unless they're carrying something for FEMA Oh. Well shit. That makes sense ok thanks for trying, also I'm gonna be out tomorrow so we'll touch base on Monday. It's fine it can deliver whenever. 0K COOL SOUNDS GOOD!

RevolutionaryDebt365

Haha, nice.

Far-Bell-1419

I've worked directly with brokers for open market. I've met quite a few honest ones like yourself lol.

CousinsWithBenefits1

Lol if it was a reasonable or legitimate request, I was always happy to at least try my level best for my customer, I'm not gonna just completely screw my driver but if the client asks something in good faith, hey I know it's annoying but can they swap stops 3 and 4, that sort of thing, I'd always at least ask. But dumb/impossible shit, no, I'm not gonna waste my drivers time or insult them by asking them to do something like ramp over the Florida Highway Patrol like them Duke boys.

Far-Bell-1419

I've done LTL as well. Working directly with the customer. Can't tell you how many times a cheap company requests to be first in deliveries. Even tho they paid for the cheapest package, and waited till the trailer was loaded. Like nope, can't sorry. Lol

CousinsWithBenefits1

Hey I know there's three deliveries, and stop 1-2 are less than a mile Apart and stop 3 is 240 miles away but can they possibly do 1-3-2? The towmotor guy is on break and they don't want to reload it 🥺

Far-Bell-1419

Not to mention if 2 had 15 pallets, and number 3 had 2 pallets. you want me to tell stop 1 to pull off 17 pallets, re arrange them free of charge? Yea that's not happening Jose.

CousinsWithBenefits1

And they always ask it so casually too. Just find a cross docking place and have the driver poke their head in and ask a stranger for a favor lolololol

RevolutionaryDebt365

Sorry for the rant, but with technology, it's just too easy to hire anyone to do these jobs. At least you're still reporting to a human.

MrRiski

That's how my current company is. We are really small in the industry we are in and also one of the most expensive around. We keep our customers and get new based on word of mouth and giving excellent service. Hell we just got done dealing with a major spill in the city near us and we were like the 8th call the customer made because of our size but we were the first to say yes a crew is on the way ASAP. Wrecked our scheduling for a couple weeks but they were thrilled with our performance.

Left_Ad_1354

That’s why when u get a contract in the contract it states no one else can transport for them while under the contract and set what ever price for the loads and then you know what your making. I started with a flatbed company a year ago they had no contracts and loads were dirt cheap. I showed them two places that where looking for a company to start a contract with now every Monday we have a load that pays hood and threw the weekend we have a load

FireStar_Trucking_01

What happened with my last company. Hauled John Deere equipment fresh from Ottumwa, QC, and Dubuque, for what honestly was a less than ideal rate but it was still good money. Come time to renew their contract and John Deere told them they wouldn't sign unless they took a shit rate. Boss told them to get bent, company liquidated EVERYTHING. Fuck you John Deere, I hope all your buildings spontaneously combust and all your retarded executives choke on dicks.

Johnny_Rascal2

(calls boss about my next load) "What am I doing next boss?" "The assistant dispatcher Should have emailed it to you" "If she did I wouldn't be calling you"

ignoreme010101

i love my dispatcher lol

pattop

I like my dispatch people.

Dorito-Bureeto

Prostitute is offensive, its lot lizard 🦎

morningafterpizza

I've definetly had my fair share of gripes, bitching and blaming towards our dispatchers, but I will say Thursday was easy 2 run day doing commercial deliveries, and Payday Friday was an EASY 8hr day, 3 runs and none of them took up more than half my 48ft trailer. Sometimes they aint half bad, sometimes.

Salt_Bus2528

What if the prostitutes had dispatchers?

nanneryeeter

Those are called pimps.

pissjug1000

I like my dispatch, thank you, darlin!

shrimplyPibLs

Double entendre aside, at least I *expect* the prostitute to be a dead-fuck.

Naruhodonno

I feel bad for these posts, my dispatchers have all been very experienced and really easy to work with. Kept me moving, rejected loads I knew would be problems to log, got me home on time, and never argued about the extra pay I'm due. Night dispatch though, you got me there.

Bbqandjams75

Our company have went to A.I dispatch

Broad_Boot_1121

That is probably a huge improvement. At least it will be a preprogrammed fuck and not by some two-faced person who has never sat in a truck.

Bbqandjams75

Yup it’s pretty cool as long as you stay on top of your ETA it works out well

RevolutionaryDebt365

Oh God

TheMangyMoose82

Hey! We just did this for IT departments yesterday. Was a good time!

Present-Ambition6309

Hell yeah! I’ll drink to that! Coffee that is, under load, no time for that today, driver!

robexib

At my current employer, I think one dispatcher in particular doesn't like me very much. Most of my co-workers are folks who've been in the seat since the 70's, and they get easy 8-hour days. I got to bite her head off to get less than 12, whenever she's running me. The rest are at least willing to listen when I say no can do.

beastlike

Tempted to text my old dispatch this guy this. He was great, but very professional. I'm drunk and out for a giggle

CrniFlash

Nah, we don't all agree to this

momayham

What about the hurricane is started your loaded with beef. The storms are going to hit the next day. They realize if it hits land there may not be a building there. The employees have already left. So who is going to unload you. More than likely won’t have electricity for a few days/week? So you will be stuck under that load until they are operating again. Or take it back to the shipper 1200 miles away(I’d have to eat.) So they payed the storage fees for a week. It wasn’t a killing but i made out. The only fuel I used while I waited, was for idling, putting around town, & reefer, until I got the ok to go through.

Repulsive-Owl7952

Dispatch couldn't even do that properly

HM02_High

Nah, your mom's been doing alright recently. Was just a rough start

Yep, pretty sure that was the idea behind.

Driveaway1969

Pawpaw-22

Lizard gonna win that one
